some people just want to watch the world burn
I groan, opening my eyes. I'm laying on Landon's arms as I look up. It's like sudden flashes of what happened. I almost couldn't see with the bright light. That...that witch. That burned the bus. I look down and see I'm covered in dirt. Huffing, I stand up. "You shouldn't do that." Landon whispers. "You could barely walk on the way here."
I take my hair out of the red ribbon, letting the sweaty, knotty waves down. "I'll heal." I say without emotion. I look around the cellar, things are piled on top of a barrel. "Where's the knife?" I ask him, almost silently. He loosely opens his jacket to reveal the handle. "We can't let anyone know we have it." I tell him, shaking my head.
His eyes grow wide. "What? When your buddies show up deciding to burn me alive they're gonna want the knife." He says, worry tracing his voice.
"Yeah and if we're tossing it around and she knows we have it then we're all gonna be burned alive." I snap, taking it from his hands. He swipes his hand under my nose, revealing blood on his finger. I spin away, attempting to wipe the stain.
"You took off your necklace." He realizes, noticing the absence of a ding.
I look back at him. "I did. So they could find me if they tried."
His blue eyes grow wide. "Annie why would you do that?" He hisses.
"If anyone can stop that lady from killing us it will be Dr. Saltzman and Hope." I snap. I turn away, looking at a shelf, breathing heavy. I was going to snap. I know it. It would only take an even stronger trigger.
He sighs. "Tell me about your mom. Your family." He says, attempting to distract me from the issue at hand. I look back at him as he sits back in his corner.
"My mom was a daughter of the Kings, a powerful family of witches. 10th Century AD. Her family was friends with the Mikaelsons, a neighboring family in the village. She befriended them all, even falling in love with Kol. However, she became arraigned to marry Klaus."
"But weren't they all vampires?" Landon asks, confuses.
I giggle, shaking my head. "Actually, that happened weeks later. My mother comes from her house to find Kol, as she was still madly in love with him when she comes across Esther changing them. My mom had witches blood, so she channeled that power and turned all of them into what they are..or were."
"Vampires."
I nod. "My dad was the first Hybrid. Hope gave you the rest the other night. My mom ran, she was smarter than to stick around." I hum, picturing what is Ophelia King.
"What about you?" He questions.
I sigh. "My mom's Original curse had been temporarily lifted by a witch friend. She was just a human witch for an amount of time. She saw Niklaus and suddenly, when she was back to a vampire, she was pregnant." I shrug. "However, she was already a target as it is, with me we were doomed. So she gave me to the North East Atlantic Pack."
Landon purses his lips. "I feel like there's more." He says sheepishly.
I nod at him, shaking my head slowly. "Some witch bitch cursed me be a wolf permanently unless it was broken. Worse than the Crescent Moon Pack who was human on full moons." I huff. "I became human for the first time when my mom and Hayley Marshall saved me. That's how I met Hope. She was already going to Salvatore School, probably one of the best. But I, I didn't even know how to be human. I was a Mikaelson King who had to learn everything at 14." I say exasperated. "When Mr. Saltzman realized I was going to need my own...space for uncontrolled transitions he sent me to the cages."
He shakes his head. "That sounds...terrible."
"It's not that bad." I laugh. I kick my feet on the floor as I plop next to him. "We're gonna be here a while." I sigh.
Landon chuckles. "Indeed."
I look down at my shoes. "What about you?" I whisper. He furrows his brows as my eyes look at his pretty green ones. "Why did you take the knife? Why did you take me? Why didn't the compulsion-"
"Annie, I don't even remember taking the knife! I don't know why the compel stuff didn't work, I was scared and you're the only person I could trust." He says, catching me off guard. "I'm sorry, Annie, I didn't even-"
"Hope is going to murder you when she finds us." I sigh, shaking my head.
His breath clouds in front of us as I lean on his side. "Yeah. I know." I close my eyes slowly, dozing off.
♚
A bright line shines in my face, causing me and Landon to look up. "Raf?" Landon and I get up, surprisingly Rafael wraps his arms around us both. "How did you find us?" Landon asks.
"It was, uh, a lot of crazy witchy people looking for you." The werewolf mumbles. "There's a bus full of people-
I speak up. "That wasn't us!" I shout. "It wasn't even Landon!"
"Then who was it?" I look over Rafis shoulder to see Hope, her face contorted in anger. Veins pop under my eyes, my eyes changing slowly as I growl. She had something on her, something evil. If anyone could sense it, it's a Mikaelson.
Rafi looks over at her. "Hey you said you'd give me three minutes."
"And like I said, people lie." She shrugs. I glare at Hope, who mumbles a spell, Landon being flung at the wall. "Where's the knife?"
I snap my head at her. "We don't have it!" I growl out. "We lost it in the woods running from some psycho fire breathing bitch!" I shout.
"Annie, stay out of it!" She orders me.
"No." I stomp my foot on the ground, things falling off the shelves. "For the past two years you have made me feel like nothing. You made me feel crazy because of everything our parents have done! It's not my fault our dad was psychotic and they're dead, but you sure as hell make it seem like it!" She squints at me, shaking her head before flinging her hand at me as well, both me and Landon at the wall now.
Rafi looks at my sister pleadingly. "Hope, come on!"
"Last chance." She walks closer. "Who the hell was it!?" She shouts again.
"There was this girl," Landon says. "A-and she was acting insane and then started breathing fire! She burned everyone and me and your sister barley made it out alive." He explains. I let out a scream, banging on the walls.
"I don't believe a word you're saying." Hope says. She lets us fall to the floor, Rafael kneeling down.
Landon shakes his head. "You have every right to be mad at me, but I am telling you the truth." He says exasperated.
"Rafi, help." I plead.
He looks between all of us. "I believe them." He says.
She scoffs. "Yeah and so does my sister. He probably used the knife to make her act like he's telling the truth or something." She retorts.
That was the trigger. "For the last time, I'm not lying!" Suddenly the spell holding me down is broken and I lunge at Hope, and she barely moved out of the way. My nose bleeds as I glare at her.
"You believe that a fire breathing woman burned the bus alive?" She asks Rafi, exasperated. I breathe heavy, anger pulsing in my veins. "And Landon happened to be spared?"
Rafael stands up. "He told you that he ran."
"And conveniently lost the knife on the way." She says. I roll my eyes, Rafi shaking his head at me.
"She kept coming at me like she was gonna take it from me, she was burning everything in her path!" Landon shouts.
Hope changes to another question. "You wanna tell me what you were doing stealing the knife in the first place!?"
"I don't remember stealing it."
"Of course not." The other tribrid scoffs. "How about pretending to be compelled and stealing my sister?"
"Enough!" With a wave of my hand Hope flies into a wall. "He didnt want to be in that damn cellar again, and I don't blame him!" Blood from my nose continues to trickle down my face, and I can see the concern in Landon's eyes. "He just wanted out of that horrid place! He can't handle your small little closets! If Mr. Saltzman thought Landon would say anything he would get tossed back in! I'm happy he got me out cause then I had a little bit of time without little miss favorite breathing down my neck!" I scream at her.
"There wasn't a good ending for either of us." Landon snarls, pulling me back to him and Rafi. "I didn't want to steal from you and I don't want a fire breather chasing me. I'm sorry for all of it!" He turns away, and I bite my bottom lip, glaring at Hope again.
Rafael looks at her. "He's not lying. I know him. Now if he says there's a fire breathing woman running through the woods-"
Alaric coms running down the steps. "There's a fire breathing woman running through the woods." Hopes face is pure shock, Alaric looks at me as Hope looks at Landon. "Did I, or did I not tell you not to engage!?"
"The only danger is crappy apologies." She mumbles.
"And looks can be deceiving." Alaric adds. "Now, our bus refugee, turns out she's a pyromancer."
Landon stutters before asking, "What's a pyromancer?"
"A fire breathing witch." Hope says, dumb founded. "Ric, she wants the knife."
"Well where is it?" They all look back at me and Landon.
Landon doesn't speak. "We lost it in the woods, we were running around trying to find a place to hide." I say.
Alaric nods. "Okay, well lets uh, find it before she does, huh?" He tells us. We all pile out of the root cellar, the same woman from last night there. I effortlessly pull the knife out of Landon's jacket, putting it in my skirt before anyone can notice. She holds her hand out impatiently.
"What does she want?" Rafael asks.
"She wants the knife." I mummer. Suddenly her eyes glow orange as mine changes as well.
"Back in the cellar!" Alaric says, Rafi and Hope yank me down the stairs before I can make a move. I let out a loud wolf-like shout as Ric shuts the door.
Alaric grabs a phone, dialing the substitute at the school. "Please tell me you have something."
I sigh. "Where are you?" I hear Dorian ask.
"Root cellar full of contraband that our pickpocket Landon Kirby claims he didn't steal." Hope snarls. I growl at her and she sticks her tongue out at me.
Rafi chuckles. "Sisterly love." He jokes. "There's a fire-breather outside. Can you two prioritize your rage?" He asks us.
"Dragon." Mr. Williams on the phone says.
Mr. Saltzman looks at the phone. "What?" He asks flabbergasted.
"Dragon." Williams repeats. "She steals treasure, breathes fire, hides the loot in her lair. She's-shes not a pyromancer, she's a-"
Alaric cuts in. "Dragons don't exist, or look like normal people." He insists.
"There's a time we would've said that about vampires." The librarian argues.
I smirk up at Mr. Saltzman, who scoffs. "Okay, fine. She's a human dragon. Now what?"
"In anything I've ever read-"
"In fiction." Alaric cuts.
"-the way to take down a dragon, you need a buttload of courage and a sword." He finishes.
I smirk up at Mr. Saltzman. "How bout a knife?" I hum, taking it out of my skirt.
Hope takes the knife from me as Alaric finishes his call. He snaps his head back at me. "You are in big trouble when this is over. Ophelia is going to need to get a ride to Virginia-"
"That won't be necessary." A voice says. Suddenly the slowly burning door opens, causing us all to shout. Hope attempts to use her magic to stop it but it doesn't work. The doors shut behind the creature, smoke clearing slowly. "You think Freya wouldn't contact me if my daughters were in danger, Alaric?"
My eyes widen. "Mom?" My voice is shaky as she smirks down at me. I push through everyone, wrapping my arms around her tightly, tears running down my face.
"My little Anastasia." She sighs, lifting my chin as she cups my cheeks. "What have you gotten yourself into?" She shakes her head. She walks past me, brushing ash off her fur coat. She wears a cream colored one, a red shirt and black jeans, black booties as well. She gazes at Mr. Saltzman. "Fill me in, and let's get this dragon slayed."
I shake my head. "That wasn't cool." I say.
♚
Within minutes, we going open the door. Hope, Mom, and I all walk out slide my side as Hope pushes the woman away. My mom scoffs. "Didn't anyone ever tell you smokings bad for you?" She hums. Hope holds the knife in hand as the dragon gets back up, stomping towards us.
My eyes begin to change. "I know. Quittings hard." My sister shrugs. The woman breathes fire. "Scutum." Hope says, blocking us. I growl at the dragon as we walk towards her. Suddenly, I lunge around the fire, taking the dragon down. "Took you long enough." She huffs.
I stand up, shrugging. "I was debating if I wanted to be an only child or not." Suddenly Mom takes the knife from Hopes hand and stabs the dragon in the heart effortlessly.
She stands up, brushing the hair off her face. "I will never get used to the feeling of killing someone. It's like taking drugs." Hope and I raise our eyebrows, walking towards each other.
Alaric, Rafi, and Landon all hop out. Alaric reaches for my mom, holding her hand. "You girls all right?" He looks down at the corpse. "Let's give her a proper burial." He says. Rafi and Hope go off to find a shovel. Alaric takes a phone call, leaving me, Mom, and Landon.
"So," Mom wraps her arm around me. "what's the story about kidnapping my daughter?"
Landon coughs awkwardly. "Uh, well I'm not sure."
I laugh. "Mom, how did you know-"
"Whenever you take off your necklace, Freya and Davina are notified. If you aren't at The School, they notify me." She explains. We are suddenly awkwardly shaded by something as Hope and Rafi come back. We all turn around to see a not so dead, not human dragon. Instead of burning us alive is slowly flies up into the air. Mom grabs hold of me, her arms around me tightly.
Alaric turns to me and my mom. "You two need to go."
I open my mouth. "What!? No!"
"We will. I'll bring her back in a few hours." My mom cuts. Before I can argue my mom zips away with me by her side.
♚
We reach a random destination and I shove my mom away. "What the hell, Mom!" I shout, shoving her away. "You left Hope! And Rafi! And Landon! And Ric!" I scream at her.
"Annie, they are not my family." My own mother responds.
"But they're mine! Hope is my sister! She saved me when I was dying more than once!"
Mom shakes her head. "You don't understand, Anastasia."
I growl in response, "What don't I understand!?"
"You may have Mikaelson blood, but I am not letting you turn into them!" She says, her voice harsh. "I protected you for the first 13 years of your life, and then you watched your family get torn apart and murdered. Death follows wherever they go. Including you and Hope."
"So what!? You killed your own parents with my father! You can't say a damn thing-"
She cuts me off. "No, I can't! But I can just as easily pull you out of this school and find a way for you to never see your sister again!" I stand back, shocked by her words.
"Why are you saying these things?" I say, my voice shaking.
"Annie, when you take off that necklace, all the protection I have ever given you leads to be for nothing." She puts her hands on my shoulders. "You're my daughter. Hope is too. However, you're both powerful creatures that together, with her father's blood in both of yours-"
I cut in this time. "With yours in mine."
She chuckles. "You two could take on the wolrd and kill everyone if you truly wanted, just like your father and his siblings once did." She brushes my hair from my face. "I don't want you and Hope making the same mistakes we once did."
♚
I open Hopes door back at school, she's sitting on her bed, looking at a piece of paper, and at the picture of our family. I walk closer to her. "My mother wants to keep us apart, being some of the most powerful creatures." I sit next to her.
She looks up at me. "I used black magic, a death spell that I was gonna use on Landon." She says. I open my mouth in shock. "I'm scared, Annie, that I'm gonna he like-"
I laugh. "Like Dad?" She purses her lips together. "Don't worry, sister, the only way you'll be like him is if you kill millions in days." I bump my shoulder on hers, looking at the pictures. I stand up, "Youre missing one." I say, walking to the dresser.
She furrows her brows. "What do you mean?" She asks.
I wave my finger, a new picture appearing. It's a family portrait. Kol, Freya, Rebekah, Elijah, Hayley, our father, and my mom. Hope and I, 15 and 13, standing with our dad. The Klaus Mikaelson. My eyes water as I turn and look at hope. "I know you dont want to hear this, but they made that promise."
"Always and forever." She whispers, standing up as her eyes water.
"Hope, you are my sister." I say. "Today, when you came, we fought. Hell we used our magic on each other. Something Dad always told us never to do." I tell her.
She shakes her head. "Annie, please stop."
"I, as your sister, will do anything. I mean anything to protect you. I will rip apart anyone who dares to come near you."
"And I'll do the same." We grip each others hands, wind in the room causes our hair to flow behind us.
I smile. "We are Mikaelsons. The only tribrids. And we have to be there for each other. No matter what."
We speak at the same time.
"Always and forever."
