Chapter 3: Swimming*

The view from the playground above her room made everything look different than she was used to. To see everything that was in front of her now below made her feel like a simple view from the floor can't compare to what could be seen if she'd see the world from a different angle. Different from seeing it outside her window, there had to be a way to look beyond what she's been seeing for years now.

While leaning on the ceiling's playground, Crystal made sure she had a good view of the door while hiding and listening to Wyatt's constant screaming the whole few hours, wondering where she was the entire time as he freaked out.

"CRYSTAL!" Wyatt shouted above his lungs, making his voice echo across the castle "where are you!?"

"Can't a girl have some alone time without him needing to be around all the time?" she sighed "Imagine if I snuck out" she crossed her legs and laid down "he never thinks to find me up here. I would figure he'd use his Pokémon to find me" his Litwick appeared from the wall, trying to scare her but failed "hm?" Litwick cheered and sat on her lap as she got up "So you found me" she smiled

"Crystal!" Wyatt kept screaming. Crystal sighed and looked back at Liwick playing with her hair "good job on finding me! Now, will you tell Wyatt to stop panicking like it's the end of the world?" it nodded and disappeared, leaving with the blue flame still visible.

A maid jumped out the way when seeing it almost ran into her as she opened the door with her clean gowns. Crystal swung her legs on the edge of the ceiling and leaned forward a little. The maid noticed her legs and nearly screamed.

"Did I scare you?" She arched her brow. The maid held her heart.

"Milady... I didn't think you were in here. Everyone is out looking for you!"

"I was here the whole time."

"How you get up there?" Of course, nobody knew of her climbing skills

"A way" no one has to know "anyways, try to calm Wyatt down. He's making a big deal out of nothing."

"Well, maybe he just loves you" she joked.

"I know he does" not expecting to hear that, the maid froze "what?"

"Nothing... I just... I was jokin- are you and Wyatt a thing?" Crystal wanted to burst out laughing but knew that wasn't a good idea. He might hear and hurry over to interrupt the question she wanted to ask.

"No, of course not. We're pretty much family, after all."

"I see... you two are very close" Crystal leaned on the wood, boredly "he'll be delighted to know you're okay."

"I'm always okay. He overreacts" the maid bowed and set down her gowns "let me ask you something... how often do you leave these walls?" Since Wyatt is mainly the one doing the schedules for the servants working for her, she was curious

"I'm off weekends, so I take the train to meet with my family before coming back."

"Must be nice" Castform floated over with a lava cookie it stole from the kitchen and ate it. It balanced on Crystal's bouncing foot laying across her knee "where do you live?"

"Oh?" Crystal looked over at the maid's surprise face and looked away

"Sorry I asked. I know it's weird for me to ask"

"Oh! No, it's not! I just didn't think you'd ask someone like me a question like that" she fixed her eyeglasses and thought for a moment "so you just want to know where I live?"

"Actually" she jumped off the ceiling wood without hesitation, nearly giving the maid get a heart attack "tell me as much as you want. I don't know much about the Kannena region, so be free to tell me as much as you can" the maid put her hands together with a smile.

"In that case!" They both sat on the bed "I live in a small village called Hana Village. It's surrounded by a bunch of red trees and has a bunch of pretty flowers around the place you'd die to see. It's popular for its romantic spots, and you wouldn't believe how many people get married in our quiet, peaceful village and shrine" the maid held her heart with a relaxed look on her face.

"When you look at the millions of flowers, it's impossible not to notice the incredible view of the mountains, especially when the sky turns pink and purple from the sunset. My family and I would always have our picnics by the sacred lake to watch the beautiful view" Crystal listened carefully while hugging her knees.

"Hana village is great and everything, but the Kannena region is just as beautiful. An old friend of mine publishes popular magazines, and one happens to be all about the beauty of the region. It's mainly for tourist. He nicknamed the region 'the growing land of tomorrow' because of how much the land mass grows."

"What do you mean?"

"Scientists can't figure it out, but for a long time, people have noticed the massive growth in the land. What you saw ten years ago is nothing how it looks today. When this region was first discovered, it was only a small island that could fit a small kingdom. Today, it's much more than it used to be!" The maid expanded her arms for dramatic effect "they say it grows a meter every year! Isn't that amazing?"

"So it used to be a kingdom?" She looked up to imagine what that could have looked like "and there's no explaining why it expands?"

"No! No one knows. Some theorize that the legendary Pokémon Groudon does it, but it's not even part of this region! There are not even volcanos! Anyways... With the region growing, the region changes all the time! The land expands, and it gives opportunities to create more work and create much more beautiful things to add on! I only moved here a few years ago when I was a teenager, so talking about it still excites me. Sorry if I'm talking too much..." she blushed.

"You're okay. Please continue"

"What's cool about Kannena is the trains."

"Trains?"

"There are two trains that travel opposite ways around the region going one direction over and over, running on two tracks. You can get from anywhere in the region in the matter of a few days depending on which train you use. The black train and white train. The tracks are all around the land, so you're guaranteed to arrive at the closest stop to head to the place you need to go to!"

"I see..." the maid notice her staring off into space.

"Oh milady! Forgive me! I know how much you don't like going outside!"

"Huh?"

"I'm boring you, aren't I!?" She bowed apologetically "please forgive me!" And she scurried away. Crystal stared at her leaving, with a confused look on her face.

"What's with her..?"

"Brenda often says things that are unnecessary" Wyatt walked into the room all calmly "she'll spaz for no reason and worry about the wrong things" he sat on the bed next to her "what were you two talking about?"

"Nothing important" she lied.

"How are you feeling?"

"I should ask you the same thing. Weren't you just having a panic attack?" he looked away.

"It wasn't a panic attack. I was just worried that you would have passed out or something without anyone knowing where you went."

"I was here the whole time."

"Where, exactly?" She glanced at her Pokémon giggling from the playground "never mind, now that I know you're okay, I can go back to ordering more medicine" he walked out. Hard to believe he was yelling her name like a madman not too long ago. It's weird how he doesn't have a problem asking her parents for prescriptions over an email, but likes having an attitude with them in any other way of communication.

"Don't like going outside... huh?" She asked herself, remembering what Brenda assumed. The servants of the household think she doesn't leave the building because she dislikes the outdoors. Truth be told, no one knows of her condition. No one knows she gets easily ill, and no one knows she was hospitalized for years before getting the chance to leave.

Her story was unknown to everyone but her family. Wyatt keeps a low profile and makes it seem like it was her not wanting to go, but it's all she ever wanted

"I never knew Kannena was this special. The growing land of tomorrow... I wish I learned more about the region... maybe I can ask Brenda to get me one of those magazines she was talking about" disregarding her fever she couldn't feel at the moment, she shook in excitement, something she didn't think she'd feel in her castle

"It's almost over... once my fever goes down, I can go. O-only for a little bit... it shouldn't hurt, right?" Her Pokémon looked at each other worried "I have to at least see something for myself, by myself... it won't be long either" she reached for her hidden mason jar with the saved up money her parents send to her "he doesn't have to know... I'll be fine. I have to do this" Castform landed on her head with Litwick "looks like everyone is excited... I can't take everyone. It'd be suspicious if everyone went missing. Since the journey won't be long, I'll probably only take one of you for protection." putting on a clean gown made of black velvet, she spun around to feel the ends flowing around before happily running out the room. She wanted to plan the small journey to see the amazing world for herself, and perhaps see a few family members scattered across the region on duty.

It was a shame that the fever kept her from leaving sooner, but since Brenda informed her of the train, her visits to see her sisters and relatives should be much faster and more comfortable. Since Wyatt was a introverted guy who doesn't like surrounding himself with people other than her, he wouldn't have to deal with anything that'll bother him. He might wonder where she'll be for the past few days, but it'll all be worth it. As long as she takes care of her body, skin, and health, and to take care of her medicine daily like always, she'll be just fine!

The castle was too big to keep track of every maid. There are different duties each maid does; whether it's cleaning, organizing, decorating, serving, cooking, or washing, it's impossible to keep track of them all. She was actually hoping to find Brenda somewhere to see if she had that magazine she was talking about

"Um!" Crystal stopped at her tracks when her dress was snatched from the ends, seeing Wyatt's Umbreon pulling on her dress playfully with her Glaceon chasing it. The dark-type crawled under her dress to hide, making Glaceon crawl after and run around inside her skirt like it was a park.

"W-what are you doing!? Get out of there!" She blushed, embarrassed. The two laughed and ran out her skirt to another hallway "geez... they're so childish" she giggled a little "reminds me of Wyatt and me in a way."

As young teenagers, before Wyatt decided to leave on a journey and go to school for medical training, it took years before being able to see each other again. Before the time apart, they both had a similar egg and hatched them before splitting. When reuniting again, the hatchlings had already evolved and the two recognized each other even after a few years. It would be heartbreaking to ever break them apart again.

"I can't separate them again... Glaceon would have to stay here, and I'll take Castform with me."

"What was that, milady?" Brenda walked the hallway towards her, holding a swimsuit

"Oh, nothing. I've been looking for you" Brenda flinched.

"M-me!? Am I in trouble!?"

"No" she sighed in relief and offered the swimsuit "oh, my swimsuit... it came in already?" Crystal took it, staring at the pretty light blue color she liked so much. She had her hair and eyes to match.

"It did!"

"I don't remember Articuno coming in with a delivery."

"I actually got this when I went home!" Crystal tilted her head confused "I got the package sent to my village. Any material can be ruined while in the hands of your Pokémon, so I got all fabrics delivered to my home instead, all the time."

"I see..." not only is Brenda in charge of everyone's clothes in the castle; she is specialized to make a proper fit and will make anything if asked. Crystal didn't need that kind of help and only has her hand washing her clothes. "this was sent to Hana village, huh..?" She held it up, seeing the bikini top that wraps around the neck, and bottom piece that covers her stomach

"Yes! I always make sure your fabric comes in safely! The fabric to make the maid uniform is one thing, but your fabric, well... you make such beautiful dresses. I just had to make sure they're properly taken care of" Crystal smiled a bit at the compliment.

"I appreciate your kindness, Miss Brenda."

"Actually... she's married" another maid who takes care of cleaning the floors spoke out of nowhere. Crystal looked at Brenda's red face surprised.

"A Mrs?"

"Oh, stop! Don't say it out loud! It's embarrassing!" The other maid giggled

"Oh, don't be shy! Take pride in that ring of yours!" Crystal looked more surprised

"Ring?" Brenda nodded and removed her glove to show off a cute little shiny ring

"It's not the biggest diamond, but I don't care. It's special to me, and I'll cherish it" the maids giggled together while Crystal stared at their little excitement.

It occurred to her that she doesn't know much about the maids around here. The castle is full of women Crystal doesn't even know, and they take care of her. She does prefer to be alone most of the time, but to see that she is standing right in front of girls who can talk to her normally makes her wonder how she'll handle being in the real world. Not that these two were bothering her at all, it's the change of talking to different kinds of people that's going to need some getting used to

"Forgive us for talking nonsense" Brenda and the other girl bowed "I'm sure you have better things to do than to listen to us rambling about the wedding last month" now that she thought about it, the castle was empty around that time. No servants were around, so Wyatt did everything... which isn't something new.

"Wyatt request you to have your daily exercise in the pool today, milady. I shall let the lifeguard know to be on duty" Crystal walked pass them. Does he really have to remind her? The only reason she couldn't go swimming was because of her fever.

"Brenda, did you forget that Sarah has the day off?" The maid whispered

"Oh yeah! I completely forgot!" Crystal sighed

"It's not a big deal... I can swim. I don't need supervision, but if you must. Please join me."

"Really?" They gasped

"Yes" known to be to herself and liking her moments alone, she couldn't help but be curious about their conversation and wanted to know more about Kannena if she'll get the chance to ask without sounding suspicious.

Having a perfect fit of her swimsuit, Crystal stared at the mirror, swaying her hips side to side, feeling it odd not to wear her heavy clothing like she usually wears. "Is something the matter, milady?" the other maid asked. Crystal didn't answer and dipped straight into the water, swimming towards her Dewgong who lives in the pool. It's been so long since seeing it.

"Hey, beautiful" Crystal smiled, petting its head. "I missed you" a couple of heads showed up around them, making her jump on Dewgong surprise when seeing her Pokémon's babies clapping when seeing her. "don't sneak up on me like that" she chuckled and had Dewgong and Seels swimming around with her

She noticed the maids watching her swimming like they never seen a human being before "what is it?" They flinched and shook their heads

"N-nothing! We were just admiring the way you swim!" The way she swims? "You look like a mermaid with Dewgong next to you!" Dewgong swam her to the edge of the water and sat on the edge

"So anyways... tell me more about this wedding of yours" the maids looked surprised "don't leave a single detail. I want to know everything" Brenda nodded happily.

"O-of course!" Crystal kept her direction towards the wall, closing her eyes to imagine how beautiful the wedding could have been in what Brenda explained was by the lake of Hana village where the mountains gave a beautiful view before the sun goes down, and has the Pokémon make a light show like they do every night. Crystal can see how beautiful it may be.

That's when she made up her mind... as soon as the fever is gone completely, that's when she'll leave to find this exact village Brenda's been talking about
