Kid meets Dewey without a silent w
Auggie, Dewey and Ava enter the classroom along with the rest of the class and sit down in their usual seats. "Alright, did everybody do the assignment? Well too bad if you didn't because you're presenting today, who wants to go first? Dewey?" Mr. Matthews asks.
Dewey sulks and exclaims, "Ugh how stupid are you guys? It's not with a silent w, everyone knows that. I can't believe nobody corrected me when I was younger, did all of you want me to look like an idiot all the time?!"
Everyone in the room looks at him with their mouths open. "What?! Shocked that I'm standing up for myself and am finally smart enough to understand you all think I'm stupid?! Ugh I need to get out of this room full of backstabbers!" Dewey says before walking out.
"Wait-I'm Cory, I don't care how it's pronounced! You still have to stay in class! Aw come on-does nobody care what the teacher thinks nowadays?" Mr. Matthews frustratedly announces.
Ava and Auggie exchange a look and Ava says, "Oh no, you're not dragging me into this! As your wife and a girl older than you by a few months, I'm telling you, you take care of this! You are his best friend!"
Auggie sighs and says, "Please, dear? I'll buy you a sparkly tiara with real diamonds using mommy's credit card."
"Hmm...throw in a ring and you got yourself a deal, honey." Ava negotiates.
"All right!" Auggie cheers.
Mr.Matthews looks at the two of them then at the rest of the class and says, "Now most of you would be concerned if you were in my shoes, but at this point, it's practically normal. Anyway, back to your assignments..."
"Alright, let's go and fix this," says Auggie as he and Ava enter Topanga's and approach the table that Dewey's sitting at.
"Dewey, could you just tell us why you suddenly changed your name?" Ava bursts.
Dewey looks up and rolls his eyes. "It was always my name, you guys were just too stupid and weird to figure it out. Why are you bothering me anyway?"
"Because we're your friends Dewey!" Auggie responds.
"Whatever, if you were my real friends you would've corrected me when I was wrong. Good friends don't let their friends keep on being stupid!" Dewey stubbornly reasons.
"But that's what's great about you! You weren't being stupid! There's no right way to pronounce a name! There's only the way you want it to be pronounced!" Ava frustratedly answers.
"Ava's right! It's your name, and it's unique and different, just like you!" Auggie argues.
"Well maybe I don't want to be different, maybe I want to fit in instead of being a freak! Did you ever think of it like that, huh?" Dewey asks quietly as he gathers his things and leaves Topanga's.
Auggie looks at Ava and asks, "What are we gonna do?"
"I don't know, but I think we just made it worse, if that's possible." Ava observes.
"Well that definitely helps, thank you for the totally non-obvious observation, Ava." Auggie says with sarcasm.
"Jeez, it's not my fault he's like that!" Ava says.
"Hmm but who's fault is it?" Auggie wonders.
"Huh? What do you mean?" Ava asks.
"The Dewey we know doesn't think like that, and he couldn't have changed so quickly in two days. I think someone's been telling him these things..."Auggie muses.
"Like a bully?...That is possible, but it doesn't tell us what to do." Ava says.
"I have a plan. Something like this happened to my sister and her friends once..." Auggie trails off.
"Well, what is it?" Ava asks impatiently.
"You'll have to wait and see tomorrow." Auggie says with a mischievous grin.
"Fine, I just want my tiara and ring anyway," Ava shrugs.
The class enters and they all sit at their usual seats. All of them including Mr.Matthews look at Dewey. He rolls his eyes at them and Mr.Matthews shoots Auggie a questioning glance and he nods. Cory grins and says, "I've missed saying this, Farkle Time!"
Farkle comes in through the door. *sitcom cheering* "Hello, class! Hi Mr.Matthews. I'll be taking over!" he announces.
"Let me tell you about myself, class. Through out my life, I was teased for having a weird name and for being different. Twice in my life, I tried changing myself based on what others thought, but my friends wouldn't let me. Real friends would love you for who you are, and won't let you change yourself for anyone. They don't do that to stop you from being cool or fitting in, they do that because they love you. I realised that I wouldn't be cool if I changed myself, I would be fake. Here's today's lesson, no matter what anyone says, it's what you think of yourself that's important. Think about that Dewey. Thank you! I am Farkle," he says with a bow.
Cory and the class clap and cheer as Dewey says, "That was a great speech Mr. Farkle, but it's with a silent w,"
Ava says, "Finally! It was getting old fast!"
Cory, Topanga, Farkle, Riley, Dewey, Maya, Auggie and Ava all sit at the Matthews' dinner table. "I heard that these two boys were walking in my and dad's footsteps! Nice job fixing Dewey guys! I couldn't have done it better," Riley proudly congratulates Farkle and Auggie.
"Aw thanks Riles! Do you have anything for us?" Farkle asks.
"Thanks Riley, but it was fun and I wouldn't dream of letting my friends lie to themselves!" Auggie responds.
"You're welcome and I do have something for you!" Riley says with a smile. She kisses both Farkle and Auggie on their foreheads.
Topanga smiles at them and says, "I'm so proud of you, you too Dewey! It takes a lot to get through bullying."
"Ho-how did you know?" Dewey asks, surprised.
Auggie replies, "Did you think that we would for a minute believe that our Dewey would be mean to us and change the name he loves so much out of nowhere?"
Dewey chuckles and says," I love you guys!" He gets up and hugs Auggie and Ava then returns to his seat.
Maya leans over to him and whispers, "Stick to that one, you'll need him."
"Right honey?" Maya asks Riley.
"Right Peaches. He'll need you too." Riley answers.
"Hey I helped too you know, pay attention to me!" Ava whines.
Auggie laughs and says, "Don't worry, I already ordered the tiara and ring."
"Wait-did you use my credit card?!" Topanga incredulously asks.
"Uh we're done eating-we're gonna study for the Spanish test tomorrow!" Auggie hurriedly announces as he drags Ava and Dewey upstairs.
"Get back here young man!" Topanga exclaims as she stomps up the stairs.
Farkle wraps his arm around Riley and says, "They're perfect for each other aren't they?"
Riley giggles and leans her head into the crook on his neck, "Just like us."
"That giggle is still my favourite sound in the world." Farkle replies.
Cory ruins the moment by yelling, "Topanga! Come back! It's so yuck now! Save me!"
Riley and Farkle laugh as Maya says, "He has a point, get a room you two!"
"I'm kind of busy trying to catch our other kid right now and I think it's sweet. We were like that once too, you know!" Topanga calls from upstairs.
"We weren't that bad," Cory grumbles.
Auggie runs down the stairs and looks at the scene before him and says, "Eww I'd rather take my chances with Godzilla!" He runs back up the stairs and stops in his tracks when an angry Topanga blocks his way while calmly saying, "Honey let's talk with Ava about my credit card, hmm?"
Auggie looks at the camera and says, "Goodbye sweet, sweet world!"
*sitcom laughter*
