Spelling Bee Hard

Arabella's POV

I was up in the store with Charlotte, Jasper, and Schwoz and we were watching the Captain Man and Kid Danger livestream. We weren't allowed to be down there, because, well, I don't think I need to explain why. Jasper kept calling, because he wanted to talk to them and my dad kept denying him, because of how annoying it got.

"Why does he keep disconnecting me?" Jasper asked.

"Probably because you keep calling him." Charlotte mentioned and Jasper waved her off.

"Alright, we've got another video call who goes by the name 'Mister E. Person." Kid Danger said.

"Oh! Mister E. Person!" My dad smiled and answered the call.

"It is I, Dr. Minyak!"

I audibly groaned at the sight. When does this dude give up?

"What do you want Minyak?" My dad snapped.

"To challenge you Captain Man!" Dr. Minyak smiled evilly.

"He wants to challenge you." Henry mentioned.

"Uh-huh, challenge accepted." My dad agreed.

"But you don't even know what that challenge is!" Minyak protested.

"Don't care because I can beat you at anything." My dad shrugged and Henry laughed.

"Yeah, so, what is your 'big challenge' for Captain Man?" Henry asked Minyak.

"Yeah, what do you want to lose to me at?" My dad asked him.

"Oh, I shall not lose, because I challenge you Captain Man to a contest of spelling!"

My dad's doomed.

"Spelling?" My dad asked with a chuckle.

"Yes, perhaps you know that Swellview's yearly spelling bee takes place next Friday!" Minyak explained.

"Uh-oh!" Charlotte gasped and she took my hand, pulling me to the back.

"Wait, where you and Bella going?" Jasper called.

"I wish I knew!" I called and Charlotte frantically opened the elevator door and pulled me inside. "What's going on?"

"I'm supposed to compete in the spelling bee!" She frantically replied.

"Oh." I say, "that's a problem."

"Uh-huh!"

We got down to the Man Cave and we both walked out in a hurry.

"Uh, you guys-"

"Just a second." My dad stopped Charlotte. "I find your comments offensive!"

"Well, I'm sorry." Henry apologized.

"You're just mean to me sometimes!" My dad pouted.

"Alright, okay, spell 'sometimes." Henry told him.

"What?"

"Spell sometimes." Henry repeated.

"Okay." My dad nodded, "S."

"Uh-huh."

"U."

"Wrong." Henry said and walked away.

"What? Well, that was a tricky one!" My dad protested.

"No, it really wasn't dude." Henry denied.

"I thought I was the one with a reading disorder." I mentioned and Henry laughed, "even I can spell that word."

"I don't need your sass, missy." My dad stubbornly said and I rolled my eyes.

"Just stating basic facts." I shrugged.

"Can I please say something?" Charlotte asked and we turned to her as the boys groaned.

"What?"

"What?"

"You can't do this." Charlotte told my dad.

"Why?" My dad asked.

"Because you can't spell." I cut in and my dad put his hand over my mouth.

"Shush."

I removed his hand and rolled my eyes.

"Because I'm gonna be in the spelling bee." Charlotte informed them.

"You?"

"Yeah, I've won the last three years in a row." Charlotte remarked, "and if I win this year, I'll by the first Swellviewan ever to win four years straight."

"Oh, Charlotte," my dad sighed, "Charlotte, Charlotte, Charlotte. You ever think about anybody but yourself?"

This is coming from the dude with hundreds of mirrors in his own bedroom so he can look at himself from every angle.

"What?"

"I can't have this one thing?" My dad asked.

"He just wants this one thing." Henry shrugged and I gave them a look.

"And you as my friend, you won't let me have this one moment in the sun to beat Mr. Minyak at spelling!" My dad proclaimed.

"Just one sunny moment." Henry added.

"Don't encourage him." I muttered to Henry and he put his hand over my mouth.

"Shh."

"But the guidance councilor at school said it would be great for me-"

"Yeah, yeah, great for you!" My dad interrupted and I took Henry's hand away. "But see, for you! Must it all be about you Charlotte!"

"Okay, fine." Charlotte agreed, "sorry!"

"I hope so." My dad said and we gave them a look.

"You're so dramatic." I told my dad.

"Go to your room." He pointed upstairs, "I don't need a sassy daughter down here right now."

"But I-"

"Go."

"But-"

"Go!"

I groaned and shoved passed him and Henry and stomped up to my room.

"Love you!"

I groaned at my dad's statement and shut the door.

——

Friday rolled around and it was time for the annual spelling bee. We had a plan on how my dad was gonna beat Minyak and win the spelling bee.

By using pieces of food items.

Schwoz and I were at the Man Cave and the both of us were gonna communicate with Henry and Jasper through wires they had. This means that Henry and Jasper were gonna be in the audience and when ever Schwoz and I say a letter, one of them would hold up a food item to nonverbally tell my father what letter comes next. It's a great plan, but I just hope nothing goes wrong. My tutor Mary was gonna be there, because one of her students is participating and she wanted to be there for support.

(Don't got confused when I talk about Mary and then the other Mary aka the dumb blonde one. Mary Carman won't be talking really, it's all the airhead)

"Is it all set up?" I asked Schwoz, sitting down on the couch with him.

"Yep!" He smiled.

The broadcast started and Trent and Mary popped on screen.

"Hello and welcome!" Trent greeted, "I'm Trent Overunder and this is Swellview's 42nd Annual Spelling Bee!"

I could hear the audience applauded and I smiled, clapping myself.

"This year, we have five bright young finalists and also, oddly, two adult men." Trent continued, "First, Swellview's very own, Captain Man!"

The crowd cheered for the beloved superhero as he got up and appreciated the love he received.

"And our final contestant is four time convicted felon, Dr Horatio T. Minyak."

The crowd booed Minyak as he stood up and Schwoz and I glared at the villain.

"Stick around because after this short break we'll be... right back." Mary announced and I rolled my eyes.

The commercials started and I got a text from Henry saying that him and Jasper has just arrived at the spelling bee

"Henry and Jasper just got to the spelling bee." I told Schwoz and he nodded.

"Kk."

Two minutes had passed and the broadcast came back on.

"And we are back here at the Swellview Spelling Bee where things are just about to get under way." Trent announced.

"That's right, Trent, and as tradition the first word goes to the winner from last year's spelling bee." Mary announced as Charlotte walked up to the microphone, "Surelote Pagee."

I rubbed my face when Mary pronounced Charlotte's name wrong.

"It's Charlotte Page." Charlotte corrected, "it's the same every year."

"Okay, Charlotte, your first word is imbecile.'" Trent told Charlotte and he glanced at Mary. "Imbecile."

That's right, Trent.

"Imbecile." Charlotte said, "I-M-B-E-C-I-L-E. Imbecile."

"That is correct!" Trent smiled and Mary rang the bell as the crowd cheered and I clapped.

Charlotte returned to her seat with a smile.

"Okay, up next is Carlos Calderon."

A boy with glasses approached the microphone as the crowd cheered for him. As Carlos was taking his turn, Schwoz and I contacted Henry and Jasper.

"Schwoz and Bella to Henry and Jasper." Schwoz spoke, "Schwoz and Bella to Henry and Jasper. Are you guys ready for a soundcheck?"

"Yep. Go." Henry said.

"Okay." I smiled and Schwoz gave me a nod. "HEY! THIS IS A SOUNDCHECK!"

I giggled when I heard noises and just assumed I scared them.

"Nice." Schwoz laughed and hi-fives me, before we turned back to the screen.

"-Souvenir." Carlos smiles.

"Correct!"

The crowd clapped as Mary rang the bell and he sat back down.

"Okay, now we have Dr. Minyak."

The crowd booed as Minyak got up and approached the microphone. "I'm read-Oh..." He noticed the microphone was too low and bent down to it. "I'm ready."

"Terrific. Your word it 'prodigious.'" Trent told him, "prodigious-"

"P-R-O-D-I-G-I-O-U-S." Minyak quickly spelled and my eyes grew. "Prodigious! Wah! That was correct!"

"Hey! I'm the one who gets to say if it's correct!" Trent protested and Minyak stood up, "that is correct."

Mary rang the bell and Minhak sat back down with  a glare on his face.

"Now to spell his first word of the bee, Captain Man!"

Everyone cheered for my dad as he stood up and approached the microphone with a heartfelt smile.

"Your word is 'hypotenuse.'" Trent told him and I sighed.

Oh boy.

"Of course, 'hypotenuse' similar to the rhinoceros. I believe the word 'hypotenuse is spelled..." He trailed off and waited for a letter.

I searched up the word and showed Schwoz.

"H."

"H!" My dad began.

"Y!"

"Y!"

"P!"

"P!"

"O!"

"O!"

"T!"

"T!"

"E!"

"E!"

"N!"

"N!"

"U!"

"U!"

"S!"

"S!"

"E!"

"E!"

"Yes!" Schwoz and I cheered and clapped together.

"Hypotenuse!" My dad smiled.

"That is correct!" Trent said and Mary rang the bell as the crowd cheered for him.

——

"-M-O-N-T-A-G-E." Isabella, another contestant, spelled. "Montage."

Ding!

The spelling bee continued forward and Carlos was the first to go, which was sad because he seemed so sweet. Dr. Minyak wasn't even trying, he was just casually talking on the phone and spelling the words with ease. My dad spelt another word correctly, which was good.

As another contestant was going, but Minyak shot a rubber band at his face and caused the kid to get buzzed out. When Charlotte was going, she knew Minyak was gonna bother her, so when he tried to mess her up she bonked him in the head with the microphone. Honestly, that just made my entire day.

My dad spelt another word correctly and did a victory lap around the place for his celebration. Isabella went again, but Minyak scared her and caused her to spell the word wrong.

Now, it was down to the final three. Charlotte, my dad, and Minyuck. I'm sorry, Minyak, my bad.

"And we're finally down to our final three finalists!"

The crowd cheered for them.

"We sure are Mary, but since it's been five hours since we took a break, if anyone would like to visit the restroom, now would be a great time-" Trent paused when half of the audience got up and ran to the restroom, including Mary, and the broadcast went to commercial break after that.

——

The broadcast came back after a short break.

"And we're back again!"

Ding!

The crowd cheered.

"We started with seven spellers, but four of them were defeated! They're gone!" Trent announced and continued to speak, but I stopped listening when my phone began to ring. It was Henry.

"Hola, babe." I greeted, putting it on speaker so Schwoz could hear.

"And Schwoz is here!" Schwoz smiled.

"Hey, guys, we've got a big problem." Henry told us.

"What happened?" I asked him with worry.

"Jasper got thrown out of the spelling bee and-and some guy ate a bunch of my foods." Henry explained with panic.

"Then how are you gonna help Ray spell words, he's to stupid to spell by himself." Schwoz remarked and I gave him a look.

"Hey... you shouldn't say that out loud, only I get to." I objected.

"That's the problem." Henry said, "look, if we can't help Ray spell then... we've got to find out a way to make Minyak lose."

"How?" I asked and Schwoz gasped.

"Oh, I know what to do!" Schwoz said and ran over to the monitor with me behind him.

"Tell me. Tell me." Henry said and I stood behind Schwoz at the monitor.

"Okay, after Dr. Minayk spells his next word you stand up and challenge the spelling." Schwoz explained.

"But if he spells it right, why should I challenge it?" Henry reasoned.

"Because I'm gonna change the spelling of whatever word he spells." Schwoz explained.

"Dude, you can't change the spelling of a word." Henry reasoned and Schwoz and I both chuckled.

"Yes, he can." I smiled and Schwoz grinned.

Never underestimate Schwoz Schwartz.

"How?"

"With the internet!" Schwoz exclaimed as he typed and connected to the internet dictionary database.

"You're gonna change the spelling of a word on the internet?" Henry questioned.

"Yeah, if you let Bella and I hang up on this telephone!" Schwoz said in a rush.

"Yeah, yeah, okay, okay." Henry said, "let me talk to Bella."

"Challenge the spelling!" Schwoz exclaimed and I took my phone back.

"Okay, I got it." Henry sighed and I moved away to talk to Henry as Schwoz worked on changing whatever word Minyak spells.

"Yes, babe?" I smiled.

"Just wanted to say hi." He said, "and that I miss you. It's been almost six hours since I saw you."

I giggled, "Henry, that's not that long. We've been apart for longer."

"I know, but I love you and like being with you."

"I love you too, but we need to focus on the stopping Minyak from winning." I told him.

"I know." He said and I giggled, "okay, see ya, Airy."

"Bye babe." I hung up and turned back to Schwoz to see that Minyak was up.

"Dr. Minyak."

Everyone booed for the villain as he went up to the microphone.

"Okay, Dr. Minyak, you're word is Zeitgeist."

Minyak smiled, "zeitgeist! Z-E-I-T-G-E-I-S-T! Zeitgeist! TA!

"Correct."

Ding!

The crowed groaned for his success and I prayed that Henry was gonna challenge.

"Wait!" I heard Henry call, "I-uh- I challenge!"

"Uh, young man, Dr. Minyak spelled the word correctly." Trent told him as Mary checked the spelling of the word in the dictionary.

"Yeah, it's right here, in this dictionary book." Mary informed, lifting up the book.

"Right, but, um, the internet is way more up to date then dictionary books, which are made from trees!" Henry scoffed and I smiled as the crowd murmured, "am I right?"

Trent told the employee to check the spelling of the word on the internet as Schwoz tried his hardest to change the spelling of the word.

"Almost...almost." Schwoz said, right before the database updated and Schwoz successfully changed the word.

"Okay, the correct spelling for 'Zeitgeist' is..." The employee read the word, '"Z-E-I-T-G-E-I-S-T-Q."

The crowd gasped in shook and confusion as Schwoz jumped up and cheered.

"Yes!"

"Wooo!" I cheered and we both danced in celebration together.

"Ah! Yes!" My dad said, "you can't forget the final 'Q' in the word 'Zeitgeistq."

"Alright, it seems that our dictionary book is wrong which means so is Dr. Minyak." Trent confirmed and I smirked.

"That's right, Trent." Mary smiled, closing the book and hit the buzzer. "You're outta here!"

The crowed cheered as Minyak protested.

"Come on! What sorta of bee is this?!" Minyak objected, marching up to them.

"Um, it's the sort of bee you just lost, Minyak." My dad laughed, "you better get your tricycle ready to ride to California and back! Hahahahaha!"

"Yeah, Minyak!"

Everyone stared at Henry as he shouted that and he awkwardly looked around.

"Yeah."

He sat down after that.

"Well, excuse me, Captain Man, but you haven't won this bee yet." Minyak objected and my dad waved him off. "If that girl wins, then you also lose! And you will have to peddle with me to California...and back!"

"Oh yeah." My dad said with realization. "Right."

Minyak laughed as he sat down. "Yesss! Hahaha!"

"Okay, Captain Man, your word to spell is 'pectoral.'" Trent told a nervous looking father of mine.

"Pectoral, okay, no problem." My dad said into the microphone, "I believe pectoral is spelled..." he trailed off waiting for Henry, who couldn't help him out and my dad became a little worried. Schwoz and I both bit our nails nervously as my dad began to talk again. "Okay, uh, ''pectoral,' well, obviously it starts with a 'p,' right? Followed by an 'e!' I nodded and grabbed Schwoz's shoulders in anticipation. "And then....'c!" My dad thought for a moment and Schwoz stood up with anticipation and I leaned forward.

"Come on!" I yelled.

"T! Uh.....O-O???....R!"

"Just two more letters to go!"

"Hey!" Minyak called out to Mary, "she can't tell him that!"

"I'll allow it." Trent remarked.

"And the last two letters are..." my dad began, "....a??" Suddenly, my dad smiled and glanced back at Minyak and then at Charlotte, who looked downcast and sad.

I felt bad for my best friend, she really wants this. My dad's smiled faded and looked back out at the audience. I made fade as he began to think for a few moments and I saw him smile at his thoughts.

My dad came back to reality moments later and lifted his head.

"W."

My eyes grew as he said that and Schwoz groaned, falling back into his seat.

"What?" I said as the crowd murmured in shock and I sort of smiled.

He messed up for Charlotte. He did this for Charlotte.

"Wrong." Trent said and my dad shrugged, "you're Captain Wrong."

Mary buzzer him out and he sat down as Charlotte approached the microphone with a smile.

Under all that egotistical stuff, my dad is a good person.

"Okay, Charlotte, if you can spell 'pectoral' then you win." Trent explained.

"P-E-C-T-O-R-A-L." Charlotte spelled, "Pectoral."

Ding!

The crowed cheered for her as they got up and approached her and I yelled with excitement

"Yes! That's my best friend!" I cheered as she received her crown and flowers. "Go Charlotte! Woooooo!"

Schwoz began to cry tears of joy and I rubbed his back as he cried into my shirt.

It was a sweet moment for Charlotte, but my dad still has to peddle to California and back with Minyak.

——

Trying my best to have more Schwoz/Bella moments along with Jasper/Bella and Charlotte/Bella. Her and Schwoz have an uncle and niece relationship I guess, even thought they aren't related at all.

See ya in the next chapter💕
