THIRTY-EIGHT

Amy had planned everything out to perfection. I don't even know why she called me to discuss things with her yesterday. There wasn't a single thing that I could have done better. Party planning had never been my forte.

I felt bad that she had to do so much work because of me but she made it clear an abundance of times that she enjoyed it. I would've questioned her if I couldn't see her excitement bubbling out of her when she explained everything about the ceremony to me.

As promised, Amy shows up at the house a couple of hours before the ceremony to help me get ready. She's dressed in a floor length, one shoulder, forest green dress with her hair tied up in a bun and red lipstick.

"Damn, girl. You look hot," I exclaim as I welcome her inside.

"I know, right?" She spins slowly to show off her glamorous outfit.

"Come on, time to make you hot too," she orders, dragging me upstairs.

We head to Liam's room, which is now my room too, apparently. It still feels weird calling it our room but it's a good weird.

Luckily, Liam got all my stuff sorted out before I returned home yesterday so I don't have to worry about being embarrassed of all the mess we created yesterday.

Liam is sitting in one of the chairs, doing something on his laptop, when Amy and I barge into the room. He's wearing sweatpants and a T-shirt and his hair is still wet from a shower.

"Scram, Liam. We need the room," Amy orders. Liam looks up at me in confusion and I just shrug.

"We can go to my room if you want," I say, nervously.

"This is your room, April," he rolls his eyes and gets up. A grin finds its way onto my face as Liam pecks my cheek and leaves.

Amy immediately gets to work. It takes her almost an hour to do my hair which she styles into a gorgeous bun with a few strands around my face.

I'm pretty good at doing my makeup but Amy is better. She spends the rest of the time doing my makeup and the end result has me swooning. She went hard on the eyeshades and then complimented it with a light, pink lipstick.

My hair and makeup is complete but I'm still in jeans and a zipped up hoodie when Liam returns.

"Seriously? You guys are still not done," he sounds both shocked and irritated but his eyes immediately soften when they land on me.

"All of this takes time," Amy states while gesturing towards my face and I find myself blushing under Liam's intense gaze.

"I'm almost ready, I swear," I squeak.

Liam shakes his head and makes his way to the closet, shutting the door behind him.

Meanwhile, Amy helps me into my dress. She steps back and checks everything one last time before finally approving the way I look.

It's in that moment that the weight of what I'm about to do finally hits me. After tonight, I will be a part of this pack. And not just any part, a Luna. People will have expectations of me and I will have to be a leader.

I thought I'd be able to do it but what if I'm not ready? Things are going great with Liam but what if something bad happens? Will being a Luna mean that I have to be stuck here forever? Will I even be able to leave when I am bound to so many people as a part of their pack?

"Hey, April," Amy yells, breaking me out of my thoughts.

"Are you okay?" I can see from her expression that she's worried and I begin to panic even more.

"What if things don't work out, Amy? I can't believe I was stupid enough to agree to this. What if I'm not good at being a Luna? Liam will hate me too once he realises his pack doesn't like me. I'm sure he can find someone better suited for the job. I barely know anything about your world. How can I be expected to lead so many people when I don't even know them?"

"April, calm down," she says in a soothing voice and makes me sit on the bed.

"You're just overthinking, okay? Just take deep breaths," she suggests and I comply.

She stays quiet for a few seconds and helps me steady my breathing.

"Liam can't hate you, April," she speaks in a soft voice. "You are it for him. The mate bond isn't a joke. Tell me, do you think you can be with anyone other than him?"

I think about that for a moment. My feelings for Liam have definitely gotten stronger and I can say with surety that I have never felt like this for anyone ever before. I can't even think about being with anyone other than him. Just the thought of not being with him makes my heart hurt.

Wait, am I falling in love with him? No, April. That's a rabbit hole for another day.

I shake my head no.

"Trust me, he feels the same way," Amy assures me. "And as far as the pack is concerned, everyone adores you, okay? They've seen the way you take care of people when you're working at the hospital. But most importantly, thanks to you, their Alpha is a little less of an ass," she adds with a chuckle and I can't help but laugh with her.

"Just a little less?" I ask, amused.

"Baby steps, babe. He's no longer lashing out at people for stupid reasons so I think that's great progress," she informs.

"Plus, I don't think I have ever seen him this happy before. And I really hope you're happy too, April, because we all love you here," she adds with a sad smile.

"I'm happy," I assure her with a grin.

"Great. So stop panicking. I'll see you at the ceremony, okay?" She says as she gets up to leave.

"Thanks, Amy," I give her a warm smile. If it weren't for her, I probably would have had a full-blown panic attack.

"Don't worry about it," she waves it off with a hand and leaves.

I put on a pair of black heels and make my way downstairs to the kitchen to grab a glass of water and chill out as I wait for Liam to get ready. I am exceptionally proud of myself for getting ready on time for the first time ever in my life, although I may have Amy to thank for that too.

Even though she made me feel a lot better about everything, I'm still pretty nervous about being in the spotlight. Liam's loud voice almost makes me spill the water I'm drinking as he startles me by shouting my name.

"April!" He yells out a couple of times until he finally appears in the doorway.

He's dressed in a black suit and he looks hot. The few doubts that I have about tonight instantly melt away as my eyes land on him.

He looks worried, however, for some reason. I stare in confusion as he rushes over to me and wraps me in his arms.

"You scared the shit out of me, April," he groans against my hair.

"What did I do," I mumble softly, my face against his chest. His strong scent is taking over all of my senses and I finally feel calm.

He slowly pulls away and I almost groan at the lack of his touch. I was enjoying being in his hold a bit too much. He grabs me by my shoulders as his eyes search mine.

"Amy told me you were panicking. I thought you ran out on me," he trails off.

"Sorry," I mutter, nervously. "I just got cold feet for a second but I'm good now."

"You don't have to do this if you don't want to, April," his eyes search mine with concern.

"No, I want to," I assure him with a smile.

He pulls me towards him by the waist and kisses my cheek.

"No," I squeal. "You'll ruin my makeup," I complain, earning a chuckle from him.

His eyes travel down my body, taking in every inch, before he slowly dips his head into the crook of my neck.

"It's not the only thing I plan on ruining tonight," he whispers, huskily, in my ear, sending a tingle all the way to my core.

I stand still, unable to move as his words settle in.

"Alright, let's do this," he abruptly pulls away and begins to leave, dragging me along with him.

"Did I mention you look absolutely stunning," he remarks as we make our way out, causing a blush to erupt on my cheeks.

We arrive at the pack house front yard a few minutes later. The event is a lot smaller as compared to Liam's and I am thankful for that. Only the pack members are meant to attend as Liam introduces me to them officially, as their Luna and I become a part of the pack. A narrow, purple carpet leads towards the stage and without wasting any time, Liam leads me on it.

Stepping onto the small stage, Liam and I face the crowd, and the gentle murmur of conversation around the yard dies down as everyone awaits his announcement. The faces of the people in the crowd show joy and respect and it warms my heart at how welcoming they have been and how excited they are for themselves and also for their Alpha.

I spot a few familiar faces among the unknown crowd of people including Amy, Jason, Tyler, Lucas, and Robert. Even Olivia and Dave are here tonight. Things must have been quiet at the hospital and I'm glad those two got a chance to have a night out considering how busy they are.

"Good evening, Wolf Moon," Liam's voice echoes through the silence. "It is my greatest pleasure to introduce to you, my beautiful mate, April Jennings." He gestures towards me and gives me a huge grin. I return a nervous smile as the crowd cheers.

Without wasting any time, Liam turns to me and begins the oath.

"Do you, April Jennings, swear to be faithful and loyal to the Wolf Moon Pack? To dedicate your efforts for the well-being of its people, and protect them from harm while upholding and defending the sacred werewolf law, to the best of your abilities?"

"I swear to do so," I speak with as much confidence as I can muster.

Luckily, I don't have to say much a speech so we proceed to the next part where I join the pack. Liam brings out a knife and hands it over to me. Hesitantly, I take it from him and prepare myself as I bring it over to my right palm. I look over at Liam who can probably sense my nervousness and gives me a comforting smile as he nods.

Bracing myself, I slice the knife through my palm, wincing as the blood begins to pour. Liam quickly takes the knife from me and does the same to his palm, immediately bringing it over to shake my hand. The moment our palms collide and my blood meets his, I feel a jolt of electricity travel all the way to my toes. My heart feels like it's swelling with all the newfound bonds formed with every single member of the pack. Instantly, I feel a sense of attachment with everyone as I become linked to them.

"Welcome to the Wolf Moon Pack, April," Liam exclaims over mind-link. The sparkle in his eyes as he looks down at me is enough to make my entire week. If I had known how happy this would make him, I would have done it a lot sooner.

The roaring of the crowd that follows is overrun by the numerous 'Welcome, Luna's I hear over mind-link. Grabbing my hand in his, Liam walks me off the stage and once everyone finally settles down, I block myself from the mind-link. It's all a bit overwhelming for me at the moment, but I'm sure I will soon get used to it.
