Chapter 28: Punishment*

The night went smoothly after Crystal explained that she didn't want to talk any more about her relationship with West, her travels, or anything that didn't matter right at the moment. Tonya was the birthday girl, and it was her day, not Crystals'

She sat around her cousins talking about random things after the cake was passed around. She noticed that Tonya kept staring at her, only eating the frosting.

"Hm?" Tonya looked down, hugging the book she brought earlier "is there something you want to show me?" Tonya looked up a little at the same time a body stumbled on Crystal's back

"Geez!" Olivia whined "Is he finally gone? It's about time! I wanted to spend time with my big sister!" Crystal snorted

"You have an interesting way of showing your excitement when noticing who I was. Even Samantha and Leah showed more emotion than you" Olivia laughed and sat next to her

"Yeah! But Froslass told me to keep cool or else you'll get mad."

"Still talking to ghost, aren't we?" Olivia grinned

"Glad you still remember me, big sister!" She rubbed her cheek against Crystal's cheek, holding her like she was a doll. Crystal only sweatdropped, but smiled in the inside, happy that she's with another one of her sisters again.

Olivia grew up without actually growing up. She's a child in a teenager's body, loving to play in tea parties, still wear big dresses, wear bows, collect dolls, and occasionally wear twintails from time to time. Some say she's an adult child even if she's still young, but what makes them stop talking is the dark aura she possesses when she's active with spirits she can hear and communicate with.

She's serious and frightening towards anyone who catches her in the middle of her conversations with the spirits she spends her time with. It would explain why she was serious towards Crystal in the beginning, but let it go since Crystal could also hear the same spirits speaking to Olivia, she just refuses to listen

Froslass doesn't talk to her, only as the princess's mist. Knowing they were practically the same person, only in different lifetimes and species now, of course, it would feel strange for the both of them to talk casually...

"How can I forget you? You're my devil child little sister" Crystal responded all so casually and honestly. Olivia giggled and hugged her arm, tearing up a little

"I miss you..." Crystal frowned, petting her head. She didn't grow up with everyone, but she always made some kind of connection with her family enough to show how much they mean to her.

"I know... I miss you too" after a full night at the party, everyone was getting ready to head home. Kayla, Scarlett's daughter and Tonya's big sister, pulled on Crystal's hand

"It was nice meeting you!" She lifted her dress and curtsied "I've gone through my life without knowing who you were, but heard you were like a princess! That's something I want to be when I grow up!" Kayla, if it wasn't obvious with her polite personality and tiara on her head, she's a kind young lady who was known as being kind and well-mannered. She might want to be a princess, but it's not the kind Crystal seems to be

"Good luck... you're almost there" Crystal pet her head "and maybe you can even take over my gym if papa approves. You are old enough and battled quite well outside" the family had their share of battles in the backyard for tradition to show off how powerful an Otashi can become the older they get.

"Absolutely not," Dad said "all my daughters are gym leaders because they surpass the skills of everyone else in the family beside us and the Elite Four. Once my girls find a different role in the league, that's when I'll determine who will fill in the spots for the gym leader."

"I never wanted to become a gym leader in the first place" Crystal admits, knowing he knew

"Yet you are the most powerful out of your siblings. It doesn't take appearance to see the power in someone. Even if you break the rules often, You're still the best around."

"It's true, dear." mom said "don't think we don't know that you give away your dull badges. Never had the league once seen one of your official badges, because we already know it's either give it away or defeat your opponent. You can't even try to lose, that's how we know you're that powerful" Crystal crossed her arms and turned away.

"It's not my fault the trainers are weak. If you know so much about my performances, why do you continue to even let me keep being a gym leader? I break the rules, refuse matches, and even banned people. I do so much to get kicked out, and yet I still have to look down at pitiful people who really think they can outmatch our family!" She almost snapped "We lack gym leaders, and yet you gave me two positions as the 7th and 8th gym leader when you can definitely give a position to Liam, Jeff, Kendall, or even Kayla! She's ten years old, and she throws a good punch!" She shook her head "no matter what you say, this role isn't going to change. Knowing how you make decisions" she glanced at dad "like the way you abandoned Wyatt, even if he did nothing wrong."

"Crystal, don't you dare talk-!"

"I can say whatever I want... because it doesn't matter. I've been away from you for this long because of what happened between you and Wyatt. He refuses to tell you where we live. If this never played out, maybe things could have been different. I could have been the child you expect me to be, but I guess I'm another disappointment, and you want to punish me like you punished Wyatt."

"Crystal, stop that," mom said "that was back in the past. Don't you think we already thought about how we treated Wyatt? It was wrong of us to do that, and think about it! and if we made him do what we wanted, he wouldn't have been able to keep you healthy."

"It seems that making up with him means nothing to you. Both of us are pretty much in the same situation. I'm just surprised I wasn't thrown out the family for being this way" she sighed "Wyatt... put everything in the line for me. He came here all the way from Kalos after what happened. I was the only one that was there when he came through those gates. The reason why he neglected the family is because you wanted to make him something he wasn't... and he knew it would get in the way of my health even if you believed I would be fine. The problem was the lacking of faith and trust..." wanting this conversation to end, she bowed to her parents

"--I'm sorry it had to be this way... I didn't expect us to talk about this. I know my position, and I know it's not going anywhere. I'll be stuck home as always after I'm done with this journey with West. I hope this doesn't leave a bad taste in your mouth, but I have to head off."

"What? But you just got here!" Mom started tearing up "Crystal, please. It doesn't have to be this way!"

"Until you tell me how you truly feel and lift this damn punishment, that's when I'll understand" her parents looked at each other, frowning. She turned to the rest of her family "I'm sorry that you have to witness this dilemma... I must be going. Perhaps I'll see you around town. I'm not sure if I'll be staying for too long" Tonya pulled on her dress to hand her something "hm?" She lifted an old thin leather book with a temple pressed on the front with faded wording that was almost difficult to read, but clear enough to understand "what's this...?"

"Hey, kid! Don't touch that! That's really important!" Zachary snapped

"Oh dear..." Scarlett took her shoulders "sorry brother. She just wanted to show Crystal how cool it looked" Crystal took it and stared down at it, seeing two blue and red locks on the sides, needing two keys to open it

"W-what is it...?" Froslass floated over to look as well.

"Nothing of your concern. It's top secret... If you don't mind, I need that back" Zachary said, walking up to her "I brought it in from the lab so I can analyze it more clearly."

"If it was too secret, Tonya wouldn't have got a hold of it. Might be impossible to think clearly since you're this drunk" Crystal sassed. He huffed and rolled his eyes "anyways, what is this?"

"It's a book that tells of the legend of Kannena... and also tells the Kimana's and Otashi's history on why things turned out the way they were. You know, on why they have so much hate towards us" Crystal's eyes widened.

"It's in a book!?"

"The only writing I could read from this here book is Otashi and Kimana, and it's on the back. It's impossible to even open it. So, I'm sure it's something to do with the families, but I can't tell if that's actually the case. Your sister Mia found it in the Harmony Temple of Nixa town. As an archaeologist, I spend my time trying to find ancient meanings behind old buildings and places, and Mia happened to find this here book in a hidden room."

"Isn't Mia always training?"

"Yeah, but she so happened to be there when I was working. The room we found it in was the main room of what the temple was made for. It was a large chapel in where they would pray to the legendary Pokémon; Glēgotan, and even summon it" Crystal shakily held the book close "the room was sealed off again thanks to some Pokémon still guarding it after so many years. it's kind of hard to read the text, and we tried for months to at least read the front of the book and even break the locks, but nothing worked"

"Maybe you're not smart enough to be an archaeologist" Crystal blurted out, making him lose balance a little, and not because he was drunk "the front of this book says here; Chronicle" Zachary jumped over to take a look

"Where do you see that? Are you pulling on my leg, kid?"

"I don't think you should be asking that when you're in this state" she lifted the book to look at the detail of the temple she seen in the magazine she had, but this was in fuller detail than the one today that's almost all destroyed except for a few parts.

"I'm sure I can read more of this on my own... I would like to know more about this legend. West is really into it as well, so... do you mind if I keep this?" He sighed

"If you can read this, then be my guest. I want to know what you got, so don't think I'm giving it to you. I want you to tell me what you know" he bumped his communicator against hers to exchange contacts "don't make me regret this, princess."

"Regret... you were the one who brought this to a kid's birthday party" Declan covered Zachary's mouth before he could say anything insulting. She looked at Tonya "Tonya... Why exactly did you feel the need to show this to me?" Tonya pointed at her nose.

"It's yours..." Crystal flinched, while everyone gasped

"She talked!" Her dad gasped

"H-How..?" Scarlett cupped her mouth "the doctor said she couldn't talk" Crystal looked at Tonya's eyes, surprised.

"What did you say? It's mine?" Tonya nodded.

"It's yours..." she pointed at Froslass "it's yours... you wrote it... so... you can remember... the life... you and... the warrior... went through" Crystal hugged the book, trying to keep a straight face, but was clearly in the state of fright, relief, and confusion.

"What did you say? Kid?" Zachary asked "you're muttering" Tonya lowered her arm and stayed quiet once again. Scarlett picked up her daughter and faced the family.

"We got to head to the Pokémon center to see what's going on! Thank you for coming! You can show yourselves out when you like!" The parents ran out of the house with their children. Eloise walked to the door with her family.

"Must've been something really important that made her have to talk. Tonya loves listening to stories, so I'm sure she wants to show her love towards them with you. Be careful with the book. Stories are wonderful things to carry with us in our lives. It makes it that much more exciting" she kissed Crystal's forehead "it was good seeing you, dear. Come to one of my book signings one day" she bumped her communicator with hers "I look forward to hearing about what you discover" Crystal bowed a little and watched her leave the house with her cousins bumping their communicator on hers without warning

"See ya later, cousin!" Liam grinned "we live on the other side of town, so don't be afraid to visit us."

"Bye! Kendall waved

"Be careful on your journey" Jeff smiled and walked out with Mary waving shyly towards her. Crystal looked over at the family members leaving, with a sigh. She turned her shoulder and peaked at her parents.

"I'll be on my way now. I'll video chat you when I get home."

"You're not going to tell us where you live? This is the first time seeing you in years!" Dad said

"You haven't seen Wyatt in years, why aren't you asking for him?" She shook her head and turned away "I'm sorry... I have to go. Please consider our feelings, papa" she reached to kiss her mom's cheek and walked out without another word.

This wasn't how she wanted to talk to her parents... She wanted to be happier and spend quality time with them after being separated for so many years, but she had to remember the situation that happened between them and Wyatt. Even if she doesn't pick sides, she wants them to be open to understand that everyone is suffering. The four of them wants something. Wyatt doesn't listen to her, and her parents don't listen to them. Why can't everyone grow up and stop acting like children?

"You know, you didn't have to be so mean to mom and dad" Olivia said, following after her "they haven't seen you in years. At least be a little sensitive."

"That topic was sensitive, and it shouldn't be taken lightly. You might not have remembered what happened, but do you expect me to be calm when our parents don't even consider our feelings? Wyatt and I are under punishment" she looked down

"How are you under punishment?" Olivia asked

"I might have been a bit dramatic, since I'm talking about something else. It's just easier to blame them... I can't just ignore what happened" she stopped walking, rubbing her eyes "West might hold that curse, but I feel like I still have it in some ways" she looked at the book she was given.

"What are you talking about?"

"Nothing... forget it" she looked at Olivia staring at her "say... I've been meaning to ask. You were in that forest talking to the spirits of children like always, right?"

"Yeah, so?"

"What about those spirits who were adults? Why don't you put them to rest as well?" Olivia blinked confusedly

"Wait... what? There are no adult spirits in that forest. There were only a few... but I already put them to rest! The only ones left now are the children who turned into Pokémon. Why do you ask?" Crystal continued walking again "no way! You can hear ghost too and you've been holding out on me?"

"It's not like that at all..." she gulped "I don't want to acknowledge that I can. When Wyatt brought me to our home for the first time, I seem to remember someone talking to me before I was sealed inside for years. It happened again when I left after so long... I'm not exactly sure if it was the same person, but..." she looked down at Froslass "it was the heart Froslass holds."

"I feel a strong presence within Froslass. I feel a troubled heart as well" Crystal looked up to see West training with an unfamiliar bird in his team in the middle of town "I feel another troubled heart within that Pokémon West has on his back... tell me what's going on" Crystal hugged the book

"It's too much to talk about. I need you to believe in me."

"Believe in you? Why? What's going on?"

"We have people trying to chase after us... until we take care of them, I can't go home — the reason why is nothing for me to explain since it involves nobody else than us. These people are planning something horrible. So don't worry, I'm going to protect you all."

"I don't get it. What's this got to do with Froslass or that Doublade? And you need to explain what's exactly going on between you, Wyatt, and our- your parents!" West overheard the chatter and stood there watching them

"Why don't you ask someone else? I can't properly think right now..." Crystal held her head

"Crystal..." Olivia frowned

"Do you really think it's a good idea to ask someone who's... hurt... about this whole thing?" Olivia looked down at her dress

"I'm sorry... I didn't even consider your feelings."

"Neither did they" she pet her head "I'll see you later, okay?" Olivia nodded and looked towards West

"That boy is different... compared to that Rhea girl. He's pretty cool."

"What did Rhea do?" Olivia rolled her eyes and turned to the side, where she didn't expect her Pikachu dressed Pokémon to be standing next to her. Crystal turned away, turning blue. That Pokémon has always been creepy...

"Well, let's just say she was loud" Crystal giggled "say... I didn't know you giggled" Olivia smiled "it's nice to see this side of you. Be careful, sis..." she hugged her "Will I see you tomorrow?"

"Yes... a lot happened in Mt.Lightning, so I want plenty of rest before I leave again" Crystal stepped towards West "see you later" she gave a small smile and hurried to West to watch him train with his new Pokémon
