day six | insecurities
Macey stood backstage, and although she tried to remain calm, her heart wouldn't stop beating quickly in her chest.
It was the first day of tapings for the inaugural Mae Young Classic, and she had been selected as one of 32 women to compete in the tournament. Up until that night, she had been excited to finally wrestle in front of a large audience and prove herself as someone to look out for.
Then, it was time for the tapings, and as they introduced all of the women, she began to feel nervous.
She was scheduled to win her first round match, where she would be facing Taynara Conti, a fairly new Performance Center recruit.
At the moment, she was watching Bianca's first match, against Sage Beckett. This was Bianca's first televised appearance, and so far, she had come off very impressive, and the crowd seemed to be behind her.
They were nearing the end of the match. Next would be Dakota Kai vs. Kavita Devi, then it would be time for her and Taynara's match.
Bianca got the pin, and her hand was raised as the bell was rung. A few minutes later, she was backstage, and when she saw Macey, she frowned.
"Mace, are you okay?" When her friend didn't respond, and looked to be on the verge of tears, Bianca said, "I'll be right back."
Macey just looked back at the screen, watching as Dakota made her entrance. A few seconds later, she heard, "Macey?"
She looked over to see Tom, and while she thought she'd feel relief, she didn't. Now she was thinking about how she didn't want to cry in front of her boyfriend.
He said something to Bianca, who nodded and walked away.
"What's wrong?" He asked, looking back at Macey.
She shook her head. "It's stupid."
"It's not stupid if it's making you feel like this," He told her. "Is everything okay?"
She took a deep breath, and just when he thought she wasn't going to say anything, she asked, "What if I fuck everything up?"
Not much surprised him, but hearing her say "fuck" did the trick. She had always prided herself on being a good Christian girl (much like some good Christian boys Tom knew), and she never swore, at least not in front of him.
"What?"
"What if I go out to that ring, and I fuck up the entire match?" She asked, then looked down, not wanting to look at his face.
"Hey." She looked back up. "You're not going to fuck anything up. You've been training for over a year, and you've been doing it at the Performance Center. You've worked with Hall of Famers and legends, and just the greatest people in the business. I wish I could've been as lucky as you are.
"They wouldn't have picked you to be in this tournament if they thought you were going to mess everything up," He told her. "You have been training for this since the day you first showed up to the Performance Center, whether you knew it or not. You are going to go out there, you are going to look great, and you are going to do amazing."
"Thank you," She said, softly, just barely louder than a whisper.
"And if you do fuck it up," He added, "who cares? You're not the first, and you're not going to be the last."
She nodded. "Yeah. Yeah, you're right."
"And one more thing," He said. "I love you, and I'll still love you, even if you go out there and ruin the entire tournament for everyone."
She laughed, and he smiled. "That was a great pep talk, thank you. I mean, you know, until the last part."
"I thought that was the best part."
Before she could respond, she heard, "Macey?" She looked over and saw one of the backstage workers. "You're needed in Gorilla."
She nodded, then took a deep breath.
Tom kissed her on the cheek, and said, "Good luck."

This was the only prompt where I knew exactly what I wanted to write about when I saw it. Everything else took some thinking.
