(I have no watched Kakashi Gaiden, except for a few minutes of it so I am trying to pull what I remember from it right now because my dad has the laptop. Will not be perfect.)

Years had passed in Konoha. Meiko was now twelve and a Chunin of Konoha. Her hair was now down to her butt, but it was choppier in places than before. Her face seemed slightly more grown up that it been, and the confidence in her step was admired by many.

But the thing is, she had gotten a lot worse. The voice in her head had gotten meaner, and she felt slightly more crazy that she ever had lately. Currently she was laying in her bed, her legs crossed over each other as she let out a loud sigh, pieces of her bangs blowing up in the air from the force of her breathing.

Meiko sat up in her bed and threw her legs over the side of her bed, dangling her legs off of the bed. She stretched out her legs and smiled when she finally found the solid ground under her. Meiko stood a lot shorter than most of the kids from her class, herself only being a staggering 4'11. She sighed heavily again as she trailed over to her closest and pulled out her new and improved ninja outfit.

She slid on a pair of fitted ninja pants that's stopped just after her knee caps, a fishnet top and a black shirt that had red sleeves on it. She then pulled on her Flak Jacket over the shirt and adjusted it on her body. Meiko attached a pouch to both of her thighs, one contained weapons and the other contained medical things she could need on any mission. She also threw her Katana's strap on her back, adjusting the sword so that it laid comfortably on her back.

She took a look in the mirror and gently played with her hair as she tried to figure out what to do with it. It was frankly too long for anything that Meiko would want to do for it, and it was bothersome when she went on missions. Meiko look in the mirror before she pulled a kunai out of her pouch and glanced at the two chunks of hair that were in front of her shoulders blades. She placed the kunai down on the table and grabbed two rubber bands, putting her hair into two pony tails. After making sure that they were even, she used the kunai to cut her hair right above the hairband.

Meiko gathered the two pony tails of hair and placed them on the dresser beside her before she stared at her now shoulders length hair and shook her head from side to side, a small laugh escaping her lips as her hair swung around her face. After she was done playing with her new haircut, she grabbed a pencil and piece of paper and left her room.

She walked down the stairs to where her living room was, and when her father turned and saw her, his jaw dropped slightly. "Meiko... You cut your hair." He said slightly as he moved towards his daughter, running his fingers through her hair slightly.

"Does it look okay? I only cut it because it keep getting in the way and when I was on missions it always got caught on something so I just fi-" She was cut off by her father smiling at her, and ruffling her shaggy hair.

"I love it." He said, and Meiko hugged her dad tightly before she moved into the kitchen with him.

"I think it suits me." She said, nodding her head. Her father chuckled slightly as he nodded his head.

"I think so too. But hey Meiko, there's something I need to talk to you about." Her father said, and Meiko tilted he head to the side slightly.

"Yeah, dad?"

"I am going to be sending team Minato out on a mission later, and I want you to go with them. You've become a fairly skilled medical ninja, and you're a very good fighter. While this team is full of amazing shinobi, I want you to go because I will feel safer with you there." He said, and Meiko nodded slightly.

"What are we going to be doing on this mission?" She asked, and the Hokage sighed softly.

"You will be destroying the Kannabi Bridge that connects Iwagakure to Konohagakure to stop Iwagakure from getting the supplies that they need. Kakashi made Jonin today so he will be leader of the mission, you will be a co-captain beside of Minato. I do not want a whole lot of fighting, I want the bridge destroyed and then you guys back. But you are to listen to Kakashi's orders. Do you understand?"

"Hai." Meiko said, nodding her head slightly.

"I figured you could use a mission with a team instead of all the solo missions you've been doing since Izumo and Kotetsu have taken over the guard station at the gates of Konoha."

Since their promotion to Chunin, they had been put on guard duty. Of course, the job was also offered to Meiko, but she thankfully declined because she knew that she wasn't fit for doing the jobs at the gate. She was more of action type of girl.

"Hai." She said. "It's been fairly boring."

"You know, you could just ask for more missions that involve teams, right?"

"Most of the team missions you have require a Jonin level of order, which I am not."

"The title Jonin may not be yours, but the skills you have come up with in these last two years are worthy of the title Jonin." The Hokage said, and Meiko laughed softly.

"If you say so, dad." She replied, and he ruffled her hair slightly.

"You can take the Jonin exams when you return from this mission, deal?"

"Deal!"

Meiko had left her house after her father told her that she would be meeting up with team Minato at a field that was relatively close to the border of Iwagakure. She traveled quickly, but not too quickly so that she didn't get there too early.

When she arrived at the meeting place, she was met with Minato-Sensei Rin, and Kakashi. Kakashi glanced over at her, and a small hint of confusion covered his features, but Minato just smiled at her.

"Glad you could make it, Meiko." He said, and Meiko nodded her head.

"Glad to be coming along." She said, rocking back on her heals slightly. Kakashi was continuing to give her a slight tilted head before he blew out the air in his cheeks. Rin smiled brightly at Meiko, who happily returned the smile.

It was a while later before Obito arrived, scrambling along the ground and smiling proudly up at his sensei. "Sorry I'm late! This old lady stopped me and asked me for directions, so I helped her to get where she was going!"

"That's a lie, isn't it?" Kakashi said, rolling his eyes.

"No it's not! I even carried her bag!" Obito said before rubbing his eyes. "I got something in my eye."

"The rules say that a ninja should never be late." Kakashi said with a hard glare, causing Meiko's eyes to widen slightly. She knew he didn't like Obito, but damn he was being harsh.

"That's enough Kakashi." Minato said with s laugh, but Kakashi looked at his sensei.

"You're too lenient, Sensei." Kakashi said, but Minato just chuckled quietly, watching as Obito placed an eye droplet in his eyes to 'get.' whatever was in it.

Obito seemed to finally notice that Meiko was there, and he smiled brightly at her, waving his hand. "Hi, Meiko! What are you doing here?"

"The Hokage asked me to come along to co-captain!" Meiko said with a slight giggle, and Obito's eyes landed on her hair. He jumped up and ran over to her, his fingers running through her short hair.

"You cut it?!" He said, a slight whining tone to his voice as Meiko laughed slightly and nodded.

"It was too long, Obito!" She said with a joking tone as anime tears ran down his face for a second, before he wiped his eyes.

"The rule book says that a ninja should never show their tears..." Kakashi said, and Meiko narrowed her eyes at Kakashi slightly in a glare.

"Does the rule book say how far I can shove my foot up your ass?" She said. and Kakashi gave her a hard glare for a moment before he went back to his poker face.

As sad as it was to say, Meiko had slowly grown to dislike Kakashi since his father killed himself. Kakashi became an asshole after that, constantly going on about the ninja handbook and what made who scum, why it made them scum, etc.

Kakashi didn't show that he cared, but over the years he had grown to slightly care about the well being of Meiko since he found her in the forest. He didn't care about her as much as he cared about his squad, even Obito, but he still cared a little bit.

Frankly; he barely cared about his squad. He was very solitary, and thought he do anything better than anyone. His cockiness irked Meiko beyond belief, but she would let it slid because there were more important things at hand than this stupid dislike she had for the boy.

//

"So what is our mission, Sensei?" Rin asked, the squad nearly to the border of the Iwagakure and Konohagakure.

"Our mission is to destroy the Kannabi bridge so that Iwagakure stops getting supplies they need. Kakashi will be the leader of the mission while Meiko and I are co-leaders."

"Why does Kakashi get to be leader?!" Obito exclaimed.

"Because because of today, Kakashi is a Jonin like me." Minato said.

"Did you forget Obito?" Rin said as they came to a stop. "I told you about it so that we could get him presents!"

Minato smiled slightly as he pulled a kunai out of his bag. "Speaking of gifts, here. This kunai is shaped weird, and it's heavier than most, but once you get the hang out using it, it's a great weapon." Minato said as he tossed the kunai to Kakashi.

"Thank you, Sensei." Kakashi said.

Rin began to fumble with her backpack, pulling out a medical kit. "Here Kakashi! It's a medical kit that I modified to make it easier for you to use!" She said with a closed eye smile, handing Kakashi the medical kit. He took the kit from her, and thanked he afterwards.

Next, he extended his hand to Obito, who looked almost offended that Kakashi had his hand towards him. "What?! I didn't get you anything!" Obito said.

"Figures. Doesn't matter because anything you could have given me would have be useless, just like you." Kakashi said, his normal bored tone in his voice.

"What?! When I activate my sharigan, I'm gonna be stronger than you! Strongest in the entire Uchiha clan!" Obito said with his fist clenched at his side, a very angry expression covering his features.

"Whatever." Kakashi said as he turned his back to Obito and looked at Meiko.

"You didn't know to bring anything, did you?" He asked, and Meiko shook her head slightly, before remembering that she had something she could give him. Not that it was much, but maybe it would be something.

"Wait!" Meiko said as she fumbled to get her backpack off of her back. She flipped it open and grabbed a blank scroll she had in her bag, in case she was to encounter a new jutsu on this trip. "Here!" She said as she handed the scroll towards Kakashi.

Kakashi tilted his head to the side slightly, but took the gift regardlessly. They all began to walk towards the border, Meiko walking behind of Kakashi, Rin to her left, Obito to her right, and Minato behind them.

As they walked, a piece of paper fell out of Kakashi's backpack and landed in front of Meiko. So she leaned down and picked up the note between her fingers, allowing the rest of the group to travel around her.

Now, Meiko wasn't saying that it was nice to snoop through other peoples things, but in her defense, she didn't know what the paper could possibly have on it.

Once Minato walked in front of her, just a few steps so that she wouldn't fall to far behind, she fumbled with the corners of the paper. When it was open, her eyes widened, and her breath caught in her throat.

It was the last note she had ever written the mystery man.
