Carnage
Nezuko didn't understand how this could happen. She only left for one day and... Only her older brother, Tanjiro was breathing. The rest of her family was dead, covered in blood in a disgusting sight. The oldest was also bloody but somehow still alive. Nezuko had no idea of why something like that happened to her family. All she wanted to do was vomit by seeing the gorey scenery but she had to help Tanjiro. At least, moving his body away from the corpse could make him breath fresh air instead of the blood smell all around the house. Nezuko tried. She tried her best but her brother was way heavier than her. She cried. She cried for help desperately hoping for someone to come.
Her screams for help honestly were pathetic but she couldn't bring herself to do anything more. The despair she felt was too strong to make her screams louder. Why ? Why them ? Anyone could've died but why her family ? The only thing she could get hope from was Tanjiro being alive. If he died, Nezuko would rather jump from the near cliff than stay alone without her family. So she had to keep her brother alive. Nothing felt as important as that on that moment. The thought gave her some strength to get Tanjiro on her back and walk toward the nearby village.
As she got closer, she felt a presence. Someone was watching them and she looked behind.
A young man who looked in his twenties was there. He had fair skin with dark violet eyes matching his long hair tied into a ponytail. Some big scars were covering his face and a part of his neck. As she looked down, she noticed what the man was wearing : A uniform accompanied by a purple haori with black spots all over it. But something made Nezuko uncomfortable. It was the katana the stranger had on him. It wasn't out but she was scared of what he could do with it. Maybe he was the one who killed her family.
After a long moment of silence, the man finally spoke
"Who are you ?", He said calmly.
Panic could be seen on Nezuko's face. Should she answer honestly or should she lie ? It wasn't an easy question.
"Why are you carrying a demon ?" He asked with a bit of annoyance.
The girl looked shocked by the man's statement. She tried to reply but she then felt a sudden pain on her back. It was like a wolf was trying to get on her. Nezuko knocked down her brother and tried to look at him but too late : The purple haori man already had Tanjiro behind his katana.
It didn't totally look like Tanjiro, actually. Well, his main appearance stayed the same but his hair got a orange tip, his finger nails looked like claws, his teeth became sharp... But the most shocking part were his eyes. It didn't look human anymore. He looked he crazy. He looked out of control, angry, desperate and... Hungry.
Nezuko tried to get closer to them, whining "Please... Sir... Don't kill him ! He's so good ! He couldn't harm a fly ! He is too kind to do that..."
Tanjiro's eyes looked less... Like a beast's as he heard those words.
"I am a Demon Slayer. It is my duty to kill demons no matter how many humans they have eaten. A demon stays a demon, they eat humans and you definitely aren't the one who's going to change that." He said with a bit of anger in his voice. "And crying will not help at all. It's all useless."
The girl looked at him, wiping out her tears. "I- I will make him back human again ! I won't let him kill anyone, I swear..."
The Demon Slayer looked at her with some kind of empathy and disgust at the same time. "Your words are useless, young girl. Once a human turns into a demon, there's no going back."
He sighs, unwillingly letting go Tanjiro who gave the man a headbutt. Nezuko couldn't help but feel sorry for him. Tanjiro's headbutts were one of the strongest weapons the girl knew. But now wasn't time to think about that, she had to save her brother. So she ran to take Tanjiro in her arms. The Slayer wouldn't dare kill her, she thought, so if she was like that, around the boy, he wouldn't attack. When the man got up, he looked stunned of how courageous the poor girl was, holding a demon so tight certainly wasn't something usual at all to him. And the demon... He wasn't trying to attack his sister. He was holding onto her trying to not hurt her.
Then Tanjiro opened his mouth while his eyes let out tears. Some sounds came out but it wasn't clear at all. Nezuko wondered what he was trying to do until he could say some words, pointing at the man.
"Y- You look l- like him... B- But... Not same... S- smell..." He was struggling to say those words but Nezuko wasn't sure of what he meant. Their father ? The man did have some physical similarities with him but not that much. Someone from the village ? Or the one... The one who killed their family... ? Well the Demon Slayer seemed to have a clear idea of what Tanjiro meant, unlike her. And it seemed to make him upset. He then looked at something on Tanjiro's head... Nezuko didn't understand so she waited.
The man stayed silent and Tanjiro struggled to let words come out of his mouth "Don- Don't hurt m- my ...sis...ter.." The young boy suddenly fell asleep as he ended his sentence. The stranger looked shocked and then sheathed his katana.
"... You really want to save your brother, do you ?" He whispered, looking calmer. Even a bit caring. Nezuko was surprised by his statement but answered by a sad but determined
"Of course, I do." He let out a small smile but came back with his serious face immediately.
"What are your names ?", he asked. The girl looked as serious as the man but kindly answers. "I am Kamado Nezuko. And this is my older brother, Tanjiro...
-I am Tsugikuni Michikatsu. I am going to help you and your brother from now on. But with only one condition.
-What condition ?
-Become a Demon Slayer just like me. It's the only way you'll have at least a small chance to save him, Kamado."
Nezuko was thinking. She guessed it would be a lot of work but... If she could assure her brother's survival... She would do anything for that. She calmy said
"I'll do it. I will become a Demon Slayer, Mister Tsugikuni. For my brother... Even though I might feel a lot of pain. I'll do anything to keep Tanjiro alive. He's all I have left..."
Tsugikuni nodded for answer and gently moved Nezuko away from Tanjiro to take the demon on his back. Nezuko then followed him. Her life was about to take another turning point and she accepted it. Nothing would ever be the same for Nezuko and Tanjiro but that's how destiny worked. Life was full of surprises after all.
