|40| Madison

Maddy stared at the hotel and took a deep breath. This was it. They had reached the Valencia Hotel. It was a huge and fancy hotel. Whoever this boss was, he was rich just like the Alphas.

Maddy and Xander had worn normal clothes over their armors, to not attract attention. It felt uncomfortable and suffocating as hell. It looked slightly weird, but you wouldn't notice anything different at a single glance.

Maddy turned to Xander. "Can you sniff out the rogues? It will take a lot of time to knock on each and every door until we come across the matefinder. And we might alert the rogues that way or get kicked out of the hotel."

Xander nodded and started shifting.

Maddy immediately grabbed his arm. "Not now," she hissed. "You think they'll allow me in with a fricking wolf?"

"Fine, fine," Xander grumbled. "You know giving me orders is not in your best interests. I'm a dominant wolf, an extremely dominant one."

"You're going to get yourself killed by doing stupid things if I don't stop you," Maddy said, amusedly.

"Okay, okay. You are the brains and I am the brawn. I got it. Now, let's go?"

Together, the two of them started walking towards the hotel trying to act as natural as possible. Apparently, acting natural to Xander meant acting as if he was a model doing a catwalk. Maddy had to bite her lip to stop herself from laughing loudly. They were supposed to be inconspicuous, but Xander was drawing a lot of attention with his damn catwalk.

"Stop it. Act natural."

"I am acting natural," Xander replied defensively.

"Then act more natural."

Xander nodded and softly started whistling while doing the catwalk. Maddy facepalmed. Leave it to Xander to do such things before a battle. Maddy didn't tell Xander to 'act more natural' as she was afraid that he would start doing weirder stuff. The two of them entered the lobby and went to the reception.

"We need a room for two," Xander said, flashing a smile at the receptionist. He was back to his normal charming and flirtatious self. He slowly wrapped an arm around Maddy's waist, careful not to touch the silver underneath her shirt. "My girlfriend and I have come to California for a vacay."

Maddy smiled at the receptionist and then kissed Xander's cheek, her lips lingering on his cheek. Two could play a game. Xander's arm tightened around her waist.

"Oh my gawd, you both are so cute together," the receptionist cooed and started ranting about the rooms that were available.

"The room on the fourth floor would be the best for a couple as adorable as you. It has a great view and is a honeymoon suite, so it already has protection if you need any," the lady said winking.

Maddy felt her face heat up. Why did people make such casual references to sex? In India, sex was a topic no one ever talked about.

"Yeah, we'll take that room," Xander said smoothly, saving her from the embarrassment. It didn't matter which room they took. The three packs including the Megaclite Pack would be collectively paying for it. All that mattered was that they could lure the rogues towards the field.

They were taken to the honeymoon suite. It was extremely lavish, with a huge bed. The entire room was dimly lit giving it some sort of a golden glow. True to the receptionist's words the room had an amazing view.

Before she could get too distracted by the luxuries provided by the hotel, Maddy quickly got to work. They immediately went to the washroom one by one and removed the clothes they wore on top of their armors. Maddy put on the helmet. She was covered from head to toe with silver for her protection. Xander wore the shirt that he had first worn on top of the armor, below the armor and also put on a pair of gloves. He looked quite comical dressed up like that, but Maddy didn't say anything.

Once they were done, Xander shifted into his wolf form and started sniffing the air. Maddy went outside and after making sure that the hallway was empty, the two of them started walking, with Xander taking the lead. Xander led Maddy to the next floor but they couldn't go any further, not with Xander in his wolf form. The entire floor was bustling with activity. Xander shifted back into his human form in one corner of the hallway, away from everyone's eyes.

They were walking side by side through the hallway and people were looking at the two of them weirdly, confused by what they were wearing. One of them even asked her.

Maddy mumbled the first thing that came to her head. "We are actually cosplaying. We needed to dress up for that."

Xander looked confused, so Maddy explained once the guy who asked her went away. "Cosplaying is basically dressing up as some fictional character. It's extremely cool. I've always wanted to do it."

Xander gave her an amused look, but kept his mouth shut. While Xander was distracted with trying to determine where the rogues were, he smacked into a girl and the girl fell down on her butt. Xander immediately held his hand out, like the gentleman he was, and helped her up but Maddy froze when they saw who the girl was, when she lifted her head.

Tooth-necklace lady snarled at the two of them, but before she could alert the other rogues, Xander swiped her leg in the same way Maddy had done it to him before. Tooth-necklace lady fell on her knees and Xander brought her head to his knees. The sound of tooth-necklace lady's nose breaking rang through the hallway.

Maddy had been so focused on tooth-necklace lady that she forgot about the humans around her. They were screaming and backing away from Xander. One of them even tried to push Xander away and help tooth-necklace lady. With a jolt, Maddy realized that they thought that Maddy and Xander were the bad guys. The humans had only seen Xander attacking tooth-necklace lady for no reason.

Tooth-necklace lady shouted loudly but did not shift. Even the rogues didn't want humans to know of their existence. It is in human nature to be afraid of what they do not understand, and since they don't know much about the werewolves, it might result to humans hunting down werewolves. Even though werewolves had power, the humans had the numbers and this would lead to the extinction of werewolves.

Hearing tooth-necklace lady's shout, rogues started coming from all corners of the room. Maddy and Xander waited for the rogues to accumulate and then put their plan into action. Maddy stated weaving through the rogues. As her silver armor brushed against the rogue's hands and legs, they screamed and backed away. Just like that, a small path was created for Maddy to go through with Xander at her heels. While running, Maddy made sure to stab the rogues whenever they tried blocking her path. The moment they had pushed through all the rogues they started running for the open courtyard where the Amalthea and Callisto pack were. The rogues started following them, just like it was planned. Whenever the rogues got too close, Xander would stop and kill the ones closest to him and then follow Maddy.

"You are too slow," Xander grunted. He grabbed Maddy and carried her bridal style, as he ran with his werewolf speed. Xander had specifically worn the t-shirt and gloves in order to make sure that he didn't burn himself even if he did touch Maddy. He started running in full speed and Maddy grinned, loving the way the wind felt on her face. Had it been any other situation, Maddy would have screwed Xander for manhandling her like that, but she had been slowing Xander down with her human speed. Tucked in Xander's arms felt amazing, even though Maddy would deny it to anyone who asked her.

"You smell nice," Xander mumbled.

Maddy wasn't sure whether she should laugh, roll her eyes or groan. "Concentrate! You are such an idiot."

"But I am your idiot," Xander replied smirking.

Maddy rolled her eyes but didn't say anything. She knew that if she did, Xander would reply back with another flirtatious line.

"Out of the way," Maddy shouted trying to make the humans move away.

'It's funny how I call them humans as if I am not one,' Maddy thought as she screamed her lungs out.

The humans screamed and practically leapt out of their way. No humans had been hurt, as far as Maddy could tell. The two of them ran outside the hotel. The rogues had their gaze fixed on the two of them, and didn't even notice that they had left the hotel. The field was just beside the hotel. It had been cleared off previously and as Maddy entered the courtyard she came face to face with Justin and Tristan.

Half the werewolves were in wolf forms while the other half was in human form. The ones in their wolf form, were in the front in some sort of formation. The moment they saw Maddy the two packs surged forward and enveloped them so that the rogues don't know where the two of them are. Maddy carefully weaved her way through the werewolves, careful not to hurt them. They made it to the extreme end of the field and Xander sat down, to catch his breath. Maddy sat down beside him, grinning. Adrenaline coursed through her veins, and she felt like she could do everything and anything.

"That was awesome," she squealed.

Xander nodded, his chest heaving. Now, they only had to get the matefinder and then their job would be done.
