DETECTIVE DANNI HEART
"Detective Heart, I've just revived a call from the police department. They got a call from a distressed couple, saying they heard a gun shot coming from the neighbors house. I thought you might want to check it out." My second in command, Bryan Gotti said.
"Where is the house located and who lived there?" I asked, looking over my glasses.
"The house in located on Second street, South Martel Avenue. Frank Corset lived on that street in house 2066."
"Did the couple get ahold of Frank or see him after the gun shot?"
"N-no ma'am. They saw a young man leave that house about an hour after the shot sounded."
"Any description of this man?"
"No, nothing yet."
"License plate number of the car?"
"No, nothing Ma'am."
"I'll go check it out."
I stood from my desk and grabbed my coat.
"Do you want me to come with you, Heart?" Bryan asked.
"No, I'll be fine. I'm just going to go and talk to the neighbors to get their intake on what happened."
"Be careful, Heart."
"I will."
I made my way to my 2014 black mustang and slid into the drivers seat. I arrived at the address Gotti had given me. I was met by flashing red and blue lights and several cops. Yellow caution tape outlined the permitter of the two story brick house. A young constable approached me. He had a nervous look in his deep green eyes and his hands shook from pure panic.
"Hey there, Detective Danni....t-the inside of the house is a mess....th-there's blood everywhere and there is a body.... or the remainder of one....in-in the back yard.
This guy hadn't been a on the job for too long. He's a mess.
"Have you spoken with the neighbors?"
"Y-yes ma'am. Mr. and Mrs. Ryle explained everything they know about the Frank Corset."
"I'll go and check it out."
I pulled on blue booties over my shoes and stepped in. In doing so, I entered a horror scene. Just as the constable said, blood was everywhere. Blood stained every inch of the plush white carpet, the baby blue walls, and the sofa. I kept my gun drawn as I made my way further into the house. A door further down the hallway was ajar. A trail of blood lead to the door. Gently nudging the door open, I encountered, if possible, more blood. The bathtub was filled with water, tainted with the blood. Seeing all I could stand, I made my way to the back yard. Several cops stood leaning on shovels. A black trash bag lay in the middle of them.
"Heart, this....this is sick. Who would do something like this?" One said.
I pulled on a pair of latex gloves and knelt down, pulling the trash bag open. Whoever did this knew what they were doing.
"I-I don't know. I'll go and talk with the Ryle's once I take this to the morgue."
Several of the cops nodded and turned their heads when I picked up the bag. Ignoring the uneasiness in my gut, I took the bag with Frank Corset's remains to the morgue.
