Chapter 23: Possession*

Crystal stared at West and Leah eating slowly on the dinner table. They seem to be off in a daze, thinking without realizing everyone was watching them

Ryan pretended not to notice the silence, knowing that something was wrong with Leah. Everything was quiet, and even if Crystal liked the quiet, she didn't like it right now

"Leah" Crystal spoke, only getting half her attention "What's wrong? You were fine earlier, weren't you? What's your excuse on being quiet?"

"Oh~! Nothing" she didn't look like she was that much on earth at the moment "I uh... just had a long personal chat with Wyatt outside, is all" Crystal stood up by slamming her hands on the table, jolting everyone back to earth

"What!? He was here!?" Leah just realized what she said

"W-Well... He came by-"

"And you were going to keep this from me!? He knows I'm here... I'm not going back yet!" She ran to the guest room

"Hold on! Chris!" West yelled, running after her, but failed when the door slammed closed "Why did you get so mad all of a sudden!?"

"A... young man named Wyatt came to the house" Leah said "asking if he's seen a girl that looks like Crystal" she half lied "I didn't know who he was, so I told him I didn't" she looked down, biting her lip. West looked back at the door

"Don't worry, Chris! I'm going to have my match with Leah, and we can leave. Are you okay with that?" She wants to leave immediately, but waiting for him won't be so bad... She had spent years waiting for someone to come back while staying in her room.

She shut her eyes, hugging her legs, realizing how Wyatt is still searching for her since he loved her that much. She treated him wrongly, but he put his life last only for her and thinks of no one else but her. This journey is getting more and more stressful for her health. She doesn't know how long she can last before it gets to the point where no one can take care of her anymore

"It's fine..." she muttered, holding her head "I'll be waiting here. Don't let me drag you down, be happy" she cupped her mouth, not knowing why she said that so suddenly.

West's eyes widened, feeling pressure on his wrist, feeling the erg to bang on the door and start crying again "Is something wrong? Why do you sound like that? Are you getting sick!?" Crystal heard the panic in his voice "Chris! Come out! I'm not going anywhere until I take a good look at you!" She leaned on the door, ignoring his callings.

Froslass offered the Ice orb, letting her hold it while the princess floated behind Froslass."The Ice Orb bestoweth the power to mend one's soul, a precious gift. Utilize it whilst it remains within thy grasp. I sense that thine own mortal vessel hath endured trials upon this active odyssey." She uttered in gentle tones. "Seek also the Fiery Orb, for it may offer succor to Westly in his plight."

"It'll help him...?" Froslass nodded

"Indeed, for he bears the weight of a curse, a heavy burden that deserves remedy" Crystal gasped loudly, pressing herself on the door in terror.

West... is cursed?! Did their incarnations really switch their misfortunes they were born with!? "Time is fleeting, and the influence of the lunar feathers doth wane swiftly"

"The lunar feather's power won't be enough to help him anymore?" she nodded and disappeared without another word. Crystal started breathing heavily, shocked to hear what she just heard

"West... gets terrors because of me..?" Or the warrior who might have asked to take away her curse without knowing she asked to take away his illness

"Get that off of him!" Leah shouted

"Chingling! Use Shadow ball!" Ryan shouted. There was a big ruckus outside the door. Crystal opened the door and saw West gripping on Honedge, getting possessed. West's eyes were glowing in anger

"Who art thou to bar my path from my beloved princess? She languishes in illness, her days numbered!?" Crystal flinched "I must tend to her needs! Only through my care can I hope to save her! Thou shalt not part me from my princess!" He swung Honedge like it was an actual sword "Darest thou challenge a warrior who hath battled in the crucible of war? One who can grasp the flames without suffering? I shall brook no further condescension! Stand aside!" He ran to swing at Leah. Crystal reached out in panic

"Stop it! Damian!" West froze "That's my sister! Don't touch her!" He kneeled down to her

"I humbly beg pardon, for I was unaware of thine own kinship to her" so this is really the warrior within the Honedge possessing him "Diane..." he frowned at her "Thou hast relieved me of my ailment without my request, an act for which I find myself unable to grant forgiveness. I cannot endure to witness thee in torment. Why have you done this?" he stood up

"I can pose the same query unto thee!" She retorted with a stern gaze. Leah stared at her unusual behavior, seeing Froslass closing its eyes and glowing "Wherefore, I implore, didst thou strip me of my curse when it was my burden to bear?" He flinched

"H-How..?" He walked, wobbling towards her "I yearned to bestow happiness upon thee in our afterlife, free from the shackles of thy curse. Yet, in my attempt, I inadvertently alleviated thy malady, returning us to the very beginning" Crystal shook her head, not understanding why she was speaking in a different voice, but could control her mind unlike him

"It doesn't have to be that way" she spoke her mind again "We need to find the Fiery orb. Our bodies are growing weaker, and your terrors will worsen to a point where the Lunar feathers will not work. Let us go together" he nodded, taking her hand to kiss. Crystal remained still, watching that even if Damian was taking over West's mind, the actions would be the same with him

"Yes, my love"

"Release yourself from this body, now" Honedge removed itself from West, letting him fall on his knees "West..." he sniffled, reaching to hold her waist and hug her. She blushed hard, trying to push him away "W-What are you doing?"

"I feel like I got my energy drained away" Leah patted his back

"Honedge must've taken everything out of you to speak again... Rest for now. We can have our battle later" he looked up at Crystal staring at the floor "Crystal, if this Wyatt guy is looking for you, it'll be best to stay inside. There shouldn't be a huge rush. You need to regain your energy. It's most important" she nodded. Seeing how the Lunar feather almost didn't have any effect, that means his body is growing weak like hers. It'll be best to find the Fiery orb immediately once they recover.

"That's fine, I understand. West needs to relax. I can stay with him" she looked down at him, noticing he was asleep again "What's happening right now...?"

It didn't take that long to recover. It was only a few hours until West was well enough to stand again and readied himself for a battle while Crystal sat in the stadium with the Ice orb in hand, taking in the energy it held to help heal her a little better than what her medicine could do. She still needed to take them, and she was close to running out as well

"Great. I've only seen two sisters, and I already need some refills" she took out the whistle in her shirt and stared at it "Not here... He still might be around."

"I'm ready!" West shouted "Bring it on!" Leah looked up from her book she was writing on since what happened with the possession. She loves research and takes notebooks around with her wherever she goes. It wasn't surprising that she was writing during the night and morning when West had his episodes

"Feisty one, aren't you?" Leah smiled "Same excitement like that Rhea girl... but the only difference between you and her is the potential in your eyes" West looked confused "I see it clearly..." West stared at Leah's gentle eyes, slowly realizing that they look so much like...

He shook it off and threw it behind him "There's no way" he muttered "Well, I'm going to show you the kind of potential I got! Let's go! Houndoom!" His Houndoom came out, ready for battle

"Will there be a time when you start finding another Pokémon instead of counting on Cresselia to help you if Houndoom loses again?" Crystal asked. West nearly fell from the comment

"I've been training since Houndoom lost! He's fine! Have more faith in me!"

"It's not about faith" she crossed her arms "It's about building your team... You can't depend on three Pokémon when one of them isn't really yours, and the other is a legendary" he groaned

"Well, do you want to go Pokémon hunting with me?" She snorted

"Do I have a choice?" He laughed, showing his happiness. She just sat there, sitting with a blank look on her face, hiding a small smirk she couldn't avoid. Leah took out her high-tech camera and took a picture at them staring at each other without knowing their photo was being taken

"I don't think she'll appreciate that" Ryan chuckled

"If they were the reincarnations of the legendary lovers, they have to be soulmates. This is going to look beautiful in their wedding pictures" she blushed, giggling. Crystal eyed her holding a camera

"I hope you're using that for research, Leah!" Leah flinched

"R-Right!" Crystal stood up and walked away

"Where you going!?" West asked

"I'm going to the graveyard" They watched her walk away

"B-Be careful..." She smiled a little at him and walked away completely. Cleffa jumped to company West this time, seeing the look on his face like he was going to be left lonely

"Tell me, West... If there were a time where Crystal would end up like Kyle, what would you do?" Ryan asked out of the blue. Leah kept writing

"All I know is that you better shut the fuck up!" Ryan looked surprised "Don't you dare talk about her that way! She would never backstab me!"

"That could be true. She seems like a distant, yet caring person... but I come to wonder, will you backstab her?" Leah held a serious look that made West freeze "Am I talking nonsense? I better hope I am, West Kimana..."

"W-what?"

"You might be different than the rest of your family, but break that fragile girl's heart, and I'll have the last gym leader ban you" if he were to hurt Crystal, Crystal would have done it anyway all on her own, maybe

"I-I don't know what you're talking about! Like I'll ever hurt Crystal! She's everything to me!"

"You don't know her" she glared

"What with this sudden change of behavior!?"

"All a part of my research... I am a scientist/professor after all. Not only to study the nature of the mountain's storms, not only to study how nature impacts on Pokémon's bodies and attacks, but the human heart and brain and how love can affect everything... even our health when it isn't even a physical thing. The way people look at other and suddenly build emotions that can't be the same towards another. Learning you both are fragile; everyone has their way of doing things others can't imagine. That's why I don't judge by appearance. I judge by truth, potential, and dedication... I'm not going to go easy on you, Kimana! So, let's start this battle now" he nodded, gulping.

"It seems like you suddenly started hating me... but I meant what I said! Crystal is a tender soul, even if she doesn't seem that way! The first time meeting her was the first time I felt complete. I always felt fear until I met her. She is my rock" Honedge peaked from a corner "She's my princess" Leah nodded and sent out a Rotom "A ghost type?!"

"And electric type! Electric-type is my specialty, so let's see how this will play out! Use Thunderbolt!" The Rotom sneakered and strikes Houndoom. Honedge flew in front to use protect to block the attack and use a shadow ball to counter-attack. Everyone was taken back

"Isn't that the..." West gasped

"Why does it keep coming back?!" Ryan shouted. Honedge looked towards West, staring at him deeply like they had a soul to heart conversation

"You want to join me..?" Honedge floated over as West reached out

"No! West! Your energy will be drained again!" Leah gasped. The two held each other, staring at each other for what felt like hours. An image of a saddened older version of West, rougher around the face, stared into him like he looked through a mirror. West gasped, letting go of Honedge

"I guess you are who you are... You want to join my team?" It nodded. He smirked and pumped his fist "Alright! Let us dance with the flames!" His voice spoke in a different tone... not like his. What was that...?

~

Crystal walked back to the graveyard with her hood up, followed by Froslass not even bothering to look around her. That means the coast is clear of Wyatt being around

They stood in front of her grandparent's gravestones again, staring at the flowers her oldest sister; Emilia, have grown in her garden with her Pokémon

"I'm back" she spoke "I know it's only been a day... but so much already happened. The Princess of Ice spoke to me... in person" she looked down at her Ice orb "The legend is repeating itself. West is making his own war like the warrior fought his own battle... and the princess was a lone woman who stood elegantly and proudly, pretty much like me. The only difference... instead of when the princess saved the warrior from committing suicide, West saved me when I was in the edge of possibly dying by myself. I hate to say this but it looks like we're soul mates" she blushed "The legendary lovers prayed to take away their love's misfortunes that caused their life before, but the both of them asked for the same thing, resulting in everything to be like how it was those years ago like them" she hugged the orb "He holds the curse, and I hold the illness. Are we going to die...?"

"Fros..." Froslass frowned

"I'm overthinking this. Even if I knew Wyatt was taking proper care of me, I knew I wasn't going to be around long... and I didn't know West carried the same fate because of his terrors" she cupped her face "All this is overwhelming... How do I handle something like this...? Team Victoria is after us, because of who we are and have the ability to hold the orbs. The legendary Pokémon that helped the lovers live a little longer, the Pokémon that brought harmony and connection to this region because of them...They want to take advantage of it. What will become of this place I wanted to see for so long..?" She kneeled, sobbing on the flowers "What's going to happen to us..?" She looked at the grave, reading the name and sobbed "What's going to happen to Wyatt?" Her body shook hard

"He only has me! He believes in me! I believed he'd come back because he was too strong to- to-!" She held her heart in pain "I waited for him... and he came back. I'm sorry I left him! I want to go back to him healthy and well! Like he did when he came back! If I die... What will he do!? He's not going to go to any of the universities that want him. He only became a doctor for me..."

The image of the princess crying to the legendary Pokémon, holding herself with the scepter, begging with tears and shouting, popped in her head

"This is all happening again..." she gasped, wide-eyed "I don't want to lose them... not again" she leaned weakly on the dirt below her and rested her head "History repeats itself..." she closed her eyes, feeling her heart slowing down "I'm going home to you healthy... Wyatt. I want you to believe in me, as I believed in you when everyone didn't. Please Wyatt..." she closed her eyes, feeling a hand stroking her hair "believe in me..." she fell asleep

"Alright... Crystal" Wyatt sighed "If that's the way you feel, that's how it's going to be. I'll believe in you" he closed his eyes "Because you believed in me when no one else did. You've waited for me for so many years. We were just kids, and that whole situation led to this, huh?" He smiled "You just want to make excuses, is that it?" He shook his head "No... I know you just want to see everyone again. I kept you from a normal life... I'm sorry. I'll believe in you, so come back to me safely... I'll be heading back to the gym to run it again, but don't think I won't come back to watch over you later" he stood up "That Kimana kid... Who would have known? I bet you haven't told him who you are. Fair enough... He's there for your health, but I want you to know, I'm always going to be here, even if he walks away. We wouldn't want the story to repeat itself" he glared at the sky "The legend... of the warrior who abandoned the princess when she needed him the most"
