Chapter 14: Forest*
"How much do you know of the legend between the Princess and Warrior?" West asked, sitting in the Pokémon center while Crystal took her blood pressure. She didn't have the nurse's bother her for obvious reasons. They rented a room individually the night before, now getting ready for their trip to Summerlight City in a bit
"All I heard is about the witch, never the princess. That if you wander off and get lost, she will find you and will freeze you so she can store you in her gallery. I knew it was just a folktale trying to get kids to stay with their parents."
"I heard of that folk tale... Doesn't that sound exactly like Froslass's thing? Maybe Froslass is the princess, and we don't know it. I mean... They say Froslass was a woman who died in snow storms" they stared at Froslass not even looking at anything "Who knows? maybe that's why she chose to stay with you" that's too... insane to accept "Anyway... I'll tell you the legend if you want..."
"That would be helpful since we have to avoid Team Victoria who is technically trying to take us just because our 'ancestors' were known to have the ability to hold orbs that can cause an abnormal death."
"So how the story of the princess goes is that this woman was a princess living in the castle in the middle of the Frost Forest. She was silent and hardly spoke. They called her the Snow Princess because of not only where she lived, but because her heart was as cold as ice" sounds familiar
"Many fear to anger her. When you do, you are cursed and will be forced to work upon her staff who are tortured if refused or did something wrong" did she really do that? No, it's a legend "and once killed, she'd have you frozen outside her walls and keep you in her collection of frozen bodies. I don't know if she had a family, but she was alone..." The two walked out after finishing and headed through the streets.
Crystal wore the new clothes she picked out. Instead of her usual dark clothing, she decided to pick out some nice pastel colors to lighten up her look and hide her appearance from whom is trying to search for her.
Weavile probably won't even find her like this... and even with her hair up and everything, even West didn't recognize her when she stepped out her room and walked past him. She even bought a sun hat just in case, and to also protect her skin
"Now there were a few versions of this legend. I'll tell you the one I know" West spotted a cotton candy machine and ordered two "Have you ever had cotton candy before?"
"It's been so long" he handed the blue colored fluff "Oh..." he smiled
"For you!" She gently took the handle and picked at the sugar with her fingers, questioning him if it was okay to eat like she was a child. She couldn't help it... It's been so long being out in the world
West took a bite to show her otherwise, so she took a bite and freaked out a bit when it disappeared "I forgot it did that" she blushed. He laughed and petted her head "It's not funny, idiot..."
"I know, it's just cute!" She huffed, walking away "okay, so back to what I was saying! Now, this part is debatable, because some say she didn't have a family, but whatever. Her family summoned the princess, so she left the castle" he thought for a moment "Let's see... When she arrived to the temple she was summoned to, which is a temple that is still standing! We can go there later on in the journey! This temple was being built by the people the temple enslaved. She arrived and took notice of the slaves around her, bowing at her arrival. The one who brought her attention was one who wasn't with the others. He was standing over at a cliff where the beach was... preparing suicide. The other version did have him be a coal miner who became a warrior and into a slave later, and that he was going to fall to his death when she spotted him and saved him, but I honestly don't know which version is the actual legend.
"-One version is of the slave either being a slave first and was saved later to become a warrior, or another version is of him being forced to be a warrior for the temple, and because of a crime he committed, he became a slave... Both versions are pretty dark" West nodded to himself and ran over to a lottery booth
"Wanna give it a try?" She walked over and checked the rewards on the walls of the gold marble containing the prize of a trip to the Kalos region, the silver was for a free master ball, the copper was for a plushie that was the same size as Cleffa sleeping on Crystal's bag, and a white ball being for the loser
"I'm not interested in anything, so go ahead" the spinning ball machine spun around as soon as West paid for his turns
"I'm never lucky with these kinds of things" West sweatdropped, hoping to get a good color, but got a white ball instead "of course... Let me try again! I have two more chances!" The next turn resulted in the same marble "Awe, come on! This thing must be filled with nothing but white ones" he whined. Crystal took a look at the machine and decided to take a spin "Good luck... This game is bogus" a gold ball plopped out "W-What!?"
"Congratulations! You won a free trip to the Kalos region!" The lady behind the counter shook a rattle for celebration. Crystal picked up the ball to look at before handing it back to the woman
"Can I exchange for another turn?" The people around her muttered why she would do something like turn down a free vacation
"W-Why would you do that?" West asked
"Excuse me?" A stranger walked over "I seem to notice that you were trying to give back your reward. If I may, I would love to buy off the reward if you don't mind."
"Leave me alone" she said almost immediately
"What?"
"You're trying to take someone else's luck and take it with money? How about you try to win a trip yourself instead of walking up to someone you don't know and give away money"
"But I've tried so many times! And I was being nice and offer to trade"
"I don't care. You don't know me" she smirked, liking to disappoint the guy "Better luck next time with someone who cares... I like to exchange this, please"
"Uh... sure" the lady behind the counter took back the ball so she can spin again, getting a copper colored ball and received a seel stuff plushie. Crystal took that instead and smirked at the man's shocked face
"How about you buy yourself your way there, instead? See yah" she walked past everyone and walked over to West leaning on the wall nearby. He stared at her everyday expression, not even affected about crushing someone's dreams just like that
"Was that necessary? You were pretty mean" she huffed, hugging her precious seel plushie
"I don't care... Got a problem?" He rubbed the back of his neck
"No... Not really" he chuckled "You remind me of Aaron, but you're probably more terrible" he laughed "I see you preferred the toy instead. Any reason why you didn't want the trip?"
"Well... Of course, I can't do such a thing. My journey is going to be short, and even if I had the freedom, I can't leave the region due to my condition. It wouldn't let me leave. Besides, my parents told me so much about Kalos. I can speak Kaloeon and was even born there"
"Whoa! For real?!" She nodded "Speak Kaloeon for me, baby!"
"Shut up" he laughed
"Just kidding, but seriously though... How about telling me something in Kaloeon?"
"No" she walked away. There was nothing else much to do left in Ona Town, other than coming back to ride the cable car once finished with Summerlight City, and then off to the third city where her youngest sister lives as a fairy-type gym leader. Because she is only 13, she stays with their relatives when it's not her day off. All the underage girls head back home to the Pokémon league to their actual guardians on weekends, who Crystal is dying to see
West watched Crystal eating the cotton candy with Cleffa like she was a little girl. Her eyes tried looking dull and bored, but there's no hiding the happiness on her face
"Don't get sugar all that often, huh?" He chuckled
"Hm.." she cleaned her face and handed the rest to him "I do all the time. I just haven't eaten cotton candy in a long time" he waved the stick around
"You don't want the rest?" She glanced at what's left of her treat, wanting to have the rest of it. She had to keep her health in balance, especially when she isn't home to figure how to gain it back without doing something wrong, maybe "Come on, I can tell you want the rest" Cleffa whined, wanting it "You can't have any. It's bad for you, little one" it started crying. Crystal held it in her arms and rocked it side to side to calm it
"You already ate when we got to Ona town. Are you starving again?" She asked
"It's a baby, he's going to eat a lot until he grows up" she lifted it in the air, making it giggle
"Having babies is weird... Even if this is a Pokémon, raising them can be odd"
"You said you were surrounded by Eevees when you were younger" she nodded, putting Cleffa on his shoulder
"Yes, and right after hatching, they want to eat and eat. They don't understand that they can't eat all at once. It's bad for them"
"You're a good mom" she blushed, turning away and headed into the Treethorn Forest
"Anyway... You never finished the legend of the princess and the Warrior" he snapped his fingers
"Oh right!" He stopped to look up ahead at a woman in a strange blue dress that looked a bit historical with the corset hugging her waist, pushing her breast to reveal too much, wore a large black soldier like coat, black tall lace heeled boots, held an umbrella, and had bright red hair. She was looking around the forest they approached before she noticed and smiled, hurrying over. Crystal hid behind West, staring at the pair of eyes she can tell were dark and mischievous
"Hello! You two look like a cute couple!" The woman put her hands together. Her clothing was quite vintage looking... without a doubt, this woman has to be part of that gang that attacked the shrine. What was their name again? Victoria? Victorian?
"Thanks!" West smiled, not knowing this woman was probably out to get them
"I've gotten lost around my way in this forest. Do you mind if I tag along with you to get to the next city? I won't be a burden" she put her hands together in an innocent way, winking at him "I promise" Crystal's eye twitched for some reason
"I don't mind, do you?" He asked Crystal. She gripped on the back of his jacket, grabbing on his skin. He groaned and jumped away, knowing she was making it obvious she didn't want her around "C-Cris... Don't do that" Cris? Did he give her the same nickname her mom gives her? "Come on. We have to help this woman. No need to be jealous" he smirked. Gripping on his skin to mess with him again, she huffed and walked past the woman while lowering her sun hat
"I don't care, as long as she doesn't slow us down" she glanced at the woman, side eyed "Try something, and you'll regret it" the woman giggled, putting her hands together
"How cute! I'm delighted that you agree to let me join you!" She bowed "I hope I won't become a burden! I'm Britney! And you are?"
"I'm-" Crystal cupped West's mouth immediately
"-not interest in making friends with you, stranger. Don't waste our time! I'm in too much of a hurry to deal with anything or anyone like you!" She blinked confused
"Anyone like me? What do you mean by that?" Crystal crossed her arms
"Exactly as I said, now let's go" she told West
"Okay!" He hurried to her side, carrying the silence while Britney was a bit far behind, following them "Cris... What's with you? You just suddenly got angry" he whispered
"First of all, don't call me that like we're close"
"We are close, aren't we? We're friends" she lowered her hat to hide her blush
"Couldn't you tell with her clothing... She's dressed vintage. She has to be a member of that gang"
"Oh, come on! Just because of how she dressed? She seems nice"
"No, she's faking it... I could see the look in her eyes" West knew of her talent of reading people, so he took her word for it and peaked over at the woman holding a communicator around, trying to find a signal. Noticing he was watching, she smiled kindly and waved
"It seems hard to believe..." he told Crystal
"Maybe for you"
"Right..." he nervously laughed and walked backward, facing the woman "So! Your name is Britney? What brings you to the forest dressed like that?" She giggled
"Oh? You like?" She winked "I always try to dress my best to represent how high class I am" Crystal rolled her eyes "But it's the wrong time to dress this way while in the middle of a grassy road. I was on my way to Summerlight City when I got lost here. Not to mention I lost my Pokémon... I'd figure to see it as we walked, but nothing popped up"
"And you fail to mention that in the first place?" Crystal narrowed her eyes
"Well yes, but I would have mentioned it if we got close to the exit. Don't get your panties in a bunch! I know what I'm doing!" Britney waved, smiling with her eye twitching
"Looks like you don't... If you're so confident, we'll leave you here" Crystal waved, mocking the way Britney waved "See yah later, not" she walked away with West
"Wait! I really do need help!"
"Go help yourself... Team Victorian grunt" the woman didn't respond to that. Snorting, Crystal looked back at her with her arms crossed, seeing the glare on Britney's face "Did I trigger something?"
"How..? How could you tell?"
"Please... Who wears clothes like that in the middle of this warm spring?" West was going to respond "Don't say it" she knew she wore a heavy dress when meeting him, but he doesn't know that it's all she owns! "Was getting lost your plan on catching up to us? What do you exactly want from us?"
"You are pretty clever, aren't you? Fine! You got me! I am Team Victoria's Admin, Britney! And I want you and your ice orb..." Britney held her hip, flipping her red hair "So let's not make this difficult. Surrender yourself!"
"I'm not going anywhere with you, and I don't have the ice orb. You stupid wannabe whore" the admin gasped loudly at the insult "Think you can get away with anything you're trying to pull? Think again. You're wasting your time"
"You're not getting away! I'm not going to let you go! And your little slave there too!" She pointed at West blinking confused "Don't think I don't know who you are as well! Altaria! Use Mist!" Out of nowhere, white mist started surrounding the area to a point where Britney disappeared
"Where she go?" West asked. Crystal remained there, unaffected by what might happen
"Don't do anything stupid, whore" she said calmly
"Why you! Use sing!" A sweet voice started humming from the trees. If this continues longer, the ice orb in Froslass's body could be taken. Not wanting to get involved with this gang, Crystal send out her Castform, calling out an attack that might be risky to her health
"Castform! Use blizzard!" Castform turned into its snowy form and filled the air with outrages cold wind. West got knocked off his feet while Crystal remained standing, holding down her hat. He hurried to stand and wrap his arms around her from behind, surprising her to see him trying to keep the cold wind from touching her
"Hey! It's too cold!" Britney shouted. Castform died down the storm, showing a passed out Altaria right in front of Britney barely looking up to see the storm disappearing "A-Altaria!" Crystal looked up to see the results
"Looks like you found your Pokémon. We'll be leaving now" West took her hand to storm out the forest as fast as possible, not knowing Froslass stood there, watching Britney crying down at her Pokémon
"They'll pay for this..." a girl that's lost in the middle of a snowy pathway... Froslass shook in excitement and towered the girl, eyes glowing in hunger "huh..?" She cried "Y-You're..." Froslass reached over to touch her, aiming to freeze her before leaving when she felt the presence of Wyatt's Litwick approaching a few miles away
~
Oh man! Froslass got hungry there!
