Chapter 40: Victorian*

"Our company is strictly number one for these reasons" Jared said while giving a tour around the Victorian Building. He walked Crystal to the floor where it assigned employees only, which was a huge red flag that should have anyone be alert at all times. Even with Froslass by her side, she still had to be on the lookout for anyone who will be ready to attack

"It's quite the building... It wasn't what I expected" she said, staring at all the desk with walls and people inside working with their red and blue uniform, but without the fancy black poncho.

"What did you expect then?" Jared stopped walking and faced her. She stared down at his blank face before looking out the window where it showed a pretty view of the city. Staring out these windows remind her a lot of home, where she would often see the town nearby or the snow storm.

"Do you ever wonder what your brother could be doing?" She said out of nowhere

"Pardon?" She snorted a little

"I mean... There are people out there that are that close to us. A family that we don't get to see because something is holding us back. Don't you ever wonder what they could be doing right now? You're still young, so you may not even say you waited so many years to see your own family" he looked out the window with her "I had the privilege to see them again, my family... They're one now, but because of my condition, I won't get to be with them any longer."

"Mind telling me where this is coming from so suddenly?" She looked down at him

"Don't you wonder what Jeramy is doing right now?" She repeated. He stared at her for a moment before continuing his walk, leaving her there.

"That is personal information. I don't intend on telling you how I feel" she nodded.

"Fair enough... He's such a cocky child, thinking he can beat a gym leader like me" he froze in place "I prevented him from challenging any more gyms. There are some things you just have to teach children" her eyes went dark at his wide eyes looking at her. She walked up to him close enough to tower him "They can't always have what they want... screaming and crying won't work, and doing the wrong thing just to get what you want will make the worse person possible" she lifted his small chin with her finger to look at her better

"You're still young, yet you want to be part of something that plans on making the rest of us slaves" his eyes started shaking at her cold stare "I hate to break it to you, kid... but if you're here and your family is out there, they won't forgive you for what you've made them. What's the point of having power if you're alone?" He moved her hand away and took a step back, watering his eyes "Am I wrong?"

"W-what do you know..?" Froslass lifted its hands, forming a cloud of cold mist

"I'm sure you already know who I am, and you were expecting me. How much do you know of the legend? Of the Princess of ice?" She grabbed both his shoulders, bringing herself close to his face "She was known for putting people in their place, but people thought of her as a simple murderer. Want to know if that's true?" She smirked, remembering the feeling she gets when scaring people. The kid looked like he was about to wet his pants

"Grunts!" He shouted, panicking "Attack this girl!" Grunts from the other side of the hallways came running, trapping her in one spot. Crystal got up and stood in her place, unaffected to know what may happen to her since she was outnumbered.

"Y-You were saying..?" Jared gulped, trying to sound tough

"Oh dear... They don't call me the strongest gym leader of Kannena for nothing!" She threw out Castform's Pokéball "Ice Beam!" Little Castform let out a battle cry and attacked everyone surrounding them, gluing them to the walls temporarily "You were saying?" She smirked, mocking him. Jared took a step back, running into the legs of the Admin Ashly

" You're a gym leader?" Ashly cupped her lips amazed "Would explain why you're so strong. I'll admit... but it's going to take more than a title to beat an entire gang of people who are willing to put you in your place!" She threw out a Machamp "Strong against ice types and normal types. Are you scared now?" She giggled

"Should I be?" Crystal spoke in a monotone voice. Ashly tilted her head confused "I don't know if you heard me, but I wasn't called the strongest gym leader for nothing" she snapped her fingers at Castform floating over "Use flamethrower!" Castform changed to its sunny form and threw a large flamethrower strong enough to melt the ice around them and even knock Machamp off its feet. Ashly stared wide-eyed before noticing Crystal was gone! She ran past her!

"W-What the..?" Ashly glared "Stop her now!" The soaked Grunts obeyed and went running, only for a few of them to slip on the water under them

"Ice Beam!" Crystal shouted. Froslass stopped floating and created an ice wall to keep them from chasing her. It didn't take long for an alarm to go off. Foot stomps could be heard from every floor around, above, and below her feet

"This can't be good..." she groaned. During her run to find a way to avoid the Grunts, a hand reached out from a open door to grab her by the mouth and dragged her into a storage closet. The hand tried it's best to keep her from moving too much, and yet Froslass nor Castform bothered to help.

"Let go of me!" She bit his hand

"Ow! Dammit! What the hell!?" Aaron shouted. Crystal looked up to see Aaron wearing the Victorian uniform, holding onto his sore hand "What are you!? A Pokémon!? How sharp are your teeth?!"

"Oh, it's just you" she crossed her arms "We haven't heard from you in a while. So you decided to join the gang then?"

"Don't be stupid! I've been undercover so I can find a way to know what these people want from you and West!" Crystal turned away "What's with you!? You shouldn't be here! They're after you, after all!"

"I can take care of myself... besides. I'm on my own mission, and I recommend you to leave now" he stared at her misty colored eyes confused "It seems you're not as stupid as I thought. So keep it that way and let me handle this."

"B-but..." she shook her head.

"This is something I have to do..." she patted his shoulder "You already know who I am, don't you?" He bit his lips "I hope you'll accept me for who I am, not because of my name. I know I've been a bitch, but I mean well. Forgive me for all the things I've told you, but it had to be said" she walked back to the door "I'm going to have to get through this on my own. Let me out of here. I'll call everyone once I know what's going on. Trust me. You won't have to worry about what this place is really up to" she sighed and left out

"Crystal! Wait!" He loud whispered but was ignored to continue down the hallway she was running before. There were multiple times where she had to run into corners to get away from grunts who almost spotted her.

By the time she was getting tired and starting to slow down, she found herself running into an empty room... or so she thought.

What she thought that the empty room was actually an office filled with history and fairy tale books. The walls were plastered with drawn images of the Harmony Temple when it was still in one piece and even filled with frames with old black and white photos of what looked like Emilia, or in this case... her grandmother

"Grandma..?" Crystal studied each picture, realizing that she had never seen any of them before. Many were by herself while others had her with a man or some friends. Castform floated all around, amazed at all the pictures that had Crystal's sister in all of them, even if it wasn't even her

"Cast! Cast" it gasped amazed

"Quiet, Castform. This isn't what it looks like" but she wanted to know what it even looked like in the first place. Why are there so many pictures of her grandmother in the first place? It seems like her theory from before was correct...

"What's the meaning of this anyways?" She asked herself

"Isn't it rude of you to just barge into my office without permission?" A voice called out from another room, approaching where she stood. Crystal quickly stepped into the shadows once a tall figure started approaching.

If this man was so interested in her grandmother, she wouldn't want to know what he may think when he sees her face with the family resemblance

"Isn't it rude of you to think you can just take away a human's right of being free?" She backmouthed. The tall figure stepped into the room she was in, revealing to be an older man with a kind looking face, even though the eyes had another story. He looked around to see where she wondered off to until he spotted a familiar figure hiding in the shadows

"You have a point there... My name is Ronaldo. Taking that you're speaking so carefree, you don't work for me, do you?"

"I might not like people as much, but I wouldn't ever join anyone who would want to put anyone down without reason" the man chuckled

"Reason huh..? I like your honesty... If you don't work for me, who are you, if I may ask? And how do you know so much about what I plan on doing?"

"That shouldn't be a concern to you... I'm going to stop you from making this ridiculous plan a reality" he nodded, listening "Your little admin told me... Your plan will be stopped. This region is known for its connection and harmony. It is a gift Glēgotan had given us after what it had seen between the princess and the warrior! Their bond was strong even if they were in completely different worlds! No amount of effort is going to change what it had given to this world a long time ago!" His steady laugh slowly turned into a loud one.

"Harmony? Connection? You say the legendary Pokémon had given the world such things, but you don't even see that this world still doesn't know what the hell those two things mean... People still fight, they abandon, they murder, they are criminals... This world isn't as beautiful as many have said. There are people out there who would separate families and friends because of differences. Ashly and Britney, are perfect examples. They are sisters who have been separated when they were kids because they were adopted by different parents. Britney's rich parents didn't want to adopt Ashly because she wasn't pretty enough, leaving her in the hands of other parents who had too many kids to handle and never gave her attention."

"You're putting this the wrong way-"

"Or Jared, do you know him? He had a twin brother, and his parents got separated and each followed the other without having a choice."

"I am aware-"

"Many of my employees faced hardships in their life. Many had to watch their friends and families get murdered. Some were thrown out the streets because they didn't fit in with that crowd. They were fired because of their appearance. They were too poor, or rich, but was never understood and had to be forced to be someone they didn't want to be. This world lacks any harmony and connections... They look down on you because you're different. I plan to finally let those people, who deserve more, be free from the hate and finally get payback for all the hardships they went through-"

"Again, you're putting this the wrong way. We have harmony because we lack any more wars, and we have connections because of how easily we can be accepted to the crowd we do fit in. This world is better than it was years ago... To think you're trying to make everyone slaves while you and your team can have all the riches. How are you better than those who oppose you all?"

"You simple little girl... You don't understand. You're privileged and you don't ever have to worry about a single thing in your life" she glared at his assumption "Those who follow me know that this world will never change and they will never be acceptable by anyone but each other"

"That's not what I saw before... Your blue and red Grunts were always fighting. Yelling at each other because they were in different classes. Saying that's not how they behave or things like that. Your Grunts don't even accept each other, so what makes you think that your little plan is going to change anything that can't be changed!?"

"Shut it! Shut your mouth! Who are you to barge in here and talk like you know everything!" Crystal stared at his angry eyes, seeing the blindness of what he thinks is right and wrong "I already know what I want! We have been separated by those who we thought we'd be better with! There's no equality when it comes to a royal or a peasant! People should know their place. Only me and my team can become one equal community that will understand one another and abandon those who looked down on us!"

"What the hell are you talking about?" She slapped the wall, accidentally dropping a frame on the floor, letting the glass scatter "You're blind, old man! You're poisoning these people with your beliefs! There's always somewhere someone can belong! Status shouldn't matter as long as you know who you are! You act like I don't understand... I understand more than you know!" He fell on his knees, reaching to the glass she broke

"W-What have you done..?" She huffed, crossing her arms

"You irritating old man... I guess it's true. You can't teach an old pooch new tricks" she turned away

"You fool... You can't possibly know what we've been through. If you understood, you would join us. I was a guy born into a rich family, and I fell in love with an average young girl who was full of life and knew what she wanted" he took out the picture from the frame, staring at the picture of her grandmother "I love her in so many ways, and she loved me. My parents didn't accept her, and they send her away so we wouldn't see each other again. I've searched and searched since leaving that place, but I never found her" his hands were shaking "Just because we were in different worlds, we were separated by force. I vowed to never let something like that ever happen again"

He's an idiot. There's going to be a point where his Grunts might fall in love with a slave if it gets to that point. He's thinking of her grandmother more than anyone else... He's blind from seeing reality, and because his grunts went through so much, they're kept from understanding the consequences of knowing what may happen if a plan like that is carried out

"Your plan will never work... because unlike you, I have a brain" she stepped out the shadows, looking down at his eyes slowly starting to widen "You're being selfish... These people need to know the truth, not to ruin things all together without knowing what it'll cause them. You're going to ruin everyone! You're going to ruin yourself!" He quickly stood up, hands shakily reaching for her face

"V-Victori-?" she slapped his hand away and snatched the picture out his hands, pushing him away to hit the wall.

"This woman right here moved on! You may know her as Victoria Jordan, but she married out that name, and soon, her daughter married into another family" she lifted her chin "My grandmother wouldn't have wanted this. I'm sure she would have expected you to move on as well, but yet you're still looking for her even if you were standing in front of her grave on Mt.Lightning."

"What-?"

"She moved on a long time ago... It's time for you to do the same. Look what you have wasted. A life wanting to get back at those who ruined you when you could have taken a different set of stairs" she narrowed her eyes at his shocked expression "This plan was a waste of everyone's time... You've made them violent and attack innocent people who could have benefited their life if come together and made connections... I'm tired of trying to explain myself to some old man. I want to know where my love is"

"Your love?" She blushed, not understand why she's saying that so casually since reading the journal

"West... You have him, and I want him back!" He closed his eyes halfway, staring at her glare

"You might look like the love of my life, and even if I can't have her and I found out I wasted all this time looking for her, I came this far" he looked behind her shoulders. Froslass flinched and looked behind her "I already know what I wanted from the start" somebody's heavy weight hit Crystal from behind and made her fall forward with their body landing on hers to tie her hands together.

"Hey!" She shouted, struggling to get up

"Jared's description of you was on the key... I'm sorry for what happened back in your cell, but now that you're feeling better, shall we finally head over to the Temple of Harmony?" Crystal stopped struggling and smirked

"You just made a big mistake..."
