Chapter 52: Nero

Back on the Gummi Ship, Sora was lost in thought. He was not only thinking about Roxas, but also that vision he saw.

The imagines of his friends swallowing by the darkness and three red eyes flash through his mind.

Sora's mind: That vision... is it real or not?

Donald then decides to ask him about something.

Donald: Sora, what about the 'power of waking'?

Sora: (annoyed) You had to remind me?

Goofy: Well, gawrsh, we just wanna help keep ya motivated.

Drake: Yeah. Don't stress about it buddy. It'll come to you in no time.

Natsu: Just relax, guys! He'll get eventually.

Modeus: Though, something tells me that's not the only thing on your mind.

Sora: I was thinking about Roxas. (places hand on his heart) He's trapped here in my heart. But...he needs a body to be himself again.

Erza: That's true. A body's function is to grant appearance and form to someone. It's gonna be hard to find one.

Goofy: Aw, don't worry. Ienzo's workin' on a way to get him free. I'll betcha he's got the perfect body all line up.

Lucy: And don't forget that Shadow Gear and the Thunder Legion are helping him.

Jiminy: (hops out of the hood) You've got the Gummiphone, Sora. Why don't you try givin' him a call?

Sora: I guess so? (grabbed the phone from his pocket) Yeah, why not.

Sora dialed the number on his phone and the phone started to ring. Eventually, Mickey appeared on the screen.

Mickey: Oh! Hiya, Sora!

Donald and Goofy: (pushes Sora) You're majesty!

Lucy: Is that Mickey?

Sora: Hey! (pushes them off) Wha...? Wrong number?

Mickey: No, we are visiting Radiant Garden. Actually, we were just about to call you guys, but it looks like you beat us to the punch.

Mickey then showed Riku, the Sabertooth members, and the Crime Sorciére.

Sting: Hey Natsu!

Natsu: How's it going Sting?

Sting: Great!

Jellal: How are things on your end Erza?

Erza: Ok so far.

Riku: Sora, is something wrong?

Sora: I wanted to pick your brain. In order for us to recomplete Roxas, he needs a body, right?

Mickey: Yeah, to put his heart in.

Kat: So the question is; how exactly do we create his body that will not only accept his heart, but also ensure he's himself.

Riku: (thinks of something) Replicas...

Sora: Huh?

Laxus: What are these 'replicas'?

Riku: Well, replicas are basically human.

Lady: Like clones?

Riku: In a way.

Sora: Uh, what?

Riku: Oh, yeah... you wouldn't remember.

Wendy: What do you mean?

Riku: Sora's memory had been tampered with, so Namine put Sora to sleep in order to regain his memories. It was during that time, the previous Organization XIII developed 'replicas': realistic vessels to place hearts in. They're so real, in fact, that you'd actually mistake them for people. And with hearts, the replicas will become people. Sora and I encounter those replicas before he was put to sleep.

Gajeel: How do you make a body? That doesn't make any sense.

Trish: So, if we get our hands on a replica, Roxas will look like himself when he's recompleted?

Riku: (remembers Riku Replica) Yup. The replica takes the form of the heart inside it.

Sora: That's perfect!

Rouge: But how are we going to find one?

Mickey: I'll talk to Ienzo. He was in the Organization back then, so he might know more.

Sora: Great. Thanks. Wait... Do you guys think they're after replicas too?

Goofy: No, they definitely said "a black box."

Minerva: A black box?

Riku: Who's that?

Sora: The Organization and Maleficent.

They then realized that they have never told them about the black box.

Donald: I guess we forgot to mention it.

Mickey: Aw, it's okay. But there's something you guys should know about one of their members.

Sora's group: Huh?

They then took the time to explain about Terra and how they need to focus on getting the power of waking.

Mickey: So, let the rest of us worry about Roxas and Naminé for now. You journey on, and keep an eye out for Terra.

Donald and Goofy: (pushes Sora back) Yes, your majesty!

Sora: (pushes them back) Stop that!

Mickey: And Drake, we've gotten a feeling that the Organization are after you for some reason, so be on guard.

Drake: Right. I hope you guy's find something that can help on your end.

Riku: Well, we'll be in touch if we find something. See you later.

Mickey: By for now, and try to make sure Sora doesn't get into trouble, including yourselves.

Sora: Hey!

Drake: Alright, good luck you two, and see you soon.

Natsu: See ya, guys!

The call ends as everyone in Radiant Garden was laughing.

Mickey: They don't change, do they?

Riku: Nope, that's their best quality. Though I don't about Fairy Tail because I haven't met them that long.

Rufus: You'll find them very rambunctious.

Yukino: But that's what makes them special.

Mickey: Welp, we gave Merlin the vestments for Kairi and Axel and dropped off some wizards there as well. Let's go stop by Ansem the Wise's study.

Everyone: Right!

Meanwhile in a certain forest, Kairi landed hard on her butt.

Kairi: Ow, that hurt!

Mirajane: Keep trying, you can do it!

Kairi was in a middle of a fight with Lisanna in her Cat Soul appearance.

Cana: Yeah, go get her!

Cana was drinking a huge barrel of beer.

Kairi: (shocked) You're drinking all of that?!

Cana: Yeah, it's totally worth it.

Lisanna was about slash Kairi with her claws, but Kairi quickly moved out of the way and hit Lisanna on her back with her Keyblade, making her crash into the trees.

Kairi: Are you ok?

Lisanna: I'm a Fairy Tail member, so of course I'm alright!

Kairi: Sorry. I guess I'm not use to how you guys work.

Mirajane: That was pretty good! But you also have to remember in a battle, the fight isn't over until your opponent can't move as when you asked Lisanna if she was alright. Also, be aware of your surroundings, make sure your opponent doesn't catch you off guard.

Kairi: Yes!

Cana: I wonder how the guys are doing?

Meanwhile, Lyon was sparing with Lea using an ice sword.

Elfman: Come on, Lea! Man up already!

Lea: That doesn't help right now!

Lyon: You let your guard down!

Lyon did a downward slash, but Lea dodged the attack and fired a fire spell at Lyon, causing him to crash into a nearby tree.

Lea: Don't ever mess with me. Got it memorized?

Lyon: You're right, though I should say the same thing to you!

As the two continued sparing, Mest was observing the fight from a tree.

Mest's mind: This war... How will this affect our guild. Will we lose some of our members like the last war or not?

*Earthland*

Meanwhile, on the island of Fortuna, a single young man ran down the paved road straight toward the cathedral at the center of town. This man had white brushed down hair with blue eyes. He also wore a long, dark blue jacket, with a red inner lining; underneath the jacket was a red zip-up hoodie, and a black shirt underneath that. He also wore a pair of dark blue pants and long brown boots. Strangely, his right arm was completely bandaged up and in a sling.

The young man cursed himself for oversleeping, knowing he was going to be late for the service. Though he wasn't too excited about the service in particular, he made a promise to a certain someone that he wouldn't be late, as she had a performance to give.

At the same time, inside the cathedral, the service was being held as virtually every man and woman present wore a white hood and sat down around the stage, waiting for the opening ceremony to begin.

A spotlight shinned down on the central stage to reveal a beautiful young woman auburn hair tied back in a ponytail, and hazel-colored eyes. She wore a long white dress that stretched all the way down to her ankles with brown boots underneath.

The young woman looked around her audience just as the music began to play. She noticed an empty seat and briefly expressed disappointment before beginning to sing.

Woman: Listen to my voice calling you... Calling you out of darkness. Hear the Devil's cry of sin... Always turn your back on him.

The young man came to an abrupt stop when he noticed a group of demonic figures block his path. They looked as if their skin was made entirely out of sewn fabric and were heavily stuffed inside. Their hands and feet also appeared to be curved blades.

The young man gave an annoyed scoff before charging head-on at this newfound enemy.

Woman: With the wind you go... Still, I dream of your spirit, leading you back home. I will give my gifts to you... Grow your garden, watch it bloom.

He leapt to give a powerful kick to send the front-most demon flying into all of his friends to knock them down. He then threw out a punch to the demon on his right to send it crashing into the wall.

When another one was about to swing its blade down on him, the young man caught the blade in his unbandaged hand and threw the demon away before snapping the blade off its arm, which he then took as his own for a makeshift weapon. He didn't hesitate to make use of it as he hacked and slashed any demon that got close to him.

Woman: The light in your eye is an angel up high... Fighting to ease the shadow side. Hearts will grow though having bend... Leaving behind all the things in the end.

The young man ran across the wall before leaping up at a demon who jumped toward him, kicking him down to the ground while propelling himself straight upward, kicking down any more demons that continued to try to leap toward him.

He then fell back to the ground to slice up the demon that was in front of him before kicking up another demon to leap up after him, slicing not only that demon but the other ones that tried to jump around him, while also delivering some more fierce kicks to send them crashing into the walls. Once he landed, he only needed to slice down three more demons to finish off the group.

With the demons all finished, he resumed his run straight toward the cathedral, hoping to at least get there before the opening ceremony came to an end.

Woman: Listen to my voice calling you... Calling you out of darkness. Hear the Devil's cry of sin... Always turn your back on him... On him... On hiiiiiiimmmmm!

With that, the song of the opening ceremony came to an end, which was met with a massive applause from the audience.

As the young woman looked around, she was pleasantly surprised to see the young man with white hair sitting down. Though she could tell he was out of breath, having probably just arrived, she was nonetheless glad that he actually made it.

Once the ceremony came to an end, the rest of the cathedral slowly lit up to reveal its internal halls. Though it didn't seem that much different from a regular church with chandeliers and stained-glass windows, aside from the stage that the young woman once sang on.

What really stood out was the large statue at the back of the wall. This statue appeared to be that of a man with a human face, wearing a robe, while holding a sword downward; what stood out the most was the fact that this so-called man had curved horns on the side of his head.

An elderly man then walked onto the stage and was greeted with an applause of his own. This man was dressed mostly in a white and golden robe, along with a red pallium draped over his shoulders. He also wore a large white headpiece, indicating he was something akin to a pope.

The elderly man: Two thousand years ago... The Dark Knight Sparda, turned against his demon brethren and took up his sword for the sake of mankind. Though despite his brave efforts in our names, I fear some have forgotten the truth of his great sacrifice, and have even dismissed him as a myth, or even of a children's tale.

As the ceremony took place, the same white-haired man from before didn't seem to be paying attention as he sat cross-legged, listening to some music via his pair of headphones.

This did not go unnoticed by a certain man standing in the far corner of the chamber, a man sharp brown eyes and dark auburn brown hair with a slight goatee. He wore a long white coat with white pants, and high boots, and even had a sword sheathed on his side.

Both men made eye-contact as the white-haired man rolled his eyes at the narrow glare from the other.

The elderly man: If the events of that terrible time were to reoccur, the fusing of both the demonic and human realms, we, weak humans, would have no means by which to oppose our submission.

Meanwhile, the songstress from before had walked up to join the white-haired young man and was about to sit down next to him. He tried to look away to hide the semi-shameful expression for being late, something that caused her to roll her eyes. However, she noticed a small gift wrapped on her seat, which caused her to smile slightly as she sat down next to him.

The elderly man: And so, I ask you to unite, and pray that even if such a dark time of chaos were to revisit us, our gracious Savior would shelter us from the storm. Let us pray!

The elderly man brought his hands together for a prayer, one where everyone else followed, all but the white-haired young man who only sighed as he knew this was going to be a long ceremony.

After an hour, the service came to an end. Everyone had begun to leave, with the white-haired man and the young woman at the front until...

???: Nero.

The young man apparently named Nero turned around to see the same man from before walking toward him with a stern look.

Nero: (annoyed) Yes, Credo?

Credo: You were late.

Nero: I was held up.

Credo: This isn't the only time you've missed the opening ceremony. Honestly, I'm surprised you didn't just straight-up skip the entire service.

Nero: You know, that's actually a really good idea. Think I might try that next time.

Credo glares harder as the young woman got in-between the pair.

Woman: Come on, break it up you two. Credo, Nero said he was going to try and fix that habit of being late, but you could stand to lighten up from time-to-time.

Credo: (small sigh) I apologize Kyrie, but I am Captain of the Holy Knights and duty must be taken seriously.

Nero: Since when is being five- or six-minutes late part of my duty?

Credo was about to retort when someone else stepped in.

The elderly man: That's quite enough.

Credo: Your Holiness.

Credo bowed, along with Kyrie, while Nero just gave a small nod.

Sanctus: (smile) Tardiness is such a minor inconvenience, and I'm sure young Nero here had his reasons, so I think you can forgive him for something so trivial.

Credo: Of course.

Sanctus: Now then, there is something that I wish to share with you Credo, so if you wouldn't mind following me?

Credo: (bowed his head) As you wish.

Sanctus: (looks at Nero and Kyrie) As for you two. It's such a lovely day, so go enjoy yourselves.

Kyrie: (smile) Thank you, your holiness.

Kyrie took Nero's arm, and they began to leave while Sanctus and Credo walked off in the opposite direction. As they were about to get to the door, Kyrie looked at the gift Nero gave her.

Nero: Happy birthday, Kyrie.

Nero was trying to maintain an indifferent façade, which Kyrie easily saw through as she smiled and opened the gift.

Her present was a golden necklace, with a red crystal held high in place by two overlapping wings similar to that of a seraph. She smiled as she put it on.

Kyrie: It's beautiful, thank you Nero.

Nero: (small smile) Yeah, sure.

Kyrie playfully pulled on his arm to lead him outside.
