Chapter 45: Epilogue

Six months had passed quite smoothly apart from the few ups and downs in the beginning. Hades and her mom had come to terms with this arrangement. They didn't speak to each other, but whenever they were in the same room, they didn't exchange any harsh words either, which in Persephone's book, that's a huge win.

Persephone's legs were stretched out in front of her as she rested on the soft green meadow in Sicily. In a simple white gown that was loose and comfortable hid Persephone's growing belly. Persephone was well rested and her friends had made sure she was comfortable all these months. But finally, today, Persephone got to return to her home.

She got up onto her feet and walked down the empty field, that was vibrant and green. Under the heat of the sun, her red hair looked like flames. She put a shielding hand on her belly, which was becoming sort of a habit. And for a while, she eagerly waited for him to arrive and take her to his world, like he once had when their story began.

Under the morning sky and on the green grasslands of Sicily, a golden chariot emerged from the forest trees with lightning speed. The four great and immortal horses pulled the chariot with finesse. Orphnaeus, Aethon, Nyctaeus led by their brother Alastor speeded towards their queen. Hades held onto the reins and spotted her in the middle of the field, and even from the great distance between them, they could both see each other's smile.

Just like when Hades first came to first take her, she didn't get scared or back away from the frightening horses. She stood calmly as the four beasts slowed in front of her and lowered their heads to reach her outstretched hand.

"It's good to see you," she said.

"I missed you too," replied Hades.

Persephone grinned. "I was talking to the horses," she teased. Hades rolled his eyes and got off the chariot to help her on. He stood behind her as she held onto the reins this time.

"Let's go home," said Hades, "everyone is waiting for you."

The golden chariot was seen cutting through the Sicily fields with immense speed. Persephone held onto the reins with her husband returning to her home, her family.

Three months flashed by. On a special Autumn night, Persephone opened her eyes after thirteen hours of excruciating pain. She was exhausted, but more so excited to meet her baby. Hecate and Pain helped with the birth, and safely the Princess Macaria of the Underworld was born. Persephone got out of the bed and wrapped a shawl around her gown. She entered the lounge room and she found Hades sitting on the couch with their baby girl in his protective and strong arms. His scarlet eyes didn't leave the small face, that had rosy cheeks like her mother. But Persephone had a feeling their baby girl would have black hair and Hades red eyes. Macaria was the precious princess of this realm, and everyone was eager to meet her, but not as eager as Persephone.

"How is she?" she asked Hades.

His face that had a smile lifted. "She's perfect," he told her. Persephone joined him on the couch and looked down at their daughter's sleeping face.

"She's beautiful," sighed Persephone. Hades turned and gave bundle of joy to Persephone. She held her baby close to her chest and welled up with a deep sense of completion. "Our Macaria."

Hades gently caressed Persephone's back as she focused on their baby girl. "Everyone is waiting for us in the great hall," he said. "They want to meet their princess."

Persephone met his gaze. "Let's go," she said.

"Are you feeling up to it?" he asked with concern.

Persephone kissed Hades lips. "I've only got six months here with everyone," she said regrettably. "I don't want to waste any second of it."

Hades deepened their kiss and took a long moment to feel their love blossom once again. Persephone gave him Macaria, since she was a little too weak to carry the baby and walk together. They made their way towards the hall where everyone stood eagerly waiting for thirteen hours, without a blink of sleep.

"They're here!" A guard announced and everyone's heads turned towards the family.

"Welcome, the Princess of the Underworld," Hades held up their baby, "Macaria, the goddess of blessed death." Cheers broke out and flowers were thrown around them in celebration. Persephone clapped her hands together in excitement.

Mono and Hecate both blessed the Princess with good fortune and tremendous power, but then, it was time for everyone to see the cute princess. Aeacus and the other two judges surrounded the baby, but Macaria only stayed calm in Rhadamanthys' arms. A gift from Zeus and Demeter arrived as well, it was a golden cradle for Macaria. Persephone knew the moment every demon, witch and creature that was here would spoil Macaria with love. Even Cerberus didn't leave Macaria's side through the whole gathering that had broken into a celebration.

Persephone leaned her head on Hades as they watched everyone pass Macaria around who had woken up from the ruckus. "Hades," she called out his name.

"Hmm?" He put his arm around her, pulling her closer to his warmth.

"I love you," she said. "And I will always be thankful that you showed me this whole new world."

Hades smile charmingly. "I should be saying that to you," he said. "You've changed my whole world just by being in it."

Persephone kissed her husband's cheek. "Where did I get myself such a good man?" she jested. "Macaria is going to be very proud of her father."

Hades laughed. "She better be proud of me," he remarked. "My baby girl is the most precious to me."

Persephone shook her head. "You're going to spoil our daughter."

Hades waved at the notion. "Of course, I will," he said as he sipped some wine. "She deserves the world and so much more."

Persephone couldn't stop smiling. "Nothing beats being home," she said and then she dragged her husband in the middle of the celebration to cherish these moments of life that were blessed by the gods.

Persephone and Hades story didn't end here. It had just begun because their love was timeless, and the stories that were weaved from their conquests were told for centuries. They were the icons of no matter how different one was, love would always find a way.

Persephone and Hades are iconic for me as a love-story goes. I wrote my version of their story and even though they're some mistakes in the book, I'm still proud to say that this is my work.

Once again, thank you to all the readers for enjoying my book. *Okay, that's goodbye, I'm going to go cry in a corner somewhere now*
