CHAPTER ONE
The Isle of the Lost had many provinces, different villains owned different sectors and their children would help them expand. The most secure area was known as 'The Tower' and Mother Gothel owned it. Her home was of course a tall building in the centre, with vines and ropes climbing the walls, her daughter, Gabrielle could often be seen at her bedroom window, sometimes throwing rocks at passers-by.
Today Gabrielle was climbing down the wall by her bedroom window, sliding off rickety platforms and holding on to an unstable rope.
"Gabrielle Gothel!" her mother screams after her "Get back here now you brat!" She'd been screaming at her all morning, claiming that Gabrielle needed to stop dressing like a 'commoner', and her boots needed to be much higher to 'assert dominance'. Gabrielle had rolled her eyes and walked away, her mother was crazy.
Once, when she was ten, Gothel had lost it, screaming and shouting when Gabrielle bit back for once.
"You're just like she was! Disobedient! Stupid!" With that, she'd grabbed a pair of scissors and chopped off the locks of her daughter's hair and watched as she sobbed for days, there was no sympathy.
Finally, Evie took pity on Gabrielle and fixed her hair, evening the cut and giving her a dark red dye.
Years before that, Gothel had taunted Gabrielle, teased her when a wave of thunderstorms hit the Isle and she had curled in the corner, hands over her ears.
"Oh, you're scared of the rain? Hm, Rainy?" And from then she was no longer 'Gabie' but 'Rainy', and in her teen years 'Rain'.
Gabrielle always thought it was fitting that her mother taught Selfishness 101.
Ignoring her mother's screams, Rain places her gloved hands on a rope, dropping her weight so she slides elegantly down the tower.
"Ohh, look at you go!" A voice down below calls and Rain rolls her eyes, turning to the person when she hits the ground.
"Harry," she nods "Uma still sending you to spy on me?" He looks sheepish and she laughs, patting his arm "I'm sure you'll get out of the doghouse soon,"
She struts away, turning left at the end of the street, where she catches Mal picking up her spray cans "Oi Mal!" the other girl turns "Got any red there?"
"For you?" she teases "Always," Rain catches the can thrown her way and starts on the wall opposite Mal, a curly silhouette appearing, Jay runs past with gold in his pockets.
"Harry stopped by my street today," Rain mutters.
"Again?" Mal sounds pissed "If he does it again I'll go show him and Uma who's in charge around here,"
"Thanks," Rain manages a small smile, her friends were, well...children of villains. But they liked her, they valued her and her friendship.
"I'm being serious Rain," Mal turns to look at her "You broke up with Uma months ago, it's obsessive at this point,"
Rain just hums in response, and watches as Mal finishes her mother's silhouette and spells out 'long live evil', a smirk overtakes her face.
Mal -
They say I'm trouble.
They say I'm bad.
They say I'm evil.
And that makes me glad.
Rain -
They think I'm angry.
They think I'm sad.
Rain walks past a group of girls, bumps into them, and reaches into their pockets, as she rushes off, the girls glare and a group of boys in the corner laugh.
Rain -
When you get to know me
I'm not so bad.
Rain puts on a ring, and blows a kiss at the girls, they realise it's one of theirs, and start chasing after her.
Jay -
A dirty no good
Down to the bone
Your worst nightmare
Can't take me home.
Evie -
So, I got some mischief
In my blood
Can you blame me?
I never got no love.
Carlos -
They think I'm callous.
A lowlife hood.
I feel so useless.
All -
Misunderstood
Rain walks forward through an alley as Mal and Evie join her on either side.
Rain, Mal, and Evie -
Mirror, mirror on the wall
Who's the baddest of them all?
Welcome to my wicked world.
Wicked world
The girls meet up with Jay and Carlos as they barge open a fence and storm through a building, causing chaos and banging on drums.
All-
I'm rotten to the core.
Rotten to the core
I'm rotten to the core.
Who could ask for more?
I'm nothing like a kid next
Like the kid next door
I'm rotten to the...
I'm rotten to the...
I'm rotten to the core.
Mal -
Call me a schemer.
Call me a freak.
How can you say that?
I'm just unique.
Mal chucks Rain her spray can and the redhead paints a red 'R' on a curtain, pulling it to reveal two teens kissing, she raises an eyebrow and jumps down next to Evie.
Rain -
I'll give you a wink.
But I'm gone in a blink.
You don't like it?
Rain and Evie -
Well maybe you should rethink!
Rain jumps over some tables, stealing anything she can get her hands on. When her feet finally touch the floor, several angry civilians are chasing her, she laughs, running as fast as she can before grabbing onto some rope and swinging onto a roof.
Jay -
What, me a traitor?
Ain't got your back.
Are we not friends?
What's up with that?
Evie -
So, I'm a misfit
So, I'm a flirt
Evie and Rain storm through layers of scarves until they reach an older teen, Evie twirls a scarf around him whilst Rain searches his pockets.
Evie -
I broke your heart.
I made you hurt.
As they walk away Rain flashes the teen his wallet, giving him a flirty smirk before throwing the wallet to Evie.
Carlos -
The past is past
Forgive, forget
The truth is
All -
You ain't seen nothing yet
Rain, Mal, and Evie watch from the balcony as Jay and Carlos run around below
Rain, Mal, and Evie -
Mirror, mirror on the wall
Who's the baddest of them all?
Welcome to my wicked world
Wicked world
The VKs run out onto the street and are joined by other civilians of the Isle.
All-
I'm rotten to the core
Rotten to the core
I'm rotten to the core
Who could ask for more?
I'm nothing like a kid next
Like the kid next door
I'm rotten to the...
I'm rotten to the...
I'm rotten to the core.
Heavy breathing echoes and Rain watches Mal takes a lollipop from a baby. The other VKs and villagers laugh whilst Rain rolls her eyes at the antics. Truly, all she was doing was raising another kid like them.
However, quite suddenly, Maleficent's knuckleheads appear, Mal doesn't seem to notice but everyone else does and flees.
This causes her to turn around - lollipop still in hand.
"Hi Mom"
"Stealing candy, Mal? I'm so disappointed."
"It was from a baby," Mal chimes in, eager to please her witch (well fairy) of a mother.
"That's my nasty little girl," Mal gives Maleficent the lollipop, and then Maleficent continues to spit on the lollipop and then rub it in her armpit "Give it back to the dreadful creature."
"Mom...." Rain tries her best not to laugh at the baby voice Mal puts on.
"It's the deeds, Mal, that make the difference between mean and truly evil. When I was your age, I was..."
"Cursing entire kingdoms?" Rain questions looking over Mal's shoulder to meet Mal's mother's eyes. She'd heard the speech hundreds of times and was sure she had it memorised. She wondered how Mal felt.
"Gabrielle dear, how are you?" Maleficent fakes interest, a sarcastic smile overtaking her face.
"Just wicked Miss M," Rain smirks, squinting her eyes at the older woman.
"Good, Good..." she trails off as if in thought before pointing to Mal and starting to walk away "You. Walk with me. See, I'm just, just trying to teach you the thing that really counts... how to be me."
"I know that. And I'll do better."
"Oh! There's news!" She turns her attention to the rest of the group and Mal stands in front. Rain goes forward to join her.
" I buried the lede. You five have been chosen to go to a different school... In Auradon."
Evie, Jay, and Carlos turn to run but are stopped by the knuckleheads.
"Oi!" Rain snaps her fingers "Remember whose territory you're in!" they drop her friends.
"What?!" Mal exclaimed.
"I'm not going to some boarding school filled to the brim with prissy pink princesses!" Rain protests once the others are safe.
"Exactly!" Mal agrees.
Evie steps between Rain and Mal "And perfect princes," Rain raises an eyebrow and Mal looks disgusted "Ugh."
"Yeah, and I don't do uniforms. Unless It's leather. You feel me?" Jay finally cuts in; he goes to high-five Carlos but he's lost in his own world, so Rain moves back and hits his palm with hers.
Carlos steps forward "I read somewhere that they allow dogs in Auradon. Mom said they're rabid pack animals who eat boys who don't behave," Rain and Jay look at each other with knowing smirks.
"Woof!" They both shout in each of Carlos' ears, he reacts by punching Jay and glaring at Rain.
"Yeah, Mom, we're not going," Mal defends. But Maleficent walks off, forcing everyone to follow, Rain falling behind slightly as they start the walk to Mal's place.
In the 'hideout', Maleficent leans back on her chair.
"You will go. You will find Fairy Godmother and you will bring back the magic wand. Easy peasy."
"What's in it for us? " Mal asks
Maleficent thinks for a moment "Matching thrones. Hers-and-hers crowns." Rain holds in an eye roll; she hated the woman.
"She meant us," Rain moves her hand to indicate the core five.
Maleficent drops her nail file and advances towards Mal who steps forward." It's all about you and me, baby."
"Do you enjoy watching innocent people suffer?"
"Well, yeah I mean, who doesn't, " Mal laughs.
"Do you enjoy using other people, other things to get what you desire?" Mother Gothel asks from the chair she's draped across.
"Obviously," Rain responds automatically, her tone bored.
"Well, then get me the wand and you and I can see all that and so much more. And with that wand and my scepter, I will be able to bond both good and evil to my will!"
"Our will," Evil Queen and Mother Gothel chime in, causing the teenagers to look toward them.
"Our will, our will," she dismisses but snaps her fingers, so Mal looks at her. Mother Gothel beckons Rain forward and pulls out a stool in front of her for her to sit on. Rain makes her way over there just as Maleficent finishes her sentence "And if you refuse, you're grounded for the rest of your lives, missy."
"What...Mom..." Maleficent pretends to squish Mal's lips to make her stop complaining and they stare at each other, causing both of their sets of eyes to glow green.
" Fine. Whatever."
"I win."
Rain sits down on a short wooden stool next to her mother, who tuts seeing her paint-splattered jeans
"Oh, Rainy," Gothel sighs, grabbing a cloth and rubbing at Rain's knees
"Mum," she groans
"You need to look presentable Gabrielle!"
"Evie, my little evil-lette in training. You just find yourself a prince with a big castle and a mother-in-law wing." The Evil queen beckons her child forward to sit as both of them complete the sentence as if performing a rather happy satanic ritual.
"And lots and lots of mirrors!"
Evie starts to giggle.
"No laughing. Wrinkles."
"Oh, well, they're not taking my Carlos, because I'd miss him too much. " Cruella pipes in from the corner.
"Really, Mom? " Carlos looks hopeful at some form of love shown by his mother.
"Yes. Who would touch up my roots, fluff my fur, and scrape the bunions off my feet?"
"Yeah, maybe a new school wouldn't be the worst thing."
"Oh, Carlos, they have dogs in Auradon. " His mother sings
"Oh, no! I'm not going! "
"Well, Jay isn't going either. I need him to stock the shelves in my store. What did you score? Oh. Ooh. A lamp."
"Dad. I already tried. " Jay sighs whilst Jaffar makes a noise of complaint and chucks it back to Jay.
"Evie's not going anywhere until we get rid of this unibrow, hmm?" Evie looks shocked and rubs her forehead, but nothing's there.
"What is wrong with you all?" Maleficent marches forward
" People used to cower at the mention of our names! For 20 years, I have searched for a way off this island. For 20 years, they have robbed us of our revenge... revenge on Snow White and her horrible little men."
"Revenge on Aladdin and his bloated genie! "
"I will!"
"Pop!" Jay stops his father's rampage.
"Revenge on every sneaky Dalmatian that escaped your clutches."
"Oh, but they didn't get baby. They didn't get the... They didn't get the baby!"
"And you!" she points to Mother Gothel, "Can get revenge on that petty thief and the awful little child who pushed you out a tower! The cause of your grey hairs!" Mother Gothel scrunches up her hair in protest.
"Rain, check me," she pulls out a mirror and inspects her curls, Rain stands gently pulling through the curls.
"You're all good mum," she slams her body back on the stool.
"And I, Maleficent...The evilest of them all,"
"Uh!" Gothel raises a finger "Don't make claims you can't back up missy!"
Maleficent glares, but continues " I will finally have my revenge on sleeping beauty and her relentless little prince." she flutters around the room "Our day has come. E.Q., give her the magic mirror."
"This is your magic mirror?" Evie doesn't seem impressed as she examines herself.
"Yeah, well, it ain't what it used to be, but then again, neither are we! It will help you find things."
"Like a prince?"
"Like my waistline!"
"Like the magic wand! Hello!"
"Hello,"
"My spell book. My book. I need my... that book. Oh, ah! The safe. The safe. Queen, help me! I never can figure this thing out," Maleficent struggles with the 'safe', which is really just a rusty old fridge.
"Voila," The Evil Queen opens it with ease.
"My spell... come, darling. Come. Oh... ooh! Oh, Oh. There she is. It doesn't work here, but it will in Auradon." she turns to Evie's mum "Remember? When we were spreading evil and ruining lives."
"Like it was yesterday." The Evil Queen remarks fondly
"And now you will be making your own memories...by doing exactly as I tell you,"
"Speaking of spell books!" Mother Gothel stands suddenly, making Rain look around in alarm, she reaches into a leather satchel "Here's mine," she throws it into Rain's chest.
"What?!" Rain runs her fingertips over the spine of the book, "Does this mean I get to go?!" she stands up in shock.
"Only because I need that wand's powers as well and I want that book back as soon as we get it,"
A car horn outside honks and everyone scrambles to attention.
"Whoo! Let's get this party started!" Jay says, chuckling Rain her backpack, and the girl smirks, putting her mother's spell book away.
"Who is the fairest of them all?" E.Q asks.
"Me." Evie gushes
"Ah!" Her mother stops her.
"You." she corrects herself.
"Yes! Let's go."
"Now, recite our mantra."
"There's no team in "I"."
"Oh, run along, Oh, run along. You're making me tear up. "
"Now, stay safe, keep the book safe, don't leave the school, and don't talk to any kings or queens" Mother Gothel smooths out Rain's jacket "Because..."
"Mother knows best." Rain finishes, kissing Gothel's cheek and walking up to Mal on the balcony. They stare out at Auradon "You know, the view's better up there," she uses her head to indicate her residence, it casts a massive shadow over the street below.
"Mal! Rain!" Maleficent shouts and the two rush down the stairs.
Jay walks around the limo, taking something off the front as Carlos comes running out, his mother shouting after him. Evie jumps in after him in a protective manner.
Next comes Rain and Mal. They pass their bags over. When Rain reaches the door, she looks up at the balcony and waves to where her and Mal's mothers are. They both do the 'I'm watching you' movement.
" Let's go," Rain pulls Mal into the limo and it starts moving. As it pulls away, the teenagers can hear their parents' shouts.
"Bring home the gold! "
"Bring home a puppy! "
"Bring home a prince! "
"Bring home an anti-aging serum! Preferably in the form of a flower!"
Carlos and Jay head straight for the food and Evie grabs a makeup brush to use on Mal.
"You're looking a little washed out. Let me help you out."
"Ew, stop. I'm plotting."
"Well, It's not very attractive." Even though she had a comeback, Evie looked a little distraught, she looks to Rain who knows immediately what she's asking.
"Fine..." Rain sighs and Evie bites into the blue candy before getting the blush back out.
"Oh! These! It's salty like nuts, but it's sweet like I don't know what,"
"Let me see. Ew!" Jay hits Carlos when he shows him his whole mouth.
Mal presses a button and Evie screams, turning to look out the front where the Isle suddenly stops and water begins "Look!"
"It's a trap!'' Everyone huddles together, Jay holding everyone. Evie grabs Rain, who grabs Mal. There's some screaming, but they don't fall to their deaths.
"What just happened?" Carlos asks.
Rain takes a panicked breathe, looking out the windows where a golden bridge is moving with the car "Magic..." she mutters in awe
"Hey. Did this little button just open up the magic barrier?" Mal questions the driver curiously.
"No, this one opens the magic barrier. That one opens my garage. And this button..." he trails off as the black separator goes up again.
"Okay. Nasty. I like that guy." Mal comments and Evie takes a deep breath, suddenly acquiring a lip gloss, and turning to Rain.
"Pucker up,".
