Caged Claws

The air of the cafeteria seemed to chill instantly as an overwhelming pressure-filled it. And the origin of this chill could be clearly pinpointed in one corner of the gym as a certain tattooed student was tightly gripping the shoulder of one of the transfer students. This (H/c) student was less concerned with the grip trying to rip into his shoulder and more about how his mood had drastically soured. What little time you had to spend with the sisters was being ruined by this weirdo from architecture. Your fingers that rested on the table flexed with growing anger in them as you pushed yourself up with a huffing sigh escaping your nose. Your sharp (E/c) glaring over your shoulder at the male.

The tattooed male was moreso in a state of shock himself. His eyebrows knit in confusion as he watched you not only resist his grip but stand up as if it had no effect. So not only were you a heartbreaker... but you were tough too. A handsome guy that has two girls yet doesn't care for their feelings... despicable. His fingers tightened on your shoulder as his already present frown drooped lower as well as a strange tear ran down his cheek. But now the two freshmen stood face to face, a deathly stillness growing in the chilly air as the situation seemed to be silently breaking down between the two.

???: What's going on?

???: Two freshmen from Architecture are fighting.

???: Eh? Really? I thought they were all part of that weird gang.

???: I think it's the transfer student.

Your hand raised and softly took a hold of the hand gripping into your shoulder before your fingers flexed once more and gripped tightly into the tattooed male's wrist.

(Y/n): What's your problem?

Tattooed Male: You're the problem. I told you to pick one so you didn't break their hearts.

The rest of the architecture class was on edge as it seemed that their leader was going to get into a scuffle with the transfer student. Though the big-eared student Jace knew this would do no one good. If they fought and his friend came out on top, then he would look like a bully who beat up a transfer student. and if the transfer student won it would make the whole group look bad. Jace took a step forward in a vain attempt to split the two heated fighters but was surprised to see his job swept out from under him by the two girls being unknowingly argued about.

A smaller hand softly landed on yours, the feeling almost relaxing you as your grip on the other male's arm relinquished. Hei-Ryung then took a bold move and awkwardly moved in between the two of you, pressing her back against your chest as she spoke.

Hei-Ryung: Woah Woah Woah come on now, it's lunchtime! You can't be mad during lunchtime!

It was a dumb excuse but the sudden tone shift seemed to start bringing the tension down. Ryung's next move was to carefully try to pry the other male's hand away from your shoulder as Ran moved up next to you. Her piercing brown eyes met your (E/c) ones for a moment before she forced you into an awkward bow as Ryung stepped out to rest at your other side while Ran spoke.

Hei-Ran: Sorry if our friend here caused you any problems! He's usually with us so we can manage him.

The tattooed student standing across from you went from angry, to shock, to just plain baffled at the display before him. His eyes watched with interest at the quiet little argument you shared with the blonde-haired girl while the other brown-haired girl simply glanced at her food in between looking somewhat concerned.

Tattoed Male: So you three are... friends?

Hei-Ran: Yep! We're the best of friends.

Hei-Ryung: We're a perfect trio, even if this guy technically counts as a puppy~

(Y/n): Don't call me a dog, shorty.

Hei-Ryung: Oi!

As you and the shorter sister tore into it, Ran took the chance to step away and toward the other male to speak a bit more privately.

Hei-Ran: So what happened with you two that got worked up into this?

Much like Ran and Ryung had, someone else stepped in to help his friend out of an awkward situation.

Jace: I-It was just a big misunderstanding! Really now that we've had this little chat I'm sure things will be fine!

Hei-Ran: Well this fight nearly had fists involved.

Jace: Ah... But still, since we cleared the air things should be much smoother in Architecture right, Vasco?

The tattooed student who now had his name revealed as Vasco glanced over at the two arguing students and then back at Ran. His eyes seemed to be calculating though considerably softer than they were when the two men were on the verge of fighting. Vasco's eyes then trailed to Jace and then the rest of the students from Architecture.

Vasco: So you three are good friends? This friendship makes you happy?

Hei-Ran: Heh... Yeah~ I think so. I don't know what is going through their minds but I don't think I could leave these two dummies on their own anyway. But... I have a favor.

Jace: A... favor?

Hei-Ran: (Y/n) doesn't really care much for other people. He spends so much time with us that he doesn't know what he wants to do with his life. Since Hei-Ryung and I can't stay with him... do you think you can look out for him-

Vasco: Of course.

Jace: H-Hey just like that?! you were ready to tear each other apart just a second ago.

Vasco: (Y/n) isn't a bad person. He just needs friends like these two.

Jace: If you think so. We'll do our best to look out for your friend and make sure he doesn't get into more fights.

Hei-Ran: Thank you very much.

Vasco and Jace turned to depart with a much more relieved Ran letting out a sigh. Vasco waved at her over his shoulder, a strange tear dripping from his eye as they moved off to rejoin their friends.

Hei-Ryung: Hey Ran Ran the food is getting cold!

(Y/n): Yeah and what did you tell those weird guys?

Hei-Ran: Don't worry about it. Let's just finish lunch before the bell.

(Y/n): Hey I want to know what you said-

Hei-Ryung: Don't question your master's puppy~

(Y/n): I said don't call me that shorty!

As the two tore into it once more, Ran could only laugh at the growing absurdity of this place, fully unaware of the much larger story she had just dragged their small group into. Because as he was walking back to his table, Vasco would soon meet face to face with the handsome transfer student Daniel Park...

A few days later the trio would be reminded that they not only held duties inside of their new school but in the world of petty gangs. The Spare Hearts were still taking their first steps when its first challenger approached. In Central Seoul on a random backstreet, the Spare Hearts retained their control but now found an invader at the steps. A young man in his early twenties stood with a disgusted look on his face, a cigarette clinging to his lower lips as he stood in lazy looking track outfit. He appeared to be some sort of gangster or criminal, though the lackey hiding behind him was not nearly as scary. In fact, he seemed familiar...

Familiar Nerd: I-I said I would return! We're gonna destroy these stupid spare hearts!

Gangster: You said I would be paid, punk.

Familiar Nerd: O-O-Of course! We just gotta beat them up and take their money! T-they uh... took mine!

Gangster: So you want me to beat up these little shits on the off chance they still have your money?!

???: Revolts.

As it looked set for the criminal to punch the nerd, the two stopped in time to see a slender woman walk out from a corner tailed by a girl munching on a cup of noodles.

Gangster: Huh? The fuck are you saying?

Hei-Ran: I said it looks like we have ourselves a revolt against our little system. I thought I was being particularly nice when I let you run off with your tail between your legs.

Familiar Nerd: Y-You just beat us up! You're nothing but two-bit thugs trying to play at being a gang!

Hei-Ran: Hmm... I see... You, criminal guy.

Gangster: The fuck you want?

Hei-Ran: Do you know what to do to put down a rebellion?

The gangster looked around before glancing at the nerd and getting even more agitated as he slipped his hands into his pockets and took a few steps forward before standing in front of a darkened shop. Hei-Ran took the initiative as the male approached though, pulling a shining coin from her pocket before flipping it on the ground before him.

Gangster: Begging for your lives with cash, huh? Well, you better have a lot more than this.

The criminal bent over at the waist to reach for the shiny coin before Ran spoke once more.

Hei-Ran: Quick and brutally.

Gangster: Hah?

The criminal soon felt a chill rush down his spine as it felt like a pair of predatory eyes resting on him. He took a short breath before glancing in the direction of the darkened shop to find the door now open and a converse rapidly approaching his vision.

The gangster couldn't react in time as the converse lightly kissed the tip of his cigarette before crushing the stick against his teeth and then the force of the strike hit him right in the teeth. The sudden strike left the man reeling as his hand flew up to his face in a vain attempt to hinder the pain though this left the man open to attack. Another straight kick hit him in the ribs sending him tumbling against a concrete wall before a flurry of vicious kicks peppered him across the face and chest. As the gangster's bruised lips and busted mouth tried to blurb out apologies and promises of never returning, the unleashed beast couldn't care in the slightest. With one last kick, a hand descended to grip the man's oily hair to bring him forward just enough so the beast could cock back his knee and ram it into the man's nose, fully breaking it as his head collided with the concrete wall and he was out.

Hei-Ran: Revolt suppressed. Now back to our little friend...

The girl trailed off as she could see the male already on the ground practically pissing himself as your hulking form approached him and gripped him by the ankle, dragging him toward the girls despite his screaming protests.

Familiar Nerd: F-Fuck you! Y-You bitches ruined all of our lives! I'm here to get back to my friends!

Hei-Ran: Hmm... that's so weird... I wonder why they sold you out then.

Familiar Nerd: H-Huh?

Ran whistled and awaited for a trail of punks to walk out with solemn looks on their faces.

Familiar Nerd: Y-You... you bastards... You sold me out?! When I was on my way to save you?!

Grunt #1: Y-You didn't wanna save us! you just came to take us back!

Grunt #2: You're just a prick who bullied us!

Grunt #3: Yeah it hurt at first but the Ryu sisters are super nice to us! they even treat us to lunch and stuff!

Familiar Nerd: You really let these bitches win you over with f-

The nerd shut up as his throat was gripped tightly, choking out a grunt as he looked in fear at you now crunching next to him with a deadly glare on your face.

(Y/n): You should really watch your language around ladies.

Hei-Ryung: (Y/n)... his words really hurt my feelings~

(Y/n): Oh really? Can't have that.

Your grip on his throat transferred to hold his hair in place while you rolled back a punch.

Hei-Ran: Just one. We don't get anything for beating him half to death like his friend there.

You couldn't help but sigh but nodded. This must have been the best bowling strike you ever landed, throwing your fist forward to collide with the nerd's nose as he went sitting back a good two steps away from your trio.

Hei-Ryung: Much better~ Now can they get out of here? Their smell is making my noodles taste bad...

Hei-Ran: Last chance asshole. Use those ears of yours this time and take your punk friend and don't return.

The nerd managed to scramble up and drag the unconscious gangster looking guy away. though this time he didn't shout anything about returning so that was a good thing! Or maybe he simply couldn't speak from the pain. This was the first in a hopefully long string of victories for the growing Spare Hearts. Though as school life began to invade, the trio found it hard to balance the growing seriousness of moments like these... with things like the school festival that arrived just a few days later...
