After the Party

Amanda rested her head gently on Finn's shoulder at the same moment Mrs.Whitman came back out with a tray of warm chocolate chip cookies. The sweet comforting sent made Amanda's heart lift. Being that she never really had a mom (that she remembered), she loved it when Mrs.Whitman did things like this. Motherly things. Make cookies. Lately she had even been going to her for advice. Mrs.Whitman had become a sort of mother figure to her.
A smile spread across the face of the loving woman when she saw Amanda's head on her son's arm. She'd long known that Finn loved this girl and could tell she felt the same way. If there was anyone she wanted her son to be with, it was her.
"Thank,  Mom,"Finn said as she set the cookies on the coffee table in front of them.
"Thank you, Mrs.Whitman."
"You're welcome, Sweeties," she said smiling.
"Mom..."Finn grumbled, embarrassed. Amanda laughed.
"Fine! I'll give you two some privacy,"Mrs.Whitman said as she left them alone in the living room.
Finn carefully set an arm around Amanda.
"Let's watch a Disney movie,"she said somewhat cheerfully,"just nothing with stuff we've seen much of in the park.."
"That leaves a narrow list... But ok."
They sat in silence thinking for about 5 minutes, thinking of a movie that wouldn't cause nightmares proved harder than expected.
Amanda finally broke the silence,"Brother Bear?"she asked, not being able to think of a reason this might not work.
"Sounds good to me."
Although they had the movie playing, they were more elated than either realized. They soon feel asleep in each other's warm embrace before the movie was even half way over.
