|38| Madison
Maddy fiddled with the hem of her shirt as she stared off into the distance. There were only five days left until they would attack the rogues and try rescue the matefinder. If she had to tell the truth, she wasn't sure if she liked the idea of a battle. A month ago, the prospect of a battle would have excited Maddy but now that she was actually a few days away from one, it didn't seem so appealing. Of course, she wanted to help the werewolves, but she didn't want to kill the rogues. That would be murder even though it was done with good intentions. So many people would be killed.
Maddy couldn't help feeling that she had somehow contributed to the occurrence of the war. After all, she was the one who figured out the location. Maybe if she had kept that information to herself and instead snuck out later with Xander, Jeremy and Alexa, the entire battle wouldn't have taken place and the loss of many lives could be averted.
However, now there was no going back. Not knowing the place where the matefinder was, was the only reason that the werewolves hadn't attacked yet. Now that they knew the location the Alphas had started planning. It was going to be a full-fledged battle with weapons and everything, including a lot of destruction.
Maddy was brought out of her stupor by someone calling her name. Maddy turned around to find a girl of about ten years standing in front of her. The girl was looking back again and again as though she was anxious to go back to play and she seemed to be holding something in her hand. Maddy vaguely remembered her standing with her parents during the ritual to call the matefinder.
"Are you Madison?"
Maddy nodded at the girl. The girl held out the thing that she had been holding. Maddy realized that it was a letter. Maddy stared at it confused. Who sent letters anymore?
The letter was clearly addressed to her. What amused her was the fact that on the envelope, it was written that the letter was to be delivered at a specific time and date, that is the very date when Maddy received the letter and at that very time. The girl scurried away after giving her the letter. Curious, Maddy opened the letter and started reading it under her breath.
'Maddy,
You might not know me but I know you really well. It is a pity that the only way I can communicate to you right now is through this letter but I can assure you that we will get to know each other really well in the future.
Now the reason why I wrote this letter is quite simple- You need to fight this battle. You must be having a lot of second thoughts about all this but you need to know that one thing is for sure, you cannot escape what is already fated.
To make you understand better- Just like you, God too is a writer and we all are the characters in the story. Regardless of what you think, things will happen just the way God is written. The battle will happen. You can either be the damsel in distress type of character and sit out of the fight, or you could be the badass character and own the battle. The choice is all yours.
The Matefinder.'
Maddy closed the letter and blinked twice, trying to register all the information. She had just received a letter that was written months ago from someone who can predict the future. How was it that her life just got weirder and weirder? A good weird, but weird nevertheless.
Whatever the case was, this letter had made a lot of things clearer. There was no way she was going to be a damsel in distress who needed saving from the dragon. She'd rather be the dragon, eating everyone whole. The way the matefinder had converted whatever spiritual talk about fate and destiny to a language that Maddy understood, made things a lot easier for Maddy.
With a newfound confidence, Maddy made her way to the gym. Now that she had decided that she was going to fight in the battle, she would need to be prepared. Ever since being taken from the beach, Maddy concentrated more on being able to take on werewolves. Maddy realized that the rogues would be behind her no matter what and won't let her be in peace. It really was a shame that the only way to secure peace, was to prepare for war.
