I Need A Doctor

"Calamity!" A couple of the rookies called, making me look up from the sketchbook I was drawing in.

"Hm?" I called back.

They hesitated. Then one spoke up. "Erm... Are you sure you should be up there?" He called. "If you fall, the captain..."

I blinked curiously at them from my perch. I'm currently sitting on a pole branching from the mast, one of the ones that held the sails, which name currently escapes me. My back was against the mast itself, my legs bent, and sketchbook rested against my thighs to make for easier sketching.

I waved away their concern with a reassuring grin. "Bah! I'll be fine, little ones! Promise!" I called, not taking into account the fact that everyone on the ship, rookie or not, was significantly larger than I.

They shifted uncomfortably and moved around, appearing to prepare to catch me if I fell. I chuckled, leaning to the side to observe their attempts.

"Calamity, please refrain from giving the rookies heart attacks," Killer called from the deck, arms crossed as his voice radiated amusement. He wasn't too concerned, I could tell, because he was confident in his abilities enough to catch me while Kidd was gone- he'd went onto a nearby island personally to get me some schizophrenia medication, and ordered for everyone else to stay on board for some reason.

"I'm not trying to worry them," I called to Killer as the crew- seeing that Killer was on the case- scattered to go about their business. "They're just too skittish."

He chuckled, shaking his head slightly. I turned back to the picture I was drawing. Kidd, his hair wet and falling into his eyes as he gave a wicked smirk, chest bare. No one would ever be allowed to see this sketch, lest I die of embarrassment. After staring at the picture for a moment, I decided to add the final shadings, and set back to work.

'Jump,' a deep voice goaded, making my pencil stop on the page as my eyes widened. Gaze hardening, I shook my head stubbornly.

"No, I won't..." I growled, beginning to shade again in hopes of ignoring them.

"What'd ya say, Cal?" Killer called, still watching over me carefully.

I jumped before steadying myself as I teetered unsteadily on my perch, causing him to tense and hurry forward. Once safely seated once again, I looked down at him.

"Nothing! I'm fine!" I called.

"You sure?" He asked. I nodded. "Okay then, I've got to run to my room real quick, be extra careful while I'm gone!"

I snorted. "Yes, mom."

He disappeared below deck.
'Nice save, dunce. Should just let it happen though, then they wouldn't have to put up with you.'

"I'm not listening," I sighed, shading once again.

'Ignore me, and you'll regret it...'

I shrugged the threat away. I could deal with it until Kidd returned.

A small buzzing whined in my ear, slowly gaining volume, but I ignored it. That is, until it became too loud to ignore.

I covered my ears with my hands, though I knew it'd make no difference. A pain suddenly struck my side, though I'd been struck by no earthly item. My body immediately jerked to curl into that side, and a gasp slipped past my lips as I tumbled off my perch.

I could see the deck approaching fast as wicked laughter echoed through my mind.

>3rd POV<

The explosive sound of something colliding with the deck above, combined with the panicking cries of the crew, was all it took for Killer to go barrelling back onto the deck.

"WHAT HAPPENED?!" He bellowed as he thundered toward the crowd surrounding the mast.

"Calamity!"

"She fell!"

"She isn't moving!"

His heart dropped as his blood ran through his veins like ice.

Calamity? The girl he saw as his own sister? She was hurt?

"Move! Move it!" The normally level-headed first mate raged, shoving through the crew as he forced his way toward Calamity.

She was laying in a crumpled heap on deck, not moving an inch. It didn't even look like she was breathing, and a red liquid was slowly beginning to pool around her head.

He didn't know what to think. He didn't know what to do. Calamity was hurt, and it was because he hadn't stayed to keep an eye on her, knowing how clumsy she was, knowing she had seated herself in a dangerous place. It was all his fault.

"Get me some towels!" He shouted, dropping to his knees as he rolled the unconscious girl onto her back. "Towels, warm water, a clean sponge, and bandages! Now!"

The crew immediately scattered, gathering the requested items with such frantic searching that where ever they had search had been left in ruins.

Kidd had been approaching the ship when he'd heard Killer's demanding, panicked shouts. Fear struck mercilessly at his heart as Calamity came to mind, as she always seemed to attract danger or trouble. He dropped the black roses he'd gotten for her while he'd been out, along with the dark chocolates, yet his body knew to keep a tight hold on the schizophrenia meds as he took off for his ship at a faster ship.

Seeing a group formed around the mast, whispering and frantic, made the fear in his heart grow as he threw multiple crew members to the side to get to the center.

Seeing Killer hunched over Calamity's motionless body, Kidd felt his heart shatter, and could barely stumble the last few steps.

"What happened?" He asked quietly, causing Killer to jump before quickly continuing his work.

"I'll explain later, where's the doctor on this island?" His asked, voice stressed.

"There isn't one..." Kidd replied in a scarily calm voice as he stared at Calamity's pale face. "There's only a medicine shop..."

"Damn it!" Killer growled in frustration. "Get me the Den Den Mushi!"

"What are you planning?" Kidd asked with dull curiosity, sinking to his knees beside his dear Calamity.

"We don't have a choice," Killer whispered as he was handed the transponder snail. "He's better than any island doctor..."

Kidd knew who his first mate was referring to, and though his instincts screamed at him to decline and throttle his companion for suggesting summoning that man, the young captain nodded once.

"Call him... Call Trafalgar..."
