33 ➺ GIVE 'EM HELL!

DEATH GREETS ME
WARM, NOW I WILL
JUST SAY GOODBYE.

"DANIEL HAS IT?" Genevieve had to admit, she was a little amused when Lucifer explained that Dan carried the key with him, due to Amenadiel hiding it on him, and the bewildered smile on Ginny's lips only widened when she allowed herself to imagine the methods Amenadiel had resorted to in order to pull this one off.

"Apparently so. Now, whatever happens, promise me you will be careful. It's bad enough Mum has the detective, but if she hurts you...", Lucifer gulped at the thought of his Mother putting Genevieve's dagger to use, fulfilling the one purpose it had been built for. Luckily, Genevieve was quick to comfort by Lucifer by patting his cheek and kissing his lips softly, before assuring that she would come out of it alive, as long as Lucifer would too. But granted, she was a little worried and scared, because her worst enemy did now hold the only weapon that could hurt her. Still, she was trying to stay optimistic.

Besides, if there was one thing everyone knew about Genevieve, it was that she didn't turn from a challenge nor let obstacles stop her from getting what she wanted. Right now, that meant Charlotte gone.

"Woah, woah, woah!", was Dan's instant reaction when Lucifer tapped on his shoulder, before presenting Azrael's blade and shocking the detective who was quick to lift his hands in the air. "She kissed me!", Daniel tried to defend himself, and whilst Lucifer was a bit confused and willing to ignore what he was saying, Genevieve groaned at the realization that Dan meant Charlotte — the wicked bitch still had the poor man wrapped around her fingers, and even though she wasn't using Dan like Ginny had, it still made the queen angry.

"Just get your hands up", Lucifer sighed, but Dan's hand quickly went for his gun, only for Genevieve to take it and admire the weapon carefully. "Don't be silly, I'm not gonna stab you! I'm just looking for something", Lucifer scoffed, but even though Dan finally lifted his hands back in the air and the Devil could proceed to search for the key with the blade, the detective didn't seem all that convinced of their good intentions — perhaps it was because Genevieve held up his gun and whispered "Bang!" as she pretended to shoot him.

But obviously, she wouldn't do so. Well, not anymore, anyway.

Once Lucifer had located and dug the key out of Dan's pocket — which shocked the man even more — the two were ready to find Charlotte, but before Genevieve had followed her husband like the loyal wife she was trying to be, she turned over to Daniel one last time. "You deserve better than Charlotte Richards. You're a good man, Dan", she whispered with a hint of a smile pulling up her lips, and with that, Ginny turned on her heel and rushed after Lucifer, who had already found his Mother outside, standing on the pier with Chloe.

"Here it is, Mum. I have the blade and the final piece. You let the detective go, and they are yours!", Lucifer held up the blade as proof for Charlotte, whose eyes lit up at the relieving sight she had been after.

Genevieve was unsure what she was supposed to do, but she knew that Chloe needed to be gotten away from the crossfire, and that eventually convinced her to move towards the detective. With her hand extended out, Genevieve was trying to reach out to Chloe, but she couldn't make her way to the woman when Charlotte had stepped out and taken out something that Ginny had tried to forget about — her dagger. Now that it was there, she couldn't really ignore the facts, nor the lack of air in her lungs, the immense pain throbbing all over her body.

Lucifer was quick to rush to Genevieve, and as his arm wrapped around his wife's waist and pulled her back, the man gave a warning look to his Mother, who, luckily, lowered the weapon in the knowledge that Lucifer wouldn't give her the Flaming Sword if she were to kill his queen. That didn't relieve all of the pain, but as Charlotte tried to control the bloodlust stirring within her heart, and Genevieve leaned onto Lucifer for support and comfort, she could inhale the salty ocean air again, confirming that she was still more or less alive.

"No one's going anywhere!", an angry male voice then spoke up from behind Chloe and Charlotte, the latter pointing out how that had to be the mystery killer, sought by the LAPD. The people around them gasped as the man lifted a gun and directed it towards Charlotte, clearly angry at the lawyer who had, according to the guy Chloe called Hector, betrayed his family.

In any other situation, Genevieve would have encouraged the killer to pull the trigger and slay the goddess, but she knew that right now, it would merely lead into Charlotte exploding and annihilating everything and everyone around her. That was what Ginny kept in mind as she looked over to Hector, and locked her brown, deep eyes with his. "Listen, dude. I, if anyone, know what it feels like to blame someone for the misery you feel in your heart, and I know the thirst you have for vengeance. And usually, I would tell you to go for it, to make your dreams come true and kill her, but if you pull that trigger right now, we're all dead", the queen tried, and Lucifer was quickly supporting her words.

"She is right! Look, it's very difficult to explain, but believe me when I say that there are many, many lives at stake here. So, please, just put the gun down, huh?", Lucifer flashed a desperate smile, and for a second, it seemed to be working. Hector lowered the weapon in his hand, and something shifted within his eyes, but he quickly came to the realization that the urge to get revenge was too large within him, and brought the gun back up before pulling the trigger and firing at Charlotte.

As Lucifer let out a roaring "No!", Genevieve could see Charlotte turning around with the Shedevil dagger still tight in her hand, and she could tell that even though it most likely wasn't intentional, the Divine Goddess was a split second away from stabbing her own son. In the rush to get away from the bullet flying towards her, Charlotte tried to make a run for it, and as the blade neared Lucifer, Genevieve didn't know what came over her — she didn't think straight, but all she felt was the immense need to save Lucifer, protect him from the fate she had originally wanted for him, even if it meant sacrificing herself.

Without even realizing what she had done, Genevieve stepped in front of Lucifer to save him from his doom, and then, sharp pain kicked in. Gasping, Genevieve froze for a second, until she slowly looked down to find the dagger lodged in her abdomen, causing thick, red blood to spill out and drip down her waist. Lucifer didn't even realize what had happened at first, but when Genevieve slumped down to her knees and erupted into flames of hellfire, he understood that the dagger had carried out its purpose.

But as Genevieve burned in the very same fire that had created her in the beginning, she realized that it was a bittersweet sensation, and the flames licking her flesh were slow and gentle on her body. The bullet that had been launched from Hector's gun was still flying across the sky, the people rushing to safety were moving in slow motion, and the birds above them were stuck with their wings barely flapping in the air. In that moment, the queen realized that Amenadiel was working his time manipulation, and causing everything and everyone but the three of them to move slowly.

It allowed Genevieve to cheat death, and as the flames around her barely hurt, she realized that she still had a shot at vengeance, and with that in mind, she looked up at Charlotte and let her eyes gain a more devilish shade to them. "You wretched bitch", the Shedevil growled, her voice deep and low, and whilst a malicious grin twisted her lips, Genevieve jumped up and emerged from the hellfire.

Angry and vengeful, Ginny then shoved Charlotte off of the pier, before following the lead and landing on the beach below. Lucifer was quickly resting on the same warm sand, and as they all stood up and the two devils stared at the Divine Goddess, Lucifer took out the Flaming Sword and used the final piece to ignite it. Needless to say, it was beautiful, and worthy of Genevieve's gaze as Lucifer held it up in the air, and then turned to his Mother with a warning look burning in his sad eyes.

"I'm sorry, Mum. But I'm afraid that this ends now", Lucifer broke the silence between them whilst pointing at Charlotte with the Flaming Sword. "You've hurt so many people, Mum. It has to stop. You used me. Used Chloe. You—you hurt Genevieve! Stole the dagger just so you could torture her, eh? Is that it?", the Devil gestured towards Genevieve, who never let her glare drift away from Charlotte, hoping that this conversation would end with the Goddess far, far away from them.

But despite the facts being set out there, Charlotte insisted on pinning the blame on someone else. "Me? What about your father? He created Chloe just to manipulate you! Lucifer, look. We have the sword. Finally, finally, we can get revenge. We can destroy him. We can take our home back", she begged in despair, in the hope that she could still change Lucifer's mind, but clearly, it wasn't worth her while.

"I'm not leaving, Mum!", Lucifer spat, and at that point, Genevieve was having quite enough, as well.

"Okay. I can take care of it for both of us. Just give me the sword, and I'll do the rest. Please, son. I just I just want a chance to start over", Charlotte whispered, but before she could utter out a single word, Genevieve had stepped towards the Divine Goddess as intimidatingly as only possible.

Shaking her head, Genevieve gave her a deadly glare, one filled with the Killer Queen's wrath — exactly what she had promised for her. "You don't deserve it. All you've done is feed lies, manipulate your children and those closest to them. Bloody hell, you just tried to kill me! I can only imagine you've been planning that for a while", the queen spat, staring into Charlotte's eyes as she fumed, "and you hurt Linda. You once told me that everything I touch, falls apart. That the air I breathe becomes toxic. That getting involved with me is a mistake. But you, you, are far more evil and cruel, and for that, I hope you never find peace."

Lucifer then shook his head at his Mother's words, trying to find a solution that wouldn't tear apart Heaven or unleash hell in, well, Hell. "Going home? That's not starting over, that's—that's going backwards. And that's not good for anyone", he muttered, before finally realizing what had to be done. "So it's time for you to move forward, Mum. Even if it means I'll never see you again", the Devil spoke, and as Genevieve stepped back and watched her husband lift the Flaming Sword, Charlotte begged for her life.

Frankly, Genevieve would have loved to see her head roll on the sand, smell the blood in the wind, but instead of bringing his Mom to her demise, Lucifer sliced the air and created a void right next to them. Ginny had to admit, it was rather unexpected, and above all, fascinating — the sword could cut through anything, after all.

"What is that?", Genevieve whispered, and smiling carefully, Lucifer glanced at his wife before turning to Charlotte with a hopeful look in his eyes.

"It's—it's nothing. At least, for now", Lucifer nodded, "this is the real way to move forward, Mum. To create a whole new world, your own world, without Father", granting his Mother freedom, an escape, a way out. And even though Genevieve had just unleashed her anger on the Supreme Goddess, she just simply wanted her gone, and this seemed like a way, one that would satisfy them all.

It took Charlotte a while to realize that this was the only way she'd get her happy ending, but eventually, she came to terms with the fact that this could be her new, fresh start, that this emptiness, could be her paradise. And so, she stepped forward to give Lucifer a proper goodbye, her hands resting on her son's cheeks as the man chuckled softly and nodded approvingly.

"So, please, let there be light", the Devil spoke familiar words, and when the Goddess finally stepped away and allowed the light in her to be sucked into the dark void, Genevieve carefully took her husband's hand. As they watched how his Mother left the body of Charlotte Richards, their fingers intertwined and their bodies leaned on one another, feeling each other's warmth and affection.

Once Charlotte's unconscious, drained body slumped onto the beach, Lucifer took apart the Flaming Sword and tossed the pieces into the void, before it closed entirely. And then, Amenadiel's supernatural abilities came to an end, and as the people around them moved naturally again, Genevieve let out a victorious laugh and threw her arms over Lucifer's shoulders.

Sighing in relief, Lucifer held his wife in his arms, but the happiness in their hearts came to a quick halt as Genevieve's proud laughter turned into choking. Despite his strong arms, the Shedevil slipped out of his embrace and her wounds returned once again, causing her body to proceed bleeding to death.

"This is it", Genevieve whispered quietly, looking over to Lucifer as she collapsed onto the sand, "this is how I go."
