Unemployment Line

"You're fired! Get out!"He yelled at me.

"For what? I didn't even do anything!"I said while having literally eight burgers in my purse. Hey, I work here I have a right to their food.

"Customers have been complaining that food they ordered never made it to them ! I investigated the situation-"

"Oh so you're a private eye now? Oh I didn't know I was working for Bo Dietl."I spat sarcastically at my former employer.

"Bonnie, we saw you eating their food! There were witnesses! Don't we pay you enough to have your own meals?"He shouted as I rolled my eyes.

"Yeah, but the food looked good and I thought it was okay since I like...worked here."I shrugged as he squinted those beady eyes as me. So Mr. Keebler is my boss...now my former boss. He was the manager of this joint which is a bar slash diner called the Dark Corner where I was working as a hostess. Look, this place is packed all the time because the food is so bomb. I can't even eat here for lunch it's so crowded so I take it when no one is looking. I knew I was going to get caught eventually but I didn't even care at this point so I was just stealing food for no reason.

"You've been doing it for months! You're so thin but you eat like a grown man! Just go Bonnie, please."He pinched the bridge of his nose as he leaned back in his chair.

"Dude, C'mon. I need this job. Like it's either this or I go back to retail. Don't let me go back there, Keebs."I leaned into his desk. He sighed deeply.

"I can't, Bonnie. I had high hopes for you and you do this? That's not who I hired. Look, just because I like you I'll write you a recommendation. Just don't go stealing food anymore. And I can literally see the burgers in the purse."He said to me.

"That's cool...Catch you on the flip side, Keebs."I smiled exiting his office then faced all my coworkers.

"Oh my god, Bonnie! I'm so-"Monica came up to me with open arms but I dodged her swiftly. Ohhhh this bitch.

"Don't touch me. I got fired and I know you snitched. Also I heard you talking so much shit about me, saying you hate me and how I'm a low life. So before I go and since I never have to see you ever again I just want to let you know that I fucked your brother."I smiled leaving Monica stunned as Richie high fived me on my way out. I wasn't lying either, I screwed her brother many times. Most the times in her bed. I know that was irrelevant but I got fired so I can say what I want to her.

"That's my girl! I'll see you later!"Richie is my best friend. He's actually the reason I started working here. He didn't want to be alone so he asked me to work here with him. I worked here for about seven months and have been stealing food for about two. Impressive right? I know.

"Fuck you all!"I shouted before kicking open the door with my black sneakers. Then it hit me: I'm fucking jobless. Aw shit! I got rent! I have bills to pay! I fucked up badly. Good going, Bonnie, you always have to screw up don't you.

Looking down at my phone I caught my reflection gazing back at me. Caramel colored skin, curly ass hair, big blue eyes. Damn, I am a good looking bastard. Unlocking my phone, I called my roommate slash best friend.

"Hello?"Her voice answered.

"Yeah, they found out and fired my ass. But I stole eight burgers for us. It was supposed to be four for me and four for you but since I got caught, I need five."I sighed running a hand through my black hair then it got caught in my curls.

"Told you so, dumb ass. Just hurry up and come home so we can find you a new job."Janis said into the phone. I could tell she rolled her eyes just by her tone.

"I gotta go see my dad first. I'm actually waiting for the bus as we speak."I started walking towards the bus stop as I saw the bus approaching.

"No problem, boss. Tell him I said hi."

"My dad hates you."I snickered getting out my change to get on the bus. As I did, I proceeded to walk to the back.

"I know. I just love to bother him even when I'm not there. It's satisfying."She said and I could tell the asshole was smiling. My dad lived about 5 stops away so it shouldn't be a long ride there. While my dad lived on my side of town, my mother lived all the way across because she didn't want to be anywhere around my dad. No, they aren't divorced just separated. When my mom said she wanted a divorce, my dad looked up at her from the tv and literally just said no and carried on. So since she couldn't stand to see his "pale ass face" she moved. My little sister, Cali juggles between both of their houses while me and Zeke each have our own place.

"Why does he hate you so much?"I asked as a little kid stared at me with big brown eyes.

"Remember when we was 10 and I used to do the paper route? Well, I used to aim for your dad every time I threw a paper. He caught on that I did it on purpose. Good times."She sighed as I laughed. The little girl was still staring at me so I gave her a funny face causing her to go into a fit of laughter. Her mom looked at her like she was crazy then looked at me with a raised up eyebrow.

"My dad complained about that and my mom told him he was just paranoid. You caused my dad so much hell."I said noticing that I was only two stops away.

"I know, it was hilarious. I miss our old neighborhood."

"I'm literally always there. But Jan, I'm about to get off. I'll see you and Rich later."

"Okay, Bonnie. Talk to you later."She hung up as I deeply exhaled. Ugh, I'm kinda pissed that I got fired but it was my own fault. Honestly, I thought I would just get a little slap on the wrist and everything would be all good but noooo they fired me.

This was my stop so I got off the bus and headed straight to my dad's house. It's hot as balls out here. This is why I can't stand the summer sometimes. Walking into the porch, I knocked on the door waiting for my dad to answer. He takes forever.

"Did your mom get hurt or something?"He asked me opening the door.

"What? No, dad!"I entered my childhood home. Ahhh, the feeling of nostalgia hit me.

"Then why are you here so early?"

"Dad, it's probably like 1 o'clock."

"It's 8:48, sweetie. Cali didn't even leave for school yet. Why are you here so early?"My dad crossed his arms as he focused his baby blues on me.

"If you must know, nosy... I got fired."I sighed flopping down on the ugly brown couch. My dad hates this couch so much, when we were kids he would purposely spill stuff on it in hopes that my mom would get a new one...she never did. Actually, she left it here just to piss him off. Nice job, mom.

"Aw, damn it, Bonnie. Again? What did you do now?"He asked sitting on the coffee table, directly across from me. I never noticed how young he looks. Well, he is only 41. My parents had me when they were 16, and I'm 25 going on 26. I'm older than Zeke by two years and Cali by 10 years. I know, I'm so old."Earth to Bonnie."

"I um...will feel less ashamed of myself if I didn't tell you. But I need a job, asap."I couldn't tell my dad the reason why. He'd be so disappointed in me.

"Shoulda thought of that before you got fired, kiddo."He chuckled."Do you need money or anything?"

"Nooooo. Do not give me money, dad. I'm only going to buy unnecessary amounts of food then get kicked out of my apartment."I sprawled out on the ugly couch as my dad looked at me. He sighed then rubbed his face.

"Actually my boss, Oscar, recently told me that what's his face needed a nanny."He snapped his fingers, trying to recall the name.

"Oh my god! What's his face! I love him, dad, he's so dreamy."I replied sarcastically before rolling my eyes.

"Uhhh Nathaniel Kane, that rich guy who lives on the other side of town. I heard him and his wife divorced and he got custody of his three kids so he needs the help. His previous nannies quit constantly and he's looking for a permanent one. I mean it's a live-in job but it pays well. So I figured since you have nothing to do anymore, I could tell Oscar to put in a good word."

"Woah, a live-in job, dad? I mean I got a life, y'know."I sat up looking at my dad as he furrowed his brows.

"No you don't. You literally come here every weekend and shoot firecrackers at bystanders from the attic window. I'm telling Oscar that you're interested."He smiled whipping out his phone. My dad was always helping me even when I didn't want him to. He's such a good person.

"I have a life."I mumbled. I really don't have a life. The only thing I do on the weekend is watch Netflix, get high, or occasionally go out."But I know nothing about kids. What if these kids are like freakin' Chuckie?"

"What are you talking about? You babysat Zeke and Cali all the time. It's too late anyway, I texted him saying you wanted the job."He smirked as my eyes widened."Quit being lazy, Bon Bon."

I flopped backwards onto the couch. Great, he's trying to trap me with a bunch of rugrats. Hopefully, I'm not the only one who wants this job. Pfft, I highly doubt I am. Working for some rich slub and all you have to do is watch his kids is a dream for some.

"I just want to help you."He sighed running a hand through his dark brown hair. On his left hand, he still wore his wedding ring. I'm actually surprised he still does since my mom acts kinda bitchy towards him and I feels so bad because he's such a nice guy...Well, it depends on who you are. I loved both my parents to death but I connected with my dad more since we were always close. He let me have fun and see the world while my mom kept me straight and in line.

"Don't get all soppy on me, dad. I appreciate what you did and thank you."I gave him a hug and kissed his cheek causing him to smile back at me."Now, your daughter whose recently been fired is starving so order her some pizza stat."

"Coming right up."He ruffled my curls before standing up. I took out my phone to kill the time while I waited. I wonder if I'll actually get an interview for this job. He left to go to the kitchen and I heard my sister coming down the stairs. The minute she reached the last step and seen me in the living room, a disgusted look came over her face.

"Ew."She said.

"Ugh."I groaned.

"Why are you here? What happened, lost another job?"She teased with a smug look."Sad, isn't it?"

"Sad like how you lie about your age to get into a club?"I smirked. As you can see, me and Cali did not have the best relationship. For some reason unknown to me she freaking hates me. I swear like I could breathe out and she would suck her teeth. Then she insults me constantly. I'm a grown woman so if she comes at me I'm going to retaliate and roast her.

"Mhm says the one without a boyfriend. Pathetic. At least I can get any guy I want. You only get them when you're wasted."

"Look at who's cocky now? Literally. You know what's really funny? When I heard about this movie called Sausage party, I was shocked at first because I thought they finally gave you a documentary about your Saturday nights."I could tell that made her highly upset by her silence. Since she wants to act like she's an adult by throwing insults like that I'm going to insult her like an adult.

"I wish you were never born!"She said.

"Well, without me you probably wouldn't even be here. You better go to school before I tell dad where you really was last week. You're really testing me, Cali. I'm really trying to be a good sister but you're totally screwing it up. Just...go."I said to her. There was something in her eyes that I never saw before. I don't know what it was but it was different.

"Whatever...Dad! I'm going to school! Bye!"Her voice was noticeably shaky as she left out the door quickly. I never wanted us to be like this. I wanted us to be as close as me and Zeke are but she didn't even want to be in the same room as me. It's difficult now. How am I supposed to build a relationship with those Kane kids when I can't even have a stable one with my sister. Damn.
