Chapter eighteen

Jessie awoke to a bright light shining down on her. Squinting her eyes and moving her head around she realised she was in a hospital room. Wait, why was she in the hospital? Jessie sat up in the hospital bed, a sharp pain shooting through her left arm.

"Whoa, you're awake. But you need to lay down, honey." A nurse said, walking into the room and pushing Jessie back down. "I'm Layla, by the way."

"W-why am I h-here?" Jessie asked groggily.

"You were in a pretty bad car crash a few days ago. You've been in a coma for three days." Layla replied as she checked all of Jessies vitals.

Jessie tried to remember what happened. She knows that Bellamy and her went to a diner, then they were going some other place, and when they were in a taxi they got hit by a car? Wait, Bellamy. Where is Bellamy?

"B-Bellamy." Was all Jessie managed to stutter out, worry starting to fill her.

A look of sympathy washed over Laylas face as she looked at Jessie. She sat down on the edge of Jessies bed before speaking up.

"Well, luckily he's alive. But, he's in critical condition. You see, when the car hit your taxi it hit Bellamy the most." Layla said, making Jessies breathing hitch.

"I n-need to see him." Jessie whispered, tears starting to fill her eyes, but Layla shook her head.

"I'm sorry sweetheart, but you can't. You have to stay in bed."

"No! I n-need to see him!" Jessie yelled, trying to sit up but being pushed back down by Layla. Jessie ripped out her IV, pushing Layla off of her. But letting out a pained scream when she put pressure on her arm.

Layla reached out, pressing a red button that was on the side of the bed. A few seconds later two more nurses came in, holding Jessie down as Layla got a syringe.

"Sh, it's okay, everything's going to be okay." Layla cooed as she slowly pushed the syringe into Jessies arm. Jessies screams soon died out as she felt her body go numb. Her eyelids went heavy as she soon fell into a deep sleep.

__________

When Jessie woke up she let out a quite groan. Her head was throbbing with pain as she looked around the room. Layla was checking her vitals once again. Jessie reached up to rub her eyes, catching the attention of Layla.

"Hey, you." Layla smiled, "Your breakfat's right there." She said, motioning to the tray that sat on the small table. Jessie nodded her head, not feeling hungry at the moment.

"Oh come on, you even have Jell-o." Layla chuckled, walking over to the tray and holding up the small container as proof.

"Bellamy." Was all Jessie said. Layla let out a sigh, nodding her head as she set the Jell-o back down on the tray.

"I'll get a wheelchair." Layla said as she walked out of the room. A few seconds she came back with a wheelcahir. She helped Jessie out of the bed and into the wheelcahir. Jessie held onto the IV, dragging it after her as Layla wheeled her out of the room.

"Ok, I'm taking you to see Bellamy. But I must warn you, he's hooked up to a lot of things right now. But don't worry, he's going to be fine." Layla told Jessie as she wheeled her towards Bellamys room. Jessie gave her a nod.

When Layla wheeled her into Bellamys room she felt her heart stop. Jessies eyes filled with tears as she looked at Bellamy, the boy she loved, hooked to all kinds of machines. There were tubes going into his throat, chest, arms, everywhere.

Jessie let out a choked sob as they moved cloer to Bellamys unconscious body. Cuts and bruises littered his body. Jessie slowly stood up, despite the protests of Layla she slowly stumbled over to bellamy. She took his much larger hand in her own, giving it a weak squeeze as tears fell from her eyes.

"Hey, you." She chuckled quietly, reaching up with her other hand to wipe away the tears.

"Jessie, we have to go soon." Layla quietly spoke from where she stood.

"I'm going to check on you everyday. I love you so much." Jessie whispered, leaning down to kiss Bellamys temple. She wiped away all her tears with the back of her hands before getting into the wheelchair.

"Wait, what happened to the drivers?" Jessie asked, only now remembering there were two other people, maybe even more.

"The taxi driver was killed on impact and the other driver only had a few scratches."

"How did it happen?"

"Other driver was drunk." Layla replied, sighing as she shook her head. "He ran a red light and rammed right into your taxi."

"Where is he now?" Jessie asked through gritted teeth, anger filling her.

"That asshole is sitting in a cold jail cell waiting for his court date."

__________

As Jessie sat watching the TV that hung in the corner of her room the door opened, in walking  her parents and Clarke. She quickly switched off the TV, staring wide eyed at her family.

"Oh honey. I'm so sorry we couldn't come sooner." Mrs.Griffin cried as she pulled her daughter in for a hug.

"Are you alright? How are you feeling?" She asked, cupping Jessies face in her hands and inspecting her face.

"Mom, I'm fine." Jessie weakly chuckled, pushing her moms hands away.

"We heard about Bellamy." Mr.Griffin spoke, a sypmathetic look on his face.

"Yeah, um h-he's in a coma." Jessie replied quietly, tears filling her eyes for the hundreth time.

"Oh, honey." Mrs.Griffin said as she pulled in Jessie for a hug, but pulling away when she winced. She looked down at her arms, a cast was on her left arm and a bandage on the other, covering all of her sticthes.

"Jess," Clarke spoke up, walking towards her older sister. "Um, Bellamys family is here. They wanted to talk to you." Jessies eyes went wide as she processed what her sister just said.

"Do you want us to send them in?" Mr.Griffin asked, causing Jessie to slowly nod her head.

"Okay, we'll go get them." He spoke up again, leading his family out of the room and sending in a woman and a girl that couldn't of been older than sixteen. Jessie pushed herself so that she sat up straight.

"Hi." She said quietly, giving a shy smile.

"Hello, I'm Aurora. And this is Octavia." The woman said, motioning to the teenager beside her. Octavia gave Jessie a small wave, still staring at the ground.

"I'm Jessie."

"We know, Bellamy would always talk about you when we talked on the phone." Aurora chuckled. "But anyway, how are you feeling, sweetheart?"

"I'm fine, I guess." Jessie shrugged, fiddling with her fingers.

The three of them talked for a while longer before Aurora had to take Octavia to soccer practice.

"We'll come and visit you again soon." Aurora smiled, giving Jessie a kiss on the head.

"Bye." Octavia said queitly, sending Jessie a shy wave before following her mom out of the room.
