Kid meets trial
Ava, Auggie and Dewey walk in with the rest of the class and sit in their usual seats with Auggie in the front, Ava behind him and Dewey to his left. Emma Weathersby enters and sits beside Auggie on his right side. Ava glares at her and snarls. Auggie tries to ignore the two as Emma nervously glanced at Ava. Dewey whispers to Auggie, "Here we go again."
"Stay away from Auggie, witch," Ava growls at Emma.
" I won't find another seat because I'm not trying to steal him from you, I just want to be friends with Auggie," Emma explains.
The bell rings and Mr.Matthews enters the room just in time to see Ava pounce on a very screaming Emma. Corey sighs and yells, "Code 158!"
The class evacuates with the exception of Auggie, Dewey and Mr.Matthews. Ava appears to be trying to rip Emma's arms out. "Dewey you know the drill, call the principal already!" Corey exasperatedly ordered.
Dewey reluctantly leaves while muttering, "It was just getting good."
Dewey burst in the principal's office and says, "Code 158, sir!"
The principal sighs, "What part of Emma's body is she trying to rip out this time?"
Dewey replies as they walk out of the office and towards the classroom, "Her arms, sir."
Dewey and the Principal arrive at the classroom to see the two Matthews staring in fascination and horror as Ava apparently having given up on ripping Emma's arms out, was now in the process of pulling out her hair. "Alright Ava, you know how it goes," the principal says.
Ava stops and gets off of a very disgruntled Emma. "Yeah, yeah if I don't want to get suspended, I let Emma go and write her an apology letter," she said as if the principal was stopping her from eating candy instead of from ripping apart another human being.
Emma limps her way out of the room and announces, "That's it! This is the last time you're doing this to me! I'm transferring schools, but first do something about her!"
"Alright, the jury will decide who's at fault and on a proper punishment during study hall later," the principal replies before leaving.
Dewey and Auggie pale with terror. Auggie squeaks out an "Oh no, we're on the jury." while Ava gave them a pointed look. Cory chuckled and said, "Well, that's your problem. Good luck, boys. You're gonna need it.
Auggie, Dewey and some other kids sit behind a long table and Cory stand at the side. "Great, instead of just relaxing in the teacher's lounge I have to supervise you kids. Just hurry up and get this over with, Ava," Mr.Matthews mutters.
"Alright, Ava Morgenstern. You were seen by your whole class, your teacher and the principal attempting to rip apart one of your classmates, Emma Weathersby. Once you state your reason for doing so we will decide on a proper punishment," says a girl with black pigtails who was clearly the leader.
Ava curtly says, "She was trying to steal Auggie from me."
A boy with glasses asks, "Not that it's a valid reason for attacking someone, but do you have any proof?"
"She sat next to him!" Ava explodes.
"That's not really actual proof," Dewey argues.
" You shut up, you're supposed to be my friend. Dear, tell them I'm right!" Ava orders Auggie.
"Well, Ava I'm not saying you're wrong, but they do have a point. I mean, I would never actually let Emma break us apart. She just sat next to me! I could've just asked her to move." Auggie cautiously says.
Ava frowned and looked like she was about to scream louder than a banshee when the girl with black pigtails interrupted, "Ok now that that's settled I know everyone wants to get back to what they're doing so how about school service? She has to help the janitor clean the school for three hours after school for a week. Everybody good with that?"
Everybody on the school jury muttered their agreement and left including Auggie and Dewey who were scrambling to the nearest exit as soon as they could, desperate to put distance between them and a very angry Ava.
Topanga and Cory are sitting at the dining table looking through, papers when Auggie comes up to them and says, "Ava's mad at me because I didn't take her side in the trial on her attacking Emma today! What do I do?"
Topanga and Cory exchange looks. "Oh no, it's your turn! I helped him last time!" Topanga hurriedly exclaims.
"But I have to grade all these essays!" Corey complains.
"And I have to read what they found out about the main suspect in the case I just told you about!" Topanga counters.
Riley comes in through the front door saying, "So do you guys think the theme for the wedding should be space because Farkle and I thought-"
"Riley!" Cory and Topanga say at the same time, both pointing a finger at her and looking like they finally found a good reason for Riley's existence.
"Honey could you be a dear and help Auggie with his high school drama? Your father and I are flooded with work, what's that you say? You don't have anything else to do that's great!" Topanga says as she pushes Auggie towards Riley and retreats back to her pile of papers.
Riley smiles at Auggie and says, "Well, I was in the middle of planning something but I've missed fixing things, especially things with high school drama. Bay window?"
Auggie nods and they climb the stairs and enter Riley's old room. They sit at the bay window and Riley asks, "So what's your problem with Ava this time?"
"How did you know it was with Ava?" Auggie asks.
Riley gives him a look and explains, "Auggie, it doesn't take a genius to figure it out. It's always Ava!"
"Well Emma Weathersby sat next to me in history class this morning and when Ava told her to leave she said no because she wanted to be my friend and Ava attacked her. The principal came and stopped Ava. He told her to go on trial and Dewey and I just happened to be part of the school jury. She got mad at me and Dewey when we didn't defend her. She got the punishment of three hours of helping the janitor out everyday for a week. Was I wrong Riley? I was just telling the truth!" Auggie tells her.
Riley chuckles, "Auggie trust me, if she's your best friend she will see that you were right eventually. All you have to do is apologise and give her some space. She might not forgive you until the punishment is over though."
Auggie looks at her in the eyes and asks, "How do you know?"
"Well something similar happened to me when Maya cheated but instead of telling the truth, I defended her. It's a long story but everything turned out for the best. You're much braver than me to have told the truth, Auggie. I'm proud of you." Riley says sincerely.
Auggie grins and says, "Thanks Riley."
Topanga is sitting on the couch with Ava on her lap, Ava is thin and kind of short so she's not too big for it yet. Ava turns her head to look at Topanga and asks, "Was I wrong in being mad at Auggie? I feel bad that I attacked Emma now. I guess I do have a tendency to be a bit jealous."
Topanga smiles at her, "I'm glad that you know and accept that, Ava. You weren't entirely wrong, as your best friend he should've been there for you, but as a member of the jury, he can't think of you as a friend, only a rule breaker. Deep down you know he made the right decision, but that doesn't exactly mean you're not allowed to be mad at him."
A week later Ava and Auggie enter the classroom, the rest of the class enter behind them and Cory is already at his desk. "I'm sorry, Ava" Auggie apologises.
"No I'm sorry," Ava replies.
The two hug and Auggie mutters, "I love you, Ava."
"And I love you." she says.
The class cheers, Cory smiles at them and Dewey exclaims, "Finally, Dewey has other things to do in life you know!"
Tune in for kid meets Dewey without a silent w coming next week.
