What A Relief

I look at the text book,
I sigh.
I flip through the pages,
I cry.
The shortest chapter
Took two hours.
The longest?
Ominous, it towers
Above me, with its concepts spread
Like a looming shadow that blocks out the sun.
Oh, how I wish two days ago,
I hadn't given in to procrastination.
I labour on, ploughing through
Harvesting those rows of words,
Sowing their seeds into my mind,
Hoping they bear good rewards.
Slowly, but steadily, I reach the end,
Red rimmed eyes, chapped lips,
A throat so sore from constant reading,
Definitions on my fingertips.
I don't know if faith in my memory
Is just an irrational belief.
But, I do know that I did my best,
And I sigh, what a relief.
