It had been predicted that the killer's next target was to be a man.
Jimin looked about the office in search of Jungkook who had given him such information. He wanted to trust it, but couldn't for he had been presented with no evidence. There was no sign of the male who had without a doubt been sitting at his desk not too long ago. Instead of going about to look for him and cause suspicion, the detective sat back and shared the new information with his partner. Yoongi read it and instead of being doubtful of the message like Jimin had been, he stopped to think about it.
"It very well could be...How did we not see it before?Jimin, think of our victims." Yoongi said pointing the board where clues of all four murders had been put up. "There have been four, two women and two men. Each were killed in order of man then woman. If this is a pattern the killer is following then the next victim must be a man!"
Excited by the new discovery which everyone had failed to see, it was shared among detectives. Namjoon was even fetched and to all the rookies surprise, he barely reacted.
"Jungkook told me already, but this information is almost worthless. All we know is that the next dead body we'll have to investigate will be a man's. We don't have a single clue as to who he might be because we don't know the killer's motive."
The only piece of hope keeping the detectives going was pushed back down to the hole it crawled up to suffer like before. They were all sent back to work only to find themselves at the end of the day with more work that needed fulfillment the next day. Together the five rookies came together for dinner to talk of their finding and to see eye to eye with new piece of information.
"This is gold, you know." Jungkook said as he shook the liquid in his drink with a straw. "Now I know what to look for tonight. It's Ravi's night to sell and I've come to notice that the killings occur days or so afterwards. It must all depend on when the person uses the drug."
Restoration of faith fell among them all as they silently cheered for this new finding. Perhaps the new information may serve worthless to Namjoon, but not to them. They decided that Jungkook was to leave first while the others stayed near to see if anything was suspicious. Hoseok and Taehyung were stationed west to the hideout while Yoongi and Jimin east a few blocks away. They were to each see for any males coming by or leaving. If Jungkook gave the word that he thought one might be the next target the detectives who were the closet were to follow them.
"Agust called today to tell me he likes the kitty too, whatever that means." Yoongi said as he responded to a text on his phone. Jimin couldn't help but to smile cheekily as he was glad to hear the toddler was relating to him in a way. He was glad that Agust wasn't some scrawny brat who wanted him far from his father.
"You know, I don't understand still why you hid him from us, from me."
Yoongi sighed. "It's complicated."
Whether that be the case or not, Jimin didn't believe it. He looked to Yoongi and could tell that he was lying. There was an answer to the question, only it did not want to be said. However, Jimin did not push for him to say it. He stayed quiet again to focus on the lonely street before letting his curiosity get the best of him.
"Were you there when he was born? I've always been curious as to how it must feel to know your child is about to be born."
"No, but I was when he turned a month old. There were some complications with him so he was hospitalized for about three weeks. I visited when I could from the academy...Since you're so curious I will tell you there's a bit of excitement and fear to it all." Yoongi said as his eyes became distant for he appeared to be recalling the time at which his child was born. "You can't stay still because although you know you'll be having a boy, you still want to see how he looks coming into the world. You're also scared because what if something were to go wrong and you can't do anything, especially with being so far away..."
Hints of regret and even guilt could be heard in Yoongi's fading voice. He was reminiscing the moments as though they had only occurred minutes before. Jimin stayed silent. While the elder gather himself he continued to look out onto what was no longer an empty side walk. Eyes followed those of two figures before a message dinged at both phones. A call came from Hoseok seconds later.
"We've got eye on a tall older male."
Jimin looked to Yoongi quickly who looked to him before back at who they also thought suspicious. They were quick in asking Jungkook which way the suspected victim was headed, but the boy did not answer. Not wanting to risk anything, both pairs followed who they were suspicious of. The pair which Yoongi and Jimin followed behind lived in the same apartment complex as Jimin to their surprise.
"Well this has been happening right under my noses and I've had no clue. This is just great." Jimin said sarcastically as he rushed to get out of the car. They moved quickly to join the couple in the elevator. They weren't both young, only the woman. She was blonde with a big smile she could not contain in front of the elder man who whispered in her ear. Their romantic banter was broken by the two males in the shaft with them.
"Quite cold outside at this time, isn't it?" Jimin said awkwardly as he commenced the phase said necessary.
"I gave you my coat, stop whining." Yoongi responded, not aware that the comment had been directed towards the couple and not him. It was too late regardless for the couple were out the door while the two began a quarrel in whispers.
"You idiot!" Jimin whispered lowly yet angrily. "I was trying to make conversation."
"Uh, terrible way to start it." Yoongi scoffed.
The sound of the keys dangled for a second and the door of the couple unlocked just at the elevator door closed. The second the elevator went into motion so did a bullet.
