Chapter 30: Forest*

West held out Doublade with both hands while standing in front of the girl's looking around when feeling a gloomy presence surrounded them.

"I never been to this side of the forest... the spirits always warn me to stay away" Olivia explained, looking around and trying to hear a calling or a voice, but all was silent "it's so quiet here..." Froslass looked at Crystal shaking and reaching to cover her ears "It's never this quiet..."

"Have mercy!"

"Stop!"

"It hurts..."

"I'm sorry!" Crystal turned her back, pressing her hands harder against her ears. The voices keep yelling at her. Olivia can hear spirits, but why can't she hear how loud it is..?

A ribbon curled into Crystal's hand. She jumped and looked down Sylveon frowning up at her. Sylveon... another one of her Glaceon's brothers. Sylveon remembered her too, and also remembered that she was sensitive under the cool act of hers.

"Crystal?" Olivia called "is everything alright?" West turned to look at how pale Crystal was and how red her cheeks became. Olivia reached to hold her cheeks, flinching at the heat "You're burning up!" West reached to touch and confirmed

"You were in the shower for a long time... Why didn't you say something was wrong?" Crystal brushed his hand off her and looked up at the trees to listen to the voices getting quieter

"My love" Damian's voice spoke from West's body. Crystal lowered her hands and stared at him with a nod "the spirits of this forest are the ones who suffered under our hands. Times were rough, but if we want to have our happy place with the help of these trainers, we have to set these spirits free as well. They're terrified" Olivia blinked confusedly.

"I understand" Diane spoke "we're being selfish to think our souls can be set free from this world alone. Our spirits live within this world with these spirits we've killed. Young snowflake" she spoke to Crystal listening "I know you promise to set us free, but please... help us erase our sins and set everyone here free as well."

"W-what's going on..?" Olivia frowned, hearing different voices coming from her sister and West's mouth. Their voices spoke in echoes, like how she would hear a spirit speak.

"We don't have to explain, it won't matter later as long as we get things done now," Damian said "we've done a lot of crimes back in our days of living, but we were never truly alive because of the curse and illness. We have a lot of things to do in order to make things right again" he held Crystal's hands "I promise I won't abandon you this time, my love" Crystal and Diane frowned at his proposal and looked down

"Young snowflake" she spoke to Crystal "if you truly want to continue living longer... and help these spirits, I need you to listen to me."

"I-I don't care for these spirits. They have nothing to do with me" Crystal said "besides you, I'm just trying to help Tonya get her voice back. She's family... I have to help her."

"I know in your cold heart that you care more than you lead on... these spirits are hurt and terrified. True, it doesn't have anything to do with you, but think of it this way. If you set these spirits free, they'll stop messing with Tonya and give her back her voice" Crystal thought about it.

"Why did they take her voice in the first place?"

"They wanted help, and she was the only one who could see them and hear them. Olivia couldn't hear them because she only spoke to spirits within a Pokémon's body. Anything that has to do with us can wait... Go to Blue Feather lake and find the Harmony Flute."

"Harmony Flute?"

"Oh! I heard of that!" Olivia said "it's said to awaken the spirits and bring them peace. It's a very wonderful item, but I thought it was just a legend."

"It was a instrument I created with my bare hands" Damian said "I put a lot of heart into that flute, and I gifted it to the king to show my respects and hoped he'd accept me as someone who loves my princess" he looked down "It later held magical properties after we were given the Ice and Fiery orb... it was a gift from Glēgotãn. That's what we were told long after the king threw it into the Blue Feathered lake."

"Wait a minute... Ice orb and Fiery orb!?" Olivia gasped "Don't tell me... you're the legendary lovers!?"

"You're pretty slow, you know?" West said

"Shut it, you!" She glared

"This is not the time. Find that flute as soon as possible!" Diane ordered "this forest holds many spirits, but it's not the only place that holds many of the ones we've hurt. The majority came here because it was a safe spot for spirits for centuries. They're more violent here as well... now that the spirits feel our presence, they're going to cause trouble for Crystal and West. Luckily the reincarnation of my brother isn't near, or it'll be war between the living and the dead"

"Reincarnation of your brother?" Crystal cupped her mouth

"The old king of Kannena..." Diane shook her head "its best to not talk about it now. Once our souls are free, his will as well. Do not ask who is the reincarnation..." Crystal glanced to the side, thinking to herself "they're aware of us now, leave this forest at once and head to the lake!"

"Right" Crystal and West nodded and turned to leave. Crystal stopped and looked at Olivia's worried face "see you later... will you make sure Tonya will be okay?"

"I will but... what about you both? Angry spirits are not easy to handle. I fear for your safety."

"You? Fear? Don't make me laugh... that Mimikyu of yours is the most terrifying Pokémon ever and it followed you all the way from the Alola region from where you were born. Not once were you ever scared of anything."

"That doesn't mean I can't worry... you look terrible. You're getting more sick" Crystal smiled, petting her head and spoke softly enough for West not to hear

"I'll be fine sis... make sure to let mom and dad know that whatever happens, I still love them. I'll message you later. bye" she took West's hand and ran through the darkness of the forest, ignoring the voices screaming at them

A strong gust of wind kept rushing through them with flying branches and rocks aiming to hit them. Doublade in West's hands kept swinging in random directions without the pair knowing if there was anything there or not

"The princess and Warrior killed these people... can't they see we're not them!" West shouted, protecting Crystal behind him. Crystal looked around the dark forest until she saw a faint light ahead of them. There was the exit!

Before heading to the end, a slim figure with a transparent body stood in their way, making them stop. It was a woman with deadly white skin in a maid's uniform. Her hands were together and she bowed slowly.

"Milady..." she bowed to Crystal "I am glad to see you are well, even after your curse swallowed you" she stood straight, making Crystal confused "I have waited this long for your return. The temple is waiting for your arrival, as well as the King..." the spirit's eyes softened "though he is not with you... that is fine. The path up ahead will be difficult to go through, it will be filled with villagers and workers watching your every move. From this point on, you will notice them here and there... either wanting to praise your presence or try to harm you."

"That is why we're going to go to Blue Feathered lake to obtain the Harmony Flute," West said "We will put all of you to rest!" She bowed

"I don't believe I understand what you are saying, civilian... but I have heard those around here speaking" civilian? "Beyond this point will be the road of those who suffered greatly for centuries under the name of Otashi and Kimana..." Crystal flinched and looked at West trying to pull Doublade off his forehead.

It's like Doublade doesn't want West to find out about Crystal yet... "what you don't know is that the ones who were killed by the king are guarding that flute underneath that lake. If you even think about getting too close to it, you will suffer as they did. If you do not wish to be harmed, stay away from the lake."

"No way! We have to! The princess told us to get that flute, so we're going to get it!" Crystal said. The spirit tilted her head confused.

"She did..?" She frowned and tilted her head to the other side "even if she knew how dangerous the road up ahead will be..?" Crystal rolled her eyes

"Don't say nonsense. She knew what she was talking about,l and she wanted to make up for her sins. We're going on whether you like it or not. We know the risk... We've been making risks from square one" the spirit held her chin and smiled.

"How amusing, you are not personally her highness... but you act so much like her. So stubborn" Crystal blush "yet so confident... very well... if I cannot persuade you to turn back from the direction of the lake and temple, I will ask to be careful, please" she bowed "I only want to keep you safe again."

"Who are you..?" The spirit stood back up

"I am Brandy... a maid within your castle that's been keeping the secret of you and the civilian all this time all to the point where the king found out and punished me" she looked down "her highness and the civilian were happy, and knowing how much she suffered within the walls of the castle, I wished her happiness with this man"

"That sounds a lot like my story in a way..." Crystal frowned "so the king punished you for keeping their secret" she nodded "thank you... for staying true to us. Perhaps if it weren't for you, things wouldn't be like they would be today. If they were kept separated, the spirits here wouldn't get the chance to be free" West looked at Crystal "with that growing love they created, they found a way to stay alive together and become noticed by Glēgotan... all this wouldn't have happened" Diane merged into her voice "you weren't selfish like the rest of that staff who served under me" Brandy smiled faintly with a few tears before fading away. Crystal wiped the sweat on her forehead and looked at West.

"So many things are happening right now, aren't they?" She nodded at his words "do you really think... we can fix all this?"

"I believe as long as we're together" she held his hands "we can become happy in the end" happy... to her, as in happy he'll end up okay, and happy that she was the reason for it.

Looking into the path in front of them, they kept their hands together and ran into the exit, seeing them standing on top of a tall hill that shows a fantastic scenery that showed dozens and dozens of miles from where they stood.

In the nearest area where they stood on a path, there was a large lake covered in what might be the blue feathers. The next farther was a view of another city close to a tower that reached to the clouds, a city Crystal knew her eldest sister; Emilia lives in

It was far enough to be seen as small as a pinky nail and might take a while to head to. There was the view of another city where the temple stood much farther away, and the next place where another one of her sisters; Mia lives in

"Wow..." she gasped "this is so beautiful... how are we able to see this? We're not on the mountain."

"Kannena is something, isn't it?" West smiled "Kannena is already a region that's high above sea level, so Mount Lightning was three times as high. This part of the region up north is right on the ground level, on the beach. At least for the most part" he pointed over at the tower "that's the Kimana tower, where my parents live!" He grinned widely "where my family holds their name! It's so high that it's above the clouds, but probably not as high as Mt.lightning. The tower sits on its own island, where I met Cresselia. Once heading away from the north, the east side of the region will grow back up above sea level again. It's going to be difficult to get up there, so I've heard from Rhea."

"Sounds tiring..."

"Don't worry. We can take the train to travel through tunnels!" He pointed at the lake "that's the lake where we can get a feather and finally open the journal where we can learn more about the story of the princess" Crystal looked at his gleaming eyes staring at the view

"What about yours?" He blinked and looked at her "what about the Warriors..? You... saw some of those moments in your terrors, haven't you?" He bit his lips and nodded

"Yeah... but I haven't seen all that much. I can see the whole story, but I tend to forget so much that I only remember glimpses" he looked at his hands "the war he was in lasted for so long... he held nothing but a sword and fire, yet his hands were never burned" he shook "I kept thinking... how many people am I going to keep killing in order to end this war?" he covered his face "I've... the warrior... killed more people at war, and I suddenly remembered that it was taken on the north side of the region, in front of the Temple for the king to watch"

"It's hard to even believe even the princess killed others, but times were different back then... people died all the time, in more ways than today"

"Brandy kinda reminds me of Brenda, you know?" He smiled, wiping his sweat away. She nodded, agreeing, and looked at her communicator.

"I spoke to her a little while back. She told me Wyatt went back to the-" she paused "to our home... but will come back to search for me again."

"Huh? What made him do that?" she thought back at the dream she had in the graveyard.

"I don't know... not only am I glad he stopped following me for now, but that he isn't around here" he looked at her confused, "I think Wyatt might be the reincarnation of the old king."

"Wyatt? But the old king and the princess were siblings. How is that possible? You said you weren't related" she huffed

"Arceus, West! Stop making things so difficult! Reincarnations are born within a new time, not into the same family" she turned away "e-even if Wyatt isn't my family..." she looked down, shaking "he still is..." West frowned at her shaking and even saw the color of her face getting worse. He took the back of her knees and back and lifted her bridal style "West!"

"Can you walk any further?" She didn't answer, knowing she couldn't "don't worry, I'll carry you to where the lake is. I'll even jump in to get the flute."

"I wonder if the Fiery orb is there as well..."

"What?" She said nothing "you know... this whole situation with Wyatt and stuff, do you think he likes you?" She sweatdropped

"What got you to the thought to come up with that stupid idea?" her voice sounded irritated "he's dear to me, but it's not in that way."

"Then what way then?"

"It's a very long story. I can't say anything without saying something I'll regret" he nodded, careful to walk down the hill "he's been through a lot, West... I don't usually do this, but I... regret leaving him lonely back home."

"What do you mean?"

"I'm his only family..." she wiggled around to be placed down, hearing faint voices speaking to her "after my parents neglected him... they want me to understand, but why can't they understand? He did everything for me, for me to stay healthy. After coming back home, I'm all he ever thinks about" West faced her.

"Clarify on this... why is that, exactly?"

"Because I was the only one who waited for him when Wyatt... was supposed to be dead."
