Chapter 29
Warning: Contains graphic descriptions.
We were taking a walk down the streets at night (armed of course) and I was doing everything I could to help make Lapis feel better. The trial ended up being rescheduled for tonight because Yellow Diamond wanted to see Steven ASAP - Prissy-ass bitch. I eventually told Lapis about Yellow Diamond putting Steven on trial, and she did not take it well. "W-what if they hurt Steven?! H-he's just a kid, Peri!" Lapis said, running her fingers through her fluffy blue hair.
"Hey...I'm sure he'll be fine, Lapis. There's no way Yellow Diamond is just gonna punish him for what his mother did...Just try and not worry too much about it, okay?" I reassured her, putting an arm around her shoulders. She wrapped her arms around herself and looked down on the sidewalk. I kissed her on the cheek, and a light blush painted her tan cheeks.
Steven's POV:
What are they gonna do to me?! These ladies are freaking me out. They all have weapons. This big lady with short blonde hair was pulling me by the arm, leading me down the hall. We arrived at a heavy steel door, and the lady opened it with ease. She shoved me into the room, knocking me onto my knees. I sat there in the center of the room, wrapping by arms around my knees as a I crouched.
I buried my face in between my knees and just tried to wake up from this horrible nightmare. I miss mom....I miss the crystal gems....I miss Lori....My older sister Lori and I were really close and I loved her so much. She was always looking out for me. But one day when I was 7, Lori never came home from school and my parents and I searched for her everywhere - but we never found her.
A few months later, I was walking down the sidewalk and found her blue bow on the ground. I've always kept that in my pocket ever since. I try to keep a positive outlook on things most of the time, but having a dead sister and mother is a little harsh on your mental and emotional state. My deep thoughts were interrupted by the door swinging open.
I look straight in the direction of the doorway, and there stood a somewhat distressed lady. She had a long nose and round glasses. She had short light blue hair that slightly drooped over her face. She was holding a briefcase and her hands couldn't stop shaking. "Hey kid! You're not Rose Quartz are you?!" she asked in a nervous tone.
"N-no, I'm her son. Steven Universe. They wanna ask me some questions about Pink Diamond..." I muttered, twiddling my fingers. "Hmm. Well we need to work on your case and we only have 5 minutes to figure it out!" she shouted, running her fingers through her hair. "B-but Rose Quartz did murder Pink Diamond...why should we lie?" I asked. "D-don't say that! Just say that you never saw what happened and they'll let you free, okay?" she explained with a nervous smile.
"But where else would I be? I'm always with the Crystal gems and all of the Crystal gems were there during the murder." I explained, looking down. The lady put her hand on her chin, looking deep in thought. "Are you like a lawyer, or something?" I asked curiously. "You could say that. I mean I defend people who have broke the gang rules or committed a crime above the gang's standards....so yes I guess so..." she explained. The door once again swings open, startling the lawyer.
"Yellow Diamond will see you now, Mr. Universe." a lady who looked a lot like Pearl stated. "GAUUUGHH!!!" the lawyer let out a distraught groan as her hands shot up, tangling into her hair. I walked out the doorway and followed the tall skinny lady, the lawyer following closely behind me. This won't turn out well...
Peridot's POV:
We continued walking down the sidewalk, and while Lapis's head was resting on my shoulder, I noticed something at the end of the street. There was an alleyway and a weird shadow presenting a figure sitting there. I stopped walking, and Lapis lifted her head off of my shoulder in question. She looked in the same direction as I was looking and noticed the figure too. "Stay here..." Lapis muttered, pulling her gun out.
"Lapis wait!" I whisper-shouted, but she was already walking off - so I followed her. Lapis slowly walked near the figure and tried getting a good look at who it was. She looked back at me, and she mouthed 'I can't see who it is' to me. I adjusted my visor to get a better look, and it looked like the dude wasn't even awake - he was probably a homeless dude sleeping.
"Lapis, we're not gonna freak out and murder some homeless guy, okay?" I whisper in Lapis's ear. "There's never any homeless people on our turf, Peri. Something's not right..." Lapis whispered back. She pulled her phone out and used the flashlight to see. We both yelled in terror as we saw the scene in front of us.
The man wasn't sleeping - he was dead! Stab marks and bullet holes were scattered across his body. There was blood literally everywhere - on him, on the ground, on the walls, and I felt like puking. Lapis's eyes were wide and she covered her mouth with her hand and stepped back. "What the hell?!" I yelped, clinging onto Lapis's arm.
Lapis looked to the right and gasped again. I looked to the right and noticed two more bodies in the alleyway in different positions. One was lying flat on their back and their intestines were spilling out of their stomach. The other one was hanging from barbed wire attached to the high wall of the closest building. I clamped my hand over my mouth and used every muscle in my body to not vomit all over.
Lapis didn't seem as disturbed as me considering she was used to this stuff, but she still seemed pretty shocked. We just stood there in silence for about 2 minutes. Leaving the flashlight on, Lapis used her phone to call a Ruby. "Ruby...I need you and your friends to come take care of these bodies. Come to the intersection of the Main Street and Beach City Boulevard, and they're right at the corners." Lapis said on the phone, and she hung up.
"What do you think happened?!" I asked, biting my nails. Lapis looked around, and noticed something in the top corners. "Cameras." Lapis stated, and she grabbed my wrist and we ran back to the gang building.
