ooo.                    IT IS SICKENING TO BE SURROUNDED BY SUCH GREATNESS. In a world of dragons and gods greater than comprehension, there is very little space for men ─── and a fraction of that goes to women. There's two kinds of people in the world, and a very clear and defined line separates them: there are those who are great and those who are decidedly not. It's an unspoken rule that nobody can cross it. And the only way to ensure you're born on the right side? Be born into it. If you're not? Well, there's nothing you can do.

                    Lyanna is one of the many unfortunate girls to be born on the wrong side of this line ─── and that, it seems, is a crime to be repented over and over. Though she had about as much control over being born to a lowly soothsayer and a wayward, fleeting man as the King did to his royal mother and father. One of them is rewarded with riches and gifts and power beyond measure, and the other is less than dirt. Ordained from the moment they came into the world, kept to their separate parts of society until they die.

                    As a child, she'd never given much thought to royalty, but as a burden to her travelling mother she was soon left to serve at their greatest castle ─── the Red Keep, in all its blood hewn glory. Lyanna has worked there for a number of years now, and most cruelly she can now witness the greatness, the riches, the utter luxury this handful of highborns get, and as she grows older, she envies them ─── their only real accomplishment, as the name suggests, was being born. 

                    And she has managed to stay out of their sight; Lyanna has no desire to be a pawn in their games where they vie for more, more, more. ( She has also witnessed and can attest that this greatness does have its costs ). 

                    For these years, this quiet interlude still riding from the high of King Viserys I's peaceful and lengthy rein, Lyanna has kept to the shadows where she belongs. A scullery maid to begin with, scrubbing the floors in the early mornings and late nights ─── not worth enough to even be seen by the lords she serves ─── then as a regular maid. Over time, she has forged herself some semblance of power in the form of her skills with a bow, a remnant of how she had strived to make herself useful to Mother. It didn't matter. And yet it did. 

                    As a lowborn, Lyanna inherits nothing ─── except she does, only it is not a castle or a nice patch of land. She carries a curse in her blood, a predisposition to violent attacks and hallucinations, but these visions are something she realises are real. Not a prophecy, perhaps ─── those were her Mother's dealings ─── but certainly a sight of some kind. And suddenly, Lyanna is no longer just a useless girl with no name. Her legacy, however arcane, carves her up a little higher into the world. 

                   Now she is no longer invisible, now she is something, and the dark rush of ambition is welcome and entirely electric. And as she learns more, cutting off parts of herself and welding a mask to her face ─── teachings of past, present, and future ─── it soon consumes her. 

                    Greatness comes with a cost, a dear one, but Lyanna would rather pay it than go back to being nobody again.

though there are FLASHBACKS & EVENTS MENTIONED
that take place both before and after.

004 ... misc!

well hello hello hello !! welcome to my latest hyperfixation
despite never properly watching hotd or got !! this is the
brainchild of me being converted to the fandom over edits
on my fyp and then my subsequent shock at some of the
things commonplace in the fandom ── for example, the
amount of fics where the love interest is closely related to
the oc. let's not. there's already enough of that in asoiaf !!
and this also come from a modern perspective on class &
wealth and i haven't seen a non noble/highborn oc yet ...
so here i am.

the rise of lyanna ▇▇▇ is very important and dear to me
and she is the focus of the story, but because there's such
depth to the books and the show the chapters will not be 
tied to one pov, rather on a scene by scene basis. it might 
get confusing, although i do try to be clear, so lmk if it is!!

i really want to express that this is world is not a good one
and that neither side in the conflict is morally ethical. all
of them are rich, white (if you go by the books) and abuse
the power they already have constantly. yes, they have 
their troubles, but they are terrible people despite it. and
lyanna, on the receiving end of it, witnesses this directly.
she shares similar views as me, neither green nor black,
but as she is forced into the court she starts to change for
the worse. 

i started this in september but it will be november now,,
so we'll see how long this interest lasts ── and it will be
slow, both in pace and updates. season one was way too
rushed, and season two? well this is heavy au territory. i
have taken so many creative liberties like aging people
up and also changing certain events. we'll see🤷
