"I'm sorry honey. I know this is hard for you, but this is for the best," Mom said with a sad smile taking another box from behind the car and carried it inside our new house.
I scanned my eyes around our new neighborhood. It was quieter compared to where we previously lived. Sighing, I carried my box inside the house.
"Is this the last one?" Mom asked taking the box from me. I nodded and followed her to the living room where the other boxes were.
"Why don't you go check out your room upstairs?" she said putting down the box.
"How about these?" Gesturing to the stack of boxes. For two persons, we own a lot of things.
"We can fix those after we eat dinner. Now while I'm cooking dinner, go upstairs and rest first. I'm sure you're tired from the long travel." She grabbed me by the shoulders and ushered me towards the stairs.
I looked back at her one last time. She was smiling and gesturing me to go already. "It's the last room on the right hon!" she yelled.
I opened the door and glanced around the room. It was similar to my old one, but this one has a window facing the window of our neighbor. It's painted dirty white which I will have to change one of these days.
Tired, I plopped down to my queen sized bed. I took my phone out of the pocket of my pants and scrolled through my contacts. I smiled when I found his name and dialed his number.
"Tyyyy!"
(Hey baby,) he said laughing. Tyler is my closest friend back in our old place. We're friends since diaper days. He calls me baby because he said I look and act like one which I beg to disagree. He's one of the reasons why it was so hard to move.
"I miss you already," I said pouting even do he can't see me.
(I miss you too. Now stop pouting I can see you pouting from here.) I stopped pouting and laughed a little. He knows me too well.
"I really wanna go back there." I started tearing up.
I heard Tyler sigh from the other line. (Don't cry baby. I'll visit you when I can. A ten hour drive can't stop me from visiting you.)
"Promise?" I asked sniffing.
(I promise. When did I ever back out on my words?) Tyler never broke even a single promise he made with me. I absolutely love him for that.
"Uhm, never."
(Exactly. Now, you also have to promise me one thing.) Promise him one thing?
"What is it?"
Tyler cleared his throat. (Don't replace me,) he said in a dead serious voice. I started laughing loudly.
(Baby I'm serious!) I stopped laughing at him. He's rarely serious and it looks like he is right now.
"I will never replace you Tyler. You know that. You will always be my Tybear."
(Just making sure. And if you ever try to replace me, you will never find someone as hot and as handsome as me.) I made gagging sounds to irritate him. He's so confident. Well he has the right though. Almost everyone in school is crushing on him. Won't deny that he is handsome.
"Suuuuure," I said in an uncertain voice to tease him. After a few seconds, we started laughing together.
We kept talking about different things. He told me how his 'boring' day went as he described it.
As I listen to his story, I missed him more and more. I teased him from time to time to irritate him which worked. It works everytime.
"Honey dinner is ready!" Mom yelled from downstairs. I looked at the time on my phone. It was already 7pm. Tyler and I have been talking for three hours already.
"Ty mom's calling me already." I told him in a sad voice.
(It's okay baby. Let's talk again later? Don't forget to call me from time to time.)
"Copy that sir. Bye Tyler. Talk to you later."
(Bye baby. Love you,) he said making kissing sounds which I just laughed at.
(Love you too,) I answered before ending the call.
Even just from the stairs, I can tell that she cooked my favorite lasagna. That heavenly smell tickling my taste buds.
I followed the smell and I saw mom in the kitchen carefully pulling out the lasagna from the oven.
"Is there anything I can help you with mom?" I asked going near her.
"Help me set up the table hon." Nodding, I walked to the cabinet taking out two place mats, plates, spoons, forks and a serving spoon. Bringing them with me to the dining table to arrange them.
Mom placed the lasagna in the middle as I took a seat. I held the fork in my left hand and the spoon in my right. I looked up at her and smiled widely like a kid waiting for its treats. When mom saw me, she laughed loudly.
She went back to the kitchen and came back bringing a pitcher of water and two glasses. After placing them in the table, she sat beside me. "Dig in."
I sliced the lasagna getting some for my mom then some for me. "Thank you hon." She smiled.
"Have you talked to Tyler?" she asked. Mom knows how close Tyler and I am. He's practically living in our previous house.
"Yup. I called him and we did some catching up." She nodded after taking a few gulps of water. "That's good to know. I don't want you two to grow apart just because of your distance." I smiled inside knowing that Tyler and I would never allow that to happen.
"Speaking off," she wiped her mouth with the table cloth. "I already took care of your school papers. They said you can come to school as soon as tomorrow," she said with a big smile on her face while I lost mine. Tomorrow already? It's not that I hate school. I'm afraid of going to school where I know no one. Also, I'm not very social.
"I know that face. I'm sure you'll make some new friends here." She gave me an assuring smile. I tried to muster a smile for her.
"I hope so," I said in a small voice, pushing the lasagna around my plate.
"You can go to the mall tomorrow to buy the supplies you need for school and for your room." I smiled at that. I love decorating my room. It's one of the things I enjoy doing. Every six months, I change the theme of my room. This time, I'm going for a gray and white themed bedroom with led string lights. Just thinking about decorating already makes me excited.
"Now, now, I know you're excited but finish your food first," she said with one eyebrow raised and you can hear humor in her voice.
I continued eating wishing that time would go faster so that it would be tomorrow already.
