Locked

"Next Kindness Lesson!" Frisk announced. Flowey groaned.

"What method of torture are you gonna put me through today?" He asked.

"I'm gonna lock you in a room with Papyrus." They replied.

"Wait, what?!"

"Well, since you and Papyrus were kind of friends back in the Underground, I figured that maybe you can rekindle a real friendship up here." Frisk explained.

"What does his brother think of this."

"SANS IS WORKING AT ONE OF HIS JOB(S)." Papyrus explained, not at all fazed about being locked in a room with a murderous flower.

"Come on." Frisk said impatiently, taking Flowey's pot in one hand and Papyrus's hand in the other and leading into their room.

Flowey looked back as Frisk closed the door, locking it behind them.

"SO WHAT DO YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT?" Papyrus asked eagerly.

"...Do you think they'll let me out if I murder you?" Flowey asked sincerely.

"YOU WON'T DO THAT." Papyrus replied confidently.

"I might if Frisk keeps torturing me this way." Flowey said, laying flat on his pot's surface.

"BUT THEY'RE TRYING TO HELP YOU." Papyrus said.

"I can't be helped!" Flowey blurted out. "Do you know how many timelines I've lived entertaining myself by making others suffer? Do you know how many times I used you to try to get the souls? Do you know how many times I've killed someone just to see how others will react? Do you know how many times I've broken you?"

"... NO." Papyrus admitted. "BUT... I STILL BELIEVE IN YOU. I BELIEVE ANYONE CAN BE A GOOD PERSON IF THEY TRY."

Flowey looked away, having heard those words from Papyrus so many times in previous resets.

"AND BESIDES." Papyrus added. "NO MATTER WHAT YOU ONCE DID, YOU WERE STILL ONE OF MY FIRST FRIENDS. AND SINCE YOU WERE ABLE TO MEET THE INCREDIBLY HIGH STANDARDS OF THE GREAT PAPYRUS, I'M SURE THAT YOU CAN BE A GOOD PERSON."

Flowey scoffed at Papyrus's mention of "high standards".

Seeing that Flowey still wasn't convinced, Papyrus decided to take a different approach.

"IF YOU WERE ABLE TO ACHIEVE ALL THOSE OTHER THINGS YOU MENTIONED," he began, "WHO SAYS YOU CAN'T ACHIEVE SOMETHING AS EASY AS KINDNESS?"

Flowey lifted up the tiniest bit. "What are you saying?" He snarled.

"I'M JUST TRYING TO SAY," Papyrus continued. "IF YOU WERE SOMEHOW ABLE TO MANAGE ALL THOSE IMPOSSIBLE THINGS YOU MENTIONED, THEN WHY IS KINDNESS SO DIFFICULT FOR YOU?"

Flowey glared at the skeleton.

"ARE YOU... AFRIAD OF BEING WEAK?"

Flowey shot straight up at this. "I am not weak!" He growled. "I can be kind if I wanted to!"

"THEN WHY DON'T YOU WANT TO?" Papyrus asked, barely hiding his grin.

Many angry thoughts ran through the flower's head, and he wanted more than anything to decapitate the victorious skeleton with a vine, but he knew that he wouldn't solve anything that way. So he settled with an angry, "Fine!"

"FINE!" Papyrus shouted back.

"Fine!"

"FINE!"

"Fine!"

"FINE."

Frisk pressed their head to the door, a grin spreading across their face as they realized that Papyrus's persuasion had worked.
