Chapter 7

"That's it! How does that feel?" Dr Granger, the physiotherapist asked.

Diamond smiled while Xavier held her hand. "It feels ok."

It had been a little over two weeks since Diamond had woken up and everything had been going well. It turned out that the pain in her back had been a torn stitch, and once they fixed it, she was fine, even though Xavier still insisted that she use the wheelchair. She could walk perfectly, but she didn't want to argue with the hard headed man in any case.

"Well, I really don't think you need the wheelchair anymore from what I can see," Dr Hyland said as he shot Xavier a look.

Xavier shrugged. "Safety precautions."

Dr Granger laughed. "She can walk."

"I still don't want her straining herself," Xavier argued.

"She's sitting right here," Diamond mumbled under her breath.

"Well, Diamond, you just need to continue taking your meds and you should be good to go. Perhaps then Mr Kingston will be convinced," Dr Granger teased.

"Yeah, yeah," Xavier said as the other three laughed.

They finished up with the appointment after Dr Hyland had his final word with them. Diamond promised him an invitation to the wedding, together with his daughters who had taken excellent care of Diamond during her last days at the hospital.

"Well, Miss Carmichael, what would you like to do now?" Xavier asked once they were in the car.

"I want breakfast, but I also know that we can't have it in public," she said, sighing.

"Love, it's not that I'm hiding you or anything like that, but you have to remember that I know how these people can be. They will want to tear you apart and I know you think you're ready for that, but you're not. You may be physically fine, but your emotions wouldn't be able to handle a situation like that, or at least not yet," he replied, taking her hand in his.

She shot him a smile. "I hate that you're right, but I can't fault you for looking after me, so thank you,"

"Anything for you," he said before kissing her hand.

They ended up getting their breakfast to go from Starbucks before going back to the penthouse. Xavier had spotted the press around, but was sure that he'd hidden Diamond well enough for her to not be exposed. They set up their breakfast before sitting in the lounge to have it while watching some TV.

"Reality shows are so unrealistic," Diamond commented.

Xavier chuckled. "It's the irony of the situation love."

"I get that, but I mean its scary how many people actually entertain this crap! These people's lives are probably edited and people are excited over things that aren't even true," she added.

"People need ways to make money I guess," he said before the doorbell went.

Xavier cleared their empty dishes while Diamond wheeled herself to the door. She was surprised to see Emery, Everett and Macy there and opened to let them in.

"What are you guys doing here?" Xavier asked as he saw them.

Macy rolled her eyes. "Gee, feeling the love."

"I didn't mean it like that," Xavier defended.

Macy smiled. "I know."

"We're here because we're pretty sure you haven't checked the tabloids yet," Everett said, handing Xavier his iPad.

Xavier frowned as he scanned through the article. "When was this posted?"

"Last night apparently! The thing we don't understand is how she's posting at night when publishing houses close at the end of the business day," Emery commented.

"Blogs work the whole day," Macy pointed out.

"What can we do about this?" Xavier asked Everett. Diamond was patiently waiting for someone to let her in on what's going on.

Everett sighed. "She's already leaked the story Xav, and you know that with her, there are no limits."

"Can't we just kill her already?" Macy said angrily.

"As tempting as that sounds, no," Xavier said, deadpan.

"I still don't understand what's going on," Diamond spoke up. The four people in the room only seemed to recall her presence then.

She was officially moved into Xavier's place and she hadn't really left since moving in, save for her physio appointments. Xavier had been working from home so that he could take care of her, while Everett ran things at the office. It made her really happy and annoyed at the same time to have his attention.

Sometimes it overwhelmed her, while most times, she welcomed it.

He'd gone and bought her a new car, and linked her to his accounts. She knew it would be futile arguing with him, and honestly, she loved it, so she wasn't going to complain. Macy and Emery were just itching for the day Xavier lets them take her shopping.

Xavier turned to her. "This reporter leaked the story that you and I are married and now everyone wants to know if it's true."

"Well, how the hell did she find out?" Diamond asked. She thought they'd been careful about the whole thing.

"Well, she didn't get your name, but from the picture in the article, we can only pin it down to stalking. She's actually stooped this low?" Emery mumbled.

"I still don't understand the animosity between you four," Diamond pointed out.

"She's a horrible person Dee; that's all you need to know," Emery replied. Diamond knew that they weren't being fully honest with her but she wasn't going to press them to tell her the truth.

"Alright, well what now?" Diamond asked.

"You guys either come out as a married couple, or do the whole reveal through a wedding," Everett suggested.

"I don't want to be rushed because of a reporter," Diamond refused.

"We're going to ignore everything. Both of us won't wear our rings until our wedding day. You can wear this until then," Xavier said, kneeling before Diamond with a velvet box. When he opened it, she gasped.

"Where do you get these exquisite things?" she whispered as she looked at the ring.

Unlike the ring currently on her wedding ring finger, this one was a big, single diamond rock that glimmered in the light with two smaller diamonds on either side of it. It was on a silver white band, blending in nicely with the same themed colours.

It was honestly beautiful, and even Emery and Macy gasped at the sight of it. Xavier took out the other ring from her finger, putting it in his pocket, before taking her hand in his.

"Diamond Lisa Carmichael, I know that everything between us didn't happen the way that it normally happens between normal people, but I can't say that I'm not grateful for that. You have saved my life in more ways than one, and I honestly fall more and more in love with you every day. With that being said, will you do me the crazy honour of being my wife?" Xavier asked nervously.

Macy, Emery and Everett couldn't believe it. While the three of them had known the man a long time, none of them had ever seen him nervous. Even in the most intimidating of situations, Xavier always held his own, and yet, here he was, nervous about a marriage proposal to a woman who had literally taken bullets for him. The answer was undoubtedly clear on Diamond's face as tears streamed down her face.

She giggled. "No."

"Woman!" Xavier groaned.

"Of course I'll marry you dumbass! If I don't, who will?" she said, making him chuckle. He slipped the ring onto her finger.

"There are plenty of women who wouldn't mind marrying me," he pointed out.

"True, but all of them would be marrying you for the wrong reasons," she countered.

"She's got you there," Macy commented.

"True! I guess you've saved me once again," he replied.

"What would you be without me?" Diamond said dramatically.

"Dead!" Macy, Everett and Emery commented, laughing, while Xavier scowled.

"Damn!" he mumbled.

"Most people opt for bulletproof vests, but you just rock a human protector," Diamond teased him.

"Haha," he said, deadpan as everyone else laughed.

"So, are we releasing a statement?" Everett asked.

"Screw the statement! When is your engagement party?" Macy squeaked.

"Calm down Mace. Everett is right on this one. They can choose to release a press statement, or make a public appearance instead," Emery pointed out.

"I think I like the second idea better," Diamond commented.

"You just want out of that chair," Xavier said amusedly.

She pouted. "Can you blame me? You have me using the damn thing when Dr Hyland clearly said I don't need it."

"Fine! We'll get you out of the thing as soon as we've decided how we're going to approach the situation," Xavier bargained.

Macy beamed. "And what about your engagement party?"

"You and Ree can go ahead and plan it," Diamond offered. She knew that everyone was on board with her planning her own wedding, so she would let them have this one thing.

Emery smirked. "Oh no, she can take care of this! I'm on bachelorette party duty."

"I don't like that look," Xavier was the one to comment, while Diamond shook her head in amusement.

Emery shrugged. "Too bad!"

"Now that I'm out of hospital, what's my life plan besides being engaged to one of the richest men on the planet?" Diamond asked.

"What do you mean?" Xavier asked.

"She means what else is going to happen with her life?" Macy elaborated.

"Do you want to work?" Everett asked her.

Diamond nodded. "I would like to, but nothing too hectic."

"Your fiancé still doesn't have a PA," Emery reminded.

"That's actually not a bad idea. That way, I even know where you are at all times," Xavier agreed.

"I also need a job since I'm not travelling anymore," Macy added.

"You can be Rett's PA," Emery told her.

Diamond frowned at the two men. "How did the two of you survive so long without PA's?"

They shrugged. "Emery."

"She was doing the job of three people?" Diamond asked in disbelief. When they nodded, she pinched them both.

"Ow! What was that for?" they both shouted.

"Well you were stupid enough to let Ree work three jobs, and you allowed it!" she said, directing the first part of her accusation at Xavier, and the latter at Everett.

Emery giggled, taking in the men's horrified expressions. "I really didn't mind Dee."

Diamond turned to her. "I hope they paid you well."

Emery nodded. "They paid me three people's salary."

"At least they're not jerks!" Diamond huffed.

Macy laughed. "I wouldn't want to be on your bad side."

"And I'm getting married to her," Xavier mumbled, only to be elbowed in the jewels.

"Woman, what is it with you and my balls?" he groaned while their spectators laughed.

Diamond smirked. "The advantage of being in this thing is that I've got easy aim on them."

"So you've got your eye on the ball?" Macy teased, making Diamond blush furiously.

"Aren't you a little too young?" Diamond murmured.

"Nah uh! You can't play that card," Macy joked as they laughed at Diamond's pout.

"I hate all of you," Diamond grumbled.

Xavier chuckled. "We love you too love."

"Well then, while it was lovely visiting you, we're going to leave now. I have a meeting in an hour's time and Em has to go back to the office," Everett announced. Since it was early on a Thursday afternoon, it was understandable.

"Mace, I can teach you the ropes so that you can start your job as Rett's PA," Emery offered.

Macy beamed. "That would be awesome of you."

"We'll see you guys when we see you," Diamond said.

Macy giggled. "We'll most probably be back on Saturday to confirm everything for the engagement party."

"Saturday it is then," Xavier agreed. Seconds later, they were gone.

Xavier turned to his fiancée. "So Miss Carmichael, what would you like to do?"

"Don't you have any work to do?" she asked. While he'd been home with her the entire time, he hadn't actually spent any time with her.

"Nope! I'm all yours today and tomorrow," he said, carrying her out of the wheelchair and onto the couch.

She blushed. "'You didn't have to do that,"

"I didn't but I wanted to," he smiled.

"So, we can play some games and watch some movies?" she suggested. He walked over to a cabinet under the TV.

"I have Monopoly and Scrabble," he announced.

"We'll play both," she answered.

"I think we'll play and then end our night with movies," he said as he took out the two boxes.

They set up everything on the coffee table and started with Monopoly. Diamond learned that while her future husband to be was a brilliant businessman in real life, he sucked at Monopoly. At some point, he even accused her of cheating. When he'd gone bankrupt, they moved on to Scrabble. He wasn't doing too well there either.

"Triple word baby!" she cheered.

"How are you doing this? This has to be some kind of witchcraft," he mumbled.

She giggled. "You're a sore loser honey."

"Proudly!" he said, making her shake her head with a smile.

"While we're at this, what would you like for dinner? We can order out," he said, getting up to go to his phone.

"Uh, let's go with pizza," she said thoughtfully.

"Chicken and mushroom?" he asked knowingly.

"Yep! Don't forget the bread sticks and-" she said only to be cut off.

"The cranberry juice and cheese fries," he said as the person answered the phone. She smiled and mouthed the words 'I love you', which he mouthed back.

"I can't believe it took one person for us to know each other so in-depthly," she commented once he'd hung up the phone.

"In-depthly? And you're beating me at Scrabble?" he teased.

She scrunched up her nose. "Shut up."

"God I love it when you do that," he said before pecking her nose.

"You're getting cooties on my nose Xavier," she whined.

He chortled. "You're twenty three Diamond. Cooties? Really?"

"Hey! Cooties never die! They just grow older with you," she stated confidently.

"Whatever you say Cooties McCutie," he said as he winked.

"Cooties McCutie? How dare you!" she gasped, hitting his arm.

He laughed. "What? I think it's adorable."

She narrowed her eyes at him. "I'm beginning to question your definition of adorable and cute."

"But you are adorable my love," he said, tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear.

"I don't believe you," she feigned.

He frowned. "But that's a problem."

"How do you intend on fixing it?" she asked. He looked lost in thought for a while before he got up and left the room. He came back with her cosmetics bag in hand.

"What are you doing?" she asked warily.

"Making you cute," he said innocently. She almost cooed at how adorable he was being, until the red lipstick approached her lips.

She jumped up in panic. "Hold on! What are you doing?"

He pouted. "I told you I'm making you look cute."

"I'm not your canvas Kingston!" she warned.

"I didn't say you were Carmichael. Just trust me on this," he said.

"Well now that you smirked like that, that will be a no," she said as she shook a head.

He pouted, working the puppy dog eyes. "Please?"

"Who needs a nuclear bomb when you have those things?" she mumbled as she sat back down.

"Yay!" he mock cheered.

"I will skin you alive if I come out of this looking horrid Xavier Thorne Kingston!" she warned. He just shrugged, the smile still on his face, before getting down to it.

The doorbell went just as Xavier finished up his creation. He was proud of it, and he hoped she would like it. She got an idea and decided to be the one to answer the door. When she opened the door, the delivery guy's eyes went wide.

She bit her lip. "Is it bad?"

He frowned. "Why do you think it is?"

"Because I let my fiancé do my make-up," she replied.

"You look beautiful Mam," he complimented.

Xavier appeared behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist. "Like I knew you would."

The delivery guy's eyes went wide. "Xavier Kingston?"

Xavier narrowed his eyes. "You're not my normal delivery guy."

"Uh, Sir, Dante's my cousin and he wasn't feeling well so I filled in for him," the delivery guy said nervously.

"What's your name?" Xavier demanded.

"Raymond," the guy said nervously.

"Stop scaring the poor guy honey. I can't believe you have a designated delivery guy to begin with," Diamond commented.

Xavier shrugged. "I don't trust people."

"Well, Raymond here doesn't look all that bad," Diamond replied.

"Looks can be deceiving love," Xavier said before walking away.

"Excuse him! In case you didn't notice, he's big-headed," Diamond apologized, making Raymond laugh.

"He's just concerned about his safety and yours," Raymond said politely.

She paid him for the delivery before he left. She took their food to the lounge to find Xavier putting the games away and setting up the couch for their movie night. From what she could see, he'd picked out some movies for them to watch from different genres. She set the food down before settling herself under the blanket on the couch. She didn't miss the fact that even the fireplace was going.

"Ok, so which movie would you like to watch?" he asked, holding up five DVDs.

"Uh, since I don't remember watching any of them if I ever did, how about you choose?" she suggested.

He did so and they ended up watching Titanic. He knew it was her favourite and that she would probably fall in love with it again. She couldn't remember anything about it but she cried when it ended.

By then, their pizza was finished and they both still had energy for one more movie. He chose Mr and Mrs Smith for their second movie, which she thoroughly enjoyed.

"I loved the first one more," she commented. He felt proud of himself.

He winked. "I knew you would love."

"It's my favourite movie isn't it?" she asked knowingly.

"Yep! You wish you had a love like that," he told her.

She blushed. "Not anymore."

"What do you mean?" he asked, though he understood.

"That was an awesome movie night," she yawned, ignoring his question. He just chuckled and let her be.

"Indeed it was. Off to bed with you," he said, picking her up bridal style. She was asleep even before they made it to the room.

She woke up to the sound of slow and calming music in the background, while the birds chirped away. She could faintly smell bacon as her eyes slowly opened. The light that was shining into the room, wasn't enough to blind her, but was enough to shine upon the bed. She got up and stretched, before noticing the tray of food beside her. There was a note there too. She grabbed it and opened it:

Good Morning My Love

Happy Valentine's Day! Today will be an adventure for you to find me. There are clues that you have to follow. I believe Macy and Emery have set out your outfit to match mine. I will be waiting for you at the last destination. I love you!

XTK

She blushed furiously after reading the card. She couldn't believe it. She'd forgotten that it was Valentine's Day, but only because she couldn't recall ever celebrating the day. When she'd asked Kenny about her past relationships, he told her that she didn't have any.

This would be the first time she celebrates Valentine's Day with a lover, and she couldn't have chosen anyone better to be her first.

She moved her attention to the breakfast, smiling to herself when she saw that it was her favourite- bacon, scrambled eggs, a warm chocolate croissant, a small bowl of fruit salad and a latte. She knew that he had an expensive coffee-maker in his kitchen; one that she hadn't taught herself how to use yet.

She ate, happily watching some TV, before going off to the shower to get ready for her day. When she got to their joint closet, her outfit was picked out and she blushed when she saw what had been picked out- well the underwear part of it at least.

They'd picked out a blood red dress that reached just above her knees, with a sweetheart neckline. They paired it with matching heels and ruby accessories. She'd been given specific instructions on her make-up as well, a matching lipstick adorning her lips.

She was officially the lady in red, having been instructed on how to style her hair as well. The red shades were all the same, so as to match completely. The only thing that was a different colour were the diamonds on her ring.

She got downstairs to find her second note waiting for her on the kitchen counter next to a red clutch bag that matched her outfit perfectly:

My Love

Now that you're ready to go, Rowland is waiting outside the door to escort you to your next destination. The fun begins from there on. You are allowed to take the clutch bag and anything that fits in it. I love you!

PS You look absolutely stunning, even if I haven't seen you yet.

XTK

She giggled and packed her phone, lipstick and a packet of pocket tissues. She left the apartment to find Rowland waiting for her. He was dressed in all red, making her laugh. She'd grown attached to the middle-aged man who made conversation with her if Xavier wasn't around, much like now. She was led to a red Mercedes Benz CLA, where Rowland opened the door for her to step in.

Even the interior of the car was red.

She giggled. "I'm sensing a theme here."

"Well, it is Valentine's Day Miss Carmichael," Rowland replied amusedly as they headed to their destination.

"But must there be so much red?" she asked.

"It's the colour of love, and I do believe Master Kingston is in love," he replied with a smile.

"Has he ever been in love?" she asked curiously. He shifted uncomfortably.

"Once, but that isn't my story to tell," he replied politely.

She smiled. "It's ok Rowland. I'll ask him myself."

He chuckled lightly. "That would be wise for us all."

"Can you at least tell me how it ended?" she prodded.

"It changed him," he vaguely replied.

"That sounds drastic," she mumbled. There was silence for a while as he debated whether or not he should say anything.

"Miss Carmichael, while Master Kingston comes across as a brute to most people, I believe that you've managed to bring a little bit of the old him back. One thing I can tell you is that while he's been in love before, he never used to look at her the way he looks at you. With you, it's almost as if he's sure that you're the only one in the world for him. One thing I know is that he most definitely appreciates the love you give to him more than anything, and unfortunately if you break his heart, a whole lot of people will kill you, myself included," he chuckled.

She on the other hand, was absolutely horrified, but at the same time awed.

"I have no intentions of breaking his heart because I value his love just as much, if not more. I guess the threat has been well received," she replied.

"Good!" he smiled before they pulled up to a boutique.

"Your adventure awaits," Rowland informed her after opening the door for her.

She couldn't wait to start as she giddily stepped into the high class boutique.
