05 ➺ ABANDON HOPE

DON'T WANNA TOUCH YOU,
BUT YOU'RE UNDER MY SKIN,
I WANNA KISS YOU, BUT YOUR
LIPS ARE VENOMOUS POISON.

A LOUD CRASH echoed throughout Lucifer's penthouse as the man was thrown into the wall and the bottles resting on the glass shelves came down to the floor where they shattered into sharp, deadly shards. However, instead of using them as weapons, Genevieve was quite alright with the literal magic she harbored, and the dark waves erupting from her palms were doing one hell of a job at tossing and throwing her husband around the room. She was quite the fighter, but so was Lucifer — that was why she soon found herself on the floor, grunting as her human body collapsed and met the thin layer of dust covering the floorboards. But instead of winning Genevieve, Lucifer only made her more eager with his attempts to shut the Shedevil's sassy mouth.

"We do like it rough, don't we?", she broke into an evil grin as she opened her palm to reveal a ball of fire forming against her skin, the flames crackling in the air as she directed it towards Lucifer.

Clearly, he wasn't too happy about their reunion, and that was precisely what Genevieve had hoped for. The sole reason for her arrival to Earth was the desire to torment Lucifer and give him her pain, and all the suffering she only had to shed. That, along with a hint of curiosity, had kept her in the land of the living, and at last, she was getting some action. Frankly, she had hoped to remain hidden and keep her identity secret for a while longer, but now that it had come out to light, the thrill that came with the possibility to fight and be herself again was absolutely breathtaking. And the look on Lucifer's face?

     Priceless.

"You've made a bloody mistake coming here, Gen. What do you want?", the Devil spat angrily after successfully dodging the fireball that flew from Genevieve's palm into the wall where it burned a hole before disappearing into a cloud of black smoke. His eyes lost their red shade — the one that always made Ginny's heart thunder in her chest and her lips curve even higher — as his expression softened from wrath to despair, as if he just wanted Genevieve gone. And perhaps that wasn't so far from the truth, after all. However, the queen had no intentions to leave Earth anytime soon.

Rolling her eyes in disappointment, she blew out the new fireball rising on her hand. "Isn't it obvious? I want revenge. And you of all people should know that when I want something, I will get it no matter what the cost or consequence", Genevieve grinned wickedly, before breaking into ominous laughter that clearly seemed to frustrate Lucifer. The man sighed deeply whilst seemingly giving up — with a lack of interest in fighting, Lucifer stepped away from Ginny and walked towards the shattered bar counter where, miraculously, some bottles still remained, which he was quick to open and pour into a chipped glass.

"First my Mum and now this? It truly isn't my week", he muttered to himself, but loud enough for Genevieve to catch the bitterly whispered words, and truthfully, she was rather surprised.

"Your Mother?", she spoke with disbelief, and at last, Lucifer's gloomy expression faded for one second which he spent chuckling in a sarcastic manner.

"Oh, please. As if you don't know. If anything, I'm convinced you two Shedevils are working together to mess with my head and ruin everything I have achieved on Earth", he laughed shortly, his voice devoid of amusement, as he continued to sip on the desperate attempt at a drink.

Vividly upset that he would even say such a thing, Genevieve stepped towards her husband threateningly as her eyes flared in a similar manner that his occasionally did. "I am the one and only. She may only wish to ever rise to my level", the queen growled, her hand smoothly wrapping around Lucifer's tie and pulling him closer until he could smell her perfume and see his own reflection in her bright red eyes. For a second, they stayed like that — him wondering if he should fight back, and her staring at him in a domineering manner — but eventually, her eyes faded back to normal and the fury on her features transformed into wonder. "I did not know she fled Hell, though. But I do like it. More trouble for you, Luci", her lips eventually curled into that usual smile.

Sighing, Genevieve dropped her intense hold on her husband's tie and after eyeing his body briefly, the woman stepped towards the elevator. "Let me know when you're ready to skip the foreplay, darling. I'll be plotting your demise and unhappiness in the meanwhile", she directed Lucifer one last grin, and with that, she left the penthouse.

And Lucifer, well, he was unsure about a lot of things but he did know that the women in his life were much too complicated.

—————

THE FOLLOWING DAY, Genevieve elected to spend more time with Dan in order to find out everything she failed to get from Lucifer due to the Devil figuring out who she really was — even if Detective Douche seemed like an incredibly dull person to befriend, but nonetheless, when the day had barely begun, the queen found herself sitting in an outdoor café with Dan. Sunglasses were covering her brown eyes, and the tune of a song playing from the nearby speakers were encouraging her finger to tap against their small table in a manner that almost drove Dan insane, but he was unable and unwilling to complain or defy Genevieve in any way.

"What can I get you two lovebirds?", a waitress stepped out with a wide smile smacked across her face, and doubting if the woman was quite serious, Genevieve directed a disgusted glare towards Dan. However, she had to admit, even if his life was far too mundane for her taste, he was rather handsome. And owned a gun. Therefore, Genevieve allowed the waitress to live despite her inaccurate assumption about their relationship, and just decided to order some food — which, she had grown to deeply love.

"Yes...", Genevieve exhaled, "I'll have some Pop-Tarts, thank you very much", before shooting the waitress an intent gaze. However, her order was shot down before she could even flash one of her charming smiles, by the waitress who just awkwardly stared back at the queen.

"We—we don't serve Pop-Tarts, ma'am", she responded nervously, glancing at Dan, who seemed equally scared of what was going to happen next.

Lowering her sunglasses, Genevieve glared at the waitress in a truly unhappy manner. "In that case, your restaurant is a waste of space. Leave us", she spat angrily, but instead of obeying her demands, the waitress merely turned to Dan to take his order. However, before the detective could even part his perfectly soft lips, Genevieve had spoken up yet again. "Leave us, or I will gouge out your eyeballs with this fork and make you eat them", the queen grabbed the cutlery from the table, and finally, the woman reacted by jumping and then rushing away from Genevieve and Dan, causing the latter to give Ginny a shocked stare.

"Was that necessary?", the detective whispered, his eyes widening as he leaned over the table towards Genevieve, who responded by meeting him in the middle.

"Well, I suppose not", she mumbled, but before Dan had the time to believe his words had had some kind of an effect on her, Genevieve added with a grin, "but it would have been fun", which just convinced him that there was simply nothing he could do to change her violent habits.

The two spent a short moment in utter silence, formed by Genevieve's lack of interest in keeping up a conversation and Dan's fear of doing something wrong, which would result in his death. But even if Ginny would rather be with someone more handsome, taller, richer, she had to admit that Daniel wasn't all that bad, and that she needed him. She needed his knowledge and the connections he had to Lucifer, and especially now that Genevieve had lost the element of surprise due to revealing herself to the Devil, she couldn't afford to lose the detective. Therefore, she had no intentions to brutally murder Dan, even if she was known to be rather shameless and merciless.

"So, tell me, Daniel...", Genevieve eventually spoke up as her body leaned over the table and her eyes met the man's in quite the seductive manner. "What do you know about Lucifer's mother?", the queen wondered whilst her lips curved into a curious smile, one that Dan could barely resist, which earned a sigh from him — how did he end up in this situation? And more importantly, why couldn't he walk away from it? Why didn't he want to, even though he knew he should have?

"I know he's mentioned her a couple of times. Thinks she's a murderer. He doesn't seem very happy about having her back, apparently — so I've heard, at least. But I really don't know that much", Detective Douche explained with a casual shrug lifting his shoulders, and his wonderfully simple answer earned a glare from Genevieve, but it made sense — Lucifer didn't seem very fond of the man. But there had to be someone.

     "Then who might?"

Dan grew visibly uncomfortable at the question, and it made Genevieve smile in the certainty that he had a name on the tip of his tongue, just waiting to slip from between his plump lips. Knowing that he simply needed a push in the right direction, Genevieve gently took a hold of his jaw and pulled him closer, until their lips were merely inches away and she could look deeply into his eyes, which finally made him break. "Chloe, my ex-wife. They're partners. But, please don't hurt her—", the detective started to panic once he realized that he had told Genevieve the one thing he was trying to keep in, but before he could finish, the queen had pushed her lips onto his.

It wasn't a romantic kiss, but it was a passionate one. Not a long one either, just a fleeting moment that made Dan forget all about the worries forming in his head, but quite enough for him to fall under her spell yet again. "Not to worry, Detective Espinoza. I don't intend to hurt her", she assured with a smile once she pulled away from the man again, "not yet, at least."

"Why can't I walk away from you? Why do I keep on coming back to you? Why—why do I let you live with me?", Dan stammered as his eyes widened and his fingertips briefly touched his kissed lips, where the feeling of Genevieve's still lingered, the taste of her lipstick impossible to shake away from his thoughts. His confusion made Ginny chuckle, though, and giggling at his weak reaction, the queen leaned back in her chair and lifted an eyebrow at the disoriented detective.

"Is that what you truly want?", she smirked, knowing very well what his answer would be — and indeed, he ended up shaking his head after considering it for a while. "As much as it pains me to admit, I need you, detective. And you need me. Who else would keep you company on all those lonely, lonely nights?", Genevieve pushed her bottom lip into an irresistible pout, and somehow, it made sense in Dan's mind. It felt right, and he believed in her words with his entire existence even if he shouldn't have. He was right to resist, because Ginny was poison snaking her way into his system and the longer she'd stick around, the harder it would be to ever fight back, and the deeper he'd end up falling. And sometimes, people never climbed back up from the void of hopelessness and despair that Genevieve could easily create.

Sighing, Genevieve twirled the fork in her hand again, and as her eyes met her twisted reflection in the metal, she broke into a smirk. "Now why don't I pay this Chloe Decker a visit?", she thought out loud, and with that, she smacked the fork into the table so hard the spikes dug through the wood.

She would no doubt have plenty of fun meeting this detective that Lucifer seemed so fond of.
