The First Dance
Soon the two found that they'd sang for almost an hour and both were overjoyed. Overjoyed by singing without worry of being judged, but mainly overjoyed by each others company.
Somehow through all the singing and soft laughter they'd ended up closer to each other than either had realized, although neither seemed to mind. There was the silence of a few seconds between songs and in realizing their closeness, it really was quite, unlike the other times filled with giggles. But the silence wasn't bad. Not awkward. No resentment of the fact that if either were to lean forward they would probably end up in a kiss.
Then the next song came on. A cover. 'Heaven' by BoyceAvenue. Willa hummed the song but didn't say the words aloud as she rested her head on the chest of Philby's green cotton t-shirt. The boy did his best to calm his racing heart, fearful the girl leaning on him would feel it and question him. He sang the lyrics softly in her ear, having to lean his head down a bit to position his lips next to her ear. A surge of confidence flooded him and he wrapped his arms around her waist pulling he ever so slightly closer. She could hear his heart which had finally steadied, it made her feel safe. It gave her a soft feeling, like she was about to melt. As if to keep herself from becoming nothing more than a puddle, she reached her arms up and draped them over Philby's slightly slouched shoulders. He still sang and they began to sway. A sway turned into a dance. Slow. Steady. Soft.
The song finally ended after an eternity of pure bliss they shared. The movement stopped but they stayed pressed together. They stayed in silence a moment, soaking in all that had just happened. The music started again breaking the silence but neither paid it much mind. Philby then broke the silence between the two, "Our first dance," a short pause."as a couple..." The ending seemed added last minute and not thought through. Philby grew nervous at the girls silence.
"I guess it is.. Does that mean this 'our song' now?" she paused and began to speak just as Philby was opening his mouth,"And... did i hear you say 'as a couple'? Is that what we are?" They were looking at each other, a teasing glint in Willa's eye as she said the last part.
"That's what we are if that's what you want us to be," at this point they were both blushing ferociously,"and yes, it's now our song." She giggled and it turned out to be contagious, for withing the next seconds both were in a fit of laughter for no apparent reason.
Once their laughs died down Willa spoke,"I wouldn't mind us being a couple, and the look on your face says the same thing..."
