More Than Friends

Though Willa was in a study group, she was finding ways to text her friend as Charlene rushed around her room trying to find the perfect outfit.
So is it a date? Willa asked as Charlene sent her a picture of a short green dress with an open back.
Idk. Maybe. Could be. What do you think of the dress? Her phone chimed again as she pulled a blue blouse that was fitted towards the top and flared at the at bottom over her waist line.
Dress is too formal. Wear jeans and a nice top. What about the blue one? Willa texted back, referring to the top that Charlene had just pulled out of her closet.
Kay. That's what I was thinking too... So do U think it's a date? His call was so random...
Willa sent back a simple reply
Idk. He's picking you up right?

Yeah.

It might be... Ask him.

NO! I will not! I need to get ready, he'll be here soon.

Good luck.

An hour after Maybeck's unexpected phone call he drove up to Charlene's house in an older, slightly beat up car he and Jelly used. He was dressed in a semi-tight, plain, black t-shirt and jeans with a pair of old tennis shoes. He walked up to the door and rang the bell. Part of him felt nervous though he didn't understand why. He and Charlene were friends. No reason to be nervous. It's totally normal for friends to be hanging out he kept telling himself, but the slight nerves stayed. He liked Charlene. In a more than friends way, though he doubted she felt the same way.
Charlene heard the doorbell ring as she was putting the tube of glittery pink lip gloss she had just put on in her purse. She rushed to the door and opened it with a huge smile on her face. Standing in front of her was Maybeck. She had butterflies. This is silly, he's just your friend and your just going to the mall, no big deal she told herself as she tried to push away the butterflied his smile gave her.
"Hey,"Maybeck sounded just as casual as always. His overconfidence faked for once in his life, there was something about this girl that made him scared to mess anything up. He couldn't help think how beautiful she looked in such  casual outfit, not very dressed up, but stunning.
"Hey,"Charlene said back as she stepped out of the door way and shut it behind her. The attempts to make the butterflies go away failed. Friends, just friends she told herself, though deep inside her she wanted to be more than friends.
They walked to Maybeck's car in silence, once they reached it he opened the passenger side door for her.
"Being a gentleman? That's new,"Charlene said with a joking tone to her voice.
"Really? I didn't notice,"he fired back in an equally sarcastic tone. One of the things Charlene loved about him....
