Chapter 8
Seto's POV~
That boy is a riddle, just like the answers he gave me. He makes me feel funny, and his riddles don't make any sense. Of course, the riddles were based off of personal experience, so they would be different from any recorded history. The winners write the history books, after all.
I closed my computer with a sigh. The only situation that came close to what Deadlox's riddles described was the Lox incident. The entire Lox family was killed in a house fire, but the government wasn't reported as being involved. It was the only incident in the time that we've been alive that even comes close to what Deadlox described.
I heard shouting, and suddenly the front door opened and someone rushed inside the house. It was Sky, and he was bleeding heavily from a gash in his arm. He closed and bolted the door behind him.
"There's zombies everywhere, dude. I only stepped outside for a minute and I got swarmed." Sky said, breathing heavily.
"Come on, I'll take a look at your arm." I took Sky to the bathroom and thought while I bandaged him up.
The zombies had started showing up when we locked up and drugged the unconcious Deadlox in the cellar. It was too precise to be a coincidence... what could Deadlox have done to piss off every zombie in existance?
Maybe I should go out there and try to scare them all off...
I heard scuffling out in the hall, and shouts. I raced out of the bathroom, with Sky behind me. Deadlox was fighting Mitch and Jerome while backing towards the door.
"Deadlox!" I shouted, and his eyes glanced at me for a split second, but he quickly refocused on parrying Mitch's sword thrusts.
I started to summon my magic, but then Deadlox twisted his sword and disarmed Mitch, and then he opened the door and darted outside. Suddenly, we heard a shout, and we raced outside expecting to see Deadlox being mauled to death, but instead we saw a female zombie... crying and hugging him? The other zombies were grinning, but when they saw us they brought up their weapons and stepped forward slightly.
"Ty, baby... I was so worried..." I could hear the female zombie say. I exchanged a confused look with the others. Who was Ty?
"Mooom, come on, let go already! I'm fine!!" I heard Deadlox complain. Wait... mom?
"You should have called us in there, son. We could've gotten you out a lot sooner." A male zombie said gruffly. A few others groaned, as if in agreement. "But for right now, we have company."
Deadlox turned around and saw us.
"You guys can go now." He said to the zombies. All of them either wandered off or disappeared into the ground except for the two that had been speaking earlier. "Mom, dad... do you think you can get some wood planks and bring it to the redwood tree in front of the school? Also, ..." Deadlox listed some things off to them, and they both nodded before also disappearing into the ground.
Deadlox started to walk off, but I cast a binding spell on his legs and he stopped in his tracks. Time to get some answers.
Deadlox's POV~
Seto cast a spell that made my legs freeze in place. Great. Now I'm going to get interogated... again. But maybe it would be better, to not have to hide who I am around at least some people. Besides, my parents practically sold me out already... I should just tell them the truth.
"Deadlox, what, exactly, was that? Why did they call you Ty, why did they listen to you, and why did you call them mom and dad?" Seto spit out a string of questions.
"Well, for one thing, my real name is Ty Lox, and they really are my parents... albeit an undead version." I told him.
"But Ty Lox and his parents were killed in a house fire." Sky piped up.
"Don't believe everything you read. I survived because I hid and ran into the woods right before they lit the house on fire." I smirked at him.
"The government agents... why were they after you?" Seto said.
"Well, lets just say they didn't like the fact that my family can raise, control, and speak to the dead, and on top of that have some characteristics of a corpse." I said.
We went on like that for almost 20 minutes, and by the time they were satisfied they knew practically my entire life story.
"So you can't reveal your true identity because the government might come after you and you go around helping people do stuff? Dood, that sounds like Batman!" Jerome exclaimed.
"Imagine what kinds of pranks we could pull if we didn't need to breathe, biggums!" Mitch sounded equally excited. They were treating me like some sort of overrated super hero.
"Hey, does that whole eat-the-left-foot-of-a-zombie-and-get-good-luck thing work with you too since technically you're undead?" Sky asked.
"Umm, I don't think so..." I answered.
"Too bad! #Ty'sleftfoot!!!!" Sky practically screamed.
"Ok then..." Well now I know who to not sleep around or let near my feet. Ever.
"Come on, you can spend the night. It's getting dark." Seto said, finally unfreezing my legs.
I practically collapsed because I hadn't moved my legs in so long, but I recovered quickly. I followed Seto and the others inside, and as the others split up and went into different parts of the house, I plopped down on Seto's couch.
"What're you doing over there?" Seto asked.
"Well, I was gonna sleep on the couch. Where else would I sleep?" I asked him.
"C'mon, you can room with me. I don't mind." Seto said, and he grabbed my hand, dragging me down a hallway. My heart sped up and was beating in my ears. Ugh... I forced my focus towards Seto instead and the beating became soft in my ears.
He opened an old, purplish door and pulled me inside, closing it behind me. His room was practically a library, with books lining the walls and some even stacked on top of each other. There was even an enchantment table. However, the main thing that caught my attention was the fact that there was only one bed.
"Umm..." I started, but Seto was already pulling me towards the bed. He made me sit down and then he finally released my hand.
"Phew..." Seto said, visibly relaxing as he pushed back his hood. His brown hair was poofy, and I had to fight the urge to go over to him and run my hair through it.
"So... I like your room." I said awkwardly.
"Thanks. It's the only place where I get to relax." Seto explained. He pulled off his cloak, hanging it on a hook, and then collapsed on the bed next to me.
"I can sleep on the couch, y'know. It's fine." I said, but Seto just pulled me down next to him.
"Nah... I won't condemn anyone to that fate. Besides, it gets hot in here and you are like an ice pack." Seto joked.
"Wow, I'm glad that being practically undead is useful for once." I said sarcastically.
Seto laughed, and pulled me closer to him. He was really warm... it was kind of comforting, and I soon fell asleep.
