Whistlin' Susie

Arabella's POV

"Hey, what's up. It's Jasper here, the friendly host!" Jasper greeted to the phone Charlotte was holding. "Here in the Man Cave and I'm about to take the five second banana challenge."

I rolled my eyes at his belief that he can actually eat all those bananas in five seconds. It's impossible.

"It cannot be done, Jasper!" Schwoz sighed, walking by and sitting at the monitor.

"Yeah, five seconds isn't enough, honey," Mary mentioned and I nodded.

"Anything is possible!" Jasper protested and right then my dad and Henry got shot down the tubes.

"That's not true at all," Charlotte denied.

"Alright, one more time," Jasper told us and I rolled my eyes, resting my chin on Mary's shoulder. "Hey, what's up, it's Jasper, and I'm about to take-"

My dad suddenly lasered the banana out of Jasper's hand and I grinned.

"Thank you!" I sighed with a smile, before going up to Henry and hugging him.

"What did I say about food challenges in the Man Cave?" My dad asked, before kissing Mary's cheek.

Jasper pouted, taking his phone back, "that only you can make them..."

Henry wrapped his arms around me and I leaned back into his chest, touching his hands.

"That's right!" My dad nodded, "oh, and by the way, I noticed that none of you commented on the food challenge video that I posted the other day."

——

-Other Day-

"What's up, guys! It's Captain Man! Cooling in the Man Cave! And I'm about to take the six second Sourkrout challenge!" My dad announced to the camera that Henry was recording with and I grimaced.

"Ew..." I mumbled.

"That smells disgusting," Henry mentioned.

"And...go!" My dad proclaimed, before shoving a bunch of Sourkrout into his mouth and it was disgusting. I couldn't bear to watch him eat any of it, because I might throw up. My dad paused for a moment, "hold on! I gotta sneeze!"

"No! Don't sneeze! Don't sneeze!" Henry protested and I moved back right as my dad sneezed all over the phone. Sourkrout got all over the lense and I whined in disgust.

"Ew...."

——

-Present Day-

"That was nasty, dude. No one likes food challenge videos," Henry mentioned and I nodded.

"Yeah, you're right. Kids shouldn't watch any videos online," my dad mentioned and gave something in the distance a smirk as we all agreed with him.

"Especially on Saturday's at 8/7 central!" I beam, before Henry and I winked at something.

"Alright, what's on the schedule today?" Henry asked as he took my hand and we walked over to the monitor Charlotte was at. "Any bad people need punching, any good people need saving?"

"Um...." Charlotte scrolled through the threats on the screen, but it said they were all resolved, "not really."

"Alright," Henry shrugged and I grinned, resting my head on Henry's shoulder as my dad spoke.

"That can only mean one thing..." We waited for an answer from my dad. "MOVIE DAY!"

We all cheered with excitement and ran around the place yelling out. Charlotte did a knee slide across the floor as Henry picked me up and I cheered loudly.

Schwoz went to the back and rolled out the small television as the boys, Mary, and I danced together.

"Hey, hey!" We stopped when Charlotte called to us and I noticed a large box with a note on it, "does anyone know what this big box is?"

"Na, na, don't ask about that, it's probably got work inside!" Henry objected and I nodded.

"But, there's a note from the Vice Mayor that says 'Please open this box right away,'" Charlotte informed us and I groaned.

"That can mean anything!" My dad waved her off and I nodded.

"Look, why don't I open it up and see what's inside?" Charlotte suggested the and six of us groaned at her.

"Please be popcorn..." Henry chanted as Charlotte began to open the box and the five of us joined in with his chant. Charlotte removed the lid and we were disappointed at the sight of a large object that was not popcorn.

"Ah, man," I sighed.

"Definitely not popcorn," Charlotte mentioned.

"You never know," Mary shrugged and went up to it. "It could be filled with popcorn."

"If only," I say, standing next to her. "But life isn't that nice."

"What is it?" Jasper asked.

"I'll tell ya what it is," my dad began. "It's a big steaming pile of work!"

Charlotte grabbed the tablet that was attached to the object and played the video that was on it. Mary and I leaned over to watch.

"Hello!" It was the Vice Mayor, "Captain Man! Kid Danger! I hate to drop a bomb on your like this, but the crate you just opened contains a bomb!"

We all gasped and moved away in terror. Mary leaped into my arms and I rolled my eyes at her.

"Girl, you are too old for this!" I snap and drop her on the floor.

My dad came over and helped Mary up as I folded my arms.

"Her name's Whistlin' Susie," the Vice Mayor continued. "And she's a World War II atomic weapon!"

"EXPLOSION!" Jasper yelled and jumped onto the couch as Charlotte yelled, hiding. Mary hugged my dad and I grabbed Henry's arm.

"She showed up in the basement at City Hall last week," the Vice Mayor explained. "Now, I'm the Vice Mayor, not the 'Roll the Dice' Mayor, so I don't want to take any chances with this thing, that's why I sent it to the Man Cave. I think it's probably safe there. And now...I'm done thinking about this."

The video ended and Schwoz approached the bomb, making me squirm closer to Henry.

"Schwoz!" I warn him, "get away from that thing!"

"Relax, it's not that dangerous," Schwoz assured us, before kicking it and we freaked out, making him sigh. "Atomic bombs don't just explode by themselves, you have to activate them first. As long as you don't start the timing sequence, this thing is basically one big rock!" He hit the bomb a few times. "See! Not active!"

The rest of us carefully approached the bomb, like a couple of monkeys and watched Henry smack the bomb. We yelled out, moving back and Henry smiled at us.

"That's actually kind of fun!" Henry chuckled, "smacking the bomb!"

"Let me try!" I step forward, pushing by Henry. I began to tap the tip of the bomb and chuckled with delight. "Join me!"

Slowly, Jasper, Henry, Charlotte, and Schwoz joined in. Eventually, my dad and Mary joined in, and we just vigorously smacked the bomb with absolutely joy and delight.

We stopped moments later and laughed.

"MOVIE DAY!" My dad cheered and we raced over to the couch to watch a movie.

——

We all sat on the couch watching the movie together. I was leaning into Henry's body, enjoying some popcorn and Mary was resting her head on my dad's shoulder, who was enjoying a soda and also had Whistlin' Susie on his lap as well. I know it's not active or anything, but if he spills that soda, we're all doomed.

Suddenly, Henry sneezed on me and I yelped, throwing my popcorn back and it hit Charlotte, who bumped into Jasper. This cause Jasper to drop his chocolate head into Schwoz's salsa, which made Mary made hit my dad and caused him to spill his soda.

"Ahhh!" Mary yelled and wiped her face. "My face! Schwoz! You splashed salsa in my eye and made me hit Ray!"

I shook my head and wiped Henry's spit off my face.

"That's because Jasper's chocolate head landed in my salsa!" Schwoz complained.

"That's because Charlotte bumped into me!" Jasper scolded."

"Because Bella threw her popcorn at me!"

"That's because Henry sneezed on me!" I exclaimed and glared at my boyfriend, "when I said were 'share things' I didn't mean each other's DNA!"

"Shhhh!" Henry shushed me and I frowned at me. "Listen."

Henry muted the tv and we all listened closely to the unfamiliar ticking sound, which was coming from the bomb.

Schwoz got up and carefully walked away from the couch. I wrapped my arms around Henry's neck and he pulled me close as all of us got suspicious of the bomb.

"Schwoz," my dad began as Mary wrapped her arms around his neck.

"Where you going, dude?" Henry asked him.

"Okay, remember when I said that Whistlin Susie can't explode unless she's active?" Schwoz reminded us.

"Yeah?!"

"Now, she's active!"

All of us freaked out and immediately moved away from the bomb. Henry picked me up and moved me behind the couch, holding me in his arms. Mary, Charlotte, and Jasper leaped over the couch as my dad stabilized the bomb, before backing away from it and Schwoz rushed into the back.

——

Now, Schwoz was trying his best to disable the bomb from exploding and the rest of us were waiting around nervously for him to disarm it. Henry was holding me in his arms and my dad was doing the same with Mary.

"Schwoz, you said this thing wasn't active, you said it was like a big rock!" Henry berated Schwoz.

"It was! Then Ray spilled soda on the timer and..." Schwoz rambled on, explaining what happened and I rolled my eyes at this. "Science! Science! Now it's active!"

"And now everyone in Swellview's gonna be vaporized!?" Charlotte questioned with worry

"No, no, no," Schwoz denied and we were relieved. "First, we will all catch fire and we will slowly painfully-"

We all stopped Schwoz from continuing and I groaned, burying my head into Henry's chest.

"Really Schwoz?" My dad asked, rubbing Mary's back.

"Just tell us how long we have until this thing blows," Henry began.

"Eh," Schwoz checked the time. "About six hours."

"Oh, great!" My dad smiled, releasing a scared Mary and sat down. "We can finish the movie!"

Mary whacked his arm and shook her head, "Schwoz, can't you just cut the wires and turn off the timer?"

"I don't know, these wired are old and not stable," Schwoz remarked. "Cutting the wires might work or cause explosion."

My dad sighed, standing up. "Enough talk! Either this works or it doesn't, give me the wire cutters!"

We all stopped my dad from cutting the wires and Mary took his shoulders.

"What?!" He asked.

"Or you can just load it up into the Man Truck, drive it out to the desert and cut the wires there?" Charlotte suggested and I nodded, letting go of Henry, but he kept his arm around me. "That way nobody in Swellview gets burnt to a crisp?"

My dad shrugged with uncertainty, "that's kind of a far drive. And I already got the wire cutters right here and I'm feeling pretty lucky!"

"Yeah, well, I don't feel like burning into a crisp!" I snap at him and my dad leaned back a little.

"Ray," Mary began and he sighed.

"Fine, I'll do it." I sighed with relief at his agreement. "Schwoz, will you show me what to do once I get it out the desert?"

"Hold my flashlight," Schwoz told Jasper as he went up to the bomb and Jasper switched on the flashlight.

"Holding!"

"It's simple, first you hold the orange wire with one hand," Schwoz began.

"Yep!"

"Then, with the other hand, you cut the yellow wire."

"Easy!" My dad said.

"And then with your third hand-"

"What?" I asked with confusion.

"You press the reset button." Schwoz continued as my dad stared at him with disbelief. "And then with your fourth hand-"

"No, no!" I protested with a sigh.

"That's not a plan!" Charlotte berated him.

"You need four hands to defuse this thing?" Jasper asked Schwoz with shock.

"One, two..." Schwoz counted my dad's arms and snapped his fingers. "Okay! New plan!"

I shook my head and leaned my head on Henry's shoulder.

"I figure out a way for Ray to grow two more arms-"

My dad groaned and Mary patted Schwoz's back.

"Do we have time for that?"

"Not a plan!"

"I appreciate the enthusiasm, but I don't want my boyfriend growing two more arms out of his body."

"I'm not opposed to the option," I shrugged and Henry squeezed my side.

"Ray, I gotta go with you," Henry declared and I stared up at him.

"What?" I asked him.

"No!" My dad chuckled.

"You heard Schwoz, dude," Henry objected. "You need four hands to turn this thing off."

"Yeah, but-"

"And I-" Henry cut my dad off and removed his arm from my shoulder, "took an oath to help you protect the people of Swellview, so I'm going."

This is something I'm opposed of. Henry gets so worried about me that he forgets that I worry about him and his safety. My dad's indestructible, but Henry isn't, and if something happens... I don't know what I'd do with myself if I lost Henry.

"It's too dangerous!" My dad argued as I walked by them and stood next to Mary.

"Says the guys who's about to cut wires to an atomic bomb, because he was 'feeling lucky,'" Henry retorted.

"That was a lie," my dad chuckled. "I wasn't feeling lucky at all!"

I rolled my eyes at him and bit my lip with nervousness.

"Wait!" Charlotte gasped, "Schwoz, remember when you were convinced there was gonna be a war between humans and bears?"

"Used to be?" Schwoz asked, "you just wait until Bear World I! It's coming, believe me! It's coming!"

I patted Schwoz's back and gave him a smile.

"Anyway, you still have that bear-proof suit you made, right?" Charlotte continued.

"Yeah, that bear-proof suit!" Henry grinned and I gave him a nervous look, "that thing ever work?"

Schwoz began to laugh, before staring off into the distance and laughed for a good twenty-five seconds. It confused us all until he stopped.

"Does that answer your question?" He asked and I raised my eyebrow.

"No," I denied.

"You've just been standing there laughing for about twenty-five seconds," Mary pointed out to him.

"Oh, well, the suit works," Schwoz shrugged.

"Good enough, Ray, I'm going with you," Henry declared and I sighed at this. Mary noticed my sorrow and rubbed my back.

My dad groaned, "fine! But if you die, I'm gonna kill you!"

"That's my job," I protest with a downcast mood and Charlotte gave me a worried look.

"You alright?"

I nodded at her words.

"Let's do this!" Henry laughed and hit the bomb, causing it to get knocked over and the rest of us backed up, yelling out in fear. The girls and I held each close and I glared at Henry.

Henry cringed and cleared his throat, "let's do this."

I let go of the girls and watched Henry walk under the tubes. I felt myself get even more worried for him and I just can't imagine what might happen if that bomb explodes. A bear suit can only do so much, before Henry gets hurt.

I just can't lose him.

Henry and my dad got changed into their superhero uniforms and as Mary was giving my dad a kiss goodbye, Henry approached me and I turned away from him.

"Hey, you okay?"

I rolled my eyes at this words, but nodded.

"Yes."

"But, don't I get a kiss goodbye?" He asked me and I turned to him with a small smile.

"Yeah," I say and kiss his lips, before walking passed him.

"Bella," he called to me and I turned to him. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing," I shrugged.

It's not like there's a possibility that my boyfriend could burnt to a crisp, but I'm fine and totally cool about it.

"But you don't seem fine-" He protested and I kissed his cheek.

"I'm fine!" I assured him, "now go defuse a bomb."

He gave me a smile, before hugging me and I smile with sadness.

"I love you."

"I love you too," I reply letting the hug linger for a bit, before he pulled away and left with my dad.

It's important to care about others, but there comes a point where you need to worry about yourself. Henry does a great job of forgetting about himself and it worries me a lot.

I can't lose my superhero.

——

After my dad and Henry left to take care of Whistlin' Susie, the rest of us we're just chillin' at the Man Cave. I went up to my room for a bit, because my stomach was beginning to ache and it wasn't a normal ache or the usual cramps I get once a month. It was different, like I couldn't describe the feeling it caused. It wasn't a sharp pain, it was a burning sensation, like all my insides had caught fire. The pain wasn't unbearable, I could handle it, but it wasn't a comfortable feeling that's for sure. For the past few weeks, I've been suffering this pain and it's worrying me. It's very constant as well, like it's almost set on a timer and has a specific time to start and stop and then it repeats itself.

I'm not pregnant, I know that. I would've probably figured it out by now. I mean my dad would be a little upset about it. Just a little though.

Mary appeared at my door and she gave me a concerned look.

"Hey, are you okay, babes?" She asked me, walking in and I nodded, holding my stomach.

"Never better," I remarked and she noticed my hands on my stomach.

"Are you sure?" She asked me and I backed up with a nervous look, "because, you look pale and you're holding your stomach. Are you going through another body image thing?"

I shook my head and walked passed her, "no, no I'm not. I'm fine, Mary, I am."

She didn't seemed convinced and sat down, patting my bed.

"Come sit next to momma!" She beamed and I rolled my eyes with a sigh.

"Mary, I'm fine." I say, before I take a seat next to her.

"Then let go of your stomach," she remarked.

"Mm?" I asked her.

"Let go of your stomach," she repeated and I sighed, removing my hands for a moment. My stomach ached with burning pain and I grabbed it, groaning as Mary rubbing my back. "Oh, Bella..."

"I'm fine," I groan.

"No, you're not," she denied. "Tell me what's wrong or else I'm gonna tell you father and he will most certainly drive back right now with Henry."

It's true, one time him and Henry were fighting crime a few hours from here and Schwoz had called to tell them that I had sprained my ankle and they immediately drove back to check on me. It's like I have my own superhero protection squad around here and recently it's been getting a little irritating.

It's the same thing with me getting upset with Henry not worrying about himself. This just gives him another reason to worry about me and for me to not worry about him.

I'm not defenseless and I hate it when some people say I am.

I turned to Mary with a sigh, "recently, I've been having these weird stomach pains and it's not a normal sort of pain, it's like all my insides have caught on fire."

"Are you pregnant?"

"No!" I exclaimed with a groan, "I'm not pregnant and don't plan on being pregnant for a long time!"

"I mean, you and Henry do spend a lot of time alone-"

"Will you forget the stupid pregnancy thing!" I snap at her and she lowers her head.

"Sorry..."

"I just..I just don't understand what's happening and I'm scared to tell my dad about it," I admit to her.

"I can see that, but this is important," Mary explained. "You promised you wouldn't keep these type of things from us."

"I promised I would tell you guys about my body image issues, not medical health issues." I protested and she rolled her eyes.

"Oh, same thing! Listen, Bella, if you don't do something now, this could get worse and you don't know what could come next," Mary explained. "We all love you and don't want anything bad happening to you."

I nodded and we hugged one another.

"Do the next right thing," she added on with a sweet smile, before getting up. "And if you don't, I'll speak up for ya."

She exited my room and I looked down, groaning in pain.

"Yeah, okay, maybe I should do something," I groan. "I'll ask Schwoz if he can scan my body."

I walked out of my room and let go of my stomach. I pretended to act like everything was fine as I approached Schwoz and Mary eyed me as I did.

"Hey, Schwoz," I begin and said man turned to me with a smile.

"Yes, Bella?"

"Can you-"

"Weren't Ray and Henry supposed to take Whistlin' Susie with them?" Jasper asked us, cutting me off and I gave him a look.

"Yes."

"Yep."

"Yeah, why?"

"She's still here!" Jasper pointed and we all looked up to see Whistlin' Susies chillin under the tubes.

Well, that's not right.

The five us began to yell out in fear and began to run around the man cave in panic.

——

We spent the next few hours calling and texting my dad and Henry, but they didn't pick up and we were getting worried about them. I hope something bad didn't happen to them.

"Did they answer?!" Mary asked with worry and I shook my head.

"No, and we keep getting the same message!" Charlotte exclaimed. "Listen!" She played the message, "we're sorry, the phone you are trying to call has been burned, badly! Please hang up and don't try again."

"Let's try again!" Jasper declared and I sighed at him. "Well, I don't know what else to do!"

I went to reply, but I noticed Schwoz trying to escape in the elevator with a white suit on and a hat.

"Woah, woah!" I object and Schwoz turns around, casually posing against the wall. "Are you trying to sneak away in the middle of an emergency?!"

Schwoz laughed nervously, "here's the thing-Yes!"

"Dude!"

"Get back here!" Mary yelled and ran over to Schwoz with Jasper trying to stop him.

——

"Okay, Schwoz, what do we do?!" Jasper exclaimed as Schwoz was trying to disarm the bomb manually.

"Can you diffuse the bomb without blowing us up?!" Charlotte asked him.

"Yes, yes! Yes, I see it now! There is a way!" Schwoz exclaimed and we were relieved.

"Yay!" I cheered and Mary hugged me from behind.

"Thank god!" Mary smiled.

"Okay, Jasper, you cut the orange wire," Schwoz instructed Jasper, before bending down to get something and Jasper cut the orange wire. "Right after one of the girls cuts the white wire."

My eyes grew as the bomb was now dinging.

"What?!" Jasper yelled and Schwoz stood up.

"Right after one of the girls cuts the white wire, you cut the-"

"I ALREADY CUT THR ORANGE WIRE!" Jasper yelled and my mouth feel open, grabbing Mary's arms that were around me out of fear.

Schwoz panicked, "why would you do that?!"

"BECAUSE YOU TOLD HIM TOO!" I shouted back and we argued for a little bit, until Schwoz panicked and I groaned.

"Schwoz!"

The tubes got shot down and Henry and my dad appeared and I sighed with relief.

"Where have you guys been, huh?!" Jasper shouted at the duo, who rushed over to the tubes.

"Finally!" I yell to them leaving Mary's arms and running into Henry's.

"You forgot to take Whistlin' Susie with you!" Mary scolded my dad.

"We know!" My dad snapped and she glared at him.

"Uh, what's going with her?!" Henry asked, noticing the open bomb.

"You see those little yellow things pulsating?" Schwoz asked, gesturing to the glowing balls on the bomb.

"I like how you say that," my dad grinned and Mary hit his arm.

"What about them?" Henry asked Schwoz.

"That's the core of the bomb and they're about to go boom!" Schwoz explained.

"Ahhh!" I yelled and Henry hold me tighter.

"So, you're saying that those three little balls are the only part of the bomb that actually explode?" Mary asked Schwoz.

"Yes! Think of them as three Swedish meatballs of mass destruction!" Schwoz explained with worry.

Mary gasped and patted her boyfriend, "babe, you gotta eat them."

"What?!" My dad asked her.

Henry nodded, "Mary's right, you gotta eat them. You gotta eat those tiny yellow meatballs!"

"No!" My dad denied.

"You're indestructible!" Charlotte beamed.

"Yes, yes, yes!" Schwoz exclaimed, "the core will explode inside your indestructible tummy!"

My dad swatted Schwoz's hands away, "get away from my tummy, Schwoz! Only Mary gets to pat it! I'm not gonna eat a bomb, okay? Forget it!"

My dad walked away and leaned on the tv. Mary approached him and patted his shoulder.

"Come on, babe." She begged and he didn't listen to him.

"Eat the bomb," Jasper began to chant.

"Don't do that," my dad protested, but Jasper continued to chant.

"Stop it!"

"Eat the bomb!" Henry and I joined in with him and soon everyone else did.

"Come on!" My dad groaned and Mary smiled at him, "you know I can't resist a chant! It's gonna hurt really bad when it explodes inside my tummy!"

We continued to chant and eventually my dad smiled, "okay! You wanna see me eat this bomb?! You really wanna see me eat it?! Cause I'll eat it! I'll eat that bomb right now!"

My dad took out the core with the three balls inside it, "but, only if you chant a little louder!"

We chanted louder and faster for my dad as he grabbed the first ball.

"Okay, here we go!" My dad shouted and popped the first ball into his mouth, chewing it and we cheered for him.

"Round two!" Jasper shouted and we encouraged him to eat the second one.

"You want another one?!" My dad asked us as we changed again, "numero Dos!" He popped the second one into his mouth and we cheered.

"Another one!"

"Third one!" We cheered as he grabbed the third ball.

"Going for the turkey baby!" My dad laughed, "down the gut!" He popped the third one into his mouth and we cheered again for him, until we could hear a faint whistle inside his belly. The five of us huddled together as my dad looked down.

My dad smirked, "ah, I get it, Whistlin' Susie, it whistles right before it's about to-GAHHH!"

I jumped back and Henry held my arms tightly as the bomb exploded and my dad's belly lit up like fire. Mary yelped with worry at the sight of my dad, who was stumbling back from the explosion, and Henry grabbed her hand for reassurance.

Eventually, my dad stood up straight and the explosion ended. He burped a small flame and smirked, "I'm ohhhhhh-Kay!"

We all cheered and Mary clapped, cheering with relief.

"Yes!" She laughed, "thank goodness!"

"You saved us all!" I giggled with delight.

"Group hug!" Jasper announced, but Schwoz stopped us.

"Ahhhhh! Hugging would be a bad idea right now!" Schwoz protested and I saw Mary pout at this.

"Aw..."

"Why?" My dad asked and we saw a green light emit from his stomach.

——

Later, we were all watching the same movie from before and I heard my dad's belly rumble as he groaned. Henry took my arms scooting me away from my dad, making everyone else scoot away as well. Mary gave my dad a sheepish smile.

"Love you."

"Cowards."
