The sound of a bullet which pierced the arm of a man rung painfully in the ears of those who heard it. A shriek then cries for help followed from the woman who witnessed it all. The detectives in the elevator moving to the final floor aggressively slammed their fingers on the button to take them back. Panicked by it all they ran out to take the stairs to where the victim was on the ground bleed next to his lover. They were quick in acting unlike the only other help around.
"I've called the ambulance." Jimin informed Yoongi who pressed the woman's sweater onto the wound to stop the gushing blood. "I'm going to check the room."
The detective peered through the open space to find nothing or anyone except an open window where clearly the bullet had traveled through. They were being waited for. Jimin rushed out to find they were no longer alone for residents of the other apartments had come out to witness the tragedy. Not wanting to alert anymore, he held his question at the tip of his tongue for when the time was right. He stayed by the bleeding victim who confirmed his suspicious to be true. The shot had been fired from perhaps the building across since they were certain no one else was in the apartment. While Jimin was being given information, Yoongi searched about to be sure. The results were as expected.
Once the two were taken away, another detectives arrived to the scene. Jungkook was quick in rushing to the room when told about how the incident must have happened.
"It wasn't them." The whispered fearfully. "They shouldn't have been it."
The realization struck hard, but not for long because if he had not been next then they knew who was. They were quick to rush down the flight of stairs as one dialed the number of the two other detectives on the case. No one answered despite the many time they called. Voicemails were left until at last after traveling for the longest time, the phone was answered.
"You've got the right guy!" Jungkook screeched as Yoongi made a sharp turn that sent the other two swaying harshly to the side. "He's next!"
"We're staking outside his apartment." Taehyung responded. "No murdering is happening tonight."
The detective was right in saying such because indeed no one did die that night. The five spent the night looking out for this man who might not even be knowing that his life was in danger. No one had dared even approach the home of the man until the early morning when it appeared someone who lived there was getting back. It appeared to be a young teenage girl who was going to be given a stern talking to by her father.
"We've got to be at the station soon, we can't watch over this guy all day." Hoseok announced as the alarm rang in the car and those inside were awoken. He had been in charge as look out while everyone else rest their eyes. They all wailed at the bright sun hitting their faces.
"We can't just leave him there to be possibly killed."
"We're not definitely sure it was him. We aren't even sure when the killer might strike next."
"Yoongi's right." Hoseok sighed. "We don't know if this for sure our next corpse. For all we know, we could have gotten the right guy, but the killer missed their shot."
The group decided it was for the best that they leave things be for now. Plus they also thought it'd be best they disappear from the area as soon as possible. It was dangerous for all five of them to sitting in a car watching over a civilian's home with no "real" reason. Everyone went about their separate ways only to meet once again at work to pretend they had not spent most of the night watching over their possibly next murdered victim. Yoongi and Jimin, however, were pulled aside by their superiors to speak of the man shot in the arm.
"Let me get this straight." Namjoon said, looking down to his notepad. "Both of you were there because Jimin lives there. Where had you come from so late in the evening and why together?"
The tension in the room rose as it was clearly seen that the team leader found odd that his two detectives were at the place and in the right time of the incident. The two looked to each other not as though they were formulating, but seeming concerned in telling their boss. They could have told the truth of coming back from dinner with friends however they couldn't be accounted for being at the restaurant that long. They also couldn't say what seemed logical for Yoongi's visit since they had agreed to keep their relationship under lock and key after once overhearing Namjoon rant of how he found co-worker relationships a mistake.
"We were coming back from dinner with some the rest of the team and we were on our way to the rooftop when we heard the bullet go off. Yoongi was there because he and I needed to discuss personal matters."
Namjoon looked them closely before turning to Jin who pushed away from the computer.
"You check out. We need you both to go to where we're predicting the bullet was shot from, the rooftop of the building across. Call in the rest for us on your way out."
They went out feeling still nervous of the whole situation. When they arrived back to their desk area they found only two of the three called for. Taehyung had disappeared, but that was not their problem. They left the message to two of where they were wanted and left.
"Do you think it was coincidence that the man got shot?" Jimin asked as he thought things over but found them not to be adding up.
Yoongi sighed. "Frankly, I don't know. It's weird that it just so happens he ends up getting shot despite us having the wrong guy."
The two walked outside thinking about how strangely their night had turned out. Things only got even stranger when Yoongi opened his car door and a paper slipped out. On it was a message that had definitely come from the killer.
Strike 1. Try again. I'll be waiting.
