31 ➺ THE (SHE)DEVIL DRIVES

NOTHING'S FAIR IN LOVE & WAR.

GENEVIEVE STILL WASN'T a fan of Chloe, but she had taken part in saving her from the poisoning, and once again, she was agreeing to protect her. Perhaps she wasn't close friends with the detective, but when Lucifer asked Genevieve to keep an eye on her and follow her around the precinct whilst he'd lock Charlotte in his wine cellar and then hire Maze to find Amenadiel, she couldn't say no. Maybe it was because of the pleading, sad, kicked puppy look in Lucifer's eyes, or because Genevieve knew that even if she was Lucifer's wife, Chloe was his trusted ally and someone he cared about. Perhaps it was both — but nonetheless, she agreed by giving Lucifer a gentle kiss and promising that she was going to keep Chloe safe.

It was strange for Genevieve. The woman was used to being the one to inflict pain, cause harm and stir drama, but this time, she was being more of a guardian devil instead of the cruel, devious creature who wreaked havoc and destroyed lives. Still, even if it was causing some kind of discomfort to weigh down her heart, Genevieve made her way to the LAPD — with Lucifer's Corvette.

That was the deal she agreed to, as she still didn't enjoy favors. She promised to protect Chloe, and in return, she got to be the one behind the wheel for once, and after she had dropped Lucifer by the house Mazikeen and the detective shared, the queen stepped on the gas pedal and laughed out loud at the freedom she felt as she recklessly drove towards the police station.

The first thing that Genevieve did once she was inside the precinct, was something she considered risky regarding her friendship with Dan, but worth it — she stole the man's pudding from the fridge. But, she could always blame it on Charlotte if she were to be suspected of the terrible crime. Once she had gotten rid of the evidence — also known as tearing the lid off and throwing it away to avoid anyone seeing Dan's name written on it — Ginny seated herself by Detective Decker's desk, in the belief that the woman would show up as soon as she'd see someone invading her privacy.

     And she wasn't wrong.

"Genevieve, what are you doing here?", Chloe questioned, already exasperated by merely the sight of Lucifer's wife sitting there. Drawing the spoon from between her plump lips, Genevieve turned around to face the detective with an innocent look in her eyes, but it was clear that she wasn't buying it. "Is that Dan's pudding?"

Clearing her throat, Genevieve hopped off of the desk, her high heels making a click as she landed onto the floor, and then threw away the pudding she was already almost finished with. "Uh, please don't tell him. I'm kind of trying to be his... friend", the queen tasted the unfamiliar word warily, before continuing, "I thought I'd stop by, you know, spend some time with you. It seems everyone is enthralled by you, so I figured, might as well see what's so special— wait, no, that came out rude, which I am not, just so you know", Genevieve stammered as she tried to form a proper sentence — she had promised Lucifer she wouldn't tell Chloe what this was truly about, since the detective most likely shrug it off as pointless, or a joke, and she had time for neither.

"Well, I'm working, so I can't spend time with you. And what's going with you and Dan, anyway?", Chloe sighed, but despite her claims of being too busy for this, she asked a question, one that forced Genevieve to follow right behind her as she left her desk and continued to walk around the precinct.

"We never had sex, if that's what you mean. I just— needed a place to stay when I moved here, and he gave me that. We ended up arguing and he kicked me out, but now I'm trying to make amends and I suppose it's working", Genevieve smoothly lied — well, not really, but she left out all the devilish details that Chloe wouldn't believe, nor have time for. Still, her explanation was enough for the woman to turn around and face Ginny with narrowed eyes, and after she had stared at her for a while, Chloe simply shook her head and continued walking.

"You know, you and Lucifer a lot alike", she muttered quietly, but loud enough for Genevieve to hear.

"And you remind me a lot of Dan. Except that you actually get along with Lucifer and have a lot more spark in you. And of course, Dan is hotter. Not that I wouldn't like to show you a few moves, too", the queen then winked, and sighing yet again, Chloe stopped walking once the two had reached one of the interrogation rooms. The detective opened the door, but before she could head inside, she rested against it and shot Genevieve a look, one that she had trouble reading.

"You're really strange, Genevieve. Very confident, cocky and smug. Everything I'm, well, not. But even though we might not stand eye to eye on everything, you seem to make Lucifer happy. There was a time when he was really depressed and I couldn't help, but you pulled him out of that darkness. And I think it's really great he has you in his life", Chloe nodded with a smile, and surprised by this, Genevieve stared back at her with wide eyes and her smile fading away. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have someone to interrogate. Bye, Genevieve", the blonde added, and before the Shedevil could say a single word, she had disappeared into the room and shut the door behind her.

Genevieve shuffled on her feet, unsure how to react. She was so rarely told how great she was, or how people were lucky to have her in their lives — with the exception of Lucifer, of course, and the many people of all genders which she had charmed. But all those people, except Lucifer, she had forced to love her, none of it was genuine. She was used to everyone hating her, so hearing those kind of words from Detective Decker was odd, but somewhat relieving, and filled her heart with the happiness she was slowly getting accustomed to.

A ping from her pocket snapped Genevieve out of her thoughts, and quickly, she reached for the phone with a new text message shining on the screen. It was from Lucifer, who was informing his wife that Maze had successfully located and grabbed Amenadiel, and they were all now in Lux, plotting how they should proceed and how to get the key from his brother.

Sighing, Genevieve turned on her heel and started to walk away from the precinct, her hips swaying as she strutted outside and hopped back into the black, shiny Corvette she was more than glad to drive towards her husband's nightclub.

—————

THROWING THE KEYS to the valet, Genevieve stepped out of the Corvette and adjusted her dress before taking the first step towards the entrance of the club. However, she didn't get very far when one of the men waiting in line stepped in front of her, earning a surprised, judging look from the queen who stopped to look down at the slightly shorter stranger, grinning at her with a flirtatious look in his eyes.

"Who do you think you are?", Genevieve spoke with amusement, in the knowledge that there was nothing he could say to impress the Shedevil, who simply wanted to walk past him and go inside Lux to her husband, but instead, she stood there and crossed her arms. Frankly, she was entertained by humans' attempts to charm her, because they didn't know the truth — you didn't charm Genevieve, she charmed you. With the exception of Lucifer, but fair enough, he was the Devil and clever as one, and her husband since she was born.

"I can be anything you want, honey", the man flashed a smile he apparently believed to attract women, but instead, it earned a roll of eyes from Genevieve before she leaned down at him and pursed her painted lips in a sarcastic smile.

     "How about dead?"

The man's confident smile faded, and that encouraged Genevieve to finally push past him and strode indoors. One of the perks of being a queen and Lucifer Morningstar's wife was the ability to skip the rather long line outside, and simply waltz into the club, with the bouncers opening the doors for her with a small bow. In return, she flashed an irresistible smile, one that she knew shook their worlds.

Inside, Genevieve didn't waste time getting a drink or adoring the wild dancing under the neon lights, she just headed upstairs to Lucifer's penthouse in the belief that she would find her husband, Mazikeen and Amenadiel waiting for her there. And she was almost correct, as she stepped out of the elevator, and came face to face with Lucifer and Amenadiel, but no soul-torturing demon.

Lucifer reacted at the sight of his wife in the only reasonable way — by walking over to her and placing his hands on her cheeks before pressing a gentle kiss on her forehead. Then, as his fingers played with her black hair, he looked down into her eyes whilst a small smile danced on his irresistible lips. "The detective is fine, I assume? And you?", the Devil wondered, and when Genevieve nodded as an answer to both of his questions, his smile widened a little.

"Where's Maze?", Ginny questioned as she looked around the penthouse, only to come to the conclusion that the demon wasn't there. Frankly, she was a little surprised by this newfound sympathy she carried for her, but perhaps it was alright to not hate her for a change.

"Fetching Mum from the wine cellar. Meanwhile, our job is to convince Amenadiel to give us the bloody key!", Lucifer groaned, turning to face his brother with frustration replacing the fond smile on his features. However, he did make an effort to push his lips into a convincing grin, and even though it made Genevieve smile slightly, Amenadiel wasn't sold in the slightest, and merely shook his head whilst he stood from the couch he was seated on and approached Lucifer with a rant waiting on the tip of his tongue.

"Father doesn't always make things clear, because he wants us to form our own beliefs. And I strongly believe that I am to guard that piece. Now, I may have lost my way, but that doesn't mean that I can't rectify things now", Amenadiel explained, clearly blinded by what Genevieve believed to be his Father's manipulations, nothing more. The angel was glowing with inspiration, his eyes full of hope and his lips curved into a happy smile, but that didn't discourage Lucifer, nor Genevieve, who offered a sigh at the man's foolish beliefs.

"Fine. What if I was to tell you I never planned on destroying Dad?", Lucifer grinned whilst his hand offered Genevieve the drink he had quickly poured, and in the need of one, the queen accepted it and took a quick swig of the glass. And when Amenadiel refused to believe Lucifer, she finished the whole drink. "Yes, I want to assemble the sword, yes, I want to cut through the gates, blah, blah, but then I was just gonna kick Mum into Heaven and slam the gates behind her! Let the two lovebirds torture each other for eternity!", Lucifer then continued, and standing by his side, Genevieve was going to support her husband until the end, firmly and bravely.

"C'mon, Amenadiel! I was starting to tolerate you, bro. You know, just as well as we do, that they deserve it. Both of them have done nothing but manipulate, torture, toy with you, use you. He is simply doing it again — trying to buy your loyalty and take advantage of the faith you are so blindly willing to sacrifice for Him", Genevieve responded with passion — it was obvious she had never truly forgiven God, nor Charlotte, for what they had done to Lucifer or the rest of the angels. She didn't really care about the others, but it was more proof that they were cruel and undeserving of Amenadiel's trust and alliance.

"And what about you, Genevieve? Are you saying you didn't come to Earth to get revenge on Luci? That you didn't lie to him and hurt him? That you didn't use and manipulate people?", the angel fought back, however, but Lucifer was quickly defending Ginny by stepping in and giving his brother a warning look. "The answer is no!", Amenadiel then continued, "regardless of whether you're with Mom or not, I simply can't let Mom loose on Dad. Now, it is finally time that I go back to being the loyal soldier that he entrusted me to be. Mom is not going anywhere!"

"Well, I am afraid that we do not have a choice, brother! Mum's powers are returning, and it won't be long before we can't contain them. I mean, she's already killed one person, and now the detective is on a the detective is on her case. So, please, no discussion. Mum has to go!", Lucifer spat, unwilling to stand down and give up.

Before the two could argue anymore, the elevator made a familiar ping and Maze appeared, earning their attentions, not only with her presence but with six words that managed to terrify, frustrate and anger them all equally.

"She already has", the demon interjected, "your mother's gone."
