Chapter 8
Diamond walked into the boutique and the first thing she thought was 'wow'. Everything looked exquisite, and the boutique looked a lot bigger inside than it did from the outside. No one had noticed her presence yet, and she took the opportunity to look around the room.
"Diamond Carmichael?" she was interrupted.
She nodded. "That's me."
"Hi! My name is Vivian and I'll be your first guide. Mr Kingston said to give you this note," the woman said, handing her a note with handwriting similar to the previous notes:
My Love
One of the things Emery told me you love to do is to shop, but before the shooting, you never had the money to truly shop the way in which you wanted to, so this is your opportunity. I didn't tell Macy and Emery about this part of the day simply because I wanted you to experience this on your own for the first time without them overwhelming you.
You can pick out and buy anything that you want. If you decide to buy the entire store, then that's fine too. I want you to have fun and don't think about the money. My only request is that you include an exquisite dress of your choosing. I've already spoken to Vivian and she laid out all the dresses that they have in your size in one section of the store.
I can't wait to see you and I love you!

"The whole store has been booked for you for the next two hours. He wanted you to have our full attention," Vivian added as she read the last line of the note.
Diamond giggled. "This man is mad."
"I think it's the sweetest thing," one of the other ladies commented. Her name tag read Freda.
"So I get to pick out absolutely anything for the next two hours?" Diamond asked.
Vivian nodded. "He told us to just send him the bill when you're done."
"I feel like the luckiest girl in the world," Diamond said, tears in her eyes.
"You probably are," Vivian joked, making them laugh.
Aside from Vivian and Freda, there were two other women by the names of Poppy and Simone. The four of them helped Diamond to pick out some clothes before they put in some music and had a mini fashion show.
Diamond was having the time of her life and she was falling in love with the whole shopping experience. She knew it wouldn't always be like this, but she would allow herself to enjoy it this one time.
"Do I get to try on the dresses now?" she asked once she'd gone through all the other clothing.
"Yep!" Poppy said as she and Freda carried the dresses through to her.
"Do you guys happen to know why I need a dress?" Diamond questioned.
"He didn't specify. He only said that whatever dress you choose has to be fit for a ball," Vivian informed.
"Wait! So that cancels out all of these," Simone said as she took out the cocktail and short dresses.
"Good thinking," Vivian commented.
"Try on some dresses and then once you've picked out one, we'll style the rest of the look," Poppy suggested to Diamond.
She nodded. "Thanks once again guys."
"You're most welcome. This is the most fun we've ever had working here," Freda said, speaking on behalf of everyone as they nodded in agreement.
Diamond laughed before heading to the change rooms. The women were beyond jealous of her. They handle the expensive clothing in the store every single day, but they've never had this much fun helping out a client before. It was a bonus that she was a lovely person to be around.
"What do you guys think of this one?" she asked nervously.
Freda stopped mid-speech at the sight of her. It was the last dress that she was trying on since the others just didn't have that wow factor. This one however, had them all speechless at how flawless she looked.
"Guys?" she said nervously.
"You look breathtaking! Have you seen yourself?" Vivian asked.
Diamond shook her head. "I was afraid to."
"You have nothing to be afraid of hun. Take a look," Simone told her.
She took a deep breath in before turning to face the huge mirror. Her eyes widened when they settled on her reflection. She looked stunning, and even with her memories gone, she was sure that she'd never looked like this before.
The dress fit her like second skin. It was a cream white floor length dress that had crystal detailing everywhere. The tail wasn't too long or too short, but she loved the bust area more. The embroidery was done in such a way that it resembled the wings of a butterfly with gold stitching being used.
She looked like a fairy queen.
"I don't even think it needs to be styled all that much. I can only think of shoes and maybe a statement hair piece," Freda commented.
"I look..." Diamond trailed off.
"You look amazing. This is definitely the dress," Vivian told her.
"You think so?" Diamond asked.
They nodded. "We know so."
She headed back to the change room and delicately managed to get herself out of the dress. She left the change room and handed the dress over to Simone, while Freda and Poppy were looking for the perfect shoe to go with the dress.
"I managed to take a photo while you were staring at yourself. Would you like me to send it to you?" Vivian offered.
"Please and thank you," Diamond replied, smiling. They exchanged numbers and Vivian sent the photo.
"We've found the shoe, but our jewellery isn't the greatest collection," Poppy mentioned as she brought the shoe box.
"They're perfect for the dress, but isn't it all too much?" Diamond asked unsurely.
She wasn't entirely comfortable with spending so much money in one day.
"Mr Kingston said to reassure you that money is not a problem and that you should just enjoy your day," Vivian told her.
"I don't know what I did to deserve him, but I'm forever grateful," Diamond said, tears in her eyes.
"Aaaaw," the ladies cooed.
They'd closed the store for a little over two hours, but none of them minded because it was worth it to help Diamond. Not only could they see how happy she was, but even they felt good about helping her.
"We'll help you to get these to the car," Freda said once Vivian had processed everything.
"Thank you once again for all your help guys. I really appreciate it," Diamond told them.
"It's our pleasure doll. You can come back any time," Vivian told her.
"That I will definitely do," Diamond replied.
They carried her bags to the car where Rowland strategically placed everything. The dress was laid out across the back as Diamond decided that she would join him in the front. She hugged the ladies goodbye and Vivian pulled out another note.
"I believe the adventure begins now. Each note will describe a place that you have to go to. There, you will find your next clue that brings you closer to Mr Kingston. Good luck and enjoy your the rest of your day," Vivian told her.
"Thank you," Diamond said with a smile before reading the note:
My Love
I can only hope that you enjoyed yourself and that you didn't hold back on getting everything that you wanted in the store. If you didn't, then I hope you know that I will bring you back. I'm going to ask Vivian just by the way.
Anyway, your adventure to find me starts now. As I'm sure Vivian explained, I will describe a place, and you will have to guess it to find me, so here goes.
Your next destination has round goods, crispy goods, tall goods, it smells heavenly and they love sparkles. They sell what they often say makes kids fat. It's up to you to find exactly the one I'm talking about.
Good luck! I can't wait to see you and I love you!
XTK
"What?" she said to herself.
"What is it?" Vivian asked. Diamond handed her the note.
Vivian took a while before answering. "It's a bakery."
"But which one? There are so many of them!" Diamond commented.
Simone looked over Vivian's shoulder to see the note. "Sparkles are your biggest clue."
"But sparkles in what regard? I can think of three bakeries around here that love sparkles. One uses them in their store, one on their packaging and another on their cakes," Vivian pointed out.
Poppy also took a look at the note. "It's the first one."
"How do you know?" Diamond asked.
"Vivian isn't entirely correct. Unlike the other two, they actually use sparkles, well glitter to be correct, on everything from their shop to their goods. Also, their tagline has something to do with making kids fat from happiness, so it must be them," Poppy explained.
"Well, there's only one way to find out. Thanks again for everything," Diamond told them.
They waved goodbye as the car drove away. "Where are we headed to Miss Carmichael?"
Diamond described the bakery based on what Poppy had said, and Rowland knew exactly where to go. Xavier hadn't let him in on any of the other destinations, so it would be an adventure for both Rowland and Diamond to find these places.
They reached the bakery and from outside, Diamond could see the tallest cakes she'd never before seen. Rowland came to let her out of the car, before accompanying her inside. It smelled as heavenly as the note had said, and the manager beamed when she saw the two walk in.
"Diamond Carmichael?" she asked.
Diamond nodded. "I'm guessing I'm in the right place?"
"That you are! My name is Lindsey and I own the shop. Mr Kingston is looking to invest in the bakery to help me franchise it, but he said he would only do it if his fiancée agreed. I believe the note explains everything," the woman said, handing over the note. Diamond smiled at her before reading it:
My Love
Firstly, congratulations on finding your first destination. I'm going to assume that Lindsey gave you a brief explanation of the situation here.
I was here a couple of weeks ago and I happened to try the blueberry cheesecake. It's safe to say that I fell in love and I asked her to tell me her life story. She's got something good going here, and I want to invest in her business and help her to grow it, but I need your input first since I want you to be my partner in everything.
She's arranged a tasting for you, so just go along with it, and I promise you'll enjoy it. I'll be waiting on her call to tell me whether to call my financial manager or not. There's absolutely no pressure since I just want you to enjoy a taste of heaven.
I can't wait to see you, and of course, I love you!
XTK
"What do I know about cakes?" Diamond asked.
Lindsey laughed. "He thought you might ask that, so he said to tell you to just go with your gut feeling and taste buds because you don't have to be an expert to know what a good cake tastes like."
"Sounds like something he would say," Diamond said, joining in the laughter.
"I've prepared this station over here for you, so if you would please come with me," Lindsey said before leading them there.
Diamond and Rowland thoroughly enjoyed themselves as they tasted some of the treats. Lindsey shared her life story with them too, going on to show them a portfolio of some of her greatest works.
Diamond was in love.
"Tell him it's a definite yes!" she told Lindsey once they were done.
"Really? Thank you so much! You have no idea how much this means to me," Lindsey said with happy tears in her eyes.
"You deserve it Lindsey, and I'm not just saying that. You have something with great potential here, and I'm happy to play my part in making things happen for you," Diamond replied.
"This means the world to me. Here's your next note. Please excuse me while I go and make a phone call," Lindsey excused after handing over the note. Diamond giggled as she read it:
My Love
See? I knew you'd like everything! This is a gold mine and we're going to help her achieve her dreams. I've already called my financial manager, so she'll be happy about that.
Your next destination isn't one that I can really describe since you were actually summoned there. My mother wants to spend some time with you and she would like to do so by getting your help with something. I wasn't allowed to know what. I was just told that you had to get to the address on the back of this note.
I can't wait to see you and I love you!
XTK
"Rowland, do you know where this is?" she asked him.
He nodded. "It's only five minutes from here."
"Well it's our next destination," she informed.
"Then we'd better get going," he suggested as Lindsey came back.
The woman couldn't stop thanking Diamond enough, and she promised to bake her a cake to say thank you. Diamond told her that it wasn't necessary, but the woman wouldn't let up, so she accepted the promise of the baked good.
She and Rowland were soon on their way to their destination. Upon arrival, she was surprised to find that they were at an exclusive park where people were moving around, seemingly setting up for an event. This time Rowland stayed behind, so she had to look for Xavier's mother on her own.
"Move that table to the left please," Dorothy requested. Diamond followed her voice and finally found her.
"Hello dear! I'm so happy that you're here," she said excitedly as she hugged the young woman.
Diamond giggled, hugging her back. "I'm happy to be here. Xavier said you needed my help with something."
"Yes, I do! As you can see, we're setting up for a wedding, except the most disastrous thing happened last night. The truck that was carrying the bride's chosen furniture and decor was involved in an accident and it caught fire. Everything was destroyed, and now she's too depressed to decide on anything. Her mother knows that I'm brilliant at this kind of stuff, so she's asked me to come and rescue the wedding somehow. I thought it might be fun to have your help in deciding some of these things," Dorothy explained.
"It sounds like fun, but I know nothing about events management," Diamond pointed out.
"Oh no dear, the management part is all on me. I just need your help with deciding on things like a theme and the likes. You can even tell me what you would choose for your wedding and we can get a head start on that," Dorothy replied.
Diamond beamed at the idea. "That actually sounds like an amazing idea."
"Excellent! Now here's the book I have on everything, so we'll just go through it categorically," Dorothy suggested.
They headed over to a table and Dorothy ordered drinks for them while Diamond went through the book, ticking everything she would want for her own wedding, as well as alternate designs for this wedding. She and Dorothy would talk about some ideas here and there, and they were actually getting somewhere.
They had only the flowers to decide on when a young woman approached them. "Ms Kingston? My mother said to come looking for you."
"Ah Elise dear, this is my daughter in law who I was telling you about. I know you weren't feeling up to rescuing your wedding, so I enlisted her help in doing it for you. We've already gone through everything if you'd like to have a look," Dorothy offered.
Elise nodded and took a seat before Diamond handed her the book. She went on to explain the ideas she had, and Elise would nod here and there, but she didn't say anything. Diamond gave her a while to think about everything, while Dorothy watched on curiously.
She noted that the young woman her son has fallen in love with, has an eye for beautiful things and she was sure that she didn't know it. With a little help, she could very well be the next Dorothy Kingston, and Dorothy loved the idea.
"You know, I woke up so depressed, wishing that everything had been a dream, but you have renewed hope in me. Will you be able to get all of this done by tonight?" Elise asked Dorothy.
Dorothy nodded. "I already have everything on standby dear. It's only a case of you giving the go ahead so that we can set everything up."
"I can't thank you enough," Elise told Diamond.
"It's no problem! I'm also engaged so at least I got something out of it too," Diamond responded, smiling.
"The other ticks I assume?" Elise guessed, to which Diamond nodded.
"You have great taste," Elise commented.
"Thank you," Diamond said, blushing.
"Now off with you! Your bridal party is already on board with the day. I want you to stop stressing and trust that I will get everything done on time," Dorothy told Elise.
"Thank you to you both for doing this. Now I'm actually excited about getting married," Elise said happily.
"You're most welcome," Diamond and Dorothy said before the bride to be left in better spirits.
"This is a lovely thing you did for her," Diamond told Dorothy.
"I've been friends with her mother for years and the woman has helped me more times than I can count, so this is the least I could do for her. However, I've already taken up a lot of your time, so here's your next note and I will see you whenever it is I see you next. Thank you for your help and I hope that we can have more bonding sessions like this," Dorothy said, handing Diamond the note.
Diamond hugged her. "Thank you for helping me with this. I'd love nothing more than to bond with you."
"Then we will arrange it sometime later," Dorothy noted. Diamond nodded before turning to the note.
My Love
I'm sorry if she made you do anything that you didn't want to, but if you enjoyed yourself, then I can only be happy that the two of you are getting along.
Your next destination is as colourful and as peaceful as they come. The fresh air and the cool breeze on a day like this, makes it the most serene place to be. Good luck!
I think you know by now that I can't wait to see you and I most definitely love you!
XTK
"Your son is one of a kind," Diamond joked.
Dorothy chortled. "Oh, that much I know, but it's been a long while since we've seen him this happy, so we're willing to just ride with it."
"Rowland hinted at the fact that his last relationship almost ruined him," Diamond commented.
"He's not wrong about that. One thing I will tell you is that I never liked her to begin with, and my son and I clashed over that for the longest time. As you've probably already picked up, once Xavier decides on something, it's damn near impossible to change his mind, and he was set on that snake. However, you are nothing like her, which is how we all know that you are the person he needs in his life. It's just a bonus that you happen to love him back. You are a blessing Diamond, and I hope you realize that much," Dorothy told her.
"Even if I didn't, he makes me feel like it. I don't know what I did to deserve him, but I promise you that I will never intentionally hurt him or break his heart. He's my chance at happiness, and I have no intentions of ever letting him go," Diamond assured her.
"Music to a mother's ears- thank you. Now, I'm going to cheat here and give you the answer to your note. You're headed to the botanical gardens. Just tell Rowland. He knows where to go," Dorothy informed.
Diamond laughed. "Thank you! Good luck with everything here."
"Thank you. I'm going to need it since the wedding starts in the next five hours," Dorothy replied.
"Then I'd better leave you to it," Diamond said.
She headed back to the car and found Rowland reading a newspaper. She alerted him of their next destination, and just as Dorothy had said, he knew where they had to go. They were there within minutes and Diamond headed to the ticket place.
"Diamond Carmichael?" a guy asked, approaching her.
She frowned. "How do you guys know who I am without me even saying anything?"
The guy laughed. "I'm pretty sure Mr Kingston gave us all a specific description of not only what you look like, but what you'd be wearing as well."
"Ah, I guess that makes sense," she said, nodding.
"Well my name is Todd, and I've been assigned to be your guide today. Mr Kingston said to tell you that you'd definitely be coming back with him, but he wanted you to see the place by yourself first," he told her.
She raised an eyebrow. "That's weird."
"I'm not supposed to tell you, but you're only going on this adventure because he's currently working, so he needed to keep you busy for the day since he's only free at night," Todd explained.
"The sly man! I'm so going to make him pay for this!" she said, laughing.
Todd joined in. "You didn't hear it from me though."
"Your secret is safe with me. I guess we'd better get around to that tour then," she said.
"Right! Follow me," he said, signalling the way.
She was entranced by the beauty around her. She always knew that the world in itself had many beautiful flowers, but as Todd told her some facts, she realized that she wasn't aware just how many different kinds of flowers there were.
"Excuse me," Todd said as his phone started ringing.
She smiled. "It's ok. You can go ahead and take it."
"It's for you," he said after a while.
"Me?" she asked. He nodded and handed her the phone.
"Hello?" she said.
"Diamond dear, we forgot to pick out flowers. Would you be a dear and tell Todd which flowers you like and he'll call the florist and let them know," Dorothy's request came through.
"Oh, ok, but how did you know to call him?" Diamond asked.
"Dear, I know everything," Dorothy said before the line went dead.
"You look confused," Todd joked.
"I'm marrying into a strange family, that's all. My mother in law to be needs my help with some flowers, and I believe I have to relay my choices to you," she said.
He nodded. "Let's head over to the flowers most likely to be used at a wedding and see what you choose from there."
She was on board with that, and once they arrived, she found it hard to pick because she loved them all. She kept mentioning which ones she would choose, but she also had to stay on track and choose the ones that would go best with Elise's wedding.
"I think that's it," she said once she was done.
"Great! Unfortunately your time here is up, so I have to let you go. I'm going to call the florist, so here's your next note. I hope I'll see you again sometime for a proper and full tour," he said, handing her the note.
She'd already picked up on his love for his job. "Most definitely. Thank you and good luck with arranging those flowers."
"It's going to be a mission, but nothing that can't be handled. Good luck with the rest of your adventure," he said.
"Thanks," she said, smiling, before reading the note:
My Love
I wish I could've seen your face when you saw the flowers, but it will definitely happen one of these days.
So, it only hit me now that the easier way to do this would've been to just write the addresses on the back of the notes for you to follow. I suck at these descriptions, and I couldn't think of a way to describe your next destination, so I guess you just have to follow the address on the card.
You know this part. I love you!
XTK
Diamond laughed to herself as she walked back to the car. She was having the best day, even if it was structured this way because her fiancé was too busy to spend time with her. She just appreciated the effort he'd put into everything.
It was late afternoon and she gave Rowland the next destination address. They were stuck in some traffic for a short while before they arrived. She wasn't surprised to find out that she was going to a spa.
She was alerted that she was only there to do her hair, nails and makeup as this was the final destination before she would be seeing her fiancé. She was more than happy to be treated and she let herself relax and enjoy it.
She opted for light make up with golden hues and a simple French manicure and pedicure. They'd just finished styling her hair when Emery, Macy and Gail walked into the spa. They were dressed elegantly in gold dresses and she was wondering what was going on.
"What are you guys doing here?" she asked them.
"We're here to make sure you look great for your dinner date with my brother. He's put a lot into this," Macy informed.
Diamond noticed the bag that had her dress in it in Emery's hands. "We just got it from Rowland now."
"We've cleared out one of the mediation rooms for you, so you can head over there," Yolanda, the owner of the spa, told them.
"Thank you for everything Yolanda," Emery told her.
"You are most welcome, and Diamond, you look stunning," Yolanda told her.
Before she could reply, she was already being ushered away to the meditation room. Macy handed her a new set of lingerie to change into, which she did before they helped her into the dress. Before she could even see herself, earplugs were placed in her ears, and a silk blindfold was carefully placed over her eyes as they then ushered her out of the spa.
She couldn't hear or see anything, but she knew that she was in the car and it was moving. She didn't know who was with her either since different smells were mixing together. After a while, she gave up trying to guess and instead let herself be led to wherever it is she was being taken.
The car stopped moving after a while before she was helped out of the car. Once again, she let herself be led. She came to a stop before she felt someone pull her engagement ring off. She was about to protest when her leg was lifted and something was slipped all the way to her thigh.
She was truly confused then as earrings were placed on her ears. She felt something being put into her hair as well and something cold was slipped over her wrist. Finally, the blindfold and earplugs were removed, and it took her a while to adjust to her surroundings before her eyes landed on Kenny, who was dressed to kill in a tux.
"What's going on? What are you doing here? Where are we?" she asked.
"I believe you're familiar with this place," he smiled, indicating to the window.
She looked outside and her eyes widened when she realized that she was back at the park. "What are we doing here Kenny?"
"Let's just say it took a lot to get this right, but Elise isn't getting married, and I'm the lucky guy who gets to walk his best friend down the aisle."
