Purpose of this booklet (tập sách)

We focus on writing academic essays, because this is a skill student's need in most university courses, and is a skill that can be transferred to assessments in other units.

Our philosophy aligns with the old proverb: [Triết lý của chúng tôi phù hợp với câu tục ngữ cổ}
"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, but teach him to fish, you feed him for life." 

The academic world 

The 'academic world' and the 'real world' are not the same. 

- The real world is where we experience our lives – we live and work, raise children, play or watch sport, spend time with family and friends and interact with the natural world. A lot of what we know about the real world is from our experiences. - The academic world on the other hand is one of theories, explanations, ideas and critiques (phê bình). We can't experience them the same way as we experience the real world, through seeing, hearing, touching, tasting, smelling. In the academic world, we learn from what is spoken, or more often written, about the world. This means that in the academic world you learn at second hand, from what other people have written, rather than from your own experience. Levin (2004, p 5) argues that:"The culture of higher education in the Western world is very much a culture of the written world".

Rules of the game (essay writing)

- You must analyse the question carefully to make sure you answer what is asked.
- You must use formal academic English – not slang or txt language.
- You cannot just write your opinion. You must back everything you write with evidence (what other people have written).
- You must not copy other people's work (plagiarism).

TASK 1: ĐỀ BÀI 

Essay: (166 words)

The line graph details the percentage of entire music sales via streams, downloads and CDs purchased from 2011 to 2018.

Overall, it is clear that the number of streams is increasing annually, whereas the number of people consuming physical albums is steadily decreasing. The number of downloads of digital music products generally tends to slow down gradually over the past 6 years.

From 2011 to mid-2014, the number of music streaming starts steadily improving from 5% to about 15%, along with the total number of product downloads also growing from 35% to over 40 % in mid-2014. Also in this period, CD sales tend to decrease significantly from more than 55% to about 35%.

Four years later, the number of streams on the digital music platform began to increase sharply from 25% to more than 40%. Besides, the number of downloads and the number of CDs sold slowly decreased over time from 42% and 35% respectively in mid-2014 to about 30% and above 25% in mid-2018.
