In a timeline similar to this one, everything happened the same, just at different times. Grant Ward, Phil Coulson, Melinda May, and Fitzsimmons became a team too early for Skye to join.

Grant betrayed them and by the time of the Battle of New York, Hydra was up and about. However, this Alien Invasion was very different. Earth's mightiest heroes were locked up. Loki invaded a different planet. Instead, two angel-like beings battled in the sky.

One of them, in a rage, cursed those closest to her. Ward, Coulson, Gordon, Fitz, Hunter, Mack, Andrew, and Lincoln, none of them with Inhuman abilities. These men turned into beasts. They would have been trapped as mindless monsters forever if it weren't for the other angel.

She took the Men-beasts and brought them to another world. In this world, she consulted a sorceress. When they came back to our earth, the sorceress made everyone in the world forget about little Rhodes Island. Everyone who lived there packed up and left.

A spell was cast to counteract the curse and to make life easier for the Men-Beasts. They had a mind, and a chance to change back, but the best she could only keep the curse at bay. She animated servants for the Men-Beasts to speak to. She gave each an object of great power.

Ward received a rose for reasons unknown. Coulson received a mask that let him be anyone he wanted to be. Gordon received a book that allowed him to go anywhere he wished. Fitz received a flask that summoned any liquid he wished. Hunter received a bowl that summoned any type of food he wished. Mack received a clock that told him where all the beasts or their soul mates currently were if set right. Andrew received a mirror that let him see anything he wished to see. Lincoln received an orb that let him see the future.

Eventually, through Lincoln's orb, the group found out that each time an alien to earth came, a petal of Ward's rose fell. When the last petal fell, it meant that the dark angel has returned, and she would hunt each of them down, and complete their transformation into beasts.

When the last petal fell, it meant that soon, they will forever be raging beasts without heart or mind.

But to fall in love meant that they were transformed back into men forever, with the dark angel unable to find them.

Gordon's book became in high demand, as did Coulson's mask and Mack's clock. They would travel to other places as who they were before. Searching for their soulmate. Hunter did not use this book. Neither did Ward. Nobody liked him.

Through time, various enmities arose, as would happen if you had predatory hormones telling a group of red-blooded men to secure their territory from other males. Especially when said men were trapped in the same space. Even families get irritated when they have to live in the same place as others all the time.

Coulson and Dr. Andrew Garner despised each other. Ward felt the same way about Lincoln and Lincoln felt the same way about Ward. Gordon and Mack constantly felt an urge to kill each other. Fitz and Hunter didn't hate anyone. Sure, they got on each other's nerves, but it was only irritation and it wasn't a constant thing. The only reason these two weren't extending a hand of friendship to Ward and sharing their objects with him was because of peer pressure and a healthy dose of fear.
