Dance With Me?

Larry stood in the cold, outside the cafeteria, where the winter dance was being held. The music was being blasted to its full potential, which was being DJ'ed by Asor, of course. He shivered as he waited for his princess, Mya. He blushed whenever he thought of her. Then she appeared.

Larry's eyes grew bigger as she took a step closer. Mya walked and stopped in front of him three feet apart. Mya was wearing a dark red dress that touched her knees.

"Y-you look beautiful tonight." Larry stuttered.

"Thanks! Broomy thinks I do too!" Aaron replied, taking the compliment that was obviously not meant for him. He clutched the broom that he was holding closer to him.

"Couldn't get anyone to go with you, huh?" Mya asked smirking.

Aaron quickly looked down, embarrassed. "Anyway, Broomy and I are going to go dance now!" He said as he shuffled away.

Mya then turned to Larry and blushed, "You look great too, Larry!"

He smiled at her in response. "Shall we go in?" Larry asked.

Mya nodded. They intertwined hands and walked together into the cafeteria where the dance was being held. Kids were dancing, standing in the middle of the cafeteria, which was decorated to look like a knock off ballroom. It was all the teachers could do with their painfully low salaries.

Were we something or just some really good friends? Larry thought to himself.

"What do you want to do first?" Mya asked, snapping Larry out of his thoughts.

"Uhh. . . What do you want to do first?" He countered back.

"Whatever you want to do." Mya shrugged.

"But I don't know what I want to do..." Larry mumbled.

She thought for a second then reached for his hand. "I know! Let's go say hi to Asor!"

. . .

Asor was in a whole other world. Everything he was wearing was gleaming. The theme of the dance was to dress up as if you were invited to the Red Carpet.

"Hey, hey, hey! How are you guys?" Asor said when he noticed them coming over.

"Pretty good, Ace. I just feel really bad for Aaron over there..." Larry said trailing off.

They all looked in Aaron's direction where he kept dropping his broom and then accidentally hit someone over the head with it.

Asor chuckled. "He'll be fine. Enjoy the complimentary soda and pizza that we stole from the local teacher's lounge."

"We will!" Mya said rushing over to the food table.

Aaron's POV

Broomy kept falling over multiple times, boy was she clumsy.

Eventually, we were asked to leave by the teachers but in the process, I ended up hitting Ms. Noid instead.

And when that happened we did what anyone would do: we fled. That night is when we began our night of crime. We ran across the dance floor, all eyes cast at us. I dragged Broomy with me as I ran, she whacked some people with no mercy on the way out.

I hid under the refreshments table that had the stolen goods. We sat there for a second recovering from the mini chase then Broomy made a move.

Broomy leaned in and kissed me.

Suddenly we were interrupted by my best friends, Mya and Larry.

"Aaron," Mya asked with concern in her voice.

"Why are you smacking yourself in the head with a broom?" Larry finished as he took a sip of his soda.

My face turned so red that a tomato would've have been jealous.

"Uh. . . we were just hanging out!" I lied.

"Under the table...?" Mya asked, not completely convinced.

"Psh! Leave me be, peasants!" I told them, as I scooted away to another table.

I didn't want to get in the way of their relationship, after all, Larry was going to tell Mya his feelings tonight.

Besides, I still had Broomy with me. They might call me crazy but I loved her. The way her handle would light up a room drove me crazy. Bob, a classmate from my third-period math class went up to me. He tried talking some sense into me by telling me to go dance with some 'real' girls.

Bob told me that I should ask my major crush to dance but I just couldn't bring myself to do that tonight. Especially tonight.

I declined to dance with my crush and looked at Broomy instead. I looked at her handle deeply and asked her, "Dance with me?"

She said nothing for an hour, but the way she excitedly tripped Bob an hour ago meant she felt crazy about me too.

I dragged her to the middle of the dance floor, my confidence slowly regaining. We twirled each other back and forth until half the dance floor comprised unconscious people.

The principal in the corner spotted me running in Broomy and I's direction. I frantically looked for an exit, a way out of this place. I grabbed Broomy and sprinted out the double doors.

3rd Person POV

"Is that Aaron running out with his broomstick girlfriend?" Mya laughed.

"It appears so." Larry ran his fingers through his chestnut-colored hair. "So Mya, I need to tell you something really important."

"You have my full attention." A smile flashed across Mya's face.

Larry took in a deep breath and said, "Mya, I-I like you... Would you go out with me sometime?"

Mya's smile grew. "O-m-g, yes! I thought you'd never ask." She hugged him.

Larry had never in his life felt so complete.

It had been only a year ago when he sacrificed himself for her during the classroom war but it felt as though they had been together forever.

When she came out of the hug, she asked, "Wanna get Asor and ditch the dance to go find Aaron? I'm worried about him. He ran out real fast and he like never runs."

"Yeah, that sounds good," Larry told Mya.

They got Asor and left the dance. Bob agreed to substitute for Asor.

"Aaron! Aaron, where are you?" Larry shouted into the night. They called for him but received no answer.

Aaron's POV

I ran and ran until I ran out of breath. A log was in my way and I gracefully jumped over it but Broomy, however, didn't make it over.

She broke in half in my arms. I fell on my knees, cradling her close while she splintered my face.

"We're going to find help," I whispered into her handle. "I promise."

I stopped in town and looked for directions to the hospital. Instead, I stopped in front of a cleaning store. It was cold outside, along with me and Broomy. She was shivering, I couldn't bear to see her in this condition any longer.

The cashier rose an eyebrow as I walked in. Jealous, I assumed of Broomy and I's love. The bell dinged when I opened the door. I didn't have any money or anything so I pretended to make it look like I was going to buy something.

I got instantly bored and walked over to the cashier. He was a middle-aged man, his hair grayed, his ears giant with a name tag that sat on his shirt that read Carl.

"Carl, you gotta help me. Broomy's on the verge of death." I frantically said, words spilling out of my mouth.

He put up a finger since he was on the phone; I waited.

3rd person POV

"Look, footprints!" Asor pointed out. "Let's follow 'em."

They followed the footprints silently so they wouldn't attract attention. Then Larry broke the silence.

"So, Mya and I are a thing now," Larry announced proudly.

"Congrats. Took you long enough though." Asor replied, his eyes cast at the footprints.

They followed the footprints all the way into town then the prints suddenly stopped!

"Ugh, we're never going to find him now! He could be anywhere." Larry said.

"Wait! That looks like him over there. In that cleaning supply shop!" Mya pointed out.

"Of course! He's probably cheating on Broomy, or maybe he's proposing! I bet he'd say something like this: Broomy, you have swept me off my feet and the past hours with you have been-"

Mya cut Asor off and pushed them towards the shop.

Aaron's POV

"Yo, Bart! We got a boy who needs ya help!" Carl yelled towards a back door.

He then looked at me and said, "Don't worry, our broom specialist is on his way." He said stifling a laugh.

I was so nervous that I almost peed myself but I kept it together, for Broomy. A young dude suddenly appeared.

"Whatcha need son?" Bart asked. Bart looked like something of a college drop out.

"My girlfriend, Broomy, she broke her uh. . . everything." I said.

"Hm... I see." He grabbed out some tools and examined Broomy furthermore.

"Hey! Keep in mind that's my lady, sir." I reminded Bart.

The guy looked at me then back at Broomy.

"This is no woman. Broomy is male. The handle on this broom is curved thus it is male." He said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

I recoiled in horror and flashed back to earlier tonight. I cringed, shuddered, and regretted.

"Broomy! When were you gonna tell me?!" I slapped him on the bottom then realized he was still in pain.

"Sorry. . ." I apologized.

My best friends, out of nowhere just randomly rushed in. How did they find me?

3rd POV (No One's POV)

They all ran and pounced unto Aaron.

"Dude," Asor began, "Don't scare us like that!" He said while hugging Aaron in their little group hug.

"Guys! We're in the middle of a surgery. Broomy 's been hurt!" Aaron said worriedly.

"Well, I'm sorry. We left the dance and came all this way to find you and all you care about is your dumb broom!" Mya said.

"Yeah!" Larry and Asor agreed in unison.

"Shh!" The broom specialist shushed. "I need silence."

The kids watched as the specialist's hands moved swiftly filling in cracks, taping this and that. Bart turned around and walked into the back and came back a minute later.

"I'm afraid to say that. . . Broomy didn't make it." Bart said sadly.

Everyone turned to Aaron awaiting his reaction. "Eh, that's all right. Like they say there's plenty of other brooms in the broom shop. Besides I don't think the relationship was going to last anyway,"

Aaron looked around before whispering, "Broomy was a guy this whole time!"

Asor cupped a hand to his mouth in surprise. Mya was shocked, she thought he'd fall to his knees and bawl his heart out.

Larry just stood there, and said, "I mean it was kinda obvious. . . That Broomy was a guy, I mean. Haven't you read Brooming 101?" He asked clearly annoyed.

"C'mon guys, let's go home!" Asor said.

They all walked into the cold, dark, and ebony night skipping all the way home singing the Dora the Explorer theme song.
