Chapter 25: Cousins*
"What are you doing?" Crystal sweatdropped from her bed, staring at West sleeping on her floor the next morning while Froslass floated over a decent size white box of what she assumed was her medication
West stirred in his sleep, wearing a chocolate mustache while laying next to a to-go box with her name on it.
Froslass picked up the white box of possibly medicine and placed it on the bed while Crystal picked up the to-go box to place on her lap
"Thank you..." She told Froslass floating to the end of the room. Crystal looked at the white box and felt on it, knowing it was cold once it was placed on the bed "She must've kept it cool all night" Crystal smiled, feeling relieved that she has her medicine, and finally opened the to-go box on her lap to see a bunch of delicious looking foods in each holder, including a dessert she's been dying to try since forever... cheesecake!
"He really wants to fatten me up, huh?" She giggled, holding her mouth surprised. Did she... giggle? She blushed hard, knowing West was the reason for that "W-whatever... I might not even see past 20 years old" she ate her dinner for breakfast as she sat against the headboard of her bed "Might as well keep eating this way."
"How can you say that?" West said, popping his head from the edge of the bed, surprising her
"Look who decided to wake up..." he sat next to her "Why were you sleeping on the floor? In my room?"
"There was a long line in every restaurant, so I had to wait. The sun goes down fast here. I heard Rosebud city has longer days than nights, so looks like we arrived near nightfall. I probably would have come here sooner yesterday if it wasn't for this package landing on my head" he slapped the white box on the foot of the bed "Froslass took it like I didn't matter and took off" she giggled again, shocking him "Did you just giggle?" She pushed his face away since he was too close while eating
"No, get away from me" he laughed "You didn't answer my question."
"Why spend money on another room when we can share" he grinned "Would have been nice if we could share a bed, but Honedge kept pulling me back and tired me out."
"It was trying to keep you from getting yourself killed. Keep away from my bed, got it?" He nodded, chuckling "Speaking of beds... How you sleep?" He sat there, staring at nothing
"I had better nights."
"Had another terror again, didn't you?" He frowned. She lowered her fork and put the box to the side.
"I don't know what it is, but Cresselia can't do anything about it. I depended on her to help me... She's done so for this long, but I think it's getting too strong for her to handle" Crystal sighed and climbed off the bed to sit on his lap sideways and rest her head on his shoulder "C-Chris..?"
"I'm sorry it had to be that way... You should've just died and not make that wish back when it was our time... in the past. You would have been okay in this life... while I lived my days suffering" he pressed his lips together, tugging on the back of her dress.
"How can you just say that..?" She explained everything she learned about the switches of the lover's misfortune "So that's how it is... I can understand why he would do that, but to think the princess did the same. Still... I don't know why you say 'you' like I was the one that did it" he took her hand "but I would have done it again in a heartbeat."
"Perhaps this legend is getting to your head... Why do you persist on showing affection towards me even if we don't know each other that much, and we won't see each other..." she looked down "possibly again after the journey is done"
"I don't want to not see you again. I grew fond of you. I care about those around me so much, and I think that's why my sister got sensitive about us because of my growing feelings because she didn't want me to get hurt. But I know what I want. I felt fear all my life until I met you" he kissed her knuckle "You are my rock. You make me feel complete. I don't care if I'm being corny, I don't care if I'm coming off too fast, and I don't care if there's something out there that's trying to stop us... I like you! A lot!" Crystal looked down, but her chin was brought back up to gaze in his serious eyes filled with true emotion "even if you don't feel the same way, and even if it doesn't have to be like the legend... I know how I feel, and I'm not going to hesitate to make you happy" he held her cheek, leaning closer "Believe in me."
"West..." she felt herself leaning closer as well "I want to believe you, but until it's time for me to head home, I won't believe in what you say until you find out the truth."
"Truth?" She held his cheek, stopping a few inches from his lips
"The truth... will only set you free. You don't need me in your life, and you don't need me on this journey, but I need you. Let me stay with you till the very end" she pressed her forehead on his "please" he nodded, leaning to kiss her on the cheek passionately "W-West..."
"I understand loud and clear, princess" she blushed and reached back to take her food and started eating again, still sitting on him "do you want me to heat that up for you?" She chuckled
"I'm fine... by the way, I saw my auntie yesterday"
"Really?!" He smiled "That's great! How was it?"
"Sadly, I had to put her off to the side and leave them before they saw me" she sighed, knowing she only did that because of West "I was too tired to do anything, really" he nodded, holding her body closer while she ate "Do you mind?"
"You're the one on my lap" touché "Did you see your sister?" She didn't respond "Do you think she's as scary as you said she was because of the gym leader?"
"Uh..." she played with her food "You can say that... Hate to see how you'll meet the gym leader, though..." she smirked a little "Actually... we should do that first, shall we?" He flinched
"W-what!? Don't you want to meet your family first!?"
"Let's get it over with so we don't have to do it later" so that Olivia can be in the gathering and Crystal can say that one of her cousins is her sister "okay?" He nodded happily
"Yeah! Okay!" He hugged her again like a big stuffed Pokédoll. Crystal just looked to the side, eating while blushing hard. This is a bit too much...
West stood outside the Pokémon center, yawning widely while looking up at the bright sky "Why did she wake up so early anyway? Did she not sleep at all?" He yawned again "Switched their misfortunes, huh..?" He can see now why she's acting differently since leaving Osore town
"Excuse me?" He looked down to see a young girl, about 11 or so, hair all over her face and bags under her eyes, standing under him. She's... creepy "I'm looking for a girl with long blue hair. She has the same eyes as me. Have you seen her?" Same eyes as her? Now that he thinks about it... there's a lot of people who had the same eye color and shape as Crystal, starting from Wyatt and ending Leah and this little girl who might be her sister.
"Oh, you mean Crystal? Yeah, she'll be out in a minute" she put her hands together, not changing her facial expression.
"Oh, thank you... You're a lifesaver" she sounded thankful, but her voice doesn't sound all that different
"Hey, Mary!" A young boy, around 15, rushed over with a basketball, followed by a bunch of fangirls trying to get his attention. West sweatdropped. He seems popular "have you found our cousin yet?"
"Liam has another cousin? Ohh!" One of his fangirls squealed
"Maybe it's a boy! He must be handsome and cool like Liam!" Liam chuckled
"I heard she's a girl, ladies... So please calm down" his charming smile made them all swoon. This is weird...
"Does it matter which gender our cousin is?" Another younger boy, a little younger than Liam, ran over "We're here to welcome her! Why did you bring all your little friends?" The fangirls squealed when they saw the kid as well
"What's wrong with a party, Kendall?" Liam chuckled. West flinched when someone held his pants. Looking behind him slowly, he saw a little girl, around 5, holding him like she knew him.
"He's right. We need to be respectful of our family member we never met!" another kid, around the boy's age, came over.
"Never met?" West asked. They all looked at him "Isn't Mary here her sister?" Mary blinked confusedly
"Wha-?"
"Wow! He's really cute!" The young fangirls screamed when noticing West. He flinched and backed off a little "Are you related to the Ota-!?"
"You must be joking..." Crystal walked over "Why are there so many people here?" She glanced at the fangirls with a dark aura, knowing they were about to say their family name "You're making the space cramped! If you have no business here, I want you to leave! Now!" Her cousins shined at her elegance and beauty while the girls ran screaming
"Wow..." Liam gasped "That's so cool..."
"Those girls can be pretty scary sometimes. You must be something to make them leave so easily" Kendall laughed
"You must be Crystal! We've been waiting for you! Our parents told us we should come and look for you! This guy said he knows you" The last boy smiled. Crystal looked at West, him noticing she looked stressed out. If she hadn't come in time, those damn girls would have ruined everything.
"Is that so..?" She sighed "so you must be my cousins then" she looked down at Mary's creepy looking expression, knowing how she's perfect for the lie "and you're my little sister" Mary flinched, turning all red.
When seeing the desperate look on in her eyes, Mary quickly calmed down and smiled a little, taking the hand she was offered and blushed more. Crystal's elegance took everyone by surprise.
"I didn't know you didn't know your own sister, Chris" West said
"Well, I only knew her by pictures" she fixed her little dress and held the side of her skirt "it's nice to meet you all finally. I'm Crystal Hiyori..." her cousins blinked in confusion "I had decided to leave my home to finally meet my family. Because of my condition, this guy right here is giving me aid where ever I go" West smiled and bowed like a gentleman
"I'm Westly Kimana, nice to meet you!" The cousin's jaw dropped "I'm traveling not only to take care of Chris, but I also want to become champion, so I want to battle every gym leader to make that goal!" They stared at his determined eyes "look" he showed his bag strap "I got two!" Seeing the shine in them, it was clear to them that he was the real thing. They looked at Crystal looking away nervously
"I think I get it" The last boy with the caring personality smiled "We understand, cousin! My name is Jeffery!"
"Good to finally meet yah! I'm Kendall!" The outspoken one grinned
"I-I'm Mary" the long haired girl with her hair on her face stuttered
"And that little girl there is our cousin from another mom, that's Tonya" Kendall introduced the little girl hiding behind West's leg "She's mute, but some say she can see ghost."
"I-Is that so..?" Crystal's face turned blue. Tonya kept staring at Froslass standing there, while shaking like a leaf "She must be terrified of them then" Crystal walked over to pick up the little one "Hi there, nice to meet you" Tonya frowned "Want to say hello to my Pokémon?" Cleffa came out Crystal's hair and greeted Tonya by jumping on her face. Tonya gasped and reached out to hold it like a doll before it jumped on her face.
"Cleffa likes jumping on the people who look like Crystal..." West thought in his head "You're... really good with kids" He blushed. She flicked his forehead.
"Don't get any ideas, pervert" his jaw dropped.
"Me?! A pervert!?" She turned away "I didn't even say anything! I just said you were good with kids!"
"Why were you blushing then?" He held his cheeks
"B-blushing?!" She sighed. Even if it were to be that way, their relationship... it'll only be a matter of time before she... "S-Sorry if it seemed off that way..." she looked at him looking down "Just thought of it a little when seeing so many kids here."
"Huh? Are you saying you want this much children?" His face went scarlet red, panicking "Hate to meet the woman who would have to handle all those anger filling monsters you'll call children" his face went more red than possible
"W-Why are we talking about this?" He rubbed the back of his neck nervously "I-I'm going to face the gym leader now! See you later!" He ran off
"West?" Crystal blinked confusedly. She didn't think her sorry excuse for jokes would go that far
"What's with him?" Liam crossed his arms "Is he really a Kimana? He doesn't seem like the other one" she sighed.
"Cousin..." Mary pulled on her skirt "What's this about me being your sister..?" Crystal explained to them as much as they needed to know "So he doesn't know you're a gym leader... the same leader that banned his sister."
"Hate to see how he'll react when he finds out. I can see why you pick Mary to be your sister instead of Olivia since she's a gym leader" Crystal looked at Liam crossing his arms.
From what her parents told her, Liam is a boy who is old enough to be a gym leader, but doesn't have a single bone in his body to care about battles as much as his father "It might be risky."
"But he seems to care about you! Keep him with you as long as possible! You never know what may happen to you without having someone by your side" Jeff said.
"He likes you" Mary held her chin. Crystal sighed and put Tonya down.
"Actually... I already know this. It's because of that legend that's getting in his head" the kids looked at each other "I rather not be away from him... Olivia is creepy enough to cause his terrors to get worse."
"Terrors?" Mary asked. Crystal looked down and started walking away.
"I'll be heading off to look for him... If you don't mind"
"The last we heard from Olivia she went to the forest to do some creepy stuff again!" Kendall yelled. Crystal's face went blue again "Be careful!"
Tonya watched her leaving and spotted Froslass following behind with a misty cloud floating inside its body, taller than she was, like a ghost that's shaped perfectly like Crystal. She also saw a figure behind West that looked a lot like him before he left...
Looking up, West stared at a creepy looking abandoned office building that stood in the gloomy part of the town. His knees were shaking, much like Crystal who was standing behind him.
"S-She's not in there" she said. West slowly looked at her uncomfortable face staring at the building "My little cousins said they saw her going to the forest..."
"F-Forest..?" She gulped
"I-I don't want you going through the creeps. It can make your terrors worse... I can look for her if you want."
"N-no, that's fine. I appreciate your concern, but this is my battle. I have to put my game face on and do this" he pumped his fist "You should be with your family. They can take care of you while I earn my third badge."
"Forget it, I'm going with you" he smiled.
"I didn't think you cared that much"
"W-well, I don't want anything happening to my travel companion" she pouted, looking away. He laughed
"Yeah, 'cause that's all I'm here for, right?" Her heart dropped, even if it was taken as a joke "Just kidding. Let's get going then, to..." she dug in her bag and took out the magazine to read on the forest near Rosebud town.
"The Forest of the Dolls..." chills went down her spine "What the hell... She's only 13" she muttered to herself, making sure West didn't hear "All because she liked hanging dolls... I can't believe it's named after what she pulled" Slowly thinking it over, she suddenly heard the scream of what sounded like Olivia and ran towards the forest where some signs lead her.
The forest had a dark and gloomy feeling. West was running after her, yelling for her attention, but all she could hear was the sounds of children speaking, crying, and screaming.
"They killed us!" Crystal froze, taking a step back
"I wanna go home!"
"Please!"
The creepiness is only starting!
