The Towns Well
"Mom!"
Pit looked up and saw Gear walk in carrying a tray with some tea.
"Stop scaring him with those "readings" of yours!"
Crystal chuckled and let go of Pit's hand. Gear set the tray down on the coffee table and Crystal started to prepare the tea. "You know, those readings saved your life. You know I'm always right."
"I know, but he's new."
Crystal laughed whiled Gear sat next to Pit on the couch.
"Pit," stated Crystal. "I'm sure you're very tired. You can stay the night here."
The young woman handed Pit a cup of tea and he frowned.
"Are you sure? I don't want to be a bother and I heard about how your town is."
"Oh, hush now. It won't be a bother at all!"
"You can take my room, Pit." Chimed in Gear.
"Are you sure I--" Pit was interrupted by the young man.
"I'm sure."
Crystal fixed Gear a cup of tea and then sat next to Pit.
"Now that's out of the way, Pit, can I see your hand again?"
The angel took a sip of his tea and let the gypsy examine her hand.
"Now, this is very strange indeed."
"Really? What's wrong?" asked Pit.
"Well, you see this line is very unusual," Crystal traced the line as Pit took another sip of his tea. "This line here means you're already dead."
Pit spit out the tea and started coughing.
'Wh-What?! I'm dead?! That can't be!! That isn't right!!'
He then heard Gear groan.
"Mom! Stop playing that trick on all the new visitors!"
Crystal laughed and Pit sighed with relief.
~~~
The next day, Gear showed Pit around town again.
"Is it always this foggy?" Asked the angel.
"Yeah, most of the time. It's kind of like London."
"Ah. I see."
The two of them walked in silence. It was the one thing that the angel didn't like.
"Err....where are we headed now?"
Gear chuckled. "There's this small place outside of town. It's kind of like a meeting place around here. We call it 'KIM'."
"'Kim'?"
"KIM. Over the years, we've forgotten what it stood for but those are the letters engraved on the well. It's been there as long as anyone can remember, and is a proud relic in this town."
Pit and Gear looked behind them. Pit was shocked.
"Pit, this is Jack, The Sheriff of this town."
The man wore a dark blue police force outfit, the usual. The strange thing was that the man had deep crimson eyes and dark navy blue hair. Just like Dark Pit.
"Pit, huh? You're new around here?" The last sentence was more like a statement.
"Y-Yeah. You're...Jack?"
Gear chuckled, "If you got any problems, report them to old Jack-a-boy."
Jack rolled his eyes and shook his head.
"You people never change. Anyways, if you're heading out to KIM, try not to get too close to her. She's gotten old. Don't want anyone to fall down 'er."
Gear nodded, "I'll keep an eye out."
"Good. And don't go getting into trouble."
~~~
Gear and Pit arrived at the old well. The fog had mostly faded away and sunlight stained the ground. It was in the middle of a huge prairie with long grass that hadn't been cut in years.
"Wow..."
Pit was marveled at the beauty of the place. The young angel approached the well and looked down it. All he could see was darkness.
"Careful. I don't want Jack after me if you fall down."
"Right."
Pit backed up a bit and looked up at Gear. For a second the angel saw his eyes filled with sadness but then Gear blinked and he was back to his exuberant self.
"You know, we've never heard the bottom of the well."
This made the angel curious. "What do you mean?"
"If you throw a rock down KIM, it won't reach the bottom."
"Get out of here!"
"I'm serious."
Pit bent down and picked up a rock.
"Okay, if we hear this rock reach the bottom, you owe me a sundae."
Gear laughed, "That's it?"
"Yup!"
"Alright, if we DON'T hear the rock reach the bottom, which it won't--"
"It will!"
"Shut up! Let's see...You'll owe me...a memory."
"A memory?"
"A memory."
"Well....okay! You're on!" Pit threw the rock down the well and the two of them stood in silence for about five minuets, listening for a sharp clack.
They heard nothing.
"Well...." Pit turned around to face Gear. "I guess I owe you a--Gear? What's wrong?"
The young man had tears coming down his cheeks.
"I'm sorry," he whispered, before pushing Pit.
Pit tumbled backwards into KIMs mouth, falling down the dark passageway, screaming.
Gear fell to his knees and sobbed.
