Chapter 9. Spread Your Legs

"Take off your clothes."

"Like that?"

"Slower."

"Now, spread your legs."

My jaw dropped as Koa walked back from his kitchen with popcorn. He tilted his head at the television, then smirked at me.

"Do you like salt on your popcorn?" he asked.

I choked on my spit, coughing. "Y-Y-Yeah."

"Perfect," he said, pouring too much salt into the bowl.

Koa sat on the couch by me, clicking off the lamp behind us. His apartment was an open concept, placing his bed to the right of us. His rough palms cupped a handful of popcorn, popping it into his mouth. Koa wrapped his arm around my shoulder, bringing me closer to him.

"Yes, I love your titties bouncing when you are on top," the man on the television said.

Koa quickly grabbed the remote, clicking the channel. "Wow, I did not think that movie was a porno," he said, adding a laugh.

I smiled slightly. "I didn't mind."

Koa shook his head, laughing with a wide smile. "That was worse than a homemade one on Onlyfans."

I laughed hard, sitting on the edge of the couch. I glanced around, seeing Koa's balcony to the side of the bed. His apartment was in the heart of Seattle with a view of the Ocean. The moonlight shined into his glass doors while the white lace curtains danced in the wind. I could hear the traffic filling the apartment, horns beeping to show how angry people were while driving in heavy traffic.

The Sounders soccer game just ended while pedestrians drunkenly yelled in the streets. Koa clicked the television until the highlights of the game popped up. The Sounders won three to one as they showed Jordan Morris scoring a header.

"You enjoy soccer?" Koa asked.

I shrugged my shoulders. "What's not to like?" I smirked, wiggling my eyebrows. "Muscular fit guys running around a field while they chased a ball."

"I can't with you," Koa responded, laughing at me.

Glancing over my shoulder, I saw a door behind us. I stood up, pointing at it. "Is that the bathroom?" I asked.

Koa rotated, nodding his head. "Yep, go ahead," he said, standing up. "Do you want some water?"

"Yes, thank you," I said, opening the bathroom door.

I shut myself in the dark before clicking on the lights. Tucking my hair behind my ears, I leaned over the sink, looking at myself in the mirror. Seeing myself was still a shock, given the woman on the other side was not Scarlet anymore. I smiled at the mirror, checking my teeth, then opened the mirror to see what he had.

The television blared from outside the door. "Police found many bodies in an abandoned warehouse two nights ago. Renzo Martinez's wife, Gabriella Martinez found at the scene, arrested, and waiting for trial. Witnesses say they saw a woman in a red mask and a man in a gas mask leaving the area. Apple Red had struck again." The television stopped, silencing the bathroom.

I examined the cabinet to find a cologne bottle, toothpaste, a brush, and everything a man would have. I grabbed his cologne, spraying myself like the idiot I am. Rich, musky masculinity filled my nose.

Detective Koa Mailo decorated everything white inside his bathroom, making it look clean. The glass shower door popped sexual images into my head, letting me picture Koa showering. His all-in-one man's shampoo made me roll my eyes.

I exited the bathroom, seeing Koa on his balcony on the phone. He was pacing from one side to the other, looking down at the people below. Walking up to the door, I leaned against the trim, waiting for him to end his call. His eyes glanced at me as he held up his hand, telling me just one minute.

"Hey, we are going to need to talk about this later. I have someone over. We can finish this tomorrow morning," Koa said, scratching the back of his head and listening to the one on the other side.

The voice yelled back at him as he hung up, ignoring them. He smiled at me, leaning against the railing. The wind blew up his arm, swaying his hair into his face.

"Sorry, work," he said.

I tilted my head, pushing off the trim, and stepped into the cold outside. Trailing to him, I placed my hand next to his. With my body against the chilly rail, I bit my bottom lip. I leaned over the edge, looking at the top of people's heads.

"How did you get this apartment?" I asked, knowing he paid way too much for it.

"The department gave it to me," he replied, stepping closer. "There way of convincing me to move here from Texas."

I glanced at him. "Lucky."

He shrugged his shoulders, grabbing my hand. Koa pulled me closer, placing my palm on his hip while he grabbed my waist. His hand cupped my chin, tilting my head to face him. His thumb played with my bottom lip, leaning in.

"Are you wearing my cologne?" he asked in a whisper.

I giggled, nodding before he placed his lips on mine. My hands tightened around his hips as he danced his tongue between my lips. His mouth opened perfectly, fitting my lips with his.

Koa moaned, wrapping his arms around my torso. He bent his knees slightly, cupping his hands with my rear, lifting me up. I swaddled my legs around him, pulling away my head. My arms rested on his shoulders as he walked us through the curtains.

He placed me nicely on the bed, prompting me to crawl backward, away from him. With Koa in between my legs, he inched close to my face.

I laid back with my arms above my head as he placed his palms on my bare stomach. His fingers traced my ribs, dancing higher. Koa's lips brushed my skin, peppering under my shirt.

Sparks warmed my core, tingling shivers down low. Hitching my breath, I begged for more. His breath heated my skin, prompting me to grip the pillow above my head. I arched, stretching my back, seeing his eyes peek at me.

He smiled under his lips, kissing my stomach. His hand gripped my shirt while he leaned up, pulling it over my head. His eyes danced around my bare skin, licking his bottom lip slightly.

I quickly removed his shirt, widening my eyes at his body. He was a piece of meat to me. His perfectly sculpted abs caused my eyes to trace down each line to his belly button. My fingers brushed the fine hairs, trailing down to his boxers. His Samoan tattoo patterned up his arm over his peck with patterns of the ocean and culture. He represented his community, power and status in the markings of pride.

"Damn," I said, not believing he would be mine tonight.

Koa raised an eyebrow, touching my skin. He took my bra strap, helping it fall off my shoulder. His eyebrows arched together.

"What is this?" he asked, touching one of many scars. The one he saw happened when I was four years old when my mom let me climb a tree. Little did he know scars covered my back from when I died.

"Oh, nothing," I replied. "I have tons of them on my back," I said, knowing Koa would see them soon.

He leaned up. "What?"

"Yes, it happened before being dropped off at the orphanage," I partially lied. "But I'm not ready to get into that."

"Okay," he replied, respecting my decision, but I could tell he was overthinking everything I said.

I watched Koa's eyes follow his hand, tracing my bra over the tops of my boobs. His pointer stopped center, looping on the material.

Koa yanked me to him, laying back with me now on top of him. My knees spread apart, straddling him like a horse I am about to ride. His rough palms squeezed my sides, prompting me to grab his fingers and place them on my boobs.

His eyes widened, tightening his grip. I reached behind my back, unclipping my laced bra. His hands stayed, stopping the material from falling.

"You sure?" he asked. "Once we continue this, it will be hard to get rid of me."

Koa's face softened, watching me like I was an angel. A man that would jump into a burning building to save me. His lips parted before his mouth curled up, smiling from the heavens he escaped from.

I forced a smile back at him, realizing I would never be the woman he would ever want. Reconstructed, soulless demon numb to the love he hoped I would feel one day.

"Koa, I-"

A buzz near the front door had Koa huffing. His eyes looked away from me, then back.

"Someone is buzzing to get into the apartment," he said, lifting me up and placing me back on the bed.

Koa jumped up, jogging to the box near his front door. "Hello," he said.

"Detective Mailo, sorry to interrupt your night off, but we have been trying to call you," a female voice statically said back.

I clipped my bra back on as he glanced back at me. Smiling unpleased, I pulled my shirt back on.

Koa frowned my way before clicking on the box. "Okay, come up," he said, then buzzed her in.

I stood from his bed, glancing around for my coat. Once spotted, I rushed over, but Koa stepped in front of me. He placed his hands on mine, intertwining his fingers.

"Rory, I am very sorry," he said, forcing me to look at him. "Detective Loopen would never do this unless it was important."

I removed my hands from his. "Don't worry about it, Koa."

He tilted his head, looking sad. I pointed at the door, stepping away while grabbing my coat. He blocked my path, gripping my shirt. Koa pulled me into him, kissing me quickly.

"Meet me back here tomorrow night," he said. "I am off around five tomorrow, so anytime after that."

I smirked at him. "Only if you promise we can continue where we left off."

"I promise," he replied, letting me leave the apartment.

I followed down the hallway to the elevator. I clicked the button as the door dinged open, letting a woman off. Detective Loopen was a bombshell. She pulled her blonde hair back into a ponytail with tiny strands flowing around her heart-shaped face. She nodded her head at me before rushing by. I watched Koa's door open as she walked in, but glanced at me again before shutting the door.

The elevator zoomed down nine floors, opening once on the main level. I stepped out as the door greeter took off his hat. He smiled at me before rushing over to open the front door.

"Have a great night," he said.

I walked into the dark, letting the rain soak up my clothes. The night was loud as people roamed the wet streets, hopping from place to place. Laughter drifted around me while I tracked my way back to my apartment.
