25 ➺ ...IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS
❝I COULD DRAG YOU FROM THE
OCEAN, I COULD PULL YOU FROM
THE FIRE, AND WHEN YOU'RE
STANDING IN THE SHADOWS, I
COULD OPEN UP THE SKY.❞
"THAT'S NOT POSSIBLE."
Genevieve was sure of that — there was no way God was actually on Earth, in a mental institution where Lucifer had met Him, but the Devil seemed rather hellbent on proving his wicked wife wrong. His determination was causing Genevieve to doubt her words and the confidence within her heart, but the idea of Lucifer's Father actually bothering to come down to His little playground sounded absurd and too hard to believe. Luckily, Lucifer had promised to deliver proof for his words.
"Right, the plan is, we get committed into this hospital and then confront God Johnson, alright?", Lucifer turned to Genevieve, who was surprised by the plan she had not signed up for, but the curiosity in her was far too large to ignore. Therefore, she nodded, and smiling, Lucifer stepped towards the information spot at the entry with his usual confidence. "Hello", he began with his signature tone, charming as always, "I'd like a suite for two for the evening, please. Preferably one with a view", a chuckle then escaped Lucifer's lips as he glanced at Genevieve, before turning his gaze back to the man behind the glass.
Sadly, the man seemed to disagree with their stupid plan. "Are you joking? This is a psychiatric hospital", he spoke with a monotone voice, earning a roll of eyes from Genevieve who was already getting bored. She just wanted to meet this man pretending to be God, not discuss these worthless facts with someone who clearly hated his job.
"Apologies, I'm skipping ahead. Uh, I am, the one and only, Lucifer Morningstar", Lucifer introduced himself proudly, but failed to move the clerk in any way. "The Devil? Dark Lord? Oh, for goodness' sake— Beelzebub?", he tried, "and this is my wife, Genevieve Morningstar — the Shedevil. Killer Queen. Princess of Darkness!", but none of his attempts were working. Frankly, it seemed like their plan was failing, but that was simply because Ginny hadn't made an effort to make it work yet.
Pushing Lucifer aside, Genevieve grabbed the clerk from his collar and pulled his face into the glass, surprising both of the men in her presence. "As you can see, I am dangerous and unstable. Now, if you don't get us that room, I'll start by breaking your fingers and then picking off your nails. One by one", the queen let her lips curl into a seemingly innocent, sweet smile, but it was intimidating and threatening enough for the man to agree into accepting them in the hospital.
"Lovely! Well done, Gen", Lucifer just cheered from aside, and in return, Genevieve flashed a sarcastic smile.
If it was really God in there, she needed to see it with her own eyes, and give the man good, hard slap on the face.
—————
GENEVIEVE WAS SKEPTICAL as she looked around the hospital she had joined with Lucifer — not because she had anything against the mentally ill, but because she feared her presence there was a complete waste of time, when she could have been torturing people and going after the dagger. But, she was also someone who never walked away from a challenge or risky situations, which was why she was willingly sitting beside Lucifer at a table, surrounded by a group of patients who were all engaging in an invisible, imagined game of poker.
"There He is", Lucifer leaned closer to his wife, his voice a husky whisper as he nodded towards the man seated on a chair in the dark corner of the room, "that's Him." Genevieve didn't know what she had expected, but she found herself staring into the piercing blue eyes of a ruggedly handsome man, donning a full beard and relatively long hair. Ginny had to admit, there was a strange vibe radiating from him and the creepy stare that forced the demon to look away in discomfort, but she wasn't all that convinced just yet.
"Shall we go pay Him a visit, then?", Genevieve suggested, and with that, she stood up from her seat, which prompted Lucifer to do the same. One of the patients by the table instantly followed the lead and jumped up to both feet, before making a small bow and stepping aside so Genevieve could walk past, an obedient smile shining on his lips as he lowered his head.
"My Queen", the patient acknowledged Genevieve with the utmost respect, which instantly made the woman smile and shoot him a dashing smile as a thank you for the kindness. However, Lucifer wasn't satisfied at all, and as they walked past the man, Genevieve could hear her husband mutter something along the lines of "I'm afraid the queen already has a king", which, frankly, only widened Ginny's satisfied grin.
The two royals began to stride towards God Johnson, but before they could reach the man, someone catapulted a pair of underwear at them, and as Genevieve flawlessly dodged the incoming surprise, they landed onto Lucifer's face. The queen snorted at the sight as Lucifer stopped and slowly understood what had happened, and whilst Genevieve's innocent chuckle developed into profoundly pleased laughter, the man pulled the underwear from his face and gave a completely unamused stare back at his wife.
It was rather funny, but when the situation was over and the couple tried to locate God Johnson from the room again, they were faced with wonderful disappointment due to the man's absence. Luckily, neither one was discouraged by the slight challenge presented to them, and hand in hand, Genevieve and Lucifer headed out of the room and proceeded to wander the long, quiet hallways of the psychiatric hospital.
"Oh my— you know what. There he is!", Genevieve hissed, pointing towards a door with a small glass window on it, allowing the married couple to see God Johnson through it. Not only was he in a place none of them should have been, but he was also seemingly attacking a woman, with his hand gripping her throat and causing her to choke out as her toes grazed the floor desperately. In any other situation, Genevieve wouldn't have cared about the woman's fate or if someone was feeling up to a little murder, but the idea of having God himself come down to Earth and play the latest suspect in Detective Decker's case was outrageous.
And as long as Genevieve could do anything about it, she wasn't going to let Him do so.
With Lucifer in the lead, the two rushed into the room and the Devil was the one to pull God Johnson away from his victim, causing the woman to collapse onto the floor. Ginny wasn't sure what to do — helping wasn't natural for her, so instead of kneeling down beside the nearly unconscious woman to see if she still had a shot at survival, the queen merely stared down at her bleeding body and felt the death in the air.
However, the moment took a surprising turn when Mr. Johnson stepped back towards the woman on the floor, and insisted that he needed to save her. As if he hadn't just brutally murdered her.
But perhaps he hadn't. Because as he placed his hands on the dead woman's neck and focused hard, the blood spilled onto the corpse and the floor started to move, and slowly but surely, all of it sucked back into the wound on her throat. Genevieve was at a loss of witty quips and sassy remarks — all she could do was stare as the woman jolted back to life with a gasp whilst the cut on her throat closed and her skin regained its lively color. God Johnson had... healed her.
Frankly, it seemed to throw Lucifer off the same way it did Genevieve, but whereas the woman was warily staring at the supernaturally gifted man, in a state of doubt and disbelief, a somewhat relieved smile descended onto her husband's features as he looked over to the man he now believed to be his Father.
"It really is you", Lucifer broke the eerie silence in the dim, cold room, causing God Johnson to return the soft smile as they looked at one another. But before Lucifer could allow his Father to believe it was going to be a happy reunion, he had continued with, "you... son of a bitch", his voice turning more hostile and venomous as the fondness in his eyes hardened into anger and pure hatred.
And with that, Lucifer leaped forward, his fist coming into contact with God Johnson's face in a brutal, violent punch straight to the nose.
—————
AFTER LUCIFER HAD updated Detective Decker on the case, which he had decided to work with Genevieve from the inside — this did not please Chloe in the slightest, but Lucifer being Lucifer, the man managed to convince her to let them continue — the devilish couple was determined on approaching God Johnson yet again, for more answers this time. And well, one in particular — Lucifer yearned for an apology, and in the belief that he deserved nothing less, Genevieve joined her husband as the Devil sneakily made his way to his Father's room.
Once the two had quietly entered the room — not quietly enough for God to disregard their arrival, though — Genevieve shut the door before crossing her arms and allowing the gaze in her eyes to harden into a stern stare, one that she shamelessly directed towards God in the belief that He wasn't deserving of her good side. In fact, not many people were — Lucifer was almost exclusively the one and only, but whereas she tolerated some people, God was one she had nothing but utter revulsion for.
Scoffing at the sight of his Father, and the smug smile on His lips, Lucifer nodded, before parting his own lips to allow the bitter words escape. "I'll give you one chance to apologize", he instantly made it very clear what he was there for, yet God had to complicate things, as if He wasn't aware of what Lucifer meant.
"Apologize? You punched me", God Johnson reminded Lucifer with a hint of amusement in his voice, which clearly frustrated the Devil, and for that, Genevieve stepped forward.
"Right, about that", the queen tilted her head to the side whilst a malicious smile curved her painted lips upwards, and before God could question her intentions, Genevieve had given Him a good, proper slap, her palm whipping Him across the face as anger twisted her face into a scowl.
Not too long ago she had been the one to torment Lucifer and put him through all kinds of hells, but his Father was the one that started it all — he exiled Lucifer, forced him to rule Hell and be the person he never meant to be. Frankly, the only remotely good thing that had come out of His actions, was the motivation Lucifer got to create Genevieve, giving the Shedevil life. Now that he had her, Ginny was standing loyally by his side and doing everything and anything to help Lucifer and protect him from the evil in the world. And in Genevieve's opinion, when the two were weighed, God was far more twisted and cruel than His fallen son.
"Yes, as you can see, I have Genevieve with me now. My devilish queen, who, clearly, won't allow any disrespect for either of us", Lucifer nodded proudly towards his wife, who simply flashed a smile at the both of them. "Well, I may have struck the latest blow, but that is only in response to the litany of offenses that you, dear old Dad, have bestowed upon me", the Devil then continued, his hands pushing deep into his pockets as he eyed God Johnson angrily, a dry smile on his lips whilst he spoke.
Nodding, God rubbed His aching cheek where Genevieve's handprint was still visible, along with the scratches her long nails managed to leave. "So you believe me? Good", was His simple response, before going in another direction, headlong towards the very disrespect Genevieve had zero tolerance for. "Tell me, just what is it you think I've done?", He questioned, a small smile lingering on His lips whilst He stared at Lucifer, who broke into completely offended laughter straight away, incredulous that God would even ask such a thing.
Wasn't it obvious?
"Oh, going there, are we? Right, let's see — um, casting me into Hell for eternity because you haven't got the balls to get your own cowardly hands dirty! Manipulating me with the detective, giving me the illusion of control— you are a patronizing, sinister, helicopter parent! Every bad thing that's happened throughout eternity is your doing, not mine. It's all part of God's plan!", Lucifer ranted, every angrily spat word taking him closer to his Father, who still, despite Lucifer's lashing out, remained cool and calm. Even under the massive pressure that was being cast onto him, God managed to twist His son's words, make him the villain, force meaning behind the name Devil.
"Even Mum's coming here and manipulation of me was part of it. I'm surprised you haven't used Genevieve as well, turned my own wife against me", Lucifer shook his head, clearly distraught, his feelings turned inside out and his heart forced to spill onto the surface. He so rarely showed this kind of emotion with so much force, and now that he was finally face to face with the worst of his enemies, it was eating him from within. Genevieve could see it, and all she yearned to do, was take Lucifer's hand and offer him the comfort he desperately needed.
However, at the mention of Lucifer's Mother, God's face dropped and He had to take a seat by the window, knocked down by the shock that suddenly landed onto His heart. If He even had one — Genevieve wasn't sure. But there was some kind of affection in His voice as He talked about the Divine Goddess and how they had met, only for Lucifer to snap out of it and pull the focus back to the matter at hand — himself.
"Much as I'm enjoying this trip down memory lane, I want an apology— nay, I demand penance. You must atone for what you've done", Lucifer's voice was starting to falter as the storm in his eyes rose, the fire in them crackling when the familiar, brown shade in them flickered with red for a second. In that moment Genevieve knew that the emotions in him were stirring so hard they were spilling over the edges of his heart, which could only take so much.
But, naturally, God had no intentions to allow Lucifer the comfort of what he desired. "Now that's not the Samael I remember", He pointed out, earning a growl from Genevieve, whose own eyes began to turn red in the anger she was feeling strong within her own heart.
"No, Dad, this is who you made me when you cast me away!", Lucifer yelled in despair, hurt visible on his face. "Now apologize!", a growl rose from his throat as he leaned threateningly towards his Father, his eyes burning bright red.
But then, the door creaked open, and a careful, "Uh, Lucifer?", earned their attentions, causing both Lucifer and Genevieve to turn to see who had entered the room. And it was none other, than Dr. Linda Martin herself.

okay, little less genevieve and a bit more following the episode in this chapter, but it was far too important to skip. personally i think this was huge for lucifer, which is why genevieve is there for and with him, but also stays more in the background as emotional support. she may be a (drama) queen but she respects lucifer and isn't going to steal the spotlight on this one (:
also, if you guys are wondering why i've sometimes written him or Him regarding god johnson, i wasn't really sure how to do it, but basically: when talking about him as a man they are seeing, as mr. johnson, it's just him. and when ginny doesn't believe it's actually Him, i've written just "him", but when they think it's god, it's Him. does that make any sense?
anyway, i hope it didn't bother you too much and that you liked the chapter! xx
