Goodnight
It took me hours to find the insomnia meds, and an hour more to discover we had no schizophrenia meds.
"Well," I sighed, running my hands through my hair as I gave her a couple of the pills. "This won't do anything for the voices, but you'll be able to sleep."
"Thank you," she muttered, her voice hardly louder than a whisper as she swallowed the pills.
"GRRRRRRROWLLLLL~~~!"
A bright blush took over her cheeks as her stomach growled loudly.
I chuckled again, raising an amused eyebrow as her stomach cried out for food a second time.
"Hungry?"
She gazed at me with sarcastic fascination. "How'd ya guess?"
Her attitude didn't really make me angry, but I still narrowed my eyes at her, putting my hands against the table, on either side of her hips as I trapped her there, taking advantage of the height difference as I stared intensely down at her.
"Your attitude will get you punished," I growled as her wide, deep purple eyes met my crimson ones.
Her blush darkened many shades and she bit her lip, looking at my chest to avoid my intense gaze.
Her reaction caused me to smirk as I stepped back. "Let's go get something to eat."
She nodded wordlessly, still biting her lip as she began to work her way off the edge of the table. Recalling what happened the last time, I sighed, grasping her waist and picking her up, setting her on her feet.
Still wobbly on her feet, her small hand reached out, gripping my sleeve for support and looking like a small child.
"Do those voices tire you out that much?" I asked.
"Sorry," she mumbled awkwardly, letting my sleeve go.
"I don't mind," I grumbled. "Just curious. You can.... Hold onto me, if you want."
She looked up at me, then bit her lip again, nibbling on it as she reached up and curled her fingers into my sleeve once again. "Thanks..."
"... So you gonna answer me or what?" I demanded, trying to smother the heat crawling up my neck as we left the infirmary and headed for the kitchen, passing countless crew mates, all of which were too busy stuffing their faces to notice us. "Why the hell are you so tired?"
"I tried to fight them," she mumbled. "Whenever I fight them, it's like they're draining my energy. I know it's all in my head, but..."
She couldn't seem to find the right words, and I had none to provide, so we continued on in silence.
The only one still in the kitchen was Killer, who seemed to just be making his plate. He looked at us, then tilted his head curiously. I gave him a 'what-the-hell-are-you-looking-at?' look, and he said nothing about her holding onto me.
"Are you just now eating, Killer?" Calamity asked, sounding concerned.
"Yeah," he laughed sheepishly. "The others kept crowding the food, and I had to limit them at seconds. For them to clear out."
"Was there enough?" She continued.
"Oh, yeah," he replied.
They continued to chatter like that and I walked over to the meatloaf, Calamity following close behind, still gripping my sleeve.
I made a plate, then handed it to her. She took it with a surprised expression.
"Oh, thanks, Kidd," she said.
"Mmm," I replied, taking a bite of my own food to keep from giving a legitimate response.
Once again, I was stunned by incredible flavor, and found myself getting seconds sooner than anticipated.
By the time I was finished with that, I was full and Calamity had only eaten three quarters of her first helping when she placed her plate on the counter.
"That's all?" Killer asked, surprised.
"I ate slowly," she explained. "So it didn't take much to fill me up."
"I didn't know eating worked that way..."
She chuckled, wiggling the fingers of her hands at him. "The science of food~!"
He chuckled and I shook my head at the two, not able to understand how they can talk so easily with one another.
Suddenly, a soft, cute yawn erupted from Calamity's lip- WAIT! Cute?! Where'd that come from?!
>Calamity POV<
"Tired?" Killer asked as I finished yawning.
"A bit," I admitted, too sleepy for a well-no-shit sarcastic comment.
"Come on," Kidd grumbled, grabbing my wrist and leading me from the kitchen.
I thought he was just showing me where my room was, but imagine my surprise when he pointed me to a small twin sized mattress on the floor before flopping onto his own, king sized bed.
"I-I'm staying in your room?!" I said, shocked.
"Either here, or downstairs with the lot of perverts," he replied with a tired grumble. "Your choice."
"You have a lovely room."
"Thought so."
"Hey, Kidd?"
"What?"
"Is there a shower?"
"Down the right hall, third door to your left."
"Thanks.... Hey, Kidd?"
"What?"
"I, uh... Don't have any clean clothes..." I said awkwardly.
He sighed heavily, rolling off his bed before moving to a dresser and withdrawing a large black T-shirt and throwing it at me.
"I doubt my pants will fit you," he grumbled, flopping back on his bed.
"Fair point, thanks," I grinned, receiving a muffled 'mhm' as I left the room.
The bathroom was spotless, save for the small film of dust on everything. This told me that not many pirates on this ship bothered to shower. Stripping down, I hopped into the shower and let the scalding water relax my sore muscles from cleaning the deck. I used some pine scented shampoo and body wash to clean myself before getting out and drying off.
Observing the clothes I'd abandoned, I discovered my underwear was dry. My shorts, over sized shirt, and bra however were soaked with dirty deck water, the outer clothing covered in rust colored suds.
Pulling on the undies, I put on Kidd's shirt immediately after, and was not surprised when it fell to my mid thigh. I rolled my bra into my shirt, deciding I'd do laundry tomorrow.
Leaving the restroom, I hurried back to Kidd's room, deciding I'd rather not have many in the crew seeing me like this. I opened his door and whipped inside, closing it quickly, but quietly.
"Done?" A gruff voice questioned, causing me to jump and turn around.
Kidd had apparently stayed face down on his bed while I'd been in the shower, and was just picking himself up and turning around.
He froze, red eyes wide and pale cheeks tinted slightly as his gaze locked on my deer-in-headlights form.
"Er... Y-yeah," I said awkwardly, slowly making my way over to the twin sized bed. "Thanks..."
"No... Problem," he replied, just as awkwardly.
I could still feel his gaze on my as I crawled under the covers and turned over, my back to him. "G'night, Kidd."
".... Night..."
>Kidd POV<
"G'night, Kidd," her soft voice called out to me.
I hesitated, unused to the saying, before answering with a short "Night."
I found my eyes taking in her form as she slowly drifted off. Her curves were evident under the thin, tattered blankets. Her incredibly quiet breathing was soothing to my ears, which were so accustomed to the snores from the crew.
Wait, was that... Chattering? Mixing with her breathing?
Yes, it was. It was understandable, seeing as it was fairly cold tonight, and that thin blanket couldn't have provided hardly any heat, as all she was wearing was my shirt, which hung off one shoulder, and showed off her short, yet slender legs, and bunched up slightly on her hips....
Shaking my head, I grumbled something about the chattering making it hard to sleep, just incase she was even slightly awake, before getting off my bed and grabbing my fur-lined jacket off my chair.
Crossing the room, I stood over her. She was in a fetal position, as if trying to hold onto whatever body heat she had, her eyes were closed, her lips parted slightly, teeth quietly clacking together, yet she was most definitely asleep.
My gaze flickered to the door as if someone would walk in unexpectedly, even though the crew knew I'd kill them if they entered without permission. After convincing myself that the coast was clear, I crouched down and draped my jacket over her relatively puny body. The object of fur and leather completely covered the small girl's body, further proving the size difference between herself and I, even if she couldn't have been more than two or three years young than I.
A content sigh, and the ceasing of relentlessly clicking teeth as she snuggled into the coat, smiling slightly, was the effect. Her sleep seemed easier, calmer.
Watching her, I felt the corners of my lips curve upward into a small smile. Not a smirk, not a cocky grin, but an unstoppable smile that I couldn't fight off.
"G'night," I said subconsciously as my fingers brushed some hair from her cheek against my will.
Her lips curved more as he sighed again, nuzzling her head into my large hand. My thumb stroked her soft cheek.
I froze as I realized what I just did, and recoiled in shock as I stood and back up, falling back onto my bed as I stared at the ceiling.
Only one thought crossed my mind.
What the HELL is going on?!
