"Morning, Adeline." Harris said to the half-German girl as she rubbed her eye, getting rid of the tiredness. "How'd ya sleep?" She smiled sweetly at that. "I slept good, Harris." Adeline sat up, her white tank-top and black shorts being revealed from the black thin blanket. "Glad to hear it, Ade."
"I gotta go on patrol, any interest in coming with?"
"Sure, why not?"
"Cool, you got ten minutes to get ready."
"Alright, get out so I can be decent."
He walked out of her room to let her get dressed. "Hm.. what to pick.. the white dress with little pearls.. or the red dress with black lace..."
She mumbled softly, looking at the two dresses in her hands.
The first dress was a lily petal white, with spaghetti straps and a open back, a knife-pleated skirt with little pearls on it.
The second dress was a blood red, with puffy sleeves and a closed back, an A-line skirt with ebony lace.
After looking at them, she made her choice. "I'll wear the red one." She placed the white dress back in the closet and put on the red dress, pairing it with cute black sandals with red rhinestones.
"I'm ready!" She called out to Harris. He walked in the room. "Good, your wearing something comfortable. Let's get goin'!" They both exited the building, going down the same sidewalk.
"Oh, there's more people around today."
"They're getting too comfortable just because the past few days have been peaceful."
"Maybe the murderer has just moved to another town?"
"Don't you go getting too comfortable like these idiots."
"I just wish to get back to my classes, Harris."
"I'm sure we'll get things up and running again soon. After all, ya got me on the case!"
"Somehow, that really doesn't make me feel better."
"Very funny, Adeline. Get in the car, we're going around town."
They both got into Harris's car and drove around town, stopping at a alleyway. Harris stepped out of the car first then Adeline joined him, the skirt of her dress swishing slightly. "This is where the killer was last spotted, according to an anonymous source." He told her.
"This is DEFINITELY where I would hang out if I was a criminal too." She agreed, looking around with uncertainty.
"Precisely. We got reports of a man with pure white skin with scars on his face scurrying around here. Sound familiar?"
"Yes, that's him."
"Usually, serial killers are uncomfortably normal looking. At least this guy has the decency to look like a monster."
"A monster?" A voice called out, causing Adeline to freeze up.
That voice.. she KNEW that voice.. it couldn't be..!
"I think I'm quite beautiful, actually." Then.. the killer stepped out as Adeline softly gasped.
No.. it can't be..!
"J-Jeff...? Your the killer..?!"
"You! Hands where I can see 'em!"
"Put that useless gun away. It can't hurt me."
"Adeline, Get out of here!"
That name caused him to turn around to face the German.
Oh Adeline.. you've grown into such a pretty woman..
"No, let her stay. She's much more beautiful than you."
"Don't get near her! Hands above your head or I shoot."
"Try it."
He shot Jeff.
"Wha-?"
"Aiming for my leg? How cute."
"I can't kill a suspect for no reason, genius."
"How about I go for your precious girlfriend?"
Jeff charged at her as she dodged, landing on her feet like a cat.
"Watch it, jerk!"
"What... I got him right in the head though."
"Like I said, useless."
"HE! Next time you wanna demonstrate something, leave me out of it!" She snapped at him, less than pleased as He laughed.
"Sorry, sweetheart, but it was the only way to prove my point. Anyways, I only came here to tell you to give up. Nothing can be done about me. I'll massacre your whole school if I feel like it. Look forward to seeing me again, Adeline."
He then ran away, leaving a shocked Adeline and Harris who watched as he disappeared. "I'm.. I'm never gonna graduate..!"
A few hours later, they went back to Adeline's dorm. "God, what a clusterfuck.. I'm in over my head. I gotta go back to the station and report this. Adeline... stay here and be safe, ok?"
She nodded, the shock evident in her eyes..
Jeff.. what happened to you..? You didn't always act like this.. oh, I wish I knew what happened to you that caused you to behave like this! I just want my childhood friend back!
Those thoughts ran through her mind. Harris left her room, closing the door behind her. "...Should I study... or listen to podcasts to get my mind out from what just happened..?" She was thinking about her choices until she settled on an option.
"I suppose my work can be finished another time, I'll set a reminder on my phone to do it." She grabbed her laptop and began typing on one of her favorite podcasts on Spotify, Filthy Ritual and plugged in her headphones, hitting play. She smiles as she listened to the first episode.
A few hours later, she finishes the episode and turned off her laptop. "My goodness, that was refreshing!" She whispered underneath her breath, adrenaline coursing through her veins. That was then she heard loud thumping noises.
".....What the heck was that sound? That isn't Harris.. he would just knock. Oh god, please don't tell me it's..."
"Me!"
"HOW?!?"
Adeline was shocked. How in the world did he get inside her room?! "Mere walls can't keep me out!" He said to her before she grabbed her stapler at him and threw it.
He dodged it.
"Hey!"
"OUT!"
"Let me talk, Adeline!"
"OI, Halte meinen Namen aus deinem Hals!" She shouted in German.
"Heh, this is why I like you. You're an angry thing and you're no p***y. Everyone freezes in fear when they see me."
"Maybe because you're trying to murder them??"
She folded her arms across her chest, angry that he broke into her room without knocking on the door like a decent person.
"Well, if I tried to murder you... would you react the way they do?"
"...No. you already tried to kill me, sooo..."
"Exactly. You're an strange case, Adeline. I don't think your afraid of me. Since I was 13, people have only been scared of me.. except for this one girl who wasn't... she had your name and same hair, skin and eye color as you. You must be the friend I was looking for.. and I remember you."
She felt tears running down her face, her own friend was back and safe! He missed him so much.. she wanted to run to him and give him a hug.
"I want you to spend time with me.. I can tell we have a lot to catch up on." She nodded, opening her arms out to hug him. He ran into them, as they embraced each other. Jeff looked up at her, the same childlike innocence in his eyes. "Tomorrow, same alley..?"
"Yes, of course! I'll be sure to wear something that can have you recognize me."
He smiled at her.
"Goodnight, Adeline. Your room's cute by the way."
"Goodnight, Jeff."
She smiled, still holding him in her arms.
The childhood friends were finally reunited after years of being separated..
